Little Pink Prancing Bow (Little Red Riding Hood)

Load Full StoryNext Chapter

Once upon a time there had been a little filly by the name of Applebloom. All those of Ponyville loved her so, but none so much as her grandmother, Granny Smith. She loved her so that she gifted her with a pink bow, which looked ever so lovely on her that she never removed it. And so all called her Little Pink Prancing Bow.

Now it came to one day that her older sister, Applejack said to her “Go take this pie and cider to Granny Smith. She is too old to come and thus you must take it. As you go through the Everfree Forest stay on the path and do not stray. Walk calmly so not to spill the cider and when ya’ll arrive to her cottage say ‘good afternoon’ and be on your best behavior, ya hear.”

Granny Smith lived in the Everfree forest some distance away from Sweet Apple Acres
and so Little Pink Prancing Bow headed out with the basket of goods on her back. She walked through the forest following the old trodden path. All around her leaves rustled and animals stirred, but she feared not for she was a big pony. After several minutes of walking a timberwolf met her. Young Little Pink Prancing Bow being an innocent filly greeted the timberwolf.

“Howdy Mr. Timberwolf.” She greeted with a smile.

“Hello little filly. What is your name?" He asked.

"Ma name is Applebloom, but ya'll can call me Little Pink Prancing Bow. That's what everypony calls me."

"What a lovely name you have.Where are you heading all alone in this dark forest?” He responded.

“T'ah my Granny’s cottage.”

“And what’s in the basket child?” He asked.

“ Apple pie and cider. Yesterday was market day and this here was made for her.”

“How kind of you and pray tell Little Pink Prancing Bow how far does she live?”

“Umm... Over yonder.” She gestured toward a hill in the distance. “Past the big oak near the the elms, ya can’t miss it.” She explained joyfully.

“Now now that is too far for you to go alone, let me join you my dear.” He smiled to her.

And so with happy agreement the two headed forth. The timber wolf smiled at the idea of having found a good meal. Not just an old mare, but a young tender foal would be a great bonus. After several minutes of walking they came to a large Zap Apple tree. A thought formed in his head as he saw it.

“ How much do you love your dear granny, child?” The Timberwolf asked.

“Ah whole bunch! Why?” She looked to him curiously.

“Look to that tree, to those lovely apples. I just thought your granny would love one.” He grinned.

Her eyes widened at the idea. “You’re right! I bet she’d love an apple or two!” She gasped. "And maybe I could get a Zap Apple Pickin' cutiemark!"

The timberwolf quickly took the basket from her back “I’ll just go ahead and make sure the path is clear of any dangers. Take your sweet time and get the best one for your lovely granny.”

Little Pink Prancing Bow agreed and watched as the timberwolf went on ahead with the basket in his maw. She stepped off the path and walked to the tree, atop its vast greenery were several shining Zap Apples. There many colors shined in the what sunlight came through the canopy. With a small buck to the trunk an apple fell. With the scrupulous watch of an apple farmer she decided it was not good enough for her and tried again several times.

Meanwhile the timberwolf arrived to the cottage and stood on his back legs.. He hide his long claws and gently knocked on the door.

“Who’s there?” Asked an old tired voice.

The timberwolf raised his voice’s pitch and answered, “ it’s me Granny Smith, Little Pink Prancing Bow, I brought you pie.”

Granny Smith being hard of hearing heard nothing wrong with the voice and answered. “The doors unlocked dear, come in.”

The timberwolf entered his nails clicking on the wooden boards. He came to her bedroom and saw as she lay there. The heavy quilt covered her old body and a nightcap lay atop her head.

“Good afternoon Granny Smith.” The timberwolf said in a high pitch.

“ Good afternoon darlin’. Ah can smell that pie, boy howdy it sure does smell good.” Granny Smith chuckled.

The timberwolf grinned to her reply, “it’s not the only thing...”

At last after many attempts Little Pink Prancing Bow had found the right apple. She held a large plump apple with a glossy sheen. It had taken her several tries, but she had found the best apple for her Granny Smith. With a satisfied grin she placed it on her back and went back to the pathway finding that she had strayed quite far from it. Quickly she walked awaiting to see her Granny and new friend.

Upon arriving she found the cottage door ajar, “Good afternoon Granny,” she called upon entering, but heard no reply. “Granny?” She asked and made her way to her grandmother's bedroom.

Upon entering the room she saw Granny Smith laying in her bed. She was almost completely covered by the quilt and her night cap covered her whole face. Granny Smith seemed rather awkward in her bed. The basket lay on the floor untouched.

“Granny why are ya’ll covered up?” Little Pink Prancing Bow asked.

“I got a little cold darlin’. Come closer my child.” The timberwolf called in a raspy voice.

“ Ah brought ya some pie, have you seen a ti-”

“Come closer dear, ah want to see that pretty face of yours.” The timberwolf interrupted.

Little Pink Prancing Bow went to her bedside and looked at her grandmother. She looked at her in greater detail.

“Boy Granny, how big ya look...”

“The more to love you with my dear.” The timberwolf cooed.

“And what long snout ya got...”

“The better to smell them pies with my sweet.”

“And what large teeth ya got.” Applebloom pointed out.

“The better to eat you with!” The timberwolf roared pouncing from the bed.

So it was that after the timberwolf had swallowed her whole that he lay on the bed resting from the meal and feel asleep, snoring heavily.

It was at this time that Big Macintosh had been passing by from a trip of wood cutting that he decided to visit his grandmother. As he came to the door he saw it open and entered the cottage cautiously. Entering her room he saw the timberwolf laying on her bed with an extended stomach.

With an angry nope of disbelief he picked up his axe and carefully chopped of a small part of its stomach. Hopefully his granny was still alive. A pink bow popped out followed by Little Pink Prancing Bow climbing out. After her crawled out Granny Smith a bit shaken, but still well.

Big Macintosh dismantled the timberwolf in its sleep and burned the wood. Granny Smith and Little Pink Prancing Bow were now safe. Together the three of them were able to enjoy the delicious pie.

"Ah didn't even get ma cutiemark for any of this!"

Everypony looked to her and laughed.

"Maybe your cutiemark could have been for stickin' ta the path." Applejack joked.
