Chapters Hello there, well since you're here I might as well tell you who I am, my name is Windbreaker, I am an 18 year old pegasus stallion and I am completely doomed. Perhaps I should elaborate, now I realize I am not the smartest pony in the world because I decided to wander into the Everfree Forest alone, at night, knowing full well what beings actually live there and how many of them could kill me on a whim and how having a pure white coat and blue tail provide absolutely no sort of camouflage. I can just see my old school teacher placing a dunce cap on top of my head right now.
Now why you may ask why was I going through the Everfree Forest in the first place, I don't have a clue why I decided to. I spend my days simply following the wind just wandering Equestria, looking for some form of purpose, pretty cliche right? I heard of a town called Ponyville, a small city on the other side of this forest, so I decided to see this town, probably a mistake at this point in time.
Now I am literally running for my life, now what you may ask am I running from? Simple, a pack of bloodthirsty timber wolves that ambushed me just outside the forest. Now I know what you're thinking, Windbreaker you're a pegasus you can just fly away. Normally you would be right, but, the wolves sort of thought of that too, because they clipped my right wing pretty bad when they jumped me, so I am pretty much forced to keep running. I'm losing a good amount of blood from that strike too, horsefeathers those things are smart for a bunch of animals.
Now I don't know where I'm going and at the moment and I really don't care, the constant snarling and howling closing in on me is really the only thing I can focus on. I know that this is the end for me, there is no way out for me now, I am not a great fighter because when I was younger I decided to learn and read instead of buffing myself up and being smart can't save me right now.
That was a great decision on my part, I probably could have saved myself if I spent more time getting stronger at home in Cloudsdale. Oh well, I can here those wolves getting a lot closer so I am running out of time here, dear Celestia I really screwed myself over here.
I won't pray for a miracle, to be honest I am not expecting anything divine being to save my sorry flank from this dire situation. I haven't exactly done anything to deserve it, one thing that living up in Cloudsdale taught me is that you are always on your own in the end. I was taught not to rely on any pony other than myself, so that's how I lived, alone and away from most other ponies, other than my parents.
Wait! I see a light up ahead, it must be a way out I just might make it out of this alive come on legs don't stop now I actually have a chance now! The light's growing larger, I'm so close I can almost taste it, dear Celestia I'm gonna live, I'm gonna live!
Ow son of a mule, that's not gonna happen, I must be pumping some adrenaline right now because having a timber wolf bite into my leg hurts a lot less than I thought it would. Well, only one thing to do now and that's play dead, the ultimate desperado at my disposal, great plan right?
Collapsing on the ground, feeling a pack of wolves tear claws and teeth digging into my back and praying they get bored, yep watertight plan. Well, I'm a goner, my only regret is not living my life more fully. Whoa, I can see my life flashing before my eyes, all of my childhood memories playing out before me, and... I am actually getting bored, that's just sad!
Suddenly, the wolves were gone, I must have passed out before they left, wow I can't believe it I thought that never worked! Oh well, at least I can die in peace, more or less, thanks for hearing my little story, hope you didn't get too bored by it.
Wait, I see a light, well it's either death beckoning me or an actual hope of living. Whatever it is, better than just lying here in a pool of my own blood might as well crawl over to it. Every pull hurts like no other, my body really is on it's last leg right now but I can almost touch the light, it feels so warm.
Just a little further, come on legs you can make this last trip, with every step I lose some more blood, I will bleed out pretty soon. The light is right there, just a few more steps, such a comforting warmth that keeps drawing me closer, like a moth to a flame.
I can touch it! Oh there goes my body, darn it, my legs can't stand anymore and I can feel gravity working against me, but I was so close. Everything is going black, I wonder what fate I will be given, only one way to find out, I can't see or hear anything anymore, I must be on the brink of death.
There's the light again I can get to it this time, all the pain is gone and I can stand up again, yep definitely not in the mortal world anymore. I will get the light this time, come on legs run, only a few feet away... wait I hear something, what is that sound? It's steady and repeating like, a heartbeat, is that my heartbeat? How can I hear my own heartbeat? Am I still breathing? How can I actually be living after such an attack? Those wolves tore me apart, I could not have survived that on my own.
I can see something now! I can see... blurs, a lot of colorful blurs, come on eyes work please! There we go, okay so hospital, I'm in a hospital, how did I get to a hospital?

Okay, I'm definitely alive so that's a start at least, wait I can see a yellow blur at the edge of the bed, come on eyes focus! Maybe if I get a closer look, if I can just sit up, AH- nope that's not happening I must have a dozen stitches in my back, Celestia that hurts.
"Are you awake?" the yellow blur asked, it definitely is a mare's voice, it is very soft and soothing.
"Uh, yeah, how did I get here? The last thing I remember was collapsing on the ground," I really need to know how I survived such an attack.
"Oh, well I don't live too far from the Everfree Forest, I went out to gather flowers yesterday and I saw you lying at the edge of the forest. When I got closer, I noticed all of the blood and saw just how close you were to death's door, you didn't have long so I carried you here as fast as I could."
"Wait, you carried me all the way to a hospital from the forest, wow, you must be pretty strong," I can't believe this, this mare pulled me from the jaws of death. I really do owe her my life, but how do I repay such an act?
"No, you're pretty light, so what's your name? I would like to meet the pony who lived through such an ordeal."
"Windbreaker, although if it weren't for you I would have probably bled out by now, what possessed you to save me out there? As far as you knew I wasn't going to be able to do anything in return." My life in Cloudsdale taught me that there are always string attached, even if it's the smallest favor or request it was always turned against you.
