Equestrian Battlefield: A halo crossover
Breakthrough
Previous ChapterTwilight lays on her bunk with a borrowed tac-pad in her hooves, reading in the dim light provided by a handful of candles because the generators producing the electricity are down. The technicians said it would be a few hours and she didn't want to waste any time reading up on the threats to pony kind. The Covenant, the Flood, and quite possibly...
She looks over at Taylor who's in the bunk across from her. The simple thought of he being a threat to her hurt on the inside but in reality she knew it was true. She had experienced the dangers of humans first hand, and barely lived to account for that fact. It worried her that even though they're trying to protect all races on Equis and themselves against such large threats without causing mass destruction may be the one thing that actually gets them all killed in the end. And even if they do use full force what would be left? Ponyville had already been glassed, Canterlot nuked, and who's to say Filly isn't next?
A quiet sigh escaped Twilight as she goes back to reading. It confused her why the Humans and Covenant were fighting if they had a truce, unless one of them violated it. And the Flood were supposedly eradicated but apparently after what happened earlier that day, that was proven to be false. What was next? Is there something else that could possibly come back and reek even more havoc?
Another thing the completely baffled Twilight is why the Covenant weren't being more diligent with their destruction? From what she had read they could've easily taken over this entire planet in a matter of hours, but they haven't. Her question is why. Why... she thought to herself as she scrolls through more data bases for information. Soon she came across a document about the Covenant before the truce. A sudden thought hits her. It clicked.
Twilight jumps up from her cot and bounces onto Taylor's. He gives a smile but Twilight is in partial lecture mode. "Taylor, you know how quickly Covenant can take over a planet, right?" she inquires.
Taylor takes a second to process the question. "Uh.. yeah, why?"
"Why? Why, because we technically shouldn't be here. This whole planet should have been glassed by now!"
"You're point?"
Twilight lets out an exasperated sigh. "Do you know why the Humans and Covenant were in a war to begin with?"
Taylor cocks an eye brow at Twilight. "Yeah, it was some religious war. What about it?"
"Think about it!" she exclaims, hopping of his cot and begins to trot around the room as more marines who are bunking in the same room look at her. "The Covenant worshiped these Forerunner artifacts, they never destroyed them!"
"So..."
Twilight turns to face Taylor. "So, if you think about it, Covenant worshiped Forerunner artifacts, the Flood were held on the Halo rings, which were Forerunner. Don't you get it? The whole reason we're even alive is because of this!"
Taylor slowly put the pieces together as Twilight gave him hints at what she was shooting at. It does make sense. The whole realization hits Taylor like a freight train as his skin goes pale. "You seriously don't me-"
"What if we are? What if this another Flood holding facility like the rings?" Twilight cuts off Taylor but doesn't seem to care. "If we are, that's one more thing on the list of bullshit we have to try and survive!" Twilight shouts at Taylor and everyone in the room just stares at the lavender mare.
"Y'all know what this means right?" one of the marines silently asks, but no one answers. They all know exactly what it meant.
Author's Note
Adding one more chapter to add one more thing to the list of BS they have to endure. Decided to make a short one before getting back to the action. Enjoy~
