Waking up
Chapter One
Waking up
A cold breeze blew through the Everfree Forest, sweeping over a cyan Pegasus mare with a rainbow-colored mane. Suddenly awoken from the harsh wind, Rainbow Dash felt wet leaves and dirt underneath her body. Looking around to get an idea where she was, she saw Applejack laying on the ground too, unconscious. Worried about her friend’s well-being, Rainbow Dash tried to stand up and get to Applejack.
Oh Celestia, I hope she's alright , Rainbow Dash thought, ignoring the pain in her seemingly broken wing. Hearing hoof-steps coming towards her, Applejack became conscious, seeing Rainbow Dash, covered in Dirt and bruises, her right wing standing away from her body in a rather unnatural way.
“Uhhh, what in tarnation happened? Where is everypony? Or better question, where are we?” Applejack asked, trying to stand up, only to let out a painful scream when she tried to put down her left fore hoof. “Ah think ah broke mah hoof.”, Applejack whinced softly, tears welling in her eyes as she looked down at her swollen leg. “What about you?” Applejack asked while she looked at her her rainbow maned friend, wipping her tears away.
“Ugh yeah, I’m alright. Well I think I broke my wing though,” Rainbow Dash said, seeming to endure the pain much better while she gestured at her right wing. “But I don’t need my wings to walk. You instead can't with a broken leg.” With that said Rainbow Dash carefully lifted Applejack on her back, making sure that she didn't hurt her broken wing any further. Or Applejack.
“What are ya doin', Rainbow? Ah can walk on mah own,” Applejack said, surprised by her friends action and tried to get of her back.
“Your leg is broken, you can't walk with it. Besides you helped me so many times when I tried a new trick and crashed. You always took care of me when I hurt myself, now it’s time to return the favor.” Rainbow Dash said smiling at her friend. Applejack looked at Rainbow Dash, surprised by this side in her and smiled. "Thank ya kindly, RD. But, could ya just support me? I only broke one leg and ah don't want ya to exhaust yerself by carrying me fer Celestia knows how long."
After nearly two hours of walking through the forest, Applejack leaned against her to support herself while she limbed next to her friend, Rainbow slowly came to a stop. “AJ I need a break,” Rainbow said with a huff helping her cowpony friend to sit down. Looking around she saw a few berry bushes and gathered their fruits for herself and Applejack. “Here I got some berries. Not much but better than nothing, right.” Rainbow Dash said giving Applejack her share of the food. She actually didn’t split the food up evenly, but instead gave Applejack a bit more.
“Suga'cube what are ya doin' ? Ya need your food. And ah ain't gonna take the extra berries ya gave to me.” Applejack hoofed the berries back to Rainbow Dash insisting that they would share them equally. “An' besides, ya carried me all the time. Ya need the extra food.” Rainbow looked at her friend for a few moments, unsure if she should take the berries or not.
“OK Applejack you've won. I’ll take them.” Rainbow said with a sigh and took the food. “You know AJ if we weren’t lost in the middle of the Everfree Forest and injured this would be kinda nice.” Realizing how Applejack looked at her she added, “You know, walking through the Forest, enjoying the scenery maybe even search for some berries or so.” while she said this the normally loud and wild mare seemed so calm and quiet.
Surprised by the way Rainbow Dash was acting, Applejack thought to herself. Ah never thought RD could be one o' them ponies who has that kinda romantic thoughts. Thinkin' 'bout it its kinda cute. Surprised by her own thoughts she shook her head to get them out and stood up on her hooves. Trying to put some weight on her left hoof she found that she could walk if she was careful.
“Ah guess ma leg wasn't broken RD. Seems like a was quiet lucky." Applejack said, smiling at her friend as she carefully took a few steps on her slightly swollen hoof. "But ah think we should get going before it gets dark. Maybe we're lucky an' find a cave or somethin' like that.”
Rainbow Dash smiled softly as she saw her friend on her hooves again and smiled, She seems to be better. Thank Celestia, I was so afraid that she was seriously injured. I would hate it if something happened to her. I don't even know how I would take it if something really bad happened to her. Rainbow Dash closed her eyes for a moment scolding herself. Why do you think so RD? It’s like you feel something for her. I mean I feel something for her, she’s my friend. Of course I' m worried but that? That's kinda like I love her. No this is stupid, I'm a Mare she's a Mare, that couldn't work. , Rainbow quickly thought to herself before she stood up and nodded. "Yeah, I guess you're right. Let's go as long as we have some light."
AJ nodded back and took the lead this time. "Do ya even know what happened, Dashie?" she asked her friend and looked back over her shoulders. Rainbow looked up and got a bit closer to her friend, "You don't remember? Twilight tried out a new teleportation spell that would allow her to teleport us all to Canterlot and back to Ponyville. In case that the princesses need us quickly." she said, looking at her friend in concern. "Did you forget that? Did you hit your head?" she asked concerned and got closer, taking AJs hat from her head to examine her head.
