Trixie was mad at Twilight Sparkle.
But this wasn't the usual anger she felt towards the lavender unicorn, who was smarter and better skilled than her, it was something else. A deep rage that engulfed Trixie, made her scream out Twilight's name in disgust and desperation, types of rage previously unknown to the amateur magician.
Before, any resentment towards Twilight Sparkle were purely jealousy and envy of Twilight's magical ability. This was different.
Trixie opened the door to her hut on the edge of the Everfree forest, tossing her hat and cape somewhere in the general direction of her small kitchen, with such force that she was rewarded with the sound of various cups falling sideways or dropping onto the floor.
"How dare she humiliate The Great and Powerful Trixie!" Trixie ranted. "She thinks she is better than Trixie. She thinks she can just come along and ruin everything I worked hard for!" Trixie dropped the 'Great and Powerful' act. No pony was around to hear her, she was completely alone.
A weaker pony would have burst into tears, and although Trixie hated to admit it, She was that weaker pony.
"Oh Twilight!" Trixie cried, burying her face into her pillow. "Why did you have to ruin..." Trixie stopped to let out a loud sob. "... everything!?"
"Why *sob* you stupid, stupid pony! Stupid *sob* horrible *sniff* wonderful, beautiful, pony!.."
"Why did you make me fall in love with you?"
And for the first time ever, Trixie felt completely alone.

"Did you hear? Trixie's back in town!"
"I didn't think she'd come back here after what happened last time."
"If it hadn't been for her, showing off, Ponyville wouldn't have been attacked by that Ursa Minor."
The whispers of the local ponies sounded as loud and clear as could be, Trixie not even flinching as she walked down the street to the market. Ponies who once watched in awe at her talent now whispered about her behind her back. Their cold stares confirmed her suspicions that these ponies blamed her, of all ponies, for causing the attack.
She wouldn't have stepped hoof in this town unless she was desperate, and she was desperate. Words spread like wildfire among the small Equestrian villages near Ponyville, and now everypony knew about what happened. No pony came to her shows, they mocked Trixie. She had trouble finding work, her pride didn't help, she had been fired from every single job she'd had since the incident in Ponyville, in less than 2 days.
Yes, The Great and Powerful Trixie, was desperate. So desperate in fact, that she blindly walked into every shop, restaurant, and hair salon with a 'HELP WANTED' sign, only to be turned away.
And so the whispers grew louder, or at least in Trixie's ears they did. In reality it the sun was just dipping below the horizon, everypony had gone to their nice warm homes, when Trixie didn't even have a place to sleep.
Finally in her search for a job she came across one last 'HELP WANTED' sign. She knew the same answer lied behind this door, but she might as well try, even thought Trixie didn't think she could handle another stinging rejection.
Solemnly, Trixie used her magic to knock on the door, that was all her magic was good for now anyway.
As the door opened, Trixie calmly said "I've come about th-" only to stop when she saw who was at the door.
It was a small purple and green dragon. He wore a fluffy dressing gown and looked like he had been getting ready for bed. Unsurprising really, as it was starting to get very dark outside.
Trixie knew this dragon. She had seen him somewhere before. She shook off her mistrust of dragons as he said something, and followed him inside.
Morning broke over the Everfree forest. the golden rays of sunlight pushed their way through the dense leaves of the tall trees, and a soft breeze pushed it's way into the hut. The light stung Trixie's sore eyes as she turned to face the window, hoping that Princess Celestia's sun would burn her up so she wouldn't have to feel this way. Nothing happened.
Hugging her pillow, The Weak and Feeble Trixie used her magic to close the curtains. Unfortunately for her, the curtains she had found to cover the windows in her makeshift house were made of clear plastic, so the only thing Trixie achieved was stopping the breeze from coming through her window.
"Who even makes clear plastic curtains?!" The frustrated magician ranted before pulling the curtains off their hooks.
Trixie walked into her 'kitchen'. She levitated the broken shards of glass with her bright blue magic and dropped them in a small bin.
Trixie put on her hat and her cape and walked out of the door.

"The Great and Powerful Trixie does not need your pity, Twilight Sparkle." The blue unicorn said. "She will find a job elsewhere." Trixie said as she turned to leave. Trixie would not work for Twilight, of all ponies.
"You have nowhere else to go." Twilight stated calmly. Trixie stopped, Twilight may have been an infuriating pony to be around, but she was right. Trixie had nowhere to go, and it was starting to rain.
Trixie begrudgingly accepted Twilight's offer. Trixie would work here in the library with Spike, giving Twilight a couple of hours to spend with her friends or to practice a new spell, and instead of being paid for her work, Trixie would live in the library and get free food.
"You can also read any of the books, you know. Like classic literature, or romance novels, or spell books..." Twilight explained as they walked past every individual bookcase, Twilight would point out what kind of book each bookcase contained, and Spike would walk next to Trixie, telling her what was in each bookcase in a way she would actually understand.
Suddenly the lavender unicorn stopped by a door. "And this is your room." she said with a smile on her face. Trixie could have sworn that this door wasn't here a minute ago, but Trixie never had an eye for detail so she probably hadn't noticed the door the first time around.
As Trixie looked inside the guestroom, Twilight quickly looked in a book she had been secretly levitating the whole time. Spike looked at the title. 'Pinkie Pie's Guide to being the Perfect Sleepover host.
While Trixie living in the library wasn't the same thing as a sleepover, Twilight felt that most of the rules and ideas were pretty much the same.
"Well I'll just leave you to unpack." Twilight said before trotting away. Spike just stood there until Trixie closed the door on him. Dragons are strange creatures indeed Trixie thought to her self as she unpacked.
