It was a warm midsummer eve and Twilight Sparke was at the old castle in Canterlot. The Purple unicorn had climbed its roof and stood now at the top of it, looking down at the courtyard. She hade brought her telescope with her, and placed it right on the brick tiles, securing it with a bit of string. Hopefully it would not fall down. Twilight adjusted the lence and pointed the telescope to the sky, where the famous comet would pass in the middle of the night. She desperately wanted to see it. The comet only appeared once in a hundred years, and she could not stand the thought of missing out om it.
"Twilight! Be careful!" shouted Fluttershy, safely on the ground. "Don´t fall down!"
She was afraid of heights, despite the fact that she was a pegasus. Flutteshy prefared to hover just above treetop height, and the old castle was way taller.
"Don´t worry! I have it under control," said Twilight and gazed trough the lence of her telescope, pointing it downward. She saw a light blue shape passing trough gates to Celestia´s gardens. Rainbow Dash. Rainbow carried a big, wooden crate under her wing.
When she came closer, Twilight could see a big smile on Rainbow´s face.
"I have wonderful news!" the pegasus shouted. "I have bought a brand new jetpack on the internet, and it will be awesome!"
"A jetpack?!"
"Yes! The best jetpack money could buy!"
"But... isn´t it dangerous?" said Fluttershy.
"Off course not! I am an expert flyer, and this new cool jetpack will make me the fastest pegasus alive! I will be in the news! In the news, Fluttershy! It will be awesome!"
"But... um... have you ever used a jetpack before...?"
"Off course! I mean, I havn´t pesononally used it, but I have red the manual... Ok, I´ve looked at the pictures, but it´s almost the same thing."
Rainbow Dash put the crate on the paving and removed its lid. There was a shiny, metallic shape, much like a pair of rockets. She touched the aluminium with her hoof.
"It looks dangerous..." said Fluttershy.
"Pff! Not dangerous at all! Help me strap it to my back and then... Swosh! Zoom! Swisch!"
"Oh, my...."
The sun had setted behind the castle´s old masonry and the sky was darkening. Birds sang and a chilly wind swept in from the east. Twilight lit a small lantern and placed it on her pile of astronomical books. The unicorn wrapped herself in a blanket and rested her back against the chimney. The evening sky was beautiful and she could see far away over the Equestrian landscape. Soon the stars would glitter in the sky and the comet would pass. She checked her starmap an extra time. Twilight heard a loud snore from the courtyard and saw that Rainbow Dash had fallen asleep in a hammock. She promised herself that she would wake her up in time to see the comet.
"Um... Twilight, it´s getting chilly... And dark... I will go inside and warm myself... If it´s okay with you?"
"Off course, Fluttershy. I will call on you when the comet appears."
And the yellow pegasus went inside the old castle. Twilight was now alone on the roof. She looked at the old clock in the clocktower across the courtyard and decided to drink her coffee. She must not fall asleep and miss the comet...
But she fell asleep. When Twilight woke up, the birds had already began to sing and the sun was rising! The sky was golden and orange, like it was painted in the most beautiful colurs.
"No! I missed it! I missed the comet!" sceamed Twilight.
She stomped her hooves on the tiles and shouted. A tile cracked and came tumbling down the steep roof together with small bits of moss and mortar. It shattered against the paving with a loud crash.
"Huh?! What? Wha...?" said a dazzled Rainbow Dash, confused over the sudden noise that had awoken her.
"Rainbow! Im so sorry! I fell asleep and I missed the comet!" cried Twilight.
"A comet?"
"Yes! The comet of a century! I will never get a chance to see it again... I will never see the comet!"
Twilight was so disapointed she almost started to cry. It was so unfair!
"I didn´t know there was a comet..." said Dash.
"But that´s the whole reason we came here! Why do you think I am up on the roof with a telescope?"
"I... I thought you all wanted to see... the fastest pegasus... alive?" said Rainbow, realizing how stupid it sounded.
Twilight smiled a little. Rainbow Dash, always thinking the whole world circled around her...
"No, Rainbow, I came here to..."
She leaned on the telescope, and felt how the whole instrument suddenly gave way! It tipped over and the unicorn could only watch in horror as it fell down the roof, taking several tiles with it and crashed down in the courtyard!
"My telescope!" she screamed. "My precious telescope!!!"
