It is well known that the great Princess Luna once insane, and transformed into the terrible Nightmare Moon. Her power was so great that she alone threatened to plunge Equestria into an ever lasting night. Luckily the wise Celestia was able to defeat the usurper of the day and banished her to the moon. It is also a modern legend that Nightmare Moon escaped the moon and threatened to destroy harmony once more, but was stopped once and for all by the Elements of Harmony. But, it is false that it was the stars that allowed her to escape.

Nightmare Moon had made a deal with the devil to escape.

The devil always gets his due, and Luna had to pay up. The result was the biggest crisis Equestria had ever faced; The devil and his minions left to run a muck and do as they wished. During this time was also a war that almost destroyed Equestria completely. It was a dark time, a time that nopony will ever tell you about, because it was erased from history entirely.



It was foolishly decided after the war that nopony should have to remember the horror and terror of that time. When the incident was erased only four pony's remembered what happened.

Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.
