Haylo: Equestria
Should I say, I told you so?
Previous ChapterI have no idea where we were. It was a shore, like any other shore, except there was a giant rocket launch station surrounding what was left of this once beautiful and crowded beach. I remember I used to visit here every summer and spring break, when I was still just a little filly. I would ask my brother, Shining Armour, to bury me under the sand. One day he did so, left, and never came back. He had just turned 6 years old. A couple minutes more, something dug me up. It was like a robot, with a helmet, and futuristic armor. Even its tail was covered in metal. When it picked me up, it seemed like it wasn't even touching me, like it had an invisible field surrounding it. That was the first spartan.
The falcon touched down on the sandy shore, behind some big boulders obscuring the view of the rocket station.
"Okay, our plan is to get to that station. Station 412 has targeted some light jumps from quadrant 8 sector 13, changeling controlled territory. We all suspect that changelings are the ones jumping. They're requesting our assistance in battle. There are a couple of Sabers in that rocket station. Each pair of us will be in one. They have also spotted 3 changeling corvette warships up there. Each saber can seat two of us, and each two of us will attack a corvette with marine reinforcements. If you finish, get to Andromeda. The city is under attack, and has two missile batteries that are capable of demolishing the 3 other corvettes hovering over it. Ready... break!" Dash commanded.
Fluttershy just upright sniped about 7 Jaspers right then and there, in a couple seconds. I jumped over a rock, onto the expanse of sand before the launch station. The sand kept on sticking to my shields, over my visor, so I couldn't see very well, and ended up shooting some marines, and a changeling drop pod nearly landed on me. I kneed a Kort in the chest, and banged a Jasper over the head, using my gun as a war-hammer. We advanced until we finally arrived at the entrance of the launch station, but the fight doesn't end here.
Dash and Pinkie split here, as Applejack and I stormed through the station. I was immediately introduced to a Himika, who pummeled me with his shield, sending me flying backwards. It was a big square room, so I had a lot of space to circle this thing. As Applejack began shooting it with her machine gun, I managed to get to hand-hand distance with the thing, behind it. I shoved the barrel down the open space of armor, and closed my eyes as neon orange splatters of guts and blood flew out from the back, and the giant fell. I wondered where the other one was, though.
We galloped to the other side of the room, and went up a ramp, into a corridor. A couple of marines were trying to fend of a group of Jaspers. Where there was no space for the Jaspers to run, I lodged a frag at them. The red Jasper screamed, as the two blue ones simply crossed their hearts as their brains exploded.
Jack and I quickly dashed through the corridors and up the stairs, shooting our way to the top. After a while of blood spill on both sides. We finally passed through a door, and there was no gunfire. Instead, there was a two seat Sabre S12 Spartan Edition star-fighter waiting for us to board.
The marine captain guarding the ship told us basic safety instructions, such as; "Don't open the cockpit while in space. Do not press the red button that reads Self Destruct."
A rather fat engineer pony opened the cockpit for us. I stuck a hoof inside one at a time. No matter if it was Spartan Edition, the seats were still a little too small for Applejack and me. Once we squeezed inside, the cockpit closed to fast, it hit my head, dwindling my shields. A few minutes in, the Sabre was launched in the air. I looked out the side as the launch station looked as if it were a crack in a sidewalk, zigzagging across the beach, then it turned black, with the twinkle of the stars, Planet Equestria below us.
Like a rocket, parts of the Sabre dropped off, as the real Sabre S12 fighter starship emerged. I tested the controls, shooting random bullets and rockets into space, narrowly missing Dash's Sabre as he flew away from us. I did some basic maneuvering, like moving left or right, barrel rolls, flips, all that.
"Okay, Twilight, Jack, we'll soon be away from connection, but remember the mission, changelings will be jumping towards your position soon. Don't worry, your not alone," Dash went on hyperdrive, and was soon away from sight. As she said, more Sabres flew past my position. I raced them to the com station ahead. A frigate by the name of "Forward Unto Dawn" was docked there.
"What's our next duty, Jack?" I asked. She pointed at a green blip on my screen. That indicated our next site. Apparently, a changeling corvette warship. I followed the other Sabres.
"Multiple jumps detected, ready yourselves!" an unknown voice spoke from CSTATION12 network. Probably a coordinator in the station. Expectantly, light portals opened in random positions across my vision. I began shooting at the nearest one, and luckily, two banshees exploded, and I barrel rolled as phantoms began blasting their cannons at me. It was just like the academy, when I was 12. Basic dog-fighting skills.
"Z-Beta formation," I yelled into the mic. The connection was extremely strong next to a com station, so I expected everyone in this area to hear me. Our Sabres intertwined into spinning formations, focusing on a group of targets at a time. Purple and blue and red explosions made like fireworks and dissipated a few minutes later. We lost one, though.
My heart reverted to its normal rate after the battle was finished. I wished I could wipe the sweat off my brow, as it was getting into my over-sized eyes. For some reason, everyponies' eyes were at least an inch in diameter, and nearly a perfect circle. I put my Sabre into a hover.
"Twi, it's not over yet, radars detecting even more jumps," Jack notified me. She had control over all the Sabre's radars and communications and stuff like that.
