A Piece of Fate
In the bleak future of the Equestrian wastes, there remains little hope, and it's a land where only the luckiest survive. Dog eat dog, cat eat cat, bloatsprite eat bloatsprite, pony eat pony. To say that having any survivors is a miracle is an understatement; an absolute, horrid one. The ponies out there, they fight over what scraps remain, driven by madness, by hunger, by everything the former glory of the Equestrian's fought to stop.
But, if we're talking about the luckiest among us, allow me to tell you about a certain pony. She was a peculiar one; an incredibly mysterious mare, but she did her best to do well. That isn't why, though. Between you and me, there isn't anypony more lucky, then that mysterious mare in a duster and a long-brimmed hat. Trawling through what remains of the once-great country, she survives off of nothing but her own ingenuity, talking ability, and obscene luck. Nopony but her and what family she has left knows her true name; Those that do, are either lying in a grave with a knife in their back or drifting, alone, for the rest of their natural life and however long the collective taint and magical radiation expand it.
Nopony knows her name, so they gave her one. They based it, not off of her appearance, as she let nopony see, or her cutie mark, as it was constantly hidden, but off of her actions.
This mare, is known as Testing Fate.
