Growing up in Detroit was hard. Being alone was harder. I worked a 8 hour shift in McDonald's, half a block from my house. i owned a rusted pinto, the very car that my dad owned when he died. When I was 2 he was in New York during 9-11. He was killed because a plane struck the floor he was on. Mom Died there too. My uncle died three years after that. The military Is a hard he told me. then he went and got his head blown off during a raid.
Now, I was in a small one room apartment, had no friends, and my last girlfriend just dumped me for a drug head because he had money. I could barely save up for new brakes.( which I badly needed. I had to coast a block before I could stop in the piece of junk I drove.) well, 12-19-21, the day was different. I was fired for one thing, and my car was stolen.
As I walked home, I noticed two things, one: my pinto was smashed up outside my house, and two: my ex was there holding a taser, pointing it at my chest. Now she was skinny, tall, and a redhead. but she also held in her hand a standard issue police taser. She pulled the trigger and two small barbs peirced my chest just above a scar.
I felt a stinging as I was shocked, fell on my back, and lost consciousness. I was shot three weeks ago because I stabbed a wannabe robber at my local bank. I just did that and walked off. payed my insurance, at the bank, as that was where my car was insured. The bullet drew the electricity to it and that knocked me out. The only reason I didn't go to the hospital was I couldnt afford it, and I didnt think a .22 could do much damage. It hurt, even bled a little, but now, I forgot the small piece of steel in my chest, and felt a current shoot through my body. I never knew that sleep could change so much in a life. How mistaken I was.

I woke up and saw light. The light was bright, warming even. My first thought was a hospital, but I looked around and noticed a few things. Not white or grey, but green. I was surrounded by grass. My skin was also different, as I was covered in a grey fur. My hair, or mane, as it appeared, was a brilliant yellow, like that of lightning. Two wings were on my back, and moving them just felt natural. I felt like I could literally fly. I stood up, and noticed I had four legs, and hooves. Not hands and feet, but hooves. I could still walk, somehow, it just felt normal. Left, right, left, right, and so-on. Like I'd been doing it for my whole life.
I flapped my wings, and was amazed as I lifted from the ground. So much so, that I fell from the air, all of 7 feet, and landed on my hooves. I decided that if I needed to give a name, grey lightning would be fine.
"Who are you?" a tomboyish voice asked, causing me to jump. As if on cue, some one, or some pony, as the case turned out to be, showed up.
I turned to look at her, assuming that it was a her, and was caught breathless. She was cyan blue, with a rainbow mane. I looked for a moment, then spoke up " my name is Grey Lightning. Just call me Grey." I smiled at her trying not to show my nervousness.
"Well, grey, my name is rainbow dash. Where are you from?" I was caught aback by her question.
i just looked at her for a moment, felt my eyes grow wide."not around here, and trust me, you don't want to know. It's a really bad place there."
She just looked at me for a moment, then took to the air.
"Hey! Wait! How the heck do you do that?" I asked as she flew farther and farther away.
"Just my luck. I talk to someone and then get" I was cut off In Mid sentence as a blue form flew at me and tacked me to the ground.
" you coming?" Rainbow dash just looked at me and smiled.
I just looked back and replied " I can't fly."
She looked like she was about to laugh. " oh wait, your serious? Oh my gosh! He can't fly!" She laughed, and flew straight into the sky.
I just walked. Hung my head and walked. I heard a soft landing right next to me, and shook my head. "What you gonna tease me now?" I asked knowing what the answer was.
" no, actually Im gonna walk with you. If I think your cool enough I will teach you to fly." She said confusing me.
" wait, what?" I looked at her and she sighed, then looked at me and laughed." What's so funny?" I asked wondering.
" you should see your face!" She grinned and ran ahead of me, flaring her wings as she went.
I ran after her and then stopped dead in my tracks. "Woah. Is that made out of"...
" yep. And it's all mine." Rainbow dash nodded looking in the direction of her house, which amazed me and then some."so, tell me, how did you get that scar on your chest?"
I glanced down and noticed I had a scar from when I as shot. IN DETROIT. My head swam as I realized this was not a dream. I fell on my haunches and just looked ahead into space. Dazed, I finally told about where I was from." I grew up in Detroit. My parents died when I was three. My uncle when I was eighteen. I was shot three weeks ago, got my sorry ass tased last night, and now I'm talking to a Pegasus. I am a Pegasus. I was human. Am I crazy?"
Rainbow was just staring at me for a good minute after I finally collected myself and finally asked "are you alright?"she sounded distraught.
" yeah. I think I'm losing it though."I said, feeling suddenly tired.
"Losing what?" She looked very... Worried.
"My mind." I replied with knots tying in my stomach.
" dude, I think you need to lay down." She replied with a hint of worried ness.
" never sounded better." I said.
" well, follow me. I think twilight has a spare bed." Rainbow started off at a brisk pace in the direction of a small collection of lights.

Ponyville: night
"How much farther is it?" I asked being very tired.
"It's not much farther. Trust me." Rainbow leaned against my shoulder, she must have been very tired, she seemed so strong, yet she was leaning against ME. Now I was tired and hardly noticed. "Here we are."
" it's a tree." I was now very tired and just ready to sleep.
" No, it's a library." She seemed maybe a little annoyed. " Twilight! It's me Rainbow Dash!"
To my amazement, a door I hadn't noticed swung open and a tired looking purple mare stood there." Who's your Freind, Dash? And why not just fly to your house?"
I felt my face go red as I said "I can't fly."
"Well, come in. You two look like your going to fall down. Let me show you to the spare bed."
" thanks twilight." Rainbow dash said with a small nod.
" Erm, yeah thank you." I said full of nervous ness.
" what was your name again?" Twilight looked at me, inquiringly.
" I'm grey lightning." I replied with a yawn. " nite."
" I walked over to the bed, which I noticed was occupied by rainbow dash and opted to sleep on the floor. Not the most comfortable bed by a long run.

The next morning
" oh shit! I'm late for work!" I jumped up, knowing that if I was late again I would be in trouble. Then I noticed, I had hooves and wings. "Holy shit. But I thought... I'm not dreaming." I looked around, saw that rainbow dash was still sleeping, and decided to let her lay. I lay back down, and let merciful sleep take me.