"No Dashie ahm fine." Applejack said, laughing softly as Rainbow Dash came so close that her friends mane tickled her nose. "Now, could ya get off of me? Ah think a see somethin' back there." she said, still giggling a bit while she pointed in the forerst.
Chapter Two
Shelter
“Hey Applejack we should go and find a place to sleep before it gets too dark,” Rainbow Dash said “can you walk?”
Applejack got up and tried to walk a few steps, finding that she could walk if she was careful. “Am fine RD, Ah just have to be careful,” Together they walked through the forest, as they heard the sound of rushing water. Getting closer to the source of the sound they see a small clearing with a river. Glad that they finally found water, the two mares walk over to the river and get down to drink the cold water with large gulps.
“Aah that was good,” Rainbow Dash said after she finished drinking “AJ how’s your hoof doing?” Looking at her friend Rainbow saw that she was holding it into the cold water to ease the pain a bit.
“Am fine RD and ah don't think that it's broken. Had quiet some luck there,” Applejack answered her cyan colored friend. As she said this Applejack pulled her hoof out of the water and looked at it. The swelling has already decreased quite a bit and she tried to walk around a few steps. “Looks like am able to walk on mah own again,” Applejack said and walked over to Rainbow Dash “ can ya go an collect some twigs an stones for ah fire an am gonna make some sort of a bed.”
Rainbow Dash walked off collecting some twigs for a fire.
Pheww I'm glad that she's not that badly hurt. I mean what would be if she got injured so badly that she can't work on the farm anymore? It’s her life. I couldn't bear to see her sad. I want to see her smile, see her laugh and I think I would do anything to make her happy.
When she thought that she had enough she returned back to Applejack who had already made a bed from the moss on the trees. Setting up the Campfire Rainbow Dash looked at her friend; let her sight wander over her friends body, along her cool blonde mane, over her legs on her back and then slowly on her flank. She sure has a nice flank, Rainbow thought, and an awesome Cutie Mark. And she got it thanks to me. Pretty awesome that we had some sort of connection before we even met.
“Why are ya looking at mah flank Rainbow Dash,” Applejack asked her friend “Did ya think ah wouldn't notice?”
“Wait Applejack, I didn't look at your flank,” Rainbow Dash said and looked in her friends beautiful emerald eyes, “I was just looking at your Cutie Mark and thought about how we all had some sort of connection even before we met and became friends.”
Applejack looked at the Pegasus mare for a few second; ah don't think that she lied. And she is my friend and a mare. What reason would she have to look at my flank?
Convinced that Rainbow Dash said the truth, Applejack trotted over to her friend and gave her a hug “Am not mad at ya RD. And even if ya where lookin' at mah flank, ah don't think ah would be mad at ya.”
“Really,” Rainbow asked as she looked at the cow-pony, “I mean I'm a mare and you're a mare. Wouldn't that feel awkward for you?”
Applejack looked at the cyan Pegasus and thought about what she said for a few seconds before she answered, “Not really Ah guess. Even if ya a mare it still is some sort of a compliment if ya like mah flank so much that ya stare at it.”
“Oh Okay, but still I just looked at your Cutie Mark,” Rainbow Dash answered. They both sat down by the campfire, telling each other stories and enjoying the company.
“Dashie, Ah think we should call it a night and get some sleep,” Applejack said while she let out a deep yawn.
Rainbow Dash lust nodded and walked over to her bed, laying down on it, waiting for Applejack to lie down too. “Good night Applejack,” Rainbow Dash said with a smile “sleep well.”
Applejack looked at her friend, feeling warmth inside her chest when she saw her smile, that she never really felt before. “Good night to ya too Sugar cube.”

Chapter Three
Rainbow Dash woke up at the next morning, seeing Applejack still asleep, lying next to her with a smile on her lips She looks happy. And so beautiful, she thought, why am I thinking that again? Do I really feel something for her? Looking at Applejack again she saw that she started to wake up. “Hey Applejack, good morning,” Rainbow Dash said with a smile, “did you sleep well?”
Applejack looked at her friend and smiled warmly. This smile is something I could wake up to every day. she thought for a second before she answered,” Yes, thank ya Rainbow Dash. How did ya sleep?”
“I've slept good too,” Rainbow Dash said and stood up, stretching her legs, “We should try to find some food. Berries or maybe we even find some carrots." RD yawned softly, still a bit tired. Together they walked into the forest, looking for berry bushes or something else to eat.
