Chapter 9: Sweet Apple Acres

8:30am.
Ponyville.
The sun was shining, the birds were singing. Everypony was out in the town, enjoying the fresh morning air. Today seemed like any other day for them. Nothing out of the ordinary had happened in Ponyville since that strange meteorite landed a few days ago. Nopony had any idea what that was about, and didn't seem to mind much as well. It wasn't worth venturing into the Everfree Forest to find out.
Cheerilee especially loved mornings in Ponyville. She loved experiencing the 'awakening' of the town. As always, Cheerilee headed over to Sugercube Corner for breakfast. She always enjoyed a 'sprinkled delight' before teaching her class every morning. Just as Cheerilee was about to enter, she remembered that she needed to pick up a series of books for her class this week. With that thought, she decided to head on over to Twilight's library instead. That way, she thought to herself, she could pick up her books AND also hopefully grab a nice book to read while eating her breakfast.
The beautiful and busy atmosphere of the town was too captivating for Cheerilee, not realising a very large purple creature standing outside the library. She finally bumped into what she thought to be the owner of the library. She fell to the ground and felt a little dazed.
"Oh I'm terribly sorry Twilight! I wasn't looking where I was going because I was too distracted by the beautiful atmosphere of the town. Actually, I'm glad I bumped into Twilight. Literally! Because I was hoping to -" As Cheerilee raised her head towards who she thought to be Twilight Sparkle, she saw a very large and intimidating creature, standing on two legs and staring directly at her. Cheerilee simply did what anypony would of done in her situation.
Cheerilee's scream was heard throughout the entire town. Everypony ran to the source of the scream, wondering what was going on. Shortly afterwards, Ponyville was in complete chaos. Ponies were screaming and running, trying to get to their homes. It was a very similar experience to when Zecora would visit the town years ago. In a matter of seconds, all the doors were locked, and not a pony was seen in sight.
Twilight had absolutely no idea what had just occured. She stepped out of the library and stood beside Mewtwo.
"Ah, isn't this a beautiful morning?" Twilight said, gazing up towards the clear sunny sky.
Mewtwo had not moved. His expression unchanged. Twilight's eyes then studied the town, and much to her surprise, nopony was out and about.
"Huh, that's strange! I was sure that I could hear ponies out here. Where have they all gone?" Her eyes then turned to Mewtwo. "You already met them... didn't you." Twilight said in a very unsurprised manner.
"Yes."
Once again, Mewtwo's figure had not changed. His emotions were bland, his eyes straight, and his posture unmoved. This gave Twilight a confusing look.
"It's like talking to a brick wall..."
"Well then, I guess if everypony won't come to you, we must go to them!" Twilight said happily. And with that said, Twilight started walking in the direction of the town square. Mewtwo slowly followed.
"Are you sure this is such a good idea?" Mewtwo asked coldly, "It seems that my presence here is exactly how I imagined."
Twilight shook her head and looked back at Mewtwo, "Oh don't worry, they'll lighten up. Besides, I have a plan. Come on, let's go and see how Applejack is doing out on the farm..."
9:00am.
Sweet Apple Acres.
Applejack never felt so alive when she bucked for apples. The sun would shine, the apples would glisten, and the fresh air was unbelievable. Plus it kept her fit too!
"This has ta be the best job ever!" Applejack thought.
With each kick, came a bucket full of the reddest apples you could ever lay your eyes on.
"Hey Sis!"
A loud voice could be heard coming from over the hill. Applejack sighed deeply.
"Oh, what does she want now!? Ah already told her that she couldn't go fishin' down at Froggy Bottom Bog."
Apple Bloom could now be seen running down the hill towards Applejack. She sighed, and stopped what she what was troubleing her little sister.
"Hey Sis! Ah was just wondering, if ah could -"
"Let me guess, ya wanna go pickin' flowers in the Everfree Forest?" Applejack asked sarcastically, totally unsurprised if her little sister actually would say yes.
"Ummm, actually, ah just wanted to see if ah could buck some apples with ya!" Apple Bloom beamed.
Applejack was a little surprised. Apple Bloom hadn't really been interested in helping out around the farm. She was too busy climbing mountains and braving scorching deserts; going to all limits to find her destiny and be rewarded with a cutie mark. Although Applejack did have a little problem with other ponies helping her with her chores, she was happy to see that her little sister was eager to help out.
"Ok sure! But ya do realise it ain't easy. Ya don't start bucking apples like Big McIntosh does in one day. Ya gotta work at it hard for quite some time..." Applejack assured her little sister.
"Yeah yeah, don't worry! It looks easy! Ah could buck a hundred of these trees in seconds!" Apple Bloom said confidently.
Applejack smirked, "Alrighty superpony, start with those smaller trees over yonder." Apple Bloom giggled excitedly and started running towards the trees that her sister pointed.
"AND DON'T STRAIN YOURSELF!"
As Applejack was about to continue bucking, she heard another voice coming from over the hill. It was Twilight. Applejack sighed once more.
