Chapter 1
A bright and sunny day with not a cloud in the sky had come up once again on such a fine morning. This was definitely going to be as good as a day as yesterday... and the day before that... and the day before that... and... the... day... before... that.... These were the thoughts going through Luna's mind as she stared out her window and looked at the “new” day that they have been bestowed upon by her sister Celestia. She was happy to see good mornings every day, but was very tired of seeing each day go about the same way. Every so often though she'd see interesting things happen with the Mane Six, or hear about it, but every day was just boring. Nothing exciting usually happened anymore.
Luna then looked away from the window and headed towards her mirror to brush her mane. As she was looking in the mirror, she heard a knock on the door.
“Come in.” she said. The door opened and it was one of Celestia's Guards. He walked to her, bowed, and then stood up tall saying:
“Princess Luna, Princess Celestia is back from raising the sun and would like to know if you would want to go on a walk through Ponyville with her and Princess Twilight.”
Now this was something new to her. She hardly ever got to go anywhere with her sister nowadays with them both being so busy. Luna was overjoyed but at the same time concerned. The last time she went for a walk through Ponyville, some of the citizens there wouldn't look at her with much respect. Instead, they would scowl at her, and turn away. This always left her very confused. But she just brushed this off as nothing to worry about. Besides, they wouldn't do something like that to her sister. So everything would go just fine.
“Tell my sister I would be delighted to join them.” she said to the guard. “I will be with them shortly.”
“Yes your highness.” the guard said as he bowed one last time, turned towards the door, and walked out of the room.
After hearing this, she finished brushing her mane, put on her shoes and necklace, and headed out the door.
~outside Canterlot castle~
Luna exited the main doors of the castle and went to met up with Twilight and Celestia. She found them just a few yards away from the main gate. They both appeared to have been talking to each other about something but she didn't quite know. As she approached them, they both stopped talking and looked in Luna's direction. They both smiled as Luna walked up beside them.
“Hello Miss Sparkle,” she said with a smile on her face “Or should I call you Princess Twilight?”
Twilight smiled back to her and chuckled a little. “Oh its alright, I'm fine with Twilight, you don't have to call me anything else.”
“Well then,” Luna said “I shall call you Twilight instead. So how does it feel to be one of the new Princesses?”
“Oh it's great...” she said with a grin that soon turned to a more concerned expression “But I preferred it when I was able to spend more time with my friends. The Princess thing is great and all, but it gets kinda lonely sometimes, no offense Princess.” she said looking at Celestia with a weak smile.
She smiled back and said “I understand Twilight. And your right. It does seem to be pretty boring at times, but it really isn't all that bad. In fact your not the only one who gets bored. Some of the guards actually get pretty bored too.”
“Really?” Both Luna and Twilight said looking at Celestia with confused expressions.
“Yes. There was this one time, when one of my personal guards had become so bored, that he decided to go to the window, and use his binoculars to find any sexy mares passing by on the streets of Canterlot.”
Still confused, and a little shocked that Celestia would use that word, the two of them exchanged expressions and then looked back at Celestia.
“Uhhhh... How do you know whether or not he was looking for mares?” Luna asked awkwardly.
“Because he was shouting and jumping up and down once he saw some that peaked his interest. He was saying things like 'ohhhhh yeah! Check that plot out! Woo! Woo!'” she said with a huge grin on her face.
Celestia then burst out laughing while the other two just stood there awkwardly looking back and forth between Celestia and themselves. It was very weird to think Celestia would find something like that funny.
After she had calmed down, she then looked at the other two with a huge grin on her face. “So ready to head to Ponyville?”
Twilight and Luna just shook their heads and said “YES” in unison.
“Well then lets go.” She said as she opened up her wings and took to the sky. The other two followed close behind while at the same time kept their distance from her.
“Well that certainly hasn't happened before. And that is definitely the most awkward thing I've seen today.” Twilight said to Luna.
“Agreed.” Luna replied. “I've never seen my sister act like that before.”
“Well I'm sure there are even crazier things happening in Ponyville right now.”
“Perhaps.”
Luna kept quiet and decided not to tell Twilight or her sister about her thoughts and feelings about every day that goes by. Twilight seemed to get hit good portion of it, but not all of it. She just decided that maybe today would be different after all.
~Ponyville: Sugarcube Corner~
The three of them walked into the sugar filled building and were soon greeted by a bouncing pink pony and a timid yellow pegasus. Of course the two bowed, but just a few seconds after Celestia said for them to rise, Pinkie Pie started bouncing again.
“Helloooooooooooo Twilight, Luna, and Celestia!” She said ecstatically. “I just can't believe you guys are here! Spike was here last night running errands for you Twilight and he said you three might be stopping by. I wasn't sure at first, but then you showed up! How cool is that?! Do you want to play a game? Wanna make cupcakes? Wanna eat cupcakes? Oo! I know! Maybe you wanna eat muffins!”
At that moment Derpyhooves had crashed through the roof. She then stood up and said “Muffins?! Who said muffins?!”
“I did!” said Pinkie
“Um... Pinkie?”