“Hey Applejack, did you ever have a coltfriend?” Rainbow Dash asked her friend, blushing softly as she asked, not really sure why she even did it. Her friends love life was none of her concern.
“No not really. Ah never had time for all that romance stuff. And ah wanted someone who knows what hard work is. Someone who can help on the farm. Someone loyal, who ah can trust.” Applejack answered, smiling back at Rainbow Dash. Someone like ya Dashie. Ah know ya and ah trust ya. she thought and smiled happily.
Rainbow Dash looked at her friend, She never had a coltfriend? But she looks really good, there should be thousands of stallions trying to get her.
“What's with Caramel? Or Braeburn?” Rainbow Dash asked while she collected some more berries.
“Caramel is married and Braeburn has his own farm in Appleloosa,” and after a while she added “And Ah think he's more into Stallions than Mares. Plus the fact that he's mah cousin. Just because ah live on a farm doesn't mean ah buck around with mah family” she chuckled, knowing that her friend didn't mean to insult her in any way.
"I'm sorry, AJ. I know you won't do these sort of things and I would never-" she mumbled quickly, looking away as she thought that she insulted her friend somehow. Applejack looked at her for a few seconds and then laughed, "Ahm not mad at ya sugarcube. Ah know that ya didn't mean tah insult me or mah family."
Rainbow Dash looked up and blushed softly, "Thanks AJ, you're a real great friend." she said and walked over to another bunch of bushes to collect their fruits when she saw something that caught her attention. As she got closer she saw that it was Applejack's Stetson. Picking it up and hiding it behind her, she walked back to Applejack. “Hey AJ I got a surprise for you. Just close your eyes.” Rainbow Dash said as she walked up to her friend.
“RD, what do you mean? What Surprise?” Applejack asked confused and looked curiously at her friend. "If yer tryin' tah trick me. Ah swear Ah'll kick yer plot out of the forest."
“Just close your eyes AJ. I'm sure that you will like it.” Rainbow Dash answered with a grin, excitement in her voice. While her uninjured wing fluttered slightly from her excitement.
Applejack sighed softly and closed her eyes,” If ya try anythin' funny RD Ah swear that Ah buck your flank to the moon.” she growled more playfully then angry and her ears twitched as she heard Rainbow Dash step closer. Feeling something make contact with her head she slowly opened her eyes and looked up. "Is...Is that ma hat?" she asked and looked at Rainbow Dash.
“Yes it is. I found it over there an-.” she couldn’t say any more as Applejack hugged her suddenly, squeezing her thigtly, "Thank ya Dashie. That hat means so much to me. It belonged to my pa." she said happily, "Ah got it before...well you know what happened with him and ma." she whispered softly, feeling a tear run over her chin but she quickly wipped it away.
Rainbow Dash hugged her back, I would've never thought that a hug could feel so nice. It feels so warm and safe. I don't want this to end, the pegasus mare thought for a few moments before she listened to her friend. "I know Applejack. " she said and smiled warmly at her friend. The hug felt nice, really nice, and that AJ trusted her so much that she even told her what had happened to her parents was something very special.
"Yeah, ah sure miss ehm sometimes. But ah got Granny Smith and Big Mac and Applebloom." She said softly and a smile appeared on her face. "And a got all my friends who support me. Especially a certain, wild pegasus who helped me a lot in the first year after....after they where gone."
Rainbow smiled softly, happy that she meant so much to her friend. They kept talking for a few more minutes and when they had enough berries collected made their way back to the campfire.
They sat down and Rainbow Dash started a new fire for the night. They both ate some berries and talked for a while, telling stories and jokes, before they got ready to sleep.
“Good night Applejack. Sleep well.” Rainbow Dash said and laid down, closing her eyes as she felt Applejack lying down next to her, pressed against her back, her fore hoof wrapped gently around her. A bit surprised she looked back at her. They had already spent a night cuddled together but that was just to stay warm. It feels like she is cuddling with me like a....like a stallion would do...or I gues would do. Rainbow thought for a moment. "AJ, what are you doing?" she asked softly and blushed a bit, not wanting to admit that it felt good to be held by her friend. Neither to herself nor to Applejack.
"Ya just relax, sugarcube. Ah promise ya ah won't touch ya anywhere." Applejack laughed softly and looked at her friend. "It's just to stay warm, don't worry." she said and pulled her hoof back, hopping that she didn't scare or disgust her friend in any way.
"Oh, I guess it's ok." Rainbow said softly and gently took her friends hoof to pull it close to her again. "I mean, it's just to stay warm in the night." she said softly. To stay warm, right. I mean, I can't love her, she's a mare. I'm a mare. That's wrong. But, why does it feel so nice when she holds me? Rainbow asked herself before she closed her eyes with a sigh and was greated by a unpleasant dream.