It shattered against the paving in a cloud of dust and broken parts. A window opened in the highest tower, and she could see princess Luna looking at her, tired and annoyed.
"TWILIGHT SPARKLE! WHAT IS THAT NOISE?!"
Then she saw the destroyed telescope and the shocked and sad expression in Twilights face.
"Oh," she said and scatched her mane. "Don´t worry... I buy you a new telescope. Just be quiet and let me SLEEP! It´s almost daytime and I need to sleep."
The lunar princess put on a sleep-mask over her eyes and shut the window.
Twilight started to climb down from the roof, carefully avoiding to step in the holes that the fall of her telescope had caused. She could see into the castle´s dining room from above. Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash helped her and together they soon arrived safely on the ground.
"Maybe I know a way to cheer you up..." Rainbow said.
"You do?" said Twilight, still mourning the loss of her telescope.
"Yes! In fact, it will be awesome! I will strap the jetpack to my back and then... Swosh! Fluttershy, help me with the rocket-thingy!"
Fluttershy carefully adjusted the device on the pegasus´s back.
"Do you want it to be set on minimum power...?" she asked, hoping that it would somehow minimize the danger.
"No! Turn it on maximum! I will fly fast! Faster than Twilights old comet!"
"Um... okey..."
"Good! Where is the start button?"
Rainbow began to randomly press buttons and turn levers. A small lamp lit up.
And then the jetpack´s twin rockets ignited with a loud roar! The sudden force lifted the pegasus from the ground and sent her flying like a missile, right up in a terrifying arch trough over castles´s towering masonry.
"AAaaaaaahhhHHHH!!!" screamed Rainbow as she passed princess Luna´s bedroom with all four legs flailing in panic. Then she somehow changed direction, mid air, and dove right into the old gardenpond with a splash.
Twilight and Fluttershy rused into the pond and salvaged the confused and shaked pony, dragging her ashore. Rainbow Dash spat out a water lily and freed herself from the remaining pieces of the jetpack.
"Rainbow! Are you okay?" said Fluttershy, worried.
Dash nodded, but her face was pale and her legs shivered.
The noise and confusion in the garden had once again awoken princess Luna, who now emerged in her window, not in a happy mode.
"LET ME SLEEP!" she screamed and threw her pillow at the ponies. "Tonight my comet will pass over the sky, and I must be alert to keep it on the right course!"
"Tonight?" asked Twilight.
"YES!"
"Then... I havn´t missed it at all?"
"THAT IS CORRECT!"
"Oh... So I can still observe it from the roof?"
"Yes. Now, let me sleep."
And that night, all the ponies sat on the roof, watching the comet trough Twilight´s new telescope. Exept for Rainbow Dash, who fell asleep, dreaming about the new jetpack she had ordered from the internet...

It was a warm, sunny day in Canterlot and the birds sang in Celestia´s vast garden. But Twilight Sparkle was inside, sitting in the old castle liberary, reading her books. The unicorn had not even been outside in three days now, she was completely bruried in her books. The princess started to worry about her favorite student and decided that it was time for Twilight to get out and do something healthy.
"Twilight" she said with a big smile on her face. "I have concocted a plan... There will be a fimmaking competition, and I want you to participate. Me and Luna will be the judges and the winner will get a prize!"
"A filmmaking competition?"
"Yes! Are you interested? You can use Canterlot´s old camera that we bought some years ago..."
"But I havn´t red any books about filmmaking!"
"Nopony has! There are no books about that in Equestria, my faithful student. You will have to go out and start filming."
The same afternoon, Twilight and her friends assembled in the Canterlot garden and unpacked the old, dusty camera from its crate.
"It looks ancient," said Rarity. "When did she say they bought it?"
"Property of Starswirl the Bearded..." Rainbow Dash said, mockingly. "I wonder if it still works?"
"Oh! May I try it...?" asked Fluttershy.
She took the camera and loaded it with film and a newly charged battery. Fluttershy pressed the red START-button and started filming.
"Oh, my! I want to film animals. And birds, and butterflies and..."
"Yeah..." said Rainbow Dash, scratching her mane with her hoof. "It sounds awesome... But I was thinking, maybe we should do something more... something cooler!"
"Like 20% cooler?" said Rarity, trying not to burst with laughter.
