Do You Hear the Ponies Sing?

Introduction

We all know the old tale of Hearth’s Warming Eve. How after much disagreement, distrust, and conflict, the three pony tribes united to form the great kingdom of Equestria. But what if I was to tell you that this story was an utter fabrication, and never happened? The true events have almost been completely wiped away from pony history, but if you look hard enough, you can see some of the history bleed through. For example, the words ‘bullet’ and ‘cannon’ come from this lost history, where weaponry was commonplace, and duels were the norm to settle debts and disputes.

So why has the history of the formation of this great nation we call home, been completely skewed, you may ask? Well, it’s because the truth is much more tragic and horrifying. And it all began with a idealistic earth pony named Silver Lining.

In the years leading up to the Princesses’ rule there were the three pony tribes, who lived not separately, but amongst each other in the large city of Canterlot. The unicorns called the nation they lived in Unicornia. The pegasi called it Pegasopolis. The earth ponies though didn’t really have a unified name for it, for they didn’t care about such things. Each tribe had their own ruler. At the time this tale takes place, the rulers were Queen Lavaliere, ruler of the Unicorns. Then there was Grand General Storm Shaker, ruler of the Pegasi. And finally there was Peach Mane, ruler of the Earth Ponies. In truth though, Peach Mane really had no say in political matters, and was just a political figurehead. The earth ponies, in reality, were subject to the unicorn’s reign and the pegasus police. A majority of unicorns and pegasi ponies looked down on the earth ponies with disdain.

The unicorns made up the upper class of this society. Artists, musicians, scholars, scribes, and so on, were all unicorns. A lot of pegasi formed the military and police backbone for the three tribes, while the rest made up the weather control. For their services, the pegasi demanded tribute from the unicorns, in the form of money and jewels, which the unicorns were happy to provide, as they had a vast amount of both. They also demanded that the earth ponies provide food for the the soldiers.  The unicorn royal government was the worst of the lot, for they oppressed the earth ponies with high taxes and numerous laws. The some earth ponies were farmers, who lived outside of the city on farms. The rest worked hard labor jobs and lived in the run-down neighborhoods of Canterlot. All of them were dirt poor and most of what they ate came from what they grew, begged for, or stole. For years the earth ponies were subject to the oppression brought on by Queen Lavaliere’s rule, and the iron hoof of the pegasi police. But that would soon come to an end.

All in all, the events that I am about to transcribe lay out the truth of the foundation of our great land and how the two royal princesses, Luna and Celestia, really came to power. It is a tale of great tragedy, and it is with a heavy heart that I tell it now, but I, as well as the princesses, believe it is time for the ponies to know.

Who am I to tell you this, and where did I learn of these things I claim to be true? As I aged, I found discrepancies in the written history of the creation Equestria. These findings drove me to do more research, and eventually I brought my findings to Celestia. It was that fateful afternoon that she told me the truth, and I implored her to allow me to write it down, which she allowed. All that I write now is taken from a decade's worth of research after Celestia told me the truth, as well as from what she told me that one afternoon. I also found a spell in the Starswirl the Bearded Wing of the Canterlot Archives, which allowed me to travel back into the past as a silent, invisible observer. This is where most of my information came from. If you are reading this Celestia, thank you for telling me the truth and letting me write it down. Who am I, you ask?