"What do you mean? You were dying and I certainly couldn't leave you out there, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if I let some pony die when I could help."
Seriously, this mare saved me for no other reason other than that it was the right thing to do. "I hope it's alright if I ask you what your name is."
"Oh how rude of me, my name is Fluttershy, I pleasure to meet you Windbreaker," my vision is still blurry as sin, eyes straighten up will you, I want to see the pony who just saved my life!
"The pleasure is all mine, especially since I owe you my life," I must repay this debt, I will not let such a kindness go unrecognized.
Ah finally, everything is getting less blurry I can finally see... whoa, okay this is too perfect, let's take a look at the facts, she saved my life so I know she is strong, she has the sweetest voice I have ever heard and she just happens to be a complete knockout beauty. Maybe I did die, there is no way that this just happened, I have to be dead or in a coma or something.
Seriously, this stunning mare with a pale yellow coat, long flowing pink mane and the most beautiful blue eyes I have ever seen. She is the one who saved my life, there is no way this can be real, well real or not I have to keep my composure, I don't want to creep her out.
"So why were you in the Everfree Forest, and for that matter just what happened to you?"
"Well I was on my way to Ponyville and I had to go through the forest, I didn't really have a choice to turn back when I got to the edge of the forest. A group of timber wolves ambushed me, tore my wing pretty good and chased me deep in the forest, eventually they caught me and I knew I was dead. I passed out when they were tearing me up and when I came to they had just left, I don't know why but they did and after limping for a short time I just couldn't go on."
"Oh my, that's horrible you really suffered quite a lot, the doctor said he would be surprised if you woke up on less than three days. Do you know any ponies here, friends or family?"
"Nope, my family is in Cloudsdale and I don't really have any friends, I usually drift from place to place and don't stick around in one place for too long. But looking at my injuries, I might be staying in this place for a good amount of time, not that I'm complaining."
"Oh, well you have a friend now, if you want one I mean."
Yeah, I'm so dead, she just became my friend, this absolutely gorgeous mare just saved my sorry flank and became my friend. "Sure, you saved my life, for no other reason other than it being the right thing to do, it would be an honor to have you as a friend."
"I'm so happy to hear that, so where do you plan on staying here?"
"Well, after I get released from here I'm going to get a room at the nearest inn and crash there for a bit."
"Oh, okay that sounds nice, oh it's getting late, I have to go now but I will be back tomorrow, until then Windbreaker."
"Good-bye Fluttershy, see you tomorrow," she left, well that kinda sucks, now I'm going to be thinking about her all night, great. But I need to figure out how long I'm going to be stuck here, I won't be able to sit around for too long before I start getting stir crazy.
Oh there's a doctor just outside the door, maybe he is the one that checked me in, "excuse me sir, can you come here for a moment."
"Yes what do you need?"
"Do you know how long I will be here?"
"Given your injuries, I'd say about a week maybe two, anything else?"
Great, two weeks stuck here with nothing to do this should be fun, "no sir thank you for your time."
Well, maybe Fluttershy can help pass the time, but I need some sleep, trying to move or anything else will just keep me here longer and give me serious pain. Just lean back, slowly and sleep this off, all I can do at this point since I can't really do anything else.
"Mr. Windbreaker?" Oh, is it morning already, too early! I need more sleep, I kept waking up in the middle of the night and for that reason I am still tired as sin.
"Huh?" My head is throbbing and my body is numb, is someone seriously waking me up right now? I would think that my injuries would merit some excuse to let me sleep.
"Sorry to wake you but, you have a visitor." Who could be- oh right, Fluttershy, and just like that all is forgiven.
"It's all right, I hate to sleep in too much anyway."
"Do you need anything right now?" Just some alone time with Fluttershy over there, that's all.
"No that's quite all right, thank you."
"Well with that I will take my leave, just call for us if you need anything."
"I will, thank you doctor." Okay, you can leave now, I kinda want to spend some alone time with that mare standing behind you.
"Oh, hey Windbreaker I didn't wake you up did I? I can come back later if you want." No, no, no please don't leave yet, you're the only one I can actually talk to around here!
"Oh no, it's okay I needed to wake up anyway I can't stand sleeping in too much, so how are you this fine day?"
"I've been better, how about you?"
"Compared to nearly dying yesterday, I'm doing a lot better, can't really fell much of anything but that's probably a good thing, what happened to you that makes feel not up to par?"
"Oh, it's nothing." No, you can't fool me, I know how mares act, when they say it's nothing like that, then it is most definitely something, what are you not telling me?
"Are you sure? It certainly sounds like something."
"Well, uh, it's a little embarrassing..."
Whoa that isn't a good sign, where exactly is this going? "Well I don't really have any pony to tell do I?"
"I guess not... well, I kind of had a dream about you last night."
Okay, this is either really good or really bad and I'm kind of terrified to find out which, "what kind of dream?"
"Well, I uh, I had a dream about when I first found you and took you to the hospital, only you didn't make it this time, it really scared me to see you die like that."
Okay, this day just got really weird, oh well, just gotta roll with it and see what happens, she shouldn't have to worry about me at this point anyway. "Well don't worry about it, because you stopped that from happening, thanks to you I will be out of here in a week and make a full recovery, I really owe you my life."
"I didn't really do anything, you don't have to owe me anything."
Is she serious right now? She got my sorry flank from death's door and practically put me in the hospital bed and she calls that doing nothing. The only way she could've done more is by physically is putting me on an operating table and operating on me right there.
"You call dragging me all the way from the forest to town and bringing me to this hospital not really doing anything? You give yourself too little credit Fluttershy, you did a lot more than you think and I am very grateful for what you did."