Yay, new chapter, if anyone is tracking this.....sorry, kinda lost the interrest in writing for a while. I promise I'll try to finish it up. And make it a kinda good story. Enjoy my fellow Bronies and Pegasisters /)

Chapter 4
Applejack woke up at the next morning and smiled softly as she saw Rainbow Dash, curled up in a ball to stay warm. The fire had nearly burned down over the night and she needed to get some wood. But I don't want to leave her . Applejack thought. She looks so happy and cute.
Before she could think any further she saw her friends wing flutter as Rainbow woke up slowly. "Good morning Sugahcube. How did ya sleep?" Asked Applejack warmly, smiling at her sleepy looking friend.
"Uuugghhh how can you be awake at that time? It's like....like way to early to get up." Rainbow growled and turned around. A mistake what she realized a second later as she put her entire weight on her broken wing. With a painful scream she bolted up and on her belly, whimpering softly as she looked at her broken wing.
"Oh Celestia, Dashie lay down and don't move." Barked Applejack quickly and jumped up, "Don't move until I'm back. I only need a minute." She said and looked at her friend before she ran off into the forest. Rainbow Dash could hear her dashing through the bushes and breaking off twigs.
"Ahm back Sugahcube, don't worry. " she said quickly and sat down next to Rainbow, putting down several things she brought with her. A few twigs, a few long and small leaves and a long vine. "Ahm sorry Dashie but this'll hurt a bit." She said and a tear filled her eye. She hated it that she would have to hurt her friend.
"What will hu-AAAAHHHHRRGG!" asked Rainbow but before she could say any more Applejack had already grabbed her wing with her mouth and pulled strongly on it to let it snap back in the socket again. "Ahm sorry Dashie but ah had tah do something." She whispered and pulled her closer, hugging her gently while she felt Rainbow Dash sob softly.
"Ah promise ya it'll be better soon." Applejack whispered softly and smiled at her friend, nuzzling her tears gently away. Then she softly stroked her friends back to calm her down while she used the twigs, leafs and the vines to make a preliminary dressing. "See, wasn't that bad sugarcube." She said softly and nuzzled her friend again.
Rainbow whimpered softly from the pain but Applejack’s soothing words and her gentle nuzzles helped her to calm down and after a few moments she even blushed at the though that she just cried. "Thanks AJ, you really are a great friend." She said and smiled at the mare. "You really are awesome." She mumbled and admired the bandaging on her wing.
"Dashie, can Ah ask ya something? Somethin' more private?" said Applejack after she made sure that the leaves and twigs where secure and in place. Rainbow looked up, wondering what question Applejack could have but then noded softly and smiled at her, "Sure AJ, ask me what you want."
"Did....did ya ever have a coltfriend?" asked Applejack softly, looking at her friend as she hoped that Rainbow Dash won't be mad at her for this question. Rainbow looked back for a few moments and then shook her head. "No..I...I never had one. I dated a few in school and later but.....they couldn't keep up with me." She said and looked at Applejack, "I know it's weird and all since I'm a mare......and I'm supposed to have coltfriend and be happy and all this stuff." she explained and blushed a bit at Applejack.
"Sugahcube, " whispered Applejack softly, laying her hoof over her friends shoulders, "Who told ya that ya're supposed ta have a coltfriend and all?" She asked softly while she held her friend gently. “Ya don't have ta have a coltfriend to live happy and be normal, sugahcube. Whoever told ya that is wrong. "
Rainbow looked at her friend with a soft smile and sighed softly, "I...I never really was happy when I dated these stallions and colts. I did it because my mother said it was normal. And I wanted to be as normal as possible. Everyone made fun of me because of my mane, so...I wanted to be normal in at least one thing." She whispered quietly and looked at Applejack. After a few moments she looked at her hooves, "But...I never really felt happy when I dated a stallion....or kissed one." Rainbow whispered softly.
"Sugahcube, did ya....did ya ever think that ya might not like stallions at all?" Applejack asked her, holding her face between her hooves as they looked at each other. Rainbow blushed softly and looked down, "I....I don't know, AJ. I mean.....isn't that. ..wrong? Mother always said that colt-cuddling and filly-fooling is wrong, that....that Celestia finds it disgusting. But, I never understood why." She told her friend, more and more unsure if everything that her mother told her was right.She was right in so many things, always knew how to help, how can she be wrong in something? , asked Rainbow Dash herself while she leaned against her friend.
“Dashie, just because she's yer mother doesn't mean that she is always right. My mother always told me, when ah was young, that I should think over everything she said. And if ah agreed with her, then ah should accept her advise but if ah don't, then a should make mah own experiences and find out what ah believe and who ah ahm.” Applejack whispered, pulling Rainbow closer for a hug, “Dashie, can ah tell ya something?”
