I step into a small laboratory under the Master Heroes Headquarters. I had been sent a message from the smartest hero in my newest team, Will. As soon as I step inside the room, I see three teenage heroes tinkering with a strange circular doorway.
A 13-year-old boy with a purple shirt and unbuttoned labcoat sees me, and stands up. "Hello, Will," I say to the child, "what did you need me for?"
The oldest of the trio, Gamer, turns away from her work. "Darkfire, we are almost done with the portal. You can go back to the past soon." I smile at the good news. I had been wanting to return to the past so I could save my friends from being killed by the villain known as Destructo.
"How long?" I ask Gamer. The last of the trio, the cheerful nephew of my old friend Rocker, who goes by the same name, replies.
"We need about thirty minutes to test it."
I shake my head. "No need to test it. I will test it when I go back in time."
Within ten minutes, the trio of heroes is standing behind a blast shield. Will pulls a lever, and the circular purple-tinted field opens up. I give them a thumbs up, then turn towards the gateway. Here goes nothing! I touch the portal, and immediately black out.
I watch in awe as my mentor, Darkfire, slowly disappears. I turn to Gamer. "Do you think it worked?"
Gamer shrugs. "I guess we'll find out when everything changes. I set it up so we would remember everything and keep our powers too."
I wake up in a small room and examine my surroundings. To my left is a dresser and a bookcase. I am laying on a small bed with purple sheets with stars on them. A small window is to my right, and on the wall opposite my bed, there is a door.
I pull off the sheets, stand up, and stretch. I turn to the window and take a glance outside. It is night. There are small wooden houses, with a couple of strange buildings standing out.
I glance down and see two equines galloping down the street. I blink, as I had seen something strange. When I look again, I find my eyes weren't lying! The gray mare with a blond mane had wings, and the brown stallion had a green tie and a top hat! I pull back from the window. That's odd.
I look over the room again, and focus on the bookcase. Until the person who let me sleep here comes in, I guess I'll read a book! I peruse the collection, which mainly had subjects about equines and magic. Okay, that's strange. I decide on a series of books called 'Daring Do'. I open the book and find that it is about a Pegasus adventurer.
As I finish the second book, I hear a knock at the door. A female voice asks, "Are you awake? If so, I brought you some food."
"Yes," I reply. "I'm awake. Come in." The door opens, and I rub my eyes, trying to comprehend what I see. On the other side of the door is a purple Unicorn, using what I assume is magic to levitate a tray with hay, lettuce, and an apple. On the Unicorn's flank is a six-point star."You're a Unicorn! Okay, that's stranger than everything else I've seen!"
The Unicorn immediately starts asking me questions. "Who are you? What are you? Where are you from? What are those things on your-" I hold a hand up, signalling her to stop.
"I'm just as confused as you. Before I answer your questions, I'm starving. Can I eat first?"
One hour later, Twilight (the Unicorn) and I are sitting by a fire. "Okay," I begin, "to answer your first question, I am Darkfire. I am assuming, from your second question, that there are no humans here. I am a human with extra powers. I can actually control shadows." I wap myself in shadows to demonstrate, startling Twilight. "I am also a hero who protects other humans from villains." She nods, so I continue.
"I am from a place called Earth. I lead other heroes in defeating villains. Oh, yeah. The things on my'hoof'- which us humans call hands- are fingers. They are like..." I think of a way to compare them. "Oh, yes! You know your dragon assistant's claws?" she nods. "My fingers are like his claws. Now, I have some questions. Where am I, who lives in this world, and can I speak to the leader of this village?"
Twilight smiles. "Well, you are in the town of Ponyville, in the land of Equestria. Ponies are the dominant species in this country, but there are many other creatures, like Zebras, dragons, and Griffins. And to answer your last question, no, you can't. Mayor Mare is away on official business."
After learning more about this land, Twilight offers to introduce me to a few of her friends. She pulls a strange necklace from her closet. "What's that?" I ask her.
She smiles. "It's a special pendant that allows you to become a different pony. I hope it works for you. Now, put it on!" I put it on, and I turn into a black Pegasus with a red mane and tail. The mark on my rump is a shield with two swords crossed behind it. "Yes!" she says happily. "Now, come on! Let's go introduceyou tomy friends!" We step out of the library, and immediately, pink fills my vision.

