Into the fire
Somewhere in Nevada...
"DRIVE DRIVE DRIVE!!!" A soldier shouted as he fired a shotgun at a nearby zombie. He was fully covered, so the only thing you could see were his brown eyes eyes. They were in a bus that lacked seats.
"I'm driving!" A female yelled back as she stomped on the gas pedal. She was just barely old enough to drink, wore a leather jacket, jeans, and some boots, deciding that you might as well look good if body armor is useless for whatever reason. "Jeez, Jenkins, do you think I can't hear ya? Neill and Johnny are on the roof to pick of zombies that get a bit too close to the party bus"
"Why do they run so fast only if we are in this thing!" Neill shouted as he fired some shots from his Porter's X2 Ray Gun. He had a black hoodie (hood down) with a lightweight kevlar vest overtop, a black baseball cap, black cargo pants, and skateboarder shoes (for grip atop the bus), as well as being the only other person in the group wearing gloves, he has neon green eyes. "And why do they even run? I call zombie bullshit there!" He is also a 16 year old gamer who has survived this long solely by luck.
"Shut up, your going to jinx us!" Johnny said, he was wearing a trench coat, jeans, and hiking boots. He fired some rounds from his sniper rifle, then stood up to get a better view over the edge.
"Get down!" Neill yelled, Johnny turned around to see what he was avoiding, and took a freeway sign to the face.
"No, Johnny!" Neill shouted to the prone form of Johnny, before the smoke-fog made it impossible to see him. "Madison, turn back! We need to get Johnny!"
Up ahead, an old radio tower that had collapsed was blocking the road.
"We can't! Do you know how heavy this damned thing is? It would take forever to stop at thiss speed and- OH SHI-"
The party bus smacked into the tower and flew off the road. Neill was lucky and when he nearly got thrown from the bus, he ended up falling into the open hatch.
The bus came to a stop and was in front of some sort of lab. It looks like the entrance to a bomb shelter, but had a clear 'Lab 115' painted on the door.
They all got out off the bus, and were curious whether to open it or try to find a way back to the main road. A collection of moans behind them answered their question for them. Jenkins opened the door and they all ran in. Jenkins actually closed the door behind him, wondering why he had never thought to do that before.
The group began to wander around to try and find out what the former (going by the bloodstains) occupants were trying to accomplish.
"This looks like it belongs in a resident evil movie... but not a game, not abandoned enough to be in a game." Neill said as he bought a bottle of Who's Who with a real nickel he found. "Citrusy! It changes every time!"
"How could this place be even more abandoned?" Madison asked.
"Papers spread about, rust everywhere, former occupants trying to eat us, dust... you know, what you think of when you think of an abandoned place!" Neill stated as he picked up some papers, "Hey! it appears they have been working on teleportation technology! And it worked!"
The other two walked over to see the papers, and he was right! There was a ton of evidence to support the findings, from written documents to interviews with test subjects. There is also mention of it being a modified version of a design by an 'Edward Richtofen', so that the portals don't need to both be linked via touch, fixing the redundancy of having the teleporter in the first place.
Then they heard a crash, as the zombies beat down the door.
"Well, let's see where this thing can take us! Neill said as he started pressing buttons after taking a brief look at the manual of use. "anybody want to go to the moon? or maybe to a theater? How about.. is that a cartoon?" The zombies made their way to the room. "Fuck it. Get on!"
He pressed a button and everybody saw a bright light.
After they teleported, a voice over the intercom said "unauthorized use of equipment detected. automatic turrets activated. Have a nice day, at least what's left of it."
Turrets started firing upon the zombies.
A grassy field, guess where?
"I'm dead. I'm dead. I killed us all. They are going to kill me for killing them." Neill said. He uncovered his eyes, and saw that he was still alive. "I am not dead!"
"Yeah, but where the hell are we?" Jenkins asked.
"I have no clue, the current setting was a cartoon looking place, and-" Neill immediately shut his mouth.
He was given a death glare by his two friends.
He may have spoken too soon about not dying.
"Wait, is that a mystery box light?" Madison asked, pointing towards a familiar pillar of light.
"And I thought things would be slightly different for five minutes." Jenkins said.
Johnny appeared in a flash as a voice started singing, letting them know the round ended.
"You bastards left me behind!" Johnny yelled at the group.
"I told them to turn around! Didn't you hear me yell 'No, Johnny!' when you fell?" Neill told the newly ressurected Johnny.
"Okay." He noticed the Mystery Box light, "Ooh! I need new gear, let's go!"
The group then began to walk towards the light's point of origin, and saw a town. Neill began looking around, as if he heard something.
"Anybody else hear a high pitched laughter of indeterminate origin?" He asked the group.
The others just looked at him like he has finally lost it. He paid them no heed since they give him that look at least once every day.