"I guess your right, so you will be released in a week?"
"That's what the doctor said two weeks at the very most but so long as I don't try to move around too much I don't see myself being stuck here that long."
"That's good, since you're going to be stuck here for a couple more days would you want to meet some of my friends that live in the town?"
Meeting her friends, that sounds like an easy way to pass a whole week, "I would love to, they must be really nice if their your friends."
"Well, they are really nice friends to have." Is she blushing right now? I think she is, I should probably pull back on the flattery a little.
"Can I ask that I meet them individually? If I'm going to be stuck here I want something to look forward to everyday, not that your visits haven't been making this much easier for me."
"Oh, of course, I can do that, I'm sure they will all be happy to meet you." Yeah, her face is starting to get a red glow, I probably overdid things a little.
"Are you okay? You're looking a little red." Wait, what just possessed me to say that? Pointing it out won't help anything at all!
"My face it's, it's red?" Oh boy, I done goofed, her face is getting that much redder, is it really that embarrassing?
"Uh, a little, I think it might be a little bit warm in here, I can ask them to turn the temperature if you want." Maybe, just maybe I can undo the damage I've done and save this conversation.
"Oh my, I think I should go now, I'll come back tomorrow okay?"
"Wait don't go-" and she's gone, well that was truly stupid of me telling her that, but was it really flattery that caused her face to get that red? I don't know, but I might as well go to sleep she will be back tomorrow and I don't feel like lying here and thinking this into oblivion.
But seriously, could she... no that's nonsense just stop thinking about it, she probably isn't used to ponies owing their lives to her, that's all. Oh, I guess time flies, it's almost dark so I should probably go to sleep, maybe I can get out early if I get enough sleep. Who am I kidding? I really just want to see Fluttershy again, I am certain I have a crush on her now, I should try to get some dinner with her, after I'm released of course.
"Mr. Windbreaker?" Oh, why do I have to keep waking up like this? Well, at least I got a decent night's sleep this time.
"Yeah?" Celestia my head hurts, for that matter my entire body hurts, painkillers must have worn off last night when I was sleeping, great.
"You have some visitors here, do you need anything before I leave?"
"No doctor, thank you." He said 'visitors' as in more than one, so who did Fluttershy bring today?
"Oh sorry Windbreaker I guess we woke you up, sorry, do you want us to leave?" No, no a thousand times no!
"Please stay, I really look forward to your visits, the doctor said visitors as in plural so I take it you brought a friend?"
"Oh yes, Windbreaker this is Twilight Sparkle, she is the town librarian as well as Celestia's personal student," Wow, she started off strong today, a student of Princess Celestia so she definitely has intelligence, indeed. Well, she is pretty attractive, not at Fluttershy's level but still, she has a purple coat but her mane is pretty with the dark purple contrast of the strands of pink and lavender.
"An honor to meet you, Miss Sparkle."
"Likewise Mr. Windbreaker, so I have been told you survived quite an ordeal in the past few days." That might be a little bit of an understatement.
"Well, being ambushed by a pack of timber wolves wouldn't exactly be described as a pleasant experience and the fact that I would have died if not for Fluttershy here makes it a little bit less so."
"Indeed, I can tell by the amount of bandages that they got you pretty good, how long are you going to be staying here?" At this point, way too long I just want to get out of here with my sanity intact.
"Six days after this one, so long as I don't try to move too much that is, so you are the personal student of Princess Celestia?" So, first I meet the drop dead beauty, and then I meet the closest pony to Canterlot royalty in my life, I can't wait to see who else is lined up for me to meet.
"Yes, although it isn't that big a deal, I'm just a normal unicorn, nothing too special." Nothing too special? I don't believe the ponies here, this getting a little ridiculous.
"You ponies here are much too modest, being the personal student of the princess and then saving my sorry life, two things viewed as not a big deal. I can't grasp how you view these achievements as minor, everywhere else ponies are not afraid to boast about their tiniest of accomplishments."
"Well, we've had to deal with a pony like that in the past but she left town after a day." Good, it's a quality I can't stand in any pony, I don't mind acknowledging an achievement but gloating about is just a little ridiculous.
"I'm glad to hear that, Fluttershy said you are the town librarian, correct?"
"Yes I am, if you ever need to borrow a book don't be afraid to ask." Good to know, I like to keep myself held up to some intellectual standard when I can.
"Thank you, I will definitely take you up on that offer." Okay, so I'm starting to get connections around town here this is a good thing, maybe I should consider sticking around here for a while after I'm released. First, I should see how my recovery goes and figure things out from there.
Fluttershy hasn't said a word since my introduction, is she still worrying about me? "Fluttershy are you okay? You're really quiet compared to yesterday."
"Oh, it's nothing." Really? She's trying to pull that again? Not gonna work my dear, not gonna work.
"Did you have that dream again?"
"Well... yes, it's really scary to think what would have happened if I didn't get you here in time, if you didn't make it." She really does care, wow that's really sweet not many other ponies would even care about my well being like she does.
"Fluttershy, you don't have to worry about that, you stopped that from happening, you saved my life and thanks to you I will be out of here in a few days." Please stop worrying about it, please!
"But, I can't stop thinking about it, to have you dying like that is just too much to bear." Fluttershy, why do you do this to me?
"Fluttershy, come over here, please." Okay good, now this will hurt like no other, sit up, GAH, okay lean forward and there we go. That hurt like no other but that hug was worth it.
"Uh, o-okay what was that for exactly?" Oh, she's turning red again, that could have just backfired.
"That was to prove to you that I'm still here and I'm not going anywhere anytime soon, so please, please stop worrying."
