Autumn Night
It was strange now that she thought of it, sure she may not be the brightest, fastest, or the most directionally inclined. Yet that didn’t mean she didn’t have common sense, which was telling her to just leave the package and run. Taking a quick dry swallow she took a step towards the door of the manor located on the outskirts of town, and close to one of the many eerie entrances to the Everfree Forest. It all happened a few hours prior, Twilight Sparkle had asked specifically for Ditzy Doo, the most clutzy delivery mare to deliver the package.
Few Hours Before
Ditzy had arrived at Twlights library and home in Ponyville, knocking on the door as her eyes changed positions yet again as Twilight opened the door. “H...hello you asked for me?”
“Yes I did Ditzy, I have a very special package that I would like you to deliver to some one.” Twilight responded as her horn glowed, levitating the package over towards Ditzy.
Ditzy blinked her eyes changing spots yet again. “Um... um, if it’s such an important package, why pick me to deliver it? I’m... uh... I’m not the best at dealing with packages especially important ones.” She looked to the side before muttering “I mean I did drop a piano on you after all, not to mention some other items that one time...”
“Hmm what was that you just said?” Twilight asked not catching the last part
Ditzy snapped back to looking back at Twilight “Nothing!.” before let out a nervous laugh
“Ooookkkaaaay... as for you concerns that’s exactly why I needed to pick you.”
“I’m... I’m not sure I understand.”
“The place I’m sending you... has some intricate complications.”
Once again Ditzy had that confused look on her face “Huh?”
Twilight sighed before going back into her Library looking for a book before coming out. “Well according to legend, this place has a spell cast on it where if you know where you’re going you’ll never find it, but if you don’t know where you’re going or going the wrong way, you’ll always find it or pass by it.”
“So... so you don’t know if this place is real then?” Ditzy asked tilting her head to the side ever so slightly as she decided to sit down.
“Mmm I know it’s real, I mean I think it is...” Twilight said before trailing off before looking back at Ditzy “Say Ditzy when you deliver things or are suppose to go somewhere, do you ever... pass by something unusual when you do?”
“Huh?” Ditzy asked again before thinking about “Oh... Oh yeah! There’s this creepy looking manor close to the Everfree woods on the East...” She paused “Or was it the West... I’m not really sure, but I don’t really like going close to it...”
“I’ve tried to go there myself, but I could never find it, even though I knew the exact location of where it was suppose to be, I always ended up back in front of the main entrance to the Everfree forest.”
“Well what’s so special about the package that... it has to go...” a slight shudder “There?”
Twilight paused again before speaking up “He... hasn’t been able to get out much... like at all, just like most of us are prevented from entering the manor he lives in due to always being misdirected by the spell, he is also unable to... come out.”
“I still don’t think I get it, I mean it’s his place right? So why wouldn’t he be able to come out?”
“Spells can be funny like that, especially dangerous or uncertain ones.” Twilight replied once again before putting the book back from whence she had retrieved it.
“So... does that mean he’s bad then?”
Twilight frowned slightly at that, letting a moment or two go before she decided to respond. “No... no he’s not bad, perhaps a little misguided and lonely... but he’s not evil.”
“Well okay then... If you say so.” Ditzy took the package and was just about to fly off before being stopped briefly one last moment.
“Thank you.” Twilight said, seeing how she was about to fly away. “Oh and one more thing Ditzy... whatever you do, do not, and I mean do not enter into his home if you can help it.”
“Um... okay...” She said before flying off. It had taken a bit of aimless wandering before she found the place and landed.
So now that brought her to the present, as she took slow steps to the door completely unsure whether or not to continue to approach it, after all it wasn’t like she was part of the Elements of Harmony and had someone to back her up. She finally reached the stairs heading up to the door before taking a breath about the knock on the door. Just as she was to knock on the door, it decided to mysteriously open up instead, much like those eerie stories told to scare little fillies. It was so bright inside it wasn’t hard seeing all the bright red inside however besides that she couldn’t really see anything eerie about the place, from what she could see.
Taking another slight gulp she looked around. “Um... um... H... Hello?” Ditzy couldn’t help but find herself stuttering.
It had been so long since he had seen another living creature, oh so long, he had lost track of how much time had gone by... months, years, decades. He didn’t know, and soon he didn’t care, perhaps it was best for him to be left to his solitude he had brought himself to believe. That was until a visitor approached him at his door steps, how very odd, no one was suppose to find this place... were they? After all it wasn’t like a pony normally got lost right? And even so, even if they did, they wouldn’t willingly approach his manor... would they?