"Mhm..." said Rainbow Dash, not very amused. "I have written a script about a fast, daring pegasus. She is the fastest pegasus alive and..."
"Has her name possibly something to do with rainbows?" asked Rarity.
"No! Off course not! She is called... hm... her name is... is..."
Rainbow Dash quickly hid the script under her wing. But Rarity grabbed it from her, fast like a deadly viper!
"No! Don´t read that!" screamed Rainbow.
"The Amazing Adventures of Rainbow Dash, Captain of the Rainbowbolts and Fastest Flyer in Equestria...?" she red out loud. "You wrote a script all about yourself?!"
"It´s not like that!"
"But it says so right here on the first page!"
"And... I thought... eh... it had to be a documentary... and... I..."
"Rainbow, we have to make this film about something we can all agree on," said Twilight. "It can´t be a film all about you!"
"You are all ganging up on me! It´s not fair!" Rainbow shouted and stomped her hooves. "But I will make my film ANYWAY! And I will win this competition!"
And then Rainbow stormed off. Twilight felt bad, she knew that they had somehow hurt her feelings. Rainbow Dash had her flaws, but she was also loyal and kind. What in Earth had gotten into her?
"What happened?" she asked.
"Just her pride," said Rarity. "Rainbow was like that a lot when she was younger... She´ll soon get over it. Her ego is big, but so is her heart."
The next day Rainbow Dash had bought a brand new camera and employed a gray, wall-eyed pegasus as its filmcrew. The two pegasi landed on the roof, carefully avoiding to step in the holes made by Twilight´s capsized telescope a week earlier.
"Careful now, Derpy..."
"It´s a piece of cake!" Derpy Hooves said, placing the camera on the chimney. "Or a piece of muffin! I wish I had a muffin right now..."
"Yeah... I´ll get you a muffin when we are done filming. Now, let´s make the most awesome film ever!"
And Rainbow Dash started to fly around the castle´s old towers, tumbling trough the air at high speed.
At the same time, Twilight, Rarity and Fluttershy was filming all the things they had agreed on; It was a film of a squirrel eating an acorn. Then Rarity stepped into the picture, wearing a beautiful outfit and the squirrel ran of. Twilight suggested that they shuld somehow make it a documentary on squirrels, but nopony knew where they could find a new squirrel.
Then Rainbow Dash passed over them, swooshing trough the air! She hade the speed of a cannonball and made a barrel roll before she disappared behind the castle´s wall.
"Oh..." said Fluttershy. "She is so fast!"
Dash came in for another turn, made a half loop and left a rainbow colored trail after her.
"Fluttreshy! Focus! We must find something interesting to film. Princess Celestia is counting on me, and I can´t let her down!"
When the time came for the two princesses to review all the films, they gathered the participants in Canterlot´s liberary. It was dark outside and the castle´s gardener, Mr Greenhooves, had hung a white sheet on the wall, right over an old portrait of Clover the Clever.
The ponies were full of exitement when the first film started to roll. It was a bad, shaky film of a donkey getting hit by a football. Everyone laughed, except Cranky the Donkey, who was the one getting hit. (But after a while, he found it funny too)
The next film was Rainbow Dash´s. She was so proud and knew that her film would easily win the competition. She had used the best camera money could buy, carefully instructed Derpy Hooves to hold the camera steady and also, as a matter of precaution, used only top quailty film.
But when the film rolled, it was pitch black. Derpy had forgot to take of the lid from the lence!
"NO!" screamed Dash in shock. "It can´t be true!!! ArrrggHHH!!! All my effort! All my stunts!"
She then realized that the whole crowd was looking at her.
"But... on the other hoof, I think it was best that way... I wanted so desperately to win over my friends, just to prove that my idea was the best idea all along. But now I don´t think it matters at all. The important thing is to have fun and I don´t have to win every time."
The ponies aplauded her speech and agreed that Rainbow Dash should get a consolidation prize for her effort. And then, they showed Twilight, Rarity and Fluttershy´s film. It was a squirrel, Rarity and... Rainbow Dash! Fluttershy had filmed her flight and followed her perfectly with the camera, carefully documenting most of her stunts. All ponies gazed in awe and Celestia and Luna decided to award the prize to Twilight and her team.
"But Rainbow Dash and Derpy will get second prize: A basket of muffins!" Celestia said.
"Yay!" shouted Derpy.