"O-okay, well I-I have to go now I will see you tomorrow okay." Wait, wait and she's gone again, every time now, note to self: do not make her face turn red.
"Well, that went well, I really am an idiot." Oh wait, Twilight's still here, so she just heard me call myself an idiot, whatever worse things have happened.
"That was really sweet." Come again, making her run out like that, Twilight, in what world is that sweet?
"She just ran out again, it happened yesterday too, I don't see how that's sweet, what am I doing that makes her run out of here like the building's on fire?"
"I'm sure she will be fine tomorrow, I'm going to make sure she gets home alright, it was a pleasure to meet you Windbreaker."
"The pleasure was all mine Twilight, good-bye." And solitude returns again, so I need to figure this out right now, why does she start blushing like that and then run out of here as fast as she can. It will be okay, she said she would be back tomorrow, just gotta lean back AH, still hurts like no other, ah there we go I need to sleep on this, goodnight world.
...That was a good night's sleep, better than my last two nights, wait. Why has no one tried to wake me up? Did Fluttershy try to come by today? I better not have slept through her visit, come on body wake up! Okay let's see, it's light out so afternoon, oh there's the doctor again.
"Excuse me doctor, do you have a minute?"
"Yes, how can I assist you?"
"Have I had any visitors today when I was asleep?" I am terrified as to the answer, but I have to know!
"No, honestly I was a little surprised, that mare came here at the exact same time everyday prior to this one to check on your recovery, it is a little odd."
"Thank you doctor, that is all sorry to interrupt your day." Wow I must have really screwed up yesterday, if she isn't even coming to visit anymore. I just lost the only pony that I would look forward to talking to help me pass the time, wow that's depressing. Might as well tilt my head back and get some more sleep, nothing else to do around here,
Wait, whose that pony in the hall, they look like they're dragging something and are they coming into my room?
"Uh, hello?" What is this pony doing? I can't see what they're dragging, can't risk trying to sit up again like I did yesterday.
"Howdy, so you're Windbreaker?" Who is this pony? I can tell she's a mare, there is a southern accent in her voice and like Twilight she's not bad in the looks department. A solid orange coat, golden mane and tail and they're kept in some hair ties, but what is she doing here?
"At you're service, well I would be if I wasn't in my current condition, were you dragging something in here?"
"Yep, can ya get up now? I had to drag ya from your cottage to get ya here, the least ya could do is say hello to him." Wait she was dragging some pony into my room and no pony said anything? This day just got interesting again.
"Who are you talking to?" Who was she dragging in here? Why was she dragging them here and- oh sweet Celestia it's Fluttershy.
"Come on, you told him you would come back today, you should honor your word, you already talked to him he won't bite." Wow, she had to be dragged here, I feel like such a jerk right and I didn't even have anything to do with it. Was yesterday really that bad?
"H..hey Windbreaker, h-how are you feeling today?" Something is going on here, she didn't have a problem talking to me yesterday.
"Well, a lot better now, I was starting to worry you weren't going to visit me today, but how are you feeling today? You seem a bit nervous." Yeah, maybe more that a bit.
"O-oh, it's... it's nothing." Fluttershy, it didn't work yesterday and it didn't work the day before that, it won't work today either.
"Fluttershy, please tell me what's going on, I can see that it's something, can you please just tell me what it is?"
"Well... it's just, I have to go now!" Wait, what? No!
"On no ya don't! Ya at least should answer him, he did say please Fluttershy, what is it?"
"Can... can I tell you out in the hall?" Okay, now I really want to know, just what is going on right now!
"I guess, can ya excuse us for a moment there Windbreaker?"
"I suppose." Okay what in the name of Celestia is going on here? Either the painkillers are getting to my head and I'm missing something kind of obvious or this is so cryptic that I can't figure this out without someone explaining it to me.
Okay, so their out in the hall talking about me, I really want to know what they're saying, but I really want an explanation from Fluttershy a lot more.
There's her friend again, but I don't see Fluttershy. "Uh, miss where did Fluttershy go?"
"Uh, well, she went home, but before ya start worryin' she promised she would still come and visit you everyday, even if I have to drag her here myself."
"Okay, thank you miss..." Oh. I never actually learned what her name is.
"AppleJack, a pleasure to meet your acquaintance."
"Likewise, so can you tell me exactly is going on with Fluttershy? Everyday now she is acting stranger and stranger and I really want to know what's going on."
"Well... I kind of promised her I wouldn't, sorry it must be irritatin' to not get an answer, but my hooves are tied here." Of course, this is unbelievable! I just want to know why she's acting like this, not asking for a hoof and a leg or some divine miracle.
"Well, okay if she asked you not to then I won't push the issue, so if I'm not prying, what do you do around here for work?"
"Oh well ya ain't prying, I work at the apple orchard just outside of town, my family owns it, Sweet Apple Acres." Wow, this mare must work hard to be the owner of an orchard.
"Impressive, it must be a lot of work to manage an entire orchard everyday, you must be quite strong."
"Oh I'm not that strong, just a hard-worker." Oh no, she's starting to turn red, this could end up like Fluttershy's departure yesterday. "Still thank ya for the compliment," okay good she isn't making a break for the door.
...Okay I should break this silence before it gets too unbearable.
"So... what exactly happened before you came to visit, albeit with an uncooperative Fluttershy in tow?"
"Well, I don't really know, a few days ago she told me and her other friends how she found ya and took ya to the hospital and how ya wanted to meet us. She planned for each of us to come a different day, Twilight was here yesterday I was to come today and... well I will leave the other three to be a surprise. But anyway, I went out to Fluttershy's cottage to come up here with her, but when I knocked on her door, she was fakin' bein' sick. I could tell she was so I told her that she would not back out on this, ya really been through a lot and need a friend around to help ya get through this."
