“Beware of him that is slow to anger; for when it is long coming, it is the stronger when it comes, and the longer kept. Abused patience turns to fury.”
Francis Quarle
“Good morning mom, what do you have today?” Marcus Greyer asked walking on his mother putting away the dishes.
His mother (Michele Greyer) placed the last dish away from the dishwasher.
“I was planning to have your father’s anniversary of his death today after you get home from work. I can’t believe it that it’s been three years since what happened…” Michele trailed off into her memories.
Marcus vision turned away from his mother grew instantly sad. Three years since his father saved him from the hellhole that Marcus was trapped, three years that his father became a sacrifice for both of them to get away.
Marcus shook his head to get those negative thoughts out of head, knowing that his father would be upset about feeling sad every time we thought of him.
“Mom… I know that I can’t bring him back, but I know that he wouldn’t want us to mourn over his loss, I would think he wanted us to be happy and keep his memory alive within us.” Marcus looked back to the tiles of the kitchen.
Beep Beep Beep
Marcus pulled out his Iphone out of his back pocket and noticed that the alarm for work was going off and knew it was time to go.
Before walking out of the door, he said to his mom.
"I'll be out late tonight since Megan is out sick again." Marcus said as he was about to walk out of the door.
"I'm jogging to work today mom, I have work till 10pm tonight. Don't worry about cooking food tonight; I'll get something at work, I love you.” Marcus said, as he couldn't wait any longer.
Marcus slightly jogged down the streets in San Juan Capistrano, California. As Marcus was jogging down the street, he saw familiar types of people he often sees normally: A few homeless people, drivers that often come to a close chance of causing an accident, the usual.
As he stopped at the front store of Walgreens he grabbed his Iphone from his back pocket to check on the time: '9:50 am. Jeez ten minutes faster than usual, I must be getting faster.' thought Marcus.
As Marcus placed his phone back in his pocket, he walked through the double doors at Walgreens.
Ding!
He scanned through the cashiers that are working for the day and saw some of them giving him a 'Get lost' look. 'I just love how much I'm loved here.' he thought in a sarcastic tone to himself. Walking through the beverage section, Marcus grabbed a Powerade and made a bee-line to the locker room to change and start his shift.
'Ah well, it can't get worse than this I suppose.'
"Sir! We have followed the target to his current occupation!" exclaimed the grunt.
"Good. Have our agent follow him and knock him out. We need to do this as calm as possible so we won't scare any civilians. After we obtained the target, we will head to Washington and give the President what he wants."
Explained the Commander, his aged, scarred up face scaring the soldiers back into place.
"Sir, yes sir!" The grunt saluted and went back to monitor the line, in case the target calls anyone during work.
"Marcus Greyer. You may not know this but you are the Country's most wanted person due to your...talents."
As Marcus was walking to Pizza Hut for a quick lunch, his phone started to ring. He pulled his phone out of the back pocket and saw it was his mother. Hoping that his mother won’t be sad anymore, he answered the phone call.
“Hi Marcus, how is work going along?” His mother asked.
“Hey mom, work is normal. Customers and workers alike, are you feeling better than this morning…?” Marcus was hesitant to ask.
“… Yeah. I’m doing better, sorry to make you worried. Just with what happened with your father still taking a toll on me… It’s been hard, but what you said made me realize that your right, so I decided to have an anniversary of what your father gave to me, brining you back so I can watch you grow up. I’m going out to grab a cake and we’ll have a big dinner for tonight.” His mom said.
Marcus smiled from hearing this. The burden what had happened with his father is now coming undone now that his mother is opening up and accepting what had happened.
“I would love that mom. I would really enjoy that with you.” Marcus said with a true smile.
“I better get everything together for tonight. I love you Marcus.” Michele said.
“I love you too mom.” Marcus also said.
When his mother hung the phone, he placed his phone into his pocket and continued walking to Pizza Hut, but now he’s walking with a smile and the mood that no one could kill.
‘Everything seems to be getting better after all.’ Marcus thought as he walked.
'10:30 pm' Marcus's phone was brightly showed as he was about to leave Walgreens.
'Another day under the flame of a so annoying boss… Hopefully I can get enough cash out of this place to go somewhere up north maybe Portland in Oregon...I better get paid extra for closing damn it.' as Marcus was thoughtlessly thinking to himself.
"Hey Marcus, wait up for a second!" Marcus heard as he was about to walk home.
He turned around to see Paige. Paige was one of the newer cashiers that started up last summer. She was about 5'11. He knew this since he was 6'7 and could roughly guess from there. She had a long hair ending at her end of her backside, with purple extensions tangled in. She seemed the average weight for a girl and height too.
