RARITY'S CLIENT
BY TheTinCanPlan

It was a warm summer night in the small town of Ponyville. It was quiet, for it was two in the morning. The only noise that pierced the silence was the distant sound of a grasshopper that was chanting its melodies.

As the hours passed, nothing happened. All was well and all was good. At around five a.m. , the welcoming sunlight was starting to come up from behind the mountains, and the light struck the castle of Canterlot, and the golden tops of the rotundas shone with such brilliance.

The beavers and birds and all small creatures came out of their homes, all yawning and stretching after a good night's sleep, welcoming the warmth of the sun. In the far distance you could see the small shadowy silhouettes of pegasi leaving Cloudsdale to start their day.

In the center of Ponyville, the sweet aroma of baked goods such as bread and pies filled the air as some of the bakeries and shops were getting ready for the flood of ponies that were about to bring in the business for the day.

In Rarity's house, Opal was playing and tangling with Rarity's purple mane in an attempt to wake her up. Slowly but surely, Opal had succeeded her goal. “Mmm... wha... AHH!” “Opal just what do you think your doing?”, Rarity demanded. “My mane! My gorgeous luxurious mane, all ruined! My beauty sleep... for nothing!”

Frustrated and irritated, Rarity slowly got up out of her bed and looked in the mirror to better inspect the damage. “Well Opal you just better consider yourself lucky, Hmph!” The damage wasn't too bad and Rarity calmly picked up her brush, and as the purple sparkly glow of her unicorn magic engulfed the brush, she proceeded to brush out her mane. The sunlight coming from the box windows of Rarity's basement shone marvelously through her deep purple mane as she brushed herself, and Rarity was surely a sight to see.

As she finished her mane, she proceeded to curl her long black eyelashes, and as she did this, she reminded herself, “You've got a big day ahead of yourself, Rarity. Mr. Schlack is willing to spend lots of money for the perfect business attire.” Opal, sitting on a nearby cushion, responded with a soft “meow”. “Mr. Schlack is a very important pony from Phillydelphia. He came all the way to Ponyville for my business because of my positive reviews from Photofinish.”
Again, Opal responded with another meow. “Now I know that I don't normally create outfits exclusively for colts, but this will really make me some money.” “And perhaps”, Rarity now sounding even more hopeful, “Mr. Schlack will even recommend me to his colleagues!” “Well, now that I look presentable”, Rarity said to Opal, “I shall go upstairs and wait for my client.”

By now it was seven in the morning and Ponyville was as busy as ever. Merchants were chanting deals like “Buy one get one free!” Derpy Hooves was saying, “Get your muffins while they're toasty!” Ponies were buying goods left and right. Even Zecora was examining some roses for a potion and nopony seemed to have a care in the world.

Rarity was pouring some water on her windowplants when she heard the “chingle ling ling” of the door hitting the ceilingbell. Rarity put down her watering can and ran to the door to see who it was. “Good morning sir”, said Rarity in her cheerful accent to the colt standing in the doorway. In a low and somewhat raspy voice, the kind of voice one would get after years of yelling and barking orders, the colt replied kindly, “Good morning ma'am. Are you the seamstress Rarity?” “Well yes I most certainly am!”, said Rarity, “And I presume you are security for Mr. Schlack?”, Rarity inquired.

The colt was wearing a black suit and had a radio strapped to his side. The shades the colt were wearing made it impossible to see what emotions his eyes might entail.

The colt replied with only a simple, “Yes.” After a few silent moments of the security colt taking quick glances around the room he pulled the radio off his side and whispered some words indistinguishable to Rarity. The colt said to Rarity, “Come with me.”

The colt led Rarity out behind her shop where there was a black carriage with tinted windows. You could hardly see the sun's reflection off of the tinting. The doors opened and out came four more guards, all wearing similar attire to the guard that had spoken to Rarity. The last pony to exit was, of course, Mr. Schlack.

“Ahh, Misses Rarity!”, said Mr. Schlack in his rich French accent, taking Rarity's hoof and kissing it. Rarity let out a little giggle and was starting to blush. “How long I've been waiting to see you. And what an exquisite boutique you have here. Now tell me, where is this suit that you have for me?” Rarity now fully charmed by the fine colt, replied, “Follow me if you would please, good sir.”

Rarity led the Mr. Schlack and his guards into her shop and into her styling room. The room was circular and not all that big. For the most part the room was empty except for a few rolls of cloth and of course the suit. The windows in the room illuminated the suit, displayed on a mannequin that resembled a pony's body. The suit was all black and was embezzled with diamond buttons. The cufflinks were solid pieces of gold and the collar buttons were very large and bright rubies. On the mannequin's head sat a very long stovepipe top hat. Connected to the collar was a thin and short red tie. The tie had diamonds woven into them and the whole thing sparkled in the light.

“Ahh, it is even more marvelous than I could have imagined. A true magnum opus!” “Well I hope you like it. For all the work I put into it, it truly is a masterpiece”, exclaimed Rarity. “Ahh yes I love the suit, but I must be headed back to Phillydelphia now. As for your payment,” began Mr. Schlack, “Perhaps this will do...” Mr. Schlack's guard opened the back of the the carriage and pulled out a heavy brown trunk that had a brass lock on it. Carrying the trunk inside Rarity's shop, guards layed down the trunk, picked up the mannequin, and secured the suit in the back of the carriage. Without saying another word, Mr. Schlack and his guards left Rarity's shop, got in their carriage, and sped off.

Rarity, now alone, went over to the corner of the room where the trunk lied. Using her horn she opened the lock and slowly opened the chest. Rarity's heart exploded when she saw just a sliver of light escape from the trunk. Now fully excited, she opened the whole thing and what a sight it was. Jewels, diamonds, rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and gold bits, all scattered around the trunk. “They’re simply marvelous!!!”, exclaimed Rarity. Even Opal decided to wake from her cat nap to get a glimpse of the treasures. Elated, Rarity started digging through the riches and was happier than ever.