"Yeah, that is not a good thing, I didn't think that she was that caught off guard from what happened yesterday, I feel like I did something stupid." Probably because I did, such a stupid thing to do and it might have royally screwed my friendship with her over.
"Well, what did ya do yesterday?"
"Well, Fluttershy was having this recurring dream about me dying in the hospital, how she wasn't fast enough, I felt bad that she was so worried about me. So, I summoned all the strength I had and sat up and gave her a hug, then she practically ran out like the building was on fire."
"Ya hugged her? Then, she just ran out, because ya gave her a hug?"
"Pretty much, I don't get it, her face just turned bright red and she just ran out in such a hurry, I feel really bad, and now she doesn't wanna be in the same room as me." That's the story of me throwing away one of the best friendships I ever had in less than five minutes, any questions?
"Well, don't ya fret none, she will come around just give her a day or two." Is she grinning right now? How could she feel anything close to happiness about what I just said? Just what in Tartaraus is going on here?!? Asking about this is getting me nowhere so I should just change the subject.
"Alright, so you want to ask me anything to try to get to know me better?"
"Just a confirmation, did ya really survive a timber wolf attack in the Everfree Forest?" No, I was mauled to death and am now a ghost here to haunt you for all eternity.
"Only because Fluttershy dragged my sorry flank to this hospital, without her I doubt I would have lasted even an hour out there before bleeding to death."
"So she really saved your life out there, my gosh ya really got lucky didn't ya?" You have no idea.
"Oh definitely, I owe Fluttershy my life, and to see her feeling the way she does just tears at me. Especially since I am the one causing it, I just feel stupid for doing that to her."
"Ya really do care about her don't ya?" Yes, yes a million times yes, is there a point?
"Of course, she is the nicest pony I've met in so many years, and the fact that she dragged me here out of moral code just adds to that."
"Well, that's all I needed to hear, I'm gonna go make sure Fluttershy's alright, ya take care of yourself and don't try to take on anymore timber wolves before I see ya again, alright?" No, as soon as you leave I'm going out and having a rematch with those bloodthirsty beasts.
"I will try to keep my wolf fighting urges in check, a pleasure to meet you Ms. AppleJack."
"Likewise, try to get some sleep, ya need it."
Once again, solitude takes hold and another day is done and another friend met, not a bad day except for Fluttershy running out again. I really need to know exactly what is going on with her, I'm starting to get worried, but thinking this into oblivion will solve nothing. Sleep, all I need right now is sleep.
"Mr. Windbreaker?" Okay, I've never been so happy to have been woken up by a doctor.
"Yes?"
"You have some visitors today." Perfect, okay eyes open up time to visit.
"Thank you, if I need anything I will let you know." Don't mean to be crass but I really want to actually have a conversation with Fluttershy today.
"Well then, I will take my leave."
Okay who am I meeting today? Okay let's see she's a pegasus like myself, her coat is cyan blue and her tail and mane are literally rainbow, this should be interesting. There's Fluttershy, and it doesn't look like she was dragged here this time, that's a good sign.

"Good morning, h-how are you feeling today?" Now that you are standing here of your own free will, borderline ecstatic.
"Pretty good, especially since you weren't dragged here like yesterday, by the way, am I ever gonna get an explanation about that?"
"Um... well, have you met my friend Rainbow Dash?" Okay so no, and you know I haven't.
"Well, no I haven't had the pleasure yet."
"Oh well, Rainbow this is Windbreaker, Windbreaker this is Rainbow Dash."
"Hiya, so you're the pony that survived a pack of timber wolves in the Everfree Forest?" Nope, I'm the one who ran through a burning building, the guy you're talking about is about three doors down the hall.
"Yeah, thanks to your friend Fluttershy here."
"Wow, I'm impressed, I don't think even I would have gotten through that unscathed." Really, no I'm sure you could take them... in the most advanced armor ever made, a hundred years from now.
"Yeah, so what is your job here in Ponyville?"
"Well, when I'm not training to be apart of the Wonderbolts, I keep the clouds and weather under control here and create rainstorms when needed." The Wonderbolts? Well, she aims pretty high, I'll give her that.
"The Wonderbolts? Well, I wish you the best of luck with that, getting into the Wonderbolts, that is probably the hardest group to join in Equestria."
"Luck? Ha, who needs luck when you're as awesome as I am!" Modesty, I like that, I guess I know why every other pony here doesn't get too caught up in there achievements. Because this mare is not afraid to and make every pony around painstakingly aware of hers.
"Indeed." Fluttershy is silent again, I don't like that too much because I really enjoy talking to her when I can. "Fluttershy you're being quiet again is something the matter?" Please don't try to lie again, four days in a row would just be ridiculous you know.
"N-not today, I'm being sincere this time, nothing to hide I just don't feel that talkative today." Okay, I believe you, just glad to hear nothing is wrong.
"You're never talkative Fluttershy, in all the years I've known you, you've never been too talkative to any pony, in fact I'm surprised you're so talkative with this pony here." In case you weren't aware, I DO have a name, you heard it when you walked in I know you did.
"Well, maybe she doesn't need to be, I feel her actions speak in place of her words and that's fine with me." That my friend is the truth, I firmly believe that.
"Well, I never said that was a bad thing did I?" Oh crap, I think I just snapped at her without the intention of doing so.
"T-thank you, Windbreaker that, that really means a lot to hear some pony say that." Whoa, did Fluttershy just thank me? Were those words really that powerful? Wait, is she crying? Did I just make her cry?!? How stupid of me! How could I just make her cry?!?
