Turn Away from the Sun

Sometimes it takes a knife

Shining armor stood in between his sister and the royal hall, the wind whipped her mane back and forth across her face; the face that he had only seen smiling, the occasional tear making a wet cut down her face. Today it was set in anger and her horn aglow in furious light, "Move Shining!"

Shining.., Shining she hadn't referred to him so formally in a long time, "No, I will not let you inside," he didn't know what she was so angry about but he did know if he let her pass that he could only regret it, "your being irrational."

"Irrational," she sneered, "you're blind Shining, as blind as when Chrysalis took control of you! How can you not see what Celestia is doing?" The emotions that Twilight harbored for her teacher were unheard of when regarding the purple unicorn, let alone directed at someone as dear to her as Celestia. He faltered at the mention of his weddings unfortunate beginning allowing Twilight to slip past and dart into the hall. He chased after her but his barding was heavy and she was faster than he had given her credit for. He chased her through the halls matching her turns flawlessly even when she was out of sight; he knew where she was going. He rounded a corner to find a pair of closed double doors that Twilight had locked and sealed with molten wax that had just dried, as it cooled it turned a metallic color and shimmered purple.

A Golem made of sticks and earth appeared. Its composition was quick and sloppy causing it to move with a slight limp and its jaw to bounce when it walked. It was small enough that he could easily dispatch it but it would take precious time he didn't have. He rolled out of the way as the golem tossed an iron candle stand at him, as he got up the golem charged. Shinning put up a glowing shield of energy, the golem crashed into it headlong causing the shield to flicker and sharp pain to grow in the back of the royal guard's mind. He grunted but remained standing before forcing the shield to expand smashing the golem into the pillared wall behind it; the magically reinforced building didn't suffer at all. The same could not be said for the golem who was literally ground to dust; a vase, and several candle posts were also demolished. As Shinning couldn't teleport inside the palace he turns to address the magically locked door. Pressure was his forte, as is displayed by his talent with shields; so naturally he broke the lock creating internal pressure. He found a pocket inside the enchanted candle wax and created a magic barrier, he then pressed outwards forcing the bonds to break and shrapnel to fly before turning back to molten wax that quickly hardened again on the items it touched, including him.

He rushed down the hall, only a few more turns.... he rounded the last corner and froze: inside stood the solar princess with a blade of energy enshrouding her horn that punctured and held Twilight's body suspended. The princess’s face was unreadable and several cuts and burns adorned both her body as well as the limp unicorns, she leaned her head forward and Twilight slid off with a sickening noise. His face contorted in grief and confusion took hold. "W...why," he asked meekly before turning as Rainbow Dash burst through the doors behind him. She skidded to a halt before her face flashed several emotions in quick succession and finally decided on malice. "Burn in Tartarus you Bitch!" Shining acted quickly and snatched Rainbow in a hard telekinetic grip, he didn't know what was going on but was sure that if Dash decided to try and reap revenge on Celestia it could only end up with her dead as well, Rainbow groaned and he let up on his grip realizing his grief and anger were affecting his magic.

"I suggest that you take her friends and leave captain, consider your tour of service over, little prince." Celestia's voice was cold and her eyes bore the will to carry out the threat. The distraught brother turned and saw the mixture of emotion through the friends of his dear sister; Fluttershy had fainted, Pinkie's hair had deflated, Rarity looked afraid, applejack. . . Where was applejack? 'Best to leave and find out later,' He thought to himself, with some coaxing he was able to wake Fluttershy and drag Rainbow to the balcony where he trapped her in a shield and went to grab his sister, she was still warm when he set her on his back, Celestia had gone by now and the others were waiting on the balcony. Her blood stained his white coat and left a trail of crimson tears in his wake as he made his way to the balcony fighting his emotions for control of his body. 'I need to stay strong for the others and nothing will come from confronting her further" A single tear fell as he lined up next to the enraged Rainbow Dash and the others, they grouped closer and a flash took them away.

Luna pressed against her bindings cursing the horn-lock Celestia had managed to place on her as she slept, her wings bound and neck held tight to the wall by a choking metal band. She had seen the signs of her sisters decent into madness, the nights she locked herself in her room with her generals, when asked they waved it off and attributed it to the princesses want to keep her kingdom safe from external threat.

“Foal...External threat, whom could possibly threaten Thee? I was far too rash to trust so early, I knew thy splendor was false, that events such as these would transpire. From the moment I was back I knew Celestia did allow it. Her magic is stronger than mine, there is nary a way I could have fractured her barrier, even with my domain at my disposal.”

She cursed herself and ranted, partly to the three real generals bound similarly across from her, but mostly to herself. The scuff of hooves coming down the cobblestone hall bounced off the walls like the drums of a death march, ‘Tia;' it had to be, 'nopony else projected like her.’ Judging from their facial expressions and straightened backs the generals were similarly anxious. The sun goddess trotted around the corner a bag hanging loosely in her mouth, flanked by the three generals that were currently chained to the wall opposite her, “Changelings, you would ally thyself with those who hath caused us such strain? I thought better of thine sister!” Luna spit through the bars and on Celestia’s gold-clad hooves, she received an uncaring cluck of the tongue from her sister as she opened the bag and displayed the crown meant for Twilight when she passed her final test. Luna’s eyes widened as Celestia snapped it in half and threw it into cell along with a bloody lock of Twi’s mane.

Tears filled Luna’s Eyes and a choked sob racked her body, Twilight had been her first real friend in this new world and the fond memories rushed through her head and ended all too quickly for the lady of the night. Celestia began to speak again, “tonight dear sister I break you,” she turned her attention on the officers who blanched, “as for you three, you will be executed in the morn for all to see.” With that she left with her changeling counterparts.