"Hello, new pony!" I fall back into the library. Standing in front of me is a pink mare, with goofy hair and balloons on her flank.

Throughout the song, Pinkie pulls instruments out of what I recognize as 'hammerspace'. Twilight's horn lights up, and Pinkie is thrown into the library. She slams the door and motions for me to take off my disguise as she turn to Pinkie. "Pinkie, this is Darkfire. He is not from around here. Another world, actually." I take off the disguise, reverting to my human form.
Pinkie's eyes grow wide. "Omygosh! A human!"
"How-" I begin to say, but Twilight cuts me off.
"Don't question it. Believe me, I've tried." I nod, then we turn to Pinkie. "Pinkie, Darkfire can't let anypony know he is a human yet, or everypony will freak out. We were about to go see Rainbow Dash. Do you want to come?" Pinkie nods, and I put the disguise back on.
We set out towards a cloud house in the distance, and I worry about what Twilight's other friends are like.
We step up to the cloud house. Suddenly, somebody yells "Watch out, girls!" and something rams into me, knocking me to the ground.
"Rainbow!" Twilight says angrily, shoving the pony off my back. "Get off him!" I get up and brush myself off. I look over at the newcomer, who is grinning sheepishly. She is a cyan Pegasus mare with a rainbow mane and tail.
"Sorry, new pony! I wasn't paying attention to where I was going, and didn't see the three of you until it was too late."
"I can see that," I say, giving the Pegasus a bemused look.
Twilgiht walks over to the two of us. "Rainbow Dash, this is Darkfire. He has a secret that only Pinkie and I know about. Can you meet us in the library in thirty minutes?"
'Rainbow Dash' looks at me curiously. "Okay, I'll be there. But it better be a big important secret. I'm training! See you around, new pony!" She takes off, leaving a rainbow trail behind.
Twilight gives an apologetic smile. "Sorry. Rainbow Dash can be kind of, well, reckless."
I grin. "No problem. One of my friends, Zap, used to be like that, until he..." I trail off, thinking about my old teammate who died at the hands of Dr. Light.
Pinkie distracts me from my thoughts. "Let's go get Rarity, Applejack, and Fluttershy!"
What kinds of names are those? I think as we walk towards a carousel off in the distance.

I spin around when I hear the bell. "Welcome to Carousel Boutique, where every garment is chic, unique, and magnifique!" I see Pinkie and Twilight walk in. "Oh, hello girls! What brings you here?" It is then that I see the black Pegasus standing between them. "Who is this?"
Darkfire's POV
"Who is this?" the Unicorn asks the girls. I stand up and walk over to the white unicorn. From what Twilight had told me, she is very poise and proper.
"Milady, I am Darkfire. It is a pleasure to meet you!" I pick up her hoof and kiss it.
Twilight groans then pulls me away from the surprised unicorn using her magic. "Rarity, can you meet us at the library in..." she checks her watch. "27 minutes?" Rarity nods, and Twilight drags me out of the room.
We walk onto the farm, and I see an orange pony run up and kick a tree, making apples fall into a bucket under the tree. She turns and see us. "Howdy ya'll! Who's the new pony?"
I grin. "My name is Darkfire." She walks up and grabs my hoof. She shakes it extremely hard, then lets it go. Even after she lets go, my hand shakes uncontrollably until Twilight stops it.
"Ah'm Applejack, nice ta meet'cha."
Twilight looks over to Applejack. "Applejack, can you meet us at the library in 20 minutes?'
"Shore, Twilight. Let me just finish up mah daily work!"
"Helllo!" I call to the butter-hued Pegasus. She jumps two feet into the air and jumps into a bush. "Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. I'm Darkfire. Twilight sent me to tell you that she wants to meet you in the library as soon as possible." I slowly walk away, not wanting to scare the timid pony.
The 4 ponies stood in front of us, while Twilight explained who I am. When she finished, Rainbow Dash looked at me skeptically. "How do I know he's not lying about who he is? I mean, he does look like a pony." As soon as she finishes, I take off the disguise. "Oh, never mind!" I chuckle at her response
Twilght continues. "Anyways, Spike has already sent a letter to the Princess, and she'll find him a way home. Until then-" Suddenly, a yellow glow appears around my body, and I start to fade.
"What's going on?!" I manage to get out before my head fades away.