"Whoa, are you okay Fluttershy, you're not lookin' so hot?" Rainbow, pointing it out doesn't help anything!
"No, no I'm fine, just fine don't worry about me." Wait, why is she coming toward me? Not that it's a bad thing just GAH- ...never before... have I felt such a combination... of pain... and joy... in my life! Once again, the pain... totally worth a hug.
"You're... welcome... Fluttershy..." Celestia this hurts, but I don't care I never want this moment to end.
"Oh, am I hurting you?!?" Yes, but not enough for me to care.
"No... you're... fine... I'm... fine." Please don't stop, not for my sake at least.
"No you're not!" And that perfect moment ended, horsefeathers. "I didn't mean to hurt you I'm so sorry!"
"Fluttershy, if I really was getting hurt enough I would have asked you to stop, that was really nice of you to do."
"Well, I think that's a good time for me to go, nice to meet ya Windbreaker but I have a trick I need to work on."
"Okay, see you later." I wonder why she left? Now it's just me and... oh I see, she felt like a third wheel.
"I shouldn't have done that! That was so stupid of me! I could have hurt you a lot an-" No, just no I will not have you start that, not that. Celestia her lips feel soft!
"That felt really nice, I don't care about how it hurt, the pain didn't matter so don't go worrying. If a pack of bloodthirsty timber wolves couldn't do me in, I seriously doubt a hug would. Okay?"
"I guess, but still-" I said not that, also again her lips feel so soft!
"No, just no, it felt nice and was worth any pain that it could have caused, I really mean that." A thousand fold pain would have made no difference what so ever I mean that.
"Well, at least tell me where it hurt." Why do you ask?
"The back of my neck mostly, right about there but I don't see ho-" ooooooh, that feels so good, she has an angel's voice, and a touch to match, sweet Celestia she is perfect.
"There, does that feel better?" You have no idea.
"Yeah... just please mind the wing... it got torn pretty good and still hurts from minor taps."
"Okay, just relax okay, I will help make you feel better." Whatever you say, this mare couldn't be anymore perfect, I am completely in love with her. As soon as I'm out of this place, I'm taking her out on a date, if she says yes of course.
"Fluttershy... thank you... thank you so much." This is nothing short of heavenly!
"Shh, just try to go to sleep alright, I promise I will be here when you wake up." If you say so, I trust you, I trust...you.
Oh Celestia, I have never had a better night's sleep, thank you Fluttershy I feel so much better. They must have made her leave last night, wait I just woke up for the second time on my own. That's never a good sign, okay body get up I need to see if some pony has tried to visit.
Wait, some pony's in that chair over there, it's... Fluttershy? They let her stay here overnight? She wanted to stay here overnight? She really meant it when she said that, and from the looks of things she's asleep, she looks so peaceful, just as perfect as any other time I see her. I should just let her sleep, I have no idea how long she was up massaging my neck, which feels so much better now!
Oh there's a doctor, and they're coming into my room, why are they coming into my room?
"Mr. Windbreaker?" At least he's being considerate about the mare sleeping on the other side of the room by whispering.
"Yes?"
"We have some great news, you will be leaving in three days, your wounds are all healing nicely and we just need to remove the staples and stitches." Painful, but good to hear none the less.
"When do you plan to do that?"
"The day after tomorrow, it is a very minor surgical procedure, but I'm afraid your mare friend over there won't be able to visit you that day." Horse feathers, oh well it can't be helped and she will understand.
"Okay, I understand doctor, is that all?"
"Yes, I will let you know if you have anymore visitors, good day Mr. Windbreaker."
"Good day to you sir." Well, I can't wait to tell Fluttershy, three days and then I will ask her out on a date!
Oh no, she's waking up I must have been talking too loudly, she deserves to get some more sleep. Still, I get to spend more time with her so that's always a plus in my book.
"Good morning, Sunshine."
"Oh, Windbreaker you're up, I didn't wake you up did I?" Yes, you're deafening silence woke me up, that is exactly what happened.
"No, I didn't know you had stayed overnight until I woke up five minutes ago, but the doctor came in and told me very good news, with a touch of bad news."
"Well, what's the good news?"
"I will be out of here in three days time!"
"Oh Windbreaker that's wonderful news! So what's the bad news?"
"I have to get my stitches and staples taken out the day before, and I can't have visitors at all that day." A day without Fluttershy, I'm shuddering just thinking about it.
"That news isn't so bad."
"Well, I find it terrible that I will have to go a full day without seeing you." And by terrible I mean devastating.
"I think you'll manage, you did survive that timber wolf attack after all." I guess you have a point.
"Thanks to you, so what is going on today?"
"Well, I planned for my friend Pinkie Pie to come and meet you but I will have to go get her."
"That's fine, just be quick okay? I literally will have no pony to talk to while you're away."
"Okay, I will be back as fast as I can." Oh, that smile, such a beautiful smile!
She's gone, at least this time she's coming back instead of trying to get out of here like the place was burning down. I don't even feel tired so sleeping for a few is out of the question, all I can do is stare out the window and wait for her return. At least the morning sun gives me a good view, such a beautiful day but nowhere near as beautiful as that pegasus, not even a competition.

It's been about twenty minutes, she should be here any minute now, right?
Wait, there's some pony coming in here, pink coat and darker and poofy pink mane and tail, why do I get the feeling this is Pinkie Pie?

"HIYA! ARE YOU WINDBREAKER?!?" This pony sure likes sugar, or is really hyper.
"Um... yes?"