The fabric of space rippled right in front of my vision. I quickly tail-spinned to avoid colliding with the oncoming changelings. Like all Spartan edition vehicles, the shields on the Sabre flickered when the Phantom that scraped the bottom of the starfighter as it came out of the jump portal thing. I had a clear shot at the fuel tanks placed so that it was difficult to hit. I backflipped again, and launched a rocket at the open grate. All changeling vehicles lost power for a couple seconds after it jumped, so its shields weren't up yet. I watched as the changeling transport exploded, right before the shields went up, so the explosion was kept inside. I narrowly avoided pieces of debris that shot passed me.
The rest of the team wasn't doing so well. Banshees were tailing a friendly Sabre, as two Phantoms crushed another. I switched on the afterburners, in an attempt to save the Sabre in a dogfight with the Banshees.
"Drop your bombs, Shark 2," I ordered the pilot of the Sabre. A few seconds later, the JARDIS Air to Land bombs left the chamber where it was kept under the Sabre. The Banshees pursuing the Sabre were extremely close, just out of reach of the thrusters. With no space to move, the bombs exploded on the front of the Banshees, penetrating their shields, and ultimately blowing up the changeling space aircraft. The rest was pretty smooth. The com station had just activated their auto cannons. I was amazed at the power of the cannons, as it easily finished off the rest of the Banshees.
"What's our next duty, Jack?" I asked. She pointed at a green blip on my screen. That indicated our next site. Apparently, a changeling corvette warship. I followed the other Sabres as we jumped to the corvette. A warp jump over a couple hundred our thousand light-years could pertain a regular person from getting nausea. Unfortunately, us Spartans aren't "regular" people. After we came out of the warp portal thing, I wanted to throw up so bad.
"You'll get used to it, Twi," Jack comforted me. I launched rockets at oncoming Banshees, getting kill after kill. A little pop up at the bottom of my visor flashed the words, "Killing Spree."
"What the fuu?" I narrowly avoided some rubble rocketing at our Sabre.
A friendly Sabre flew up to me. The pilot made some gestures with his fingers, before getting crushed by a phantom that just warped in. He wanted us to corrupt the engines of the corvette warship, and destroy their beacon, so that it couldn't run away, or call for help. After that, we were supposed to board the corvette, seize intelligence, and then drop a bomb after we left. Easy enough.
"Do a barrel roll!" Jack called. The Sabre went 360 as fuel rod and concussion beams whizzed past.
"Duck, point two alpha," Applejack tapped a couple of buttons on her screen. Duck point two alpha, a dangerous play. I charged towards the brigade of enemy aircraft, dodging whatever I could, and shooting while at it, and right before I hit them, I flew up, and shut off the thrusters. I prayed for dear life as we dropped onto the phantom. Yeah, sure, the phantom exploded, but our shields dropped down, and our hull took a lot of damage.
"Well that didn't seem worth it," I told Applejack.
"That was millennium phantom dat dere was," Applejack scoffed.
The rest of the space part of the mission was relatively simple. The thrusters of the corvette weren't defended, and the radar beacon was just sticking out above everything.
"Ok, they have some information that we need on here, correct?" I asked the orange mare behind me. "Yeah," Jack responded. I brought the Sabre to a small hover over the edge of the corvette's shields, and datantally dropped down, and landed. The cockpit of the Sabre opened with a hiss.
Low gravity represented low shields, so we would have to be careful on the dock. There was a hole in the roof, where we could easily jump in, but before we could, a couple Jaspers popped out. It was an easy battle, as they were surrounded. We moved into the corvette.
Purple reflective walls and shiny grounds were what the changelings were known for.
"Ok, we need to travel through the left door, where I'm facing, and keep going about 400 meters, alright?" Applejack explained. I nodded, and we were off. It was a short trip to the bomb detonation area, not much resistance.
"Cloak, now," Applejack told us. The UNSC had just recently discovered cloaking technology, and we were one of the first people to employ it. I sneaked up behind a golden armored Field Marshall Jasper, and jumped on him, all the while revealing myself. Applejack did her part, and killed the other Field Marshall, and the rest was just shooting. One of the marines lowered the bay doors, and the pelican with the subspace bomb flew in.
"Ok, the pelican took some damage on the way here, let's just hope the bomb didn't," Applejack trotted to the bomb, and began setting it up, "cover me, a'ight?"
Himikas came in. These were higher ranking brown armored ones. These fired only 1 shot at a time, but they did exactly 718 times as much damage as a fuel rod. I dodged left as a shot whizzed past me. I was blinded for a few seconds, as I accidentally activated night vision, which amplified any light by 1500x.
"God dammit," I yelled. Before I knew it, I was flying through the air, and hit my back on the cold hard wall. When my opened my eyes, the bloody bodies of the Himikas lie right besides me, and the chin turret of the pelican smoking.
"Thanks shanks there Jack," I gratefully implied light, "Jack, Applejack?" A Jasper went flying out from behind the pelican.
"Bomb's damaged!" Applejack called, "I'm going to have to detonate it manually!"
I galloped over, "But, won't that mean you'll die?"
"I'm taking one for the team, Twilight, something we all have to do once in a while," Applejack hoisted me up by the collar, "tell them, tell them what I told you," she shoved a set of dog tags into my hands.
"Oly Oly Oxen free," I chanted, and old tune to which we grew up on. Applejack threw me out of the bays. A tear dripped from my eyes as I watched a black hole open up in the middle of the corvette, and be utterly and completely sucked in, and explode.
"Fuck," I said.
A voice ran through my head; Should I say I told you so?