He had watched her for a while from the window, it shouldn’t be possible, it wasn’t probable... and yet here she was, with some kind of... package? How very odd, needless to say, when she was about to knock, he had opened the door automatically for her, despite the creek it had in it’s hinges. “Welcome, my dearest Mare, what brings you to my... humble abode?”
A voice welcomed her in what seemed to be an empty red hallway, it sounded much like silken honey... No no that can’t be right, I mean what does silken honey sound like in the first place? And why would I even think of silken honey? Ditzy asked herself before shaking the thought away. Focus Ditzy, now’s not the time to be thinking of such things.
She cleared her throat slightly “Um.. um, I... I... I have a package for you...” She said still nervous and scared.
“Well perhaps you could come in and deliver it to me in person.” The door swung open even farther.
“I.. I don’t think that’s a good idea...” She said hesitantly looking around the inside of the place even more.
“And why not? There isn’t anything evil about this place, take a step inside, and you will see that your fears are misguided.”
“Um... o..okay...” She took a step inside, before taking another. Stupid Ditzy, stupid, stupid Ditzy, Twilight warned you not to do exactly what you’re doing now. She berated herself as she walked further in still looking around, the place was rather pretty after all.
As soon as she was all the way in, the doors swung closed, causing Ditzy to jump and let out a soft “eep” as they did. He decided then to move towards the stairs, to have a better look at her. His first visitor, and such a beautiful one, at least he hoped that was the case, as he rushed perhaps a little faster than he should have.
The first thing that Ditzy noticed, were several statues of various different ponies, much like some of the statues she might have seen in the Canterlot Gardens. Several pictures were placed up upon the walls, of bygone days which she couldn’t make heads or tails of. Everything about the place, screamed warmth and comfort, and even so... why did it unnerve her so. The Statues she came to notice turned their heads every time she walked by... ok that was a little creepy she had admitted to herself before coming face to face with what she assumed was the voice that called her out.
There he stood, his figure wrapped around in shadows despite the place having so much light in, and where a shadow should not rightly exist there his was. His crimson eyes stared directly into hers, hers... they reminded him of the Autumn leaves, such a beautiful color. Perhaps a little off kilter but that didn’t matter to him, a pegasus, oh how joyful, the light of the room shining off her, made her look like his own personal angel.
He composed himself before letting out a slight cough and straightening up. “My Apologies, I am... I am...” He thought about that for a while, he had nearly forgotten his name in his years of solitude before looking at a mantle on the wall. “Jackle... my name... is Jackle.”
“Jackle? That’s a strange name...oops... no offence or anything it’s just that you don’t normally meet ponies with such names. Oh right, if I can just get you to take this package I’ll be on my way...”
“What so soon?” He took the package from her. “I thank you for this.” Manners... yes he still had manners, yes this was good manners are good. “Yes I do admit it is a... bit of a funny name. But please you must be hungry, stay for at least a bite?” He extended his hoof to her, and as soon as it reached the light it turned into the likeness of that of a timberwolf before he quickly took it back.
“Well I don’t know” She backed away slowly when she saw what his hoof turned into. That was until her stomach rumbled. “Well I did miss breakfast... and lunch...” She slumped slowly “And... supper, I.. I suppose it couldn’t hurt...”
“Yes wonderful” His fangs showed as he smiled before he closed his mouth quickly. He clapped his hoofs which sounded like the palm of a hand smacking across bark...
The teeth unnerved Ditzy even more, and the sound of clapping was unlike anything she had heard before, it sent all levels of shivers down her spine. As she let out another nervous laugh... She had been doing that a lot lately. “Well... l... lead the” she gulped “way.”
Jackle snapped back to attention from looking at nothing but her, basking in her beauty, in what only he thought was love at first sight. “Yes... yes of course, this way.” He lead her to the dining area before pausing, and turning back to her. “Before we eat, I was wondering if I may get you to change into some clothes I have... It was...” He was about to say worn by someone he knew long ago before deciding against it. “Acquired many years ago.”
“Um... if... if you insist” Ditzy still kept glancing back at the door she entered with one of her eyes.
“Yes, please it would... mean alot to me.”
“Well..” she thought about it. “Okay...”
“You honor me by doing this service for me... Miss?”
Ditzy quickly looked back at him. “Ditzy... it’s Ditzy.”
Jackle smiled again his teeth changing once again to mostly flat on one end to fangs on only two. Before he made a dress appear in front of her. It had a veil, and white laces at the edges of the dress.