Sadly Marcus thought to himself:
'Aw man... how many times do I have to tell her that I don't want to date her?
During the time of working together, Paige supposedly 'fell in love' with him. After telling her several times that he didn't want a relationship with someone from work, thankfully she finally gave up.
'...I think I know why the cashiers are giving me that stare whenever I walk in...Ah crap.'
"So Marcus did you have long day of work today? I bet I did!"
"Yeah... The boss was down my throat today but it wasn't that bad." Marcus said drily.
"That stinks! Hey Marcus, do you need a ride home? It's pretty dark right now to think about walking it."
'Ugh damn it Megan, getting me dragged into this in the end...'
"I suppose I cou-" That was the last thing Marcus said as he was tugged by Jill.
"Then what are you waiting for? Come on!"
'Damn it all to hell...'
"Sir, target has now started moving with our agent! Our agents have also taken the house and now are at stand by for the target sir!"
"Good. Have Red, Green, and Blue informed about the movement of the target. Make sure they do not let him get away!” yelled the Commander.
"Sir, yes Sir!"
"Thanks for dropping me off Paige. Have a safe drive home!" Marcus watched as Paige drove off out of sight.
'She's not that bad. I would date I suppose of the situation was better.'
Marcus thought as he went to the door way to his house.
Marcus noticed that the house lights were on. He quickly checked the time on his Iphone.
10:56pm
Marcus pulled out his keys and unlocked the door and walked in. While shutting the door, he shouted
“Mom, I’m home! Sorry for coming home late, the manager wanted me t-.” Marcus stopped his sentence short as he saw five armed strangers in the house with his mom tied to a chair with her ear was slit off. He saw blood was running from where the ear used to be and she was weeping in pain silently.
“MOM.” Marcus shouted and was running towards her till the armed strangers pointed their guns at him.
“Ah ah ah, you shouldn’t do that Marcus Greyer, if you did that, we would have to kill your mother here and I don’t think you want that do we?”
As the stranger was talking, he was running a knife slowly in front of Michele’s neck. This cause her to flinch back to stay away from it as far as possible.
Marcus was growing in anger of the mistreatment was given to his mother. The more he grew angered, the more his hands started to glow a bright orange, as if he was holding two miniature suns in each hand.
The stranger noticed this, he said
“Put those away if you want to kill your mother, I only harmed her because she wasn’t being ‘cooperative’.
Marcus focused on his powers to have them powered down.
“That’s much better. Now, let’s come to an agreement of a sorts shall we? The government wants you for your talents and I am here to retrieve what they wanted, they didn’t say anything your mother here…If you come with us quietly, we will leave her be left here.”
Marcus was up against the wall with this situation. He would do anything to stay away from the government and what they did to him from last time when they captured him, but they have his mother, his only parent left alive, if he lets his mother die, he wouldn’t forgive himself.
“GET AWAY MARCUS. LEAVE ME BEHIND.” Michele suddenly yelled out.
“Quiet you bitch.” The stranger smacked her with the back of the head with his rifle.
The stranger turned back to Marcus, who would snap his neck if he had the chance.
“It’s simple: Come with us, and your mom will be let loose, if you refuse to come with us… I will kill her. It’s that simple, now choose.”
Marcus’s mind is now rushing for what he could do, he looked at his mother and when he looked at her, she locked eyes with him and mouthed
“I love you Marcus.”
The stranger sighed and placed his rifle to Michele’s head.
“You picked too late, she dies.”
“Wait don-“Marcus shouted at the top of his lungs as he watched the stranger pulled the trigger.
Michele’s head now hung with a blood splatter in front of Marcus. Marcus lost strength in his legs and fell onto his knees, looking first at the blood splatter then moving his head upward to his now deceased mother.
“Okay men, prepare him for containment. We leave in five.”
As the soldiers handcuffed Marcus behind his back, thoughts were of anger start running around Marcus’s head.
‘These bastards first took my father from me, now they took my mother. They think I’m going to roll over and get myself captured again?! I will show them a…inferno hell.’
While being dragged towards the front door, small flames start to swirl out of Marcus’s feet, covering his shoes with heat at first giving fireplace warmth.
Then the flames shoot up to his lower limbs, which caught the soldiers’ attention.
They immediately dropped him onto the ground, stepped back, and aimed with their rifles with their target in their cross-hair.
Slowly standing in his place, his face expressed about what the anger and pain that he was storing. Marcus was slowly anger rose, but as he thought of what had happened to his parents, his anger came to its boiling point. Marcus suddenly ignited into flames as anger swept over his whole body. He broke the bonds that restrained him and yelled from atop of his lungs could muster.
”rraAAAHH!”
