The Prince and The Gem (The Princess and The Pea)
Previous ChapterNext ChapterRarity walked around her shop anxiously. For you see she was to send to Princess Celestia a new dress. Now this dress was not like any other, it had gold thread and encrusted jewels. Something only to befit a princess. Rarity was nervous she had been hoof selected to make it and everything had to be perfect. She had spent days planning it out and working on it and finally she was done.
By letter she had been told that it was to be picked up by somepony. Rarity could imagine it, a fleet of guards coming, pulling a metal chest. And in that chest would go the dress, protected by them. There would be escorts and roadblocks! Oh the glamour for something she made!
So worried she awaited, but nightfall came and a storm began. The clouds thundered and water poured. ‘They must have gotten lost in the storm. Oh no! The horror! But they probably shall arrive tomorrow. There is nothing to do now but sleep, no point in missing my beauty sleep.’ And with that she locked her door and hid away the dress in a vault hidden behind a picture frame where she hid her most precious things. But it came that as soon as she reached her stairs a knock came to her door.
She gave a small jump and stared at the door. There was another knock, harder this time. Levitating a pair of scissors she walked over to the door. ‘Of all the nights Opal isn’t here...’ Rarity thought to herself.
Rarity had taken Opal that day to Fluttershy for a grooming, but Fluttershy had insisted on keeping her for the night, so as to get her fur properly straightened. Rarity caring much for Opal agreed.
Another knock came taking Rarity back from her memories. “Who is it?” She sing-songed nervously.
A voice answered, but was too muffled by the rain to be heard.
Thunder cracked and she heard a yelp from the stranger. ‘It must be some poor pony stuck in the rain.’ So with some distance Rarity opened the door.
Outside stood a sopping wet Prince Blueblood. Immediately Rarity tried to close the door, but Blueblood angrily stopped it with a hoof and frowned at her. They had a moment of Rarity trying to close it and Blueblood trying to open it.
“Let me in!” He yelled. Thunder cracked again and he yelped.
‘Pathetic.’ Rarity thought. She groaned and opened the door. Blueblood came in, his white fur muddy and his golden locks matted and wet.
“Give me a towel.” He ordered, dripping muddy water all over her tile floor.
“Excuse me, I would think a gentlecolt such as yourself would say please!” She scolded, but nonetheless levitated one to him. He began wiping his face murmuring complaints to himself.
“Why are you here Blueblood?” She said upset.
“I am a prince! I will not be spoken to that why. Especially by a commoner such as yourself!” He said lifting his nose to the air.
“You have come to my house in the middle of the night, dirtied my floors and have insulted me,. Last chance what. Do. You. Want!” She screamed, but then sighed. “Calm done Rarity a lady does not raise her voice.” She whispered to herself.
Blueblood gave an angry hmph. “I have come to get my Aunt Celestia’s dress. But the guards that were to come with me where being being incredibly rude to me and giving me cheek so I fired them. Now I had to come on my own! Those wretched fools!” He roared.
‘Maybe they weren't rude enough.’ Rarity thought.
Blueblood concentrated himself in cleaning off his fur, taking more of her towels and digging through her combs and brushes. Meanwhile Rarity sat there arguing back and forth with him, until finally he was clean.
“I can not leave now because of this storm, so dreadfully I will have to stay the night, feel privileged. I will need bed.”
“What but..I...but...” She complained.
“Oh come now i've heard of how generous you are.” He smirked.
“I have an extra mattress in the attic...” Rarity groaned.
He looked at her appalled. “You want me, Prince Blueblood, to sleep on a dirty old mattress!” Again he humphed and got up. “Your bed will have to do....”
He got up and found himself to her room and locked the door behind him. Rarity ran up to the door and slammed on it.
“That is my room! How dare you! You rude little-”
“I am trying to get my beauty sleep!” He yelled from across the door.
Rarity’s cheeks burned red. “Calm down Rarity, he is after all Princess Celestia’s nephew, I must act like a lady.” She told herself and she trudged off to go get the mattress for herself.
After several hazardous steps she got the mattress down. She placed a blanket upon it and laid down. It’s so uncomfortable, my poor back! I won’t get any sleep.’ She mentally complained. That was when an idea came to her.
She got off the creaky mattress and walked over to her jewelry box. Rarity pulled out a small round gem roughly the size of a pea. She then opened a drawer to find a key, an extra to her bedroom door.
Slowly she walked upstairs and carefully turned the lock. The door opened and she entered. Prince Blueblood lay in her bed sound asleep, wearing her sleeping mask.
She came to the bed and watched him as he slept, his chest slowly rising and falling in content sleep. With a sleep-driven evil grin she levitated the small gem underneath the mattress. As she exited her room she heard him turn over in discomfort.
The next morning came, with Rarity’s back in pain, but with minor stretching all was well. She went to the kitchen and made herself breakfast. Several minutes after, Prince Blueblood came in. He had bags under his eyes and a frown. He looked worse than at the gala.
“How was your night in my bed?” She smiled.
“Terrible!” He said frankly. “Your bed is horrible! I could not sleep a wink! I tossed and turned and now I have these hideous bags under my eyes!” He stormed. “What could I expect from a commoner’s bed!”
“How terrible! Well I slept very well, I wonder why my bed was so uncomfortable.” She grinned evilly, ignoring his last comment.
After forcing Rarity to make him breakfast and another argument about commoner food a knock was heard. Upon opening the front door she met with a royal guard.
“I apologize to bother you early in the morning, but is a Prince Blueblood in your company?” The guard asked.
“Oh yes darling he arrived last night.” She said.
“We have come by the order of the Princess to pick him up and the gown.” The guard answered.
So with that Blueblood was taken into a carriage guided by two other guards and with the dress being carefully placed in a chest. Blueblood merely frowned at Rarity from the carriage window and closed the curtains. Rarity frowned back at the curtains.
“I apologize about the Prince.” A guard told her knowingly after watching Blueblood’s behavior.
“Oh no problem dear, the delicate little prince got what he deserved.” She smiled murmuring the last part to herself.
The guard looked at her confused, but walked away nonetheless.