He left to let her change into the dress, as he went to prepare the food. Ditzy once she had changed felt rather awkward just standing around so she decided to sit at the table. When he came out he placed the food on the table before sitting across from her. She looked even more stunning to him now in the dress, and even more he wished to make her his.
“You look wonderful” He said rather pleasantly he found, or at least he thought he had.
“Th... thank you... I think” She said before grabbing for her share of the food and chowing down on it. “So... um... Why are you here alone?”
He paused after swallowing his food at the question she asked. “There was... an accident with a spell one day, and it forever changed me. Soon after the villagers found dead animals... and the cause they found was me... for I had desired a taste for blood...” He paused as he watched her reaction change to even more fear. “No need to worry, I swear I will not harm you.”
Ditzy nodded her head slowly, trusting that Twilight had not sent her to someone... dangerous. “So... so, what brought you here?”
“My friends, my family, and everyone else feared me, and my... bloodlust they called it, and so they chased me out of town until I had found myself here, no longer able to run any longer, I cast a spell that prevented those to find me, the drawback was that I was equally trapped here.”
So this is what Twilight meant by misguided... Ditzy thought to herself as she continued to eat. When she was finished she attempted to sneak away, after all it didn’t mean she had to trust him.
“Where are you going?” He asked suddenly causing her to freeze. “I was hoping you would stay with me... forever, here, just the two of us. Now that I’ve found you, I cannot lose you.”
There had been several times she had tried to sneak to the door she had found, and always found her back at the same place as she slowly began to cry. “Please... please let me go.” She felt like a caged bird.
“I cannot, you are as lonely as I am are you not? Besides I love you too much to let you go. I will offer you everything you could want, you will soon forget about the outside world.”
Obsession that’s what it was Ditzy realized all too late, but it wasn’t like he was bad, the place was nice, she had been given excellent food, and she was now finding herself cowering before him never the less. “I’m not lonely, I have friends, family, a place I really need to go back to.” Tears began to roll down her eyes out of the fear of being forever here, a place she never wished to remain.
He seemed to be rather confused as his figure changed to strange shapes in front of her, before turning back into a pony for the most part as red eyes continued to look at her with sadness, and yet some compassion. “Do you not love me? I had thought...”
“Look” Ditzy snapped softly in slight desperation as well. “I’m sure you mean well, but my heart should fly free. It’s just that... it’s not really love if you were to cage me.” She became a little more desperate “So please... please let me be, and let me go.”
What was that saying again? Jackle thought to himself If you love someone let them go, if they return they were always yours, if they don’t they never were. Yes that was it, and it would be cruel of him to keep her here just for his sake. “Yes... yes you’re right, it would be rather awful of me to keep you here against your will. I will walk you to the door.” He went to the door opening it for her.
Ditzy followed him slowly as the door opened in front of her. She looked at him one last time. “Thank you... for letting me go.” Before flying off
When she had flown off he looked back at her package, deciding to open it revealing a book inside with something he could never complete. “I wonder...”
A Week Later
Ditzy was walking with Carrot Top before she paused looking around.
Carrot Top looked at her inquisitively “Is something wrong?”
“Hmmm?” Ditzy looked back at her, before looking back around, before looking back at her. “No.. nothings wrong, it’s just that... it almost felt as if someone was watching me.” Ditzy couldn’t see anyone so she shook it off “I must have been imagining it.”
Far off within the shadows Jackle watched her. He would not bring her into his cursed life, but happiness, and protection, he could at least ensure she had those. “Take care my sweetest angel” He whispered into the wind before simply disappearing into the shadows, as the leaves gently blew past, before he was finally gone.
Author's Note
So there you have it, my first mlp fic featuring Ditzy/Derpy none the less, as to why she's named Ditzy is because that's how the song names her so I went with that. This will not be my only fic but it's going to be my only "Pony" fic, by which I mean the rest will deal with them as humans to say the least. This is of course if I'm not begged and prodded to do something else and what not.
So yeah tell me what you think, rate and review, I took Ditzys personality from PierceSmoulders Ditzy from the Doctor Whooves and Assistant series, since well that's the only derpy I really know. Or if you want to be Technical BaldDumboRat in either case that was the Ditzy/Derpy I took. And of course Thanks to Psychgoth who said roughly to go for it, of which I shall be sharing with him *fluttershy voice* yaaay. I also took the quote from Derpy in the song as you'll come to find
I personally really don't know if I was able to pull it off and give the song justice by this but you know... here's hoping. Last but not least, do not forget that this is based off of a song, done of the MLP universe.
I got the name Jackle surprisingly enough not from "Jackle App" but instead Dr. Jackle Mr Hyde, that's at least what came to me and thus you have..