"Oh ponyfeathers. If Twilight volunteers ta help, then so help me -"
Before Applejack could continue with her thought, she spotted the very large creature that had once almost tried to kill her and her friends, walking very slowly behind Twilight. Applejack was afraid, and shuddered by the meer sight of him. She knew of Twilight's plan to help Mewtwo 'fit in' with society, and was willing to help and see if this could actually work.
"Hey Applejack! Need a hand?" Twilight asked happily. Mewtwo stood very tall behind her, like some kind of henchpony. Applejack looked up towards Mewtwo. His intimidating appearance and silent stare made Applejack very nervous. She swallowed up her pride, and managed to find the words to speak.
"Uhh, n-no thanks T-Twilight! Everythin' is f-fine here at Sweet Apple Acres! Hehe..." Applejack trailed off. She had put on the biggest smile possible, obviously trying not to offend Twilight's 'guest'.
"Oh Applejack, you don't have to worry about him! He is here to help out as well! Aren't you Mewtwo?" Twilight asked, giving Mewtwo a very happy look. Mewtwo looked down at Twilight, then back up towards Applejack.
"I am here simply repay my actions for nearly destroying your entire town, and quite possibly your farm as well as the entire-"
Mewtwo was cut off as Twilight cleared her throat and stomped very hard on Mewtwo's foot. It had no effect on him whatsoever. Unamused, he turned his head towards Twilight very quickly. Her appearance was very serious. She wanted her plan to work, but in order for it to work, she knew that Mewtwo had to be more positive towards everypony and not scare them off with his past and actions.
"WHAT Mewtwo was trying to say, is that we are both here incase you need a helping hoof!" Twilight assured firmly.
This was the last thing Applejack wanted. As much as she wanted Mewtwo to actually fit in, she didn't want to take the risk of having him around Sweet Apple Acres. What happened at Fluttershy's cottage and on top of the dragon mountain was spinning in Applejack's mind. She couldn't afford losing the farm.
"Uhhh, no thanks Twilight. Ah think ah can handle everythin' here fer now! Besides, ah got Apple Bloom ta help me out! We've nearly finished anyway." Applejack stated calmly. Twilight looked behind her and saw A LOT of trees with shining red delicious apples filled in them. It would take all morning for Applejack to finish bucking these trees.
"Oh. Well... okay, if you say so..." Twilight sighed and turned back towards Mewtwo, "Come on Mewtwo, let's head back into town."
As Twilight turned and headed back in the direction of town, Mewtwo stood perfectly still. He observed all the trees filled with all the apples waiting to be bucked. Applejack was waiting for him to leave with Twilight. She was now quite some distance away.
"Uhhh, M-Mewtwo? Are... you alright?" Applejack asked nervously.
Mewtwo suddenly began to shade blue. Oh no. This was not good. Applejack knew what was coming. This is exactly what happened just before Mewtwo almost destroyed Fluttershy's cottage. She did not want this to happen here.
"TWILIGHT!" Applejack screamed. Twilight turned her head back to see Mewtwo preparing for what they both thought to be the worst. As soon as Twilight saw what was about to happen, she began to run back to where Mewtwo was standing as fast as she could.
"MEWTWO! Stop! What are you doing!?"
As Twilight ran, Applejack pleaded with Mewtwo, "Please! Stop! Don't destroy what we have here! We've done nothin' wrong!"
But Mewtwo only began to shade bluer and bluer. Applejack knew she couldn't stop him, but she was not going to run away and leave her farm to be destroyed. Applejack stood and closed her eyes as she prepared for the worst to happen. Twilight was not going to make it in time...
It seemed like forever when Applejack closed her eyes. She opened them slowly to suddenly see empty buckets beginning to fly around and lie down underneath the filled apple trees. On their own. Without nopony to put them there. The buckets were levitating! Applejack didn't know what was happening. Only unicorns had the power to use levitational magic. But there were no unicorns around! Of course Twilight was there, but she was too far away to do anything! The only possible explanation was...
Mewtwo.
Mewtwo's arm was raised as many more buckets began to fly and lower themselves underneath the apple trees. His eyes were completely blue. Every apple on every tree began to shake from side to side, bearing the same blueish colour that Mewtwo was. And all at once, every single apple from every single tree fell from above and into the empty buckets. Applejack's jaw dropped straight to the ground.
Rainbow Dash may clear the skies in ten seconds flat, but Mewtwo can buck apples in less than five.
Mewtwo then turned back to normal and lowered his arm. Twilight had just arrived to see every tree in the orchard empty, and all the apples neatly placed in many different buckets. Twilight knew what had just happened. She grinned brightly and turned to Applejack.
"Well then, I guess that you don't need our help after all!"
Twilight smirked and once again turned back and headed towards Ponyville. "Come on Mewtwo, next stop: Carousel Boutique!"
Mewtwo's expression and position had not changed. He gave a very small nod in respect to Applejack, and turned to follow Twilight back to Ponyville.
As Twilight and Mewtwo were unseen from pony sight, Apple Bloom had just arrived on the scene.
"Hey Sis! What in the hay just happened!? I was buckin' fer apples all fine, then all of a sudden a bucket comes out of nowhere, knocks me outta the way and the apples just fall into it as if by magic!"
...
"... uh, Applejack?"
Apple Bloom did not realize that her big sister's mouth was still completely lowered to the ground.