Pinkie turned around to face her friend. “Yes Fluttershy?”
“Um, well you see, there's some ponies over there that wanted to talk to the Princesses and um, they don't sound very happy either.”
“Why not?”
“I don't know.” scared, she started to back away from the group. “They just seem really angry. Um, I have to go check on my Critter friends, so I'll uh, see you later, I guess.” By this time she was already outside. “It was nice seeing you Twilight, but I have to go so... uh... bye.” And with that she flew off.
Celestia and Luna looked at each other and looked toward the angry ponies on the other side of the room. None of them really looked happy at all. “Twilight, stay here please, Luna and I need to see whats going on.”
“Yes indeed.” Luna said looking at Twilight “Perhaps you'll get a feel on how to handle these type of situations when you come across them.”
“I understand. I'll wait here.” It had been at least a month since Twilight became an alicorn. Twilight had easily picked up on how to use her new magic and quickly became an expert in flying without any flaws over time. However she didn't seem to know much about taking care of situations such as these. She figured 2 experts in this field would be the best at something like this for now.
The two approached three angry ponies and sat with them quietly at the table. To Celestia's surprise, but not to Luna's, the three scowled at Luna and looked angrily towards Celestia. She could tell that this would not end well. Luna the same.
“Please, my loyal subjects, whatever is the mat-”
“Oh shut up Celestia.” One of the three ponies had happened to be Roseluck. And it appeared she was the most upset. “Why would you ask such a retarded question? You should know darn well why we're upset!”
Shocked by this response, Celestia turned to a more aggressive tone and began again. “As a matter of fact I don't, so please, do fill me in.”
One of the other ponies huffed and continued to give nasty looks to the two Princesses. Roseluck then continued. “Very well then.” She glanced at Luna for a second or two then looked back at Celestia. “Why the hell would you let her live?!” She shouted pointing towards Luna. “For that matter let her even live amongst us?! After all shes done, she doesn't deserve to be here! For all we know she could still be Nightmare Moon and we wouldn't even know it!”
Luna somehow knew this day was coming. The day some of the ponies would turn against her because of past events. Luna didn't want to admit it to herself, nor her sister, but she knew that something wasn't right. It was only a matter of time before it became more of a problem than they thought.
Author's Note
This is just the beginning of what happened before the war. There will be more chapters. But just to let you know I am willing to accept ideas for main battles. When I say this it can be either a battlefield or a fight between two characters. Ok? Cool so I hope you enjoy this chapter and the chapters that are still to come.
Chapter 2
While knowing something like this was going to happen eventually, she was also confused about one other thing... Why would they think that? Didn't she prove to them that she wasn't Nightmare Moon anymore on Nightmare Night? This left her very confused. Celestia on the other hoof was completely enraged by the comments that had just been said by Roseluck. Celestia had also heard about Nightmare Night through not just Twilight's letter, but she also had heard it from Luna as well when she returned from Ponyville that night. Instead of confusion, Celestia was filled with anger. Her expression changed and she then began to give Roseluck what was coming to her.
“What?! You were expecting me to kill my sister?!” She shouted this so loud that everypony within 100 yards of Sugarcube Corner could hear. “My sister has done absolutely nothing wrong! What could possibly be so bad that would make you want to wish for her death?!”
Roseluck then turned to the other pony. “Hey, Ink-cloud, you got this right?” She said to the other pony next to her. The pony had dark blue eyes, a dark blue mane, and a white fur coat. Her cutie mark was a white cloud covered in blue ink spots. Why Roseluck had asked her to fill in for her was unknown to the Princesses, but they listened to what she had to say anyway.
“Well for one thing,” Ink-cloud began “she raises the moon each night correct? And with night, there is darkness. And 'Princess' Luna's main power is connected to darkness, so that is a definite sign that she is still somewhat evil.”
“Blasphemy!” Celestia roared. By this time a large group had formed around the table and none of the ponies at the table seemed to notice. If they did, they probably didn't care. “My sister has been rid of any evil that she would've had before. And the fact that your using her own powers against her like that, is cold hearted! My sister would nev-”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah, your sister would never do something like that, sure she wouldn't.” Roseluck said, interrupting Celestia again. “But why don't you let Ink-cloud finish first before you speak again, Prin-cess.” She said this to Celestia in such a rude way, that Roseluck would've had her own head taken off.
Ink-cloud then continued with her reasons. “Now lets not forget the fact that the reason Luna became Nightmare Moon in the first place was because of her jealousy toward you Celestia. Also because we ponies stay out in the sunlight and go about our business in the daytime. Because the children play in the sunlight and not the moonlight. Because we sleep under the moon and not the sun. Beca-”
“SILENCE!” Luna had yelled. As she said this, her eyes glowed a bright white light and her face was full of anger and hatred. She then proceeded to use her Equestrian voice. “I HAVE NO SUCH PESSIMISM TOWARD MY OWN SISTER! THE PAST IS BEHIND ALL OF US AND IT WILL REMAIN THAT WAY!”
