With a dead pony looking strangely like an older version of himself appearing in his living room, Starswirl discovers a journal containing fantastic spells and ideas, the likes of which a primitive Equestria has never seen. Chief among these is a revised time spell, allowing a pony to travel through both time and space with no time limit flaws. Never one to withhold curiosity, Starswirl sets out bounding across now, then, possibly, and everywhere in between.
