It is a small room, mostly empty except for a couch, chair and a desk with the nameplate of ‘Dr. Philie. The door opens and a tall orange colored red maned earth pony wearing a dark suit enters and sits at the desk at the far side of the room, then carefully places a pair of glasses to his eyes balancing then on his muzzle. The doctor sifts through a stack of papers on his desk with his hooves until he comes across one with the days date on it and thoroughly looks it over occasionally glancing at the clock above his door. When he is finished reading he slowly nods to himself , takes off his glasses, folds them places them on his desk and waits for several minutes until there is a knock at his door. “Come in.” the door slowly opens
revealing a surprisingly nervous Rainbow Dash “oh, miss Rainbow Dash, do come in, and take a seat.” He then motions his head to the couch. Rainbow comes in and awkwardly sits on the couch. “It’s ok Rainbow; I’m here to listen, not to judge, what’s on your mind?”
Rainbow lets out a deep sigh, “there’s this, dream, and I’m not sure what it means, but every time I try to figure it out, I just feel, so wrong.”
“Wrong how?”
“It makes me feel empty inside like something’s missing. As if I never lived up to my parent’s expectations and now that they are gone, no matter what I do I can’t bring them back and make them happy.” She then resituates herself on the couch feeling slightly more comfortable talking but still as depressed as ever.
“Can you tell me more about this dream? If you think you can.” the doctor asks then picking up a pencil with his mouth and making several marks on a piece of paper as she speaks.
“I-I think I can…” she closes her eyes to recall the vivid memory of the dream she had just a night before and also several other times in the past. “in the dream im just a filly living with my parents back up in Cloudsdale, and they tell me how proud they are of me for getting my cutiemark and making a sonic rainboom, but just a couple minutes later in the dream, I’m older, like I am now, and they get upset with me for no reason, telling me how disappointed they are in me, that I didn't turn out like they wanted me to. Then they would just fall dead at my feet and I somehow found myself at their graves, crying because I could never be the little Dashie they wanted me to be.” She slowly opens her eyes and looks up to the doctor with a tear in her eye.
“What else could your parents of wanted from you,You are already the fastest flyer in all of Equestria?” He questions, taking serious interest in what she is saying.
Rainbow stands and begins walking around the room. The doctor, who is about to ask here to sit back down gets interrupted by her speech. “When I was born my parents named me ‘Rainbow Dash’, as if they expected me to fast from the very beginning, then my cutiemark confirmed it. They were so happy for me, right when they saw it they started training me to be the very best flyer in Cloudsdale and that is was their dream to see me fly with the wounderbolts. Of course that takes years and years of training, and a weekend of training with my parents weren't gonna cut it. I joined the Ponyville weather patrol to practice more. But when I did I think they thought I gave up on them, and now I can’t ever make them happy.”
“Rainbow, I understand, but I have a story to tell you. Please sit.” Rainbow goes back to the couch siting in a relaxed fashion. “My parents wanted a filly, the last thing they wanted was a colt that liked talking about his feelings, I even heard them say it once. When I was still young they got rid of me and sent me to live with foster parents, but not before they named me ‘Philie’. It was like a little joke to them, but it meant being called names and getting picked on all through school for me. I can’t go back and give my parents the experience of me being born a filly, but you still have the opportunity to have their dreams come true even if they’re not there to experience it.”
“I know I can still do what they wanted me to do but maybe that’s not what I was MEANT to do. My parents got me into racing when I was so young I was never really sure that’s what I wanted to do.”
“But you still do want to join the wounderbolts?
“Of Corse I do, but who wouldn't if they had the chance… I’m just second guessing everything now…”
“Rainbow, it’s your cutiemark, it’s your destiny. Mine’s a thought bubble, and I knew right that second it was my calling to help ponies just like you.”
“Your right doctor.” rainbow admits. “I think I know what I have to do.” She says coming to a stand.
“Good rainbow dash, I hope you make the right choice.”
Rainbow walks towards the door pushing it open with a hoof, takes a deep breath and walks out.
The doctor’s day continues as if rainbow dash had never entered it. He takes the paper he had been righting on and places it in Rainbow Dash’s folder…
After leaving the doctors rainbow continued walking until she was out of town and at the cemetery where her parents were buried. After several minutes of searching she finds her parents headstones among the others and lies down next to them. “Mom, dad, I won’t let you down, I’m going to make you proud."