"OH MY GOSH IT'S SO GOOD TO MEET YOU, FLUTTERSHY TOLD US ALL ABOUT YOU AND-"
"Pinkie!" Whoa, was that Fluttershy? I've never heard her raise her voice before, wow.
"Yes, Fluttershy?"
"Now I know you're excited, but I told you to let me walk in with you, he probably thought you were just some crazy pony that barged into his room. Also, I told you that he has been through a lot, so please speak quietly and slow down a little, please." Wow, Fluttershy just laid down the law, each day just keeps getting more interesting than the last.
"Okey, dokey, lokey, hi I'm Pinkie Pie nice to meet ya." Wow, just like that? Just as calm as Fluttershy, interesting.
"A pleasure, as you know my name is Windbreaker."
"Yep, you had a run in with some timber wolves right?" Nope, that guys four doors down on the left.
"Yeah, so what do you do around here Pinkie Pie?" Let me guess, you make candy for a living.
"I work at Sugarcube Corner, I make cakes, cupcakes, candy and well, every kind of sweet you can imagine." Wow, I pretty much hit that nail on the head.
"Sounds like a fun job."
"It is! Almost as fun as throwing parties, speaking of which, we need to throw you a 'Welcome to Ponyville' party!" Wait, what? Oh, no, no a thousand times no!
"Um that's not necessary, I really don't like parties." Every party I was at when I was a foal, didn't exactly end well, other foals didn't exactly treat me as a friend.
"WHAT?!? HOW CAN YOU NOT LIKE PARTIES! THAT'S THAT'S-"
"Pinkie! What did I ask you to do about the volume?"
"Sorry, Fluttershy I just can't believe you're friend doesn't like parties."
"It's okay but as for your party idea, I doubt the guest of honor would want to go wearing enough bandages to look like a Nightmare Night zombie." Thank you Fluttershy, you just saved my sorry flank again.
"You may have a point, but I still have to get this party planned, as soon as he's better we'll throw him a party than the one Twilight got! Bye Windbreaker!" Wait no! She's gone, I really don't need a party, I mean I really, really don't need a party.
"Honestly that pony, sorry about that she just loves to throw parties and make new friends." I can tell.
"That's alright, I just really don't like parties, ever since I was a foal."
"Why's that?" Well, time for one of those 'get to know each other better' stories.
"Well, every party I went to as a foal ended with me being the brunt of every pony's jokes. One time I got nailed in the back of the head with a slice of cake, every pony laughed, even the parents and I haven't been to one since."
"Oh my, that's terrible! Why were they so mean to you?" Why the same reason they were mean to any pony, because I was different.
"Because I didn't interact with other foals, I was content to be alone, whether with a book, a movie or just staring out into the beautiful scenery of Cloudsdale. And for that I was labeled, different and was then made a target by the cruelest and meanest of the foals that lived there."
"Wow, that sounds a lot like me." What? Fluttershy, seems like the one that all the colts would be after.
"How so?"
"Well, I never fit in up in Cloudsdale, I was a weak flyer and like you, I liked to keep to myself, every pony taunted me mercilessly... it still hurts to think about." Oh no, don't cry Fluttershy, please don't cry I don't like seeing you cry!
And she's crying, only one thing to do, "Fluttershy, come here."
"N-no, I don't want you to get hurt again, I'll be okay I promise." I don't believe that.
"Please? You really need a shoulder to cry on right now, and it's not like mine are being used for anything."
"O-okay." This feels... so nice... the only thing that would... make this better,,, is if my body wasn't... in so much pain!
"Oh! Is you're neck still bothering you?" Yeah, yeah it is, a lot.
"Yeah... but it's not bad... I can handle it." I can't believe how much I'm lying through my teeth right now.
"Yes it is bad, let me help you, you need it." If you insist, I would love another massage.
"No... you don't need to-" ooon second thought yes, yes you do, this feels just amazing,
"Sh, yes I do, you need to get some rest, and letting you sit here with this much pain will do neither of us any good. Just go to sleep okay, I will be here with you when you wake up." Whatever you say... she's just... so... perfect....
Ah, another amazing night's sleep, Fluttershy I love you! So I have two more days until I leave, I need a plan, where should I take her? What should we eat? What does she like to eat? My head is just going to start spinning with these questions until my release aren't they?
Is Fluttershy sleeping in the chairs over there again?.. Yep. I feel kind of bad, sleeping like that cannot be good for her at least today she will go home and enjoy sleeping in her own house. Now I just wait for her to wake up, watching her sleep so peacefully, makes my heart beat a little faster thinking about what will happen in two days.
"WINDBREAKER, NO!" Whoa, what? Fluttershy? What in the name of Celestia?
"Fluttershy? Fluttershy! What happened are you alright?!?" No, no don't tell me she had another nightmare.
"Oh-oh Windbreaker you're okay, thank Celestia!" Whoa calm down, you're hyperventilating and sweating a lot.
"Yeah, but you should sit down, you seem a bit excited, what happened? Did you have that dream again?" Sweet Celestia every time she has this dream it makes me feel so bad, being responsible for making Fluttershy so worried.
"N-no, I had a different dream, it was scary though." Okay, so she isn't worried about me dying anymore that's good.
"What happened in your dream?" What could have made her so scared to scream like that?
"I... I dreamed that you just left, you were just gone and you didn't tell any pony and you didn't even say... goodbye." Wow, the thought of me just leaving is making her cry, she really does care about me.
"Fluttershy, I can't believe that you think I would do that to you. I will never just leave without saying goodbye, I'm considering the idea of just not leaving entirely." I have no reason to leave, no obligations no place to actually go, so I might as well settle down here... with Fluttershy.
