Equestria: A Dragon's Tale
The Horrible Rise to a Great Downfall
You three will be great heroes.
Trust me.
"What could he have meant?" A red figure walked through the green grass clad road talking to himself. The unfamiliar winds of the suburban village plagued the unexpected visitor with suspicion of trouble and danger. "He had to have been mistaken. We can't be heroes. There's only two of us, anyway..." He scanned his surroundings once again, and sighed with frustration and defeat, as there wasn't any clear way back to his regular haven.
A different voice from another mysterious character cried out from the creature's arms. "DA... Da... da..." The sound seemed to have come from a being, asleep in the red creature's arms.
Despite the awkward situation the two were put in at the moment, the one coloured red chuckled to himself. "Heheh... Rest up buddy... you fought well." The dreamers carrier recalled the fight, between his friend and another. "Trust me, buddy... You'll be a great dragon someday. We'll both be."
It was the middle of the night. It was cold and it was raining. The two laid to rest for the night, outside, and next to a small cottage on a hill. They took the roof, and used it for protection from the falling hydration. "Someday, buddy... someday."

"Is he gonna be okay?" A feminine voice spoke.
"I don't know... Hopefully, Fluttershy." Another feminine voice spoke, this time with less grace and tranquility than the last.
The sound caused the red clad character to be shook from his prolonged slumber.
"W-What?" He forcefully rubbed his eyes trying to shake from the grogginess. "Who are you?" He opened his eyes and seemed confused. He looked around fearfully, scanning his surroundings for an answer to his question. "Where am I? Who are you?" He repeated the question that burned in his mind.
The two ponies moved there eyes toward him. "I'm...I'm... So happy you're okay!" The yellow mare jumped and hugged him while she smiled, with her head around his shoulder. "Thank goodness. How are you feeling?"
He didn't try to resist her hug, as, in his mind he thought She IS really cute. Not really my type. The whole "over protective thing isn't for me. But, it's been a while since I got some female attention. I'll go along with it. "I-I think I'm doing fine. My arm kinda hurts."
The winged mare suddenly looked worried and looked in his eyes. "Oh my. I'm sorry. I should've noticed." She massaged his left arm and gave an uplifting light kiss on his shoulder.
Is this mare into me or is she just in heat? He joking said to himself. Though, she was being rather over-affectionate.
"Oh! I know! I'll have to put some cold water on it! That'll do the trick." The pink haired pony began her trot to the kitchen for the water, as she was stopped.
"No." His eyes were wide with detest.
"Nonsense. It's just what you need." She began her trek again.
"No." The sternness in his voice caused her to stop and return to her place.
"Oh, alright. " She lowered her head. "I'm sorry."
The purple coloured mare stared at him with confusion and slight annoyance. "Uh... Fluttershy. Don't you have something to ask you visitor, here." She narrowed her eyes. Is she trying to intimidate me?
"Oh..." The Pegasus blushed and scrunched her nose, embarrassed. "Uh... your tail..."
"Yeah, what about it?" He seemed confused.
"It's uh... On fire." She seemed surprised by not only seeing it, but saying it to confirm it.
"That's..." He thought. Well, time for everyone to freak out. "Supposed to happen."
All four confused eyes, from the mares watching him, were buried into the flame in is tail. "So... What are dragons like you two doing in the outskirts of Ponyville? Don't you have parents that are worried about you? Something like that?" Twilight's stare lessened as she realized he wasn't exactly a threat. Or was he?
"Don't say that..."
"Say what?" She was confused and angered that he would be so bold at to tell her not to speak that way.
"That I'm a dragon... I'm not a dragon yet." He was stern, and intent on delivering his point.
"What do you mean "yet"? You look like a dragon to me."
He snapped back, quick to defend his position. "You don't get it, do you? Being a dragon isn't something earned through appearance, or species even. The title of "dragon" is held by a someone of great bravery, honer, and nobility. I don't deserve that kind of praise." He lowered his head, as if in shame. "I'm not worthy?"
Twilight felt instantly bad for how she had acted, considering how serious he took this. "I'm sorry. I didn't realize how much this meant to you."
He sighed. "You're forgiven." He dragged his eyes over to the pink mare, who was dumbfounded by the talk she just witnessed. "I should apologize for my outburst." He bowed his head.
"You're forgiven." She mimicked. Is this how his people talk to each other?
"Forgive me again." He said. "But, I have to ask. What is your species?" He was genuinely curious, and interested in the answer he sought.
"We're ponies. You didn't know?"
"You thought I was a dragon." He said with a smirk.
"Uh... he has a point." Fluttershy added as her purple companion blushed.
He chuckled, feeling a slight bit comfortable, in his new surroundings. However, the moment was short lived as he sneezed. Fire shot, straight from his nostrils. Uh oh... He thought. Here it comes.
"Wow..." Said the unicorn. "Not even..." She cut off her own sentence, remembering the earlier conversation. Not even Spike can breath fire that powerful, when he tries to. That was only an accident.
Nothing was burned or damaged from the scorch. Spare, maybe the red creature's hope for being accepted around them. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-"
"It's fine. Really." Twilight smiled at him, finely understanding, after he desperately asked for forgiveness. "You may not be a dragon yet, but, I have a feeling your time will come."
He retorted. "I appreciate the kind words. But, the term "dragon" isn't something I'd toss around lightly." He thought back. "Though, you did here my rant from before." He chuckled at his childish, yet maturely heart-filled outburst. "Thank you." He nodded.
"You're welcome." She nodded. somehow these two unlikely acquaintances knew they were going to be friends. "So... Is uh... He your little brother?" She giggled and pointed a hoof towards his friend.
"Not quite. We're actually the same age."
"But he looks so small compared to you." She searched for an explanation, and once her and failure met, she moved on to a second question. "Can he breath fire, like you?"
He chuckled, out of the pure irony. "Quite the opposite really."
Twilight cocked her head and raised an eyebrow. "Umm... Okay." She took a deep breathe, than exhaled, as if it was a metaphor for their situation. "So if we can't call you dragon... What can we call you?"
He smiled.
"Charmeleon."