The three ponies were silent after this as so was everypony else around the table. “Really?” Roseluck said with a questionable expression on her face. “If what you say is true, then we'll have to see it for ourselves then won't we?” She looked at her other two companions and then began to leave the table. “We'll see Luna... We'll see...”
Before they could leave, Celestia had stopped them in their tracks with a stomp so hard, that everypony around them flew back a few feet. The other three didn't seem to budge and inch. Celestia, with anger and hatred in her eyes, glared at the three that stood in front of her and began to speak once more. “Give me one good reason why I should just let you walk away and trust that you won't do anything just to get at mine and Luna's throats.”
Ink-cloud just smiled and said: “Because we're not your biggest worry Princess. There are more of us out there that are willing to go to the extreme. They won't stop until Luna is gone. Whether its through voting, or assassination. I'd keep and eye out for those ponies if I were you.”
“I don't care if there are ponies out there that are worse than you or not.” Celestia said. “unless you're willing to accept my sister as one of Equestria's rulers, you stay away from Luna and I. Your actions are not acceptable under our rule.”
Roseluck smiled. “Don't you mean YOUR rule? Luna is more like your pet than a second ruler.”
With this comment, Ink-cloud, Roseluck, and their other companion burst out laughing. Luna became enraged and shot a powerful bolt of blue lightning at Roseluck, sending her flying through the walls of Sugarcube Corner and then through four other buildings. When Luna realized what she had done, she turned to face the crowd of ponies that were still gathered around them. Many of the ponies began to back away or just leave Sugarcube Corner altogether. Luna had felt horrible for doing this and tried her best to ensure everypony that she meant no harm.
“I... I am so sorry... I didn't mean...” before she could finish, many ponies among the crowd began speaking.
“Why would you do that?” asked Carrot Top.
“What kind of a princess are you?” questioned Bon Bon.
“I thought you had changed.” stated Cloudchaser.
“Was Nightmare Night just your cover-up?” asked Daisy.
More and more questions arose from the large crowd. Some tensions were rising, ponies were staring at Luna and whispering about something, and some began to scream more questions at her. Luna was frightened by the sight before her and could not take much more. But she wasn't the only one who had had enough. Celestia's horn glowed bright with magic and in one flash, Celestia, Luna, and Twilight, (for some reason) were teleported back to Canterlot castle. They appeared in front of the main doors from which they decided to fly to the top of the castle. There they knew that no harm in any way, shape, or form would get to them.
“Why did you do that sister?” Celestia asked in a worried tone. “You should've known that if you reacted like that, then something terrible was bound to happen.”
“I didn't mean to, I just... I wanted to...” Luna stopped talking and then bowed her head down in shame and guilt. She knew there was no point in trying to talk to her sister about such an event in hopes it could be fixed so easily. “Forgive me sister. I should have told you about this sooner.”
Surprised by this remark, Celestia asked her what she meant. Luna then proceeded to tell Celestia and Twilight about the few times she had gone to Ponyville and in which some of the citizens would look upon her in disgust. Celestia felt horrible for not asking Luna about this sooner; Twilight the same.
“I apologize for not seeing to this beforehand Luna.” Celestia said grimly “I should have been there to help you.”
“It's not your fault. You didn't know and I didn't tell you. If anypony is at fault here, its me.”
The two then made up for their faults and then refocused at the issue at hand.
Twilight at this time, had finally decided to speak up and ask: “What do we do now?”
Celestia walked over to the rail and looked over the land below her. Luna and Twilight then joined her, each on a different side of her. They all stared at the small town below until Celestia finally spoke. “I'm afraid there is not much we can do right now. All we can do, is hope and pray that this will blow over. If not, we'll have to try our best to control it.”
Shocked and confused Luna then began to question her sister. “But why? Why would we let them do this? You saw how they acted towards us. They even challenged your leadership sister. We need to-”
“No!” Celestia said. “Some of those ponies have already made up their mind that we are the enemies right now. No matter what we do, they won't listen to us. If we try to stop this with force then they'll become even more convinced that we don't deserve the title as their leader. In fact they might even try to overrun us with their own force. I hate to say it Luna, but our subjects have changed. Some of them see evil inside of us now and there is nothing we can do about, except stay away from those who do not trust us, and keep close to those who listen to what we have to say.”
Luna, understanding what had to be done, closed her eyes, bowed her head once more, and began to cry. Celestia tried her best to comfort her, but she could see that there was no point. “I'm sorry Luna. But until things clear up, we cannot leave the castle. Twilight, it would be best if you stayed here as well.”
“Of course Princess. I understand.” Twilight nodding her head one time.
Celestia then looked at her sister. Luna, with tears in her eyes, looked up at her sister. The two shared a hug and didn't think about anything in the world. This certainly wasn't a day that Luna was asking for. Although it was pretty obvious that this was a horrible event, she still felt that the worst was yet to come. For some reason she felt that some of the ponies might even be against Celestia. But she just pushed aside these thoughts for the time being and tried to think about the time when ponies loved her. When she was respected by everypony despite what had happened in the past. She tried her hardest to concentrate on such great feelings, because she felt... it may be the last time she could ever feel those feelings again.
