Through the mirror prologue: Final preparations
??? POV
She ached.
The spell that she had been working on for these last two and half years was finally close to being finished and due to this the mint green unicorn in question was visibly shaking.
Her previous well-kept coat was in tatters; her mane had been thrown about and ruffled in frustration and because of the exertion and concentration of channelling this raw and brand new type of magic through her hoof tips had caused her legs to wobble like just set jelly.
The faint glow of her magic blanketed hands providing the only light in the otherwise dark and dank basement, the solid oak walls having not a speck of rot on them as the fine oak form the Ever-free was built and aged to resist the temptations of time itself, that her roommate and herself only used for storing trivial items and an excess of wine and other beverages, god knows they had to keep a reserve if berry were to visit unlike last time where she “cleared them out” so to speak.
“This is it!” she thought with eager excitement, “I have been working on this for TOO DAMN long and I cannot positively screw up”.
The mirror she was focusing on started to glow her signature lime green.
“Stage 1: create a subtle magical field – CHECK!”
The mirror in question slightly rippled, the once stainless glass bending and flowing at impossible angles, as the desired effect of the spell took hold.
“Stage 2: using advanced magi-dynamics, create a stable portal- CHECK!”
The rippling violently increased then settled down to a stable jiggle as her grand spell finally started to take hold.
“Stage 3: stabilize the portal further by using stamina potions taken earlier- CHECK!”
Upon finer inspection you could see the mirror distort from the image of her body and clothing to another view, the extensive wine rack changing into a glass cabinet of sorts, the dank solid granite floor to a smooth boor wood and finally the small stack of chairs, which in mind now WAS a good idea on her part to move as of the amount of space she needed to channel this untamed magic, into first a desk….
Then a computer…
“Then a Hum-“
The thought stopped short in her mind as she finally observed and marvelled at the being in front of her. Forcing more exertion onto her hoof tips she watched as the image clear up as a wrong signal on one of those new fangled Televisions, that she happened to own one of, would. She slowly started to make out the colour and form of those denim jeans, the worn and torn red zip up hoodie that he was wearing, she could now see it a colt of man as the way its voice was deeper but still full of youth.
“Probably in his mid teens” she mumbled to herself through her gritted teeth as sweat was flowing down her face in great torrents now as she forced her eyes open, and then the thought hit her.
“Sweet goddess it’s a HUMAN, A BUCKING HUMAN!” she was almost jumping for joy but forced herself into restraint as the picture was clearing up piece by piece, smudge by smudge. She was just about to see its face, that foreign and alien face.
This was it.
This was IT!
This WAS IT!
THIS WA-
“LYRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!”
The unicorn now identified snapped her head to the side to call out but the words were caught in her mouth as watched in futility and helplessness as the mirror turned back into its original state. “nonononononononoNONONONONONO-“she looked back in a flash hoping that she could continue the spell, but it was no use as she could only see herself in a reflecting “-BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU”.
“Would you kindly for Celesta’s sake shut your damned muzzle and come up here for dinner, its getting cold and I might have to give it to Vinyl (Luna knows!, that filly can eat!)”.
she was going to be angry, she was going to be furious , Tatarus forbid she was going to go up those stairs and kick her flank, but the prospect of food quelled her anger and urged her on to trudge slowly up this stairs with one single thought in mind.
Bon Bons POV
Lyra had been acting funny for the last few minutes and it was starting to get on her nerves, which were shorted anyways as her current roommate and friend was one of those confounded Umies that she keeps having to hear about every single damn day on the TV, her phone for goddesses sake they are even on her forums and websites with newer and favourite Vlogers were “coming out” as a Umie.
They might as well say they were into some kinky activity’s and she would understand it all.
The thing that got her the most was that as she saw her over tired and nauseas friend leave the dinner table she witnessed the lightest glint of a grin on the side of her muzzle.
Now THAT frightened her but for now she would simply brush it off as another one of her mad schemes to prove that these “humans” from the show she loved so much existed.
Lyras POV
It happened.
It bucking happened. To say that lyra was exited was the understatement of the century, she could finally prove it. All of her theory’s, all of her fascination was about to come to ahead. With one last look at her and bon bon’s basement, she collapsed into her bed. The last two days on absolutely no sleep had finally caught up to her and with images of that faceless human teen siting idly by at his computer, she drifted of into luna’s sacred dream land with nothing but that same single thought from earlier still fresh in her mind.
“They exist. I knew it”
And with that she fell into one of the most satisfying sleeps she could ever wish for.
To be continued…..