"R-really, you're thinking about staying here in Ponyville?" Well, yeah why wouldn't I?
"Yeah, you look like you might need a shoulder to cry on, and mine won't be doing anything here." My mind is made up, I'm staying, Fluttershy might need me here but definitely likes that I'm here and that's enough.
"Windbreaker, that- that's wonderful to hear!" I suppose that it is, and I don't have to worry about where I'm going next but I will miss the nomadic lifestyle.
"Just please make sure Pinkie Pie keeps the part sm-" gah- ... the pain... is a lot better today, these hugs are actually getting less painful.
"Of course, but you still have to meet another friend of mine before you get out of the hospital." Oh right I almost forgot.
"Can't wait, you okay now? Seeing you cry like that just tears at me and I want to make sure your okay before you go."
"Yeah, yeah I'm okay now and I saved my best friend for last, I can tell that you two will get along well. Be back in a few okay?"
"Please hurry." I really hate being alone around here.

Oh, there she is, and she looks a little flustered, "hey Fluttershy is everything alright?"
"N-no not really Windbreaker, being here has neglected my chores and house upkeep so I need to get that done right away." That's a shame, I don't get to spend more time with her today, or tomorrow, horse feathers!
"I understand, the world won't stop spinning for my sake, but could you work fast? I won't be able to see you tomorrow."
"Okay, I will try before I go this is my friend Rarity I'm sure you two will be good friends by the time I get back."
"Bye, Fluttershy I will miss you."
"Bye Windbreaker." Okay, so Rarity, a white unicorn with a royal blue mane and tail, both well maintained, so she takes pride in her appearance.
"Hello." I'm curious to see how this will go.
"Hello, my name is Rarity a pleasure to meet you- uh Windbreaker correct?"
"At your service, or I would be if not for all the bandages."
"I see, Fluttershy has told us about you surviving such a ghastly ordeal."
"Only because of her, I really owe her a lot." Just more than my life, I need to know how to repay her.
"You really hold her in high regard don't you?" Of course! Why would you ask that?
"Well, of course I do! She saved my life out of pure kindness, and ever since has made my life better than it has been for a number of years, I l-." Whoa there, don't go spilling your guts sir the wolves already tried to do that, oh she caught on. That look in her eyes tells me oh so much, including all of the ideas that she's getting.
"You love her, don't you?" Well, she got me, she got me good, might as well tell her the truth.
"Y-yes, but I don't care who knows, I'll announce it to the heavens if I have to." Well, I kind of want to keep it under wraps around Fluttershy until I'm out of here.
"Ah romance, seeing such a mutual love just makes me wish it would happen to me too." Wait mutual what does she mean by that? She can't mean-
"Wait, you're telling me Fluttershy feels the same way?!?"
"Oh, you didn't know? I thought it was a little obvious for you." Ow, she just insulted my intelligence right now, but I can't call her on it, she still has to answer my questions.
"How so?" Enlighten me, Ms. Rarity.
"When Twilight visited, do you remember when Fluttershy left unexpectedly and had to be dragged here the next day?" What does that have to do with the situation at hand?
"Yes." Where is this going?
"Well, Fluttershy came to my house that day, completely frazzled, she explained what happened and was so confused, she never really felt this way about any pony, she told me. When she realized she promised to come back the next day, she was terrified and AppleJack was forced to keep that promise for her." Wow, I'm gonna blame those pain pills for that, yeah it definitely was those pills.
"We finally convinced her the next day that you needed her here and she needed to put her feelings aside, for you. Then, Rainbow Dash came to me after her visit and told me what happened, that's when it hit me. I realized that you had similar feelings, now I haven't told Fluttershy and I won't depending on how you answer my next question."
"Okay," not exactly fair but I'm not in any position to challenge that.
"Now that you know all of this, what do you plan to do?" My dear, this is a simple question, with a simple answer.
"Get out of this hospital, then take Fluttershy on the best date either of us ever had!" I assume that answer is satisfactory.
"Good, now I'm going to make you a suit, get her an elegant dress and set up reservations at one of the nicest restaurants in town, leave it to me and everything will go perfectly." Wow, that just happened.
"Well, that really only leaves me one task, doesn't it?"
"Yes, when do you plan to do it?"
"I was thinking when I'm released, but I think if I can today that would be best."
"Then with that I will get everything set up and get Fluttershy back here, good luck."
"Thank you Ms. Rarity, for everything." Let's see if it pays off.
So, now I just sit here and wait, keeping these doubts at bay.

"Yeah, Rarity said you had something important to tell me." Okay here goes nothing!
"Would you like to go out with me when I get out of the hospital the day after tomorrow?" Please, please, please...
"I, uh... y- yes I will, I would love to go out with you!" Yes! Life is good, thank you, you stupid, stupid wolves you just made my life perfect, I don't think I've ever been this glad to be mauled by a bunch of wild animals in my life.
"Thank you Fluttershy I don't think I've ever been s-" ...okay, I knew her lips were soft, but I didn't know they were this soft! Our first kiss, yep perfect, everything is just perfect in my world, I don't ever want this moment to end, but I know it has to, and it just did.
"Oh my gosh, I don't know what came over me I'm s-" No, no more pointless apologies, I don't know if this is our first kiss still, but I really don't care.
"That was... for lack of better words magical, now please get some sleep in your home tonight I will see you when I get released okay?"
"U-um, o... okay I will, goodbye Windbreaker."
"Goodbye Fluttershy, I can't wait to see you again."
This day could not be described by any other word besides perfect, absolutely perfect. Now tomorrow, that's a different story, oh well it's the last day might as well get it over with. Goodnight world....
