Chapters He woke slowly and felt the warmth of the sun on his coat. The light blinded him as he opened his eyes. The stallion stretched his forelegs and wings before he stood up and grabbed his saddlebag. The nap under the tree at the roadside recharged his energy so that he could continue his journey.
His name was Flower, sure an unusual name for a stallion, but it's the name he gave himself. Before he got his cutie mark(1) , he had no name. The other foals call him blank-flank or freak, and the older ponies called him only kid. After he found out what makes him special, what makes him unique, he decided to make this to his name, Flower.
Flower reached the town entrance from Ponyville. Some ponies do their daily work, and others only hang out with friends. It's a nice and quiet place, the perfect place to start a new life. He walked down the street in the town center to find his target.
The Unicorn looked up. “Sure, how can I help you?”
“Can you tell me where I find Sugarcube Corner?”
She turned and pointed with her left hoof in a direction: “Follow this street, at the second crossing you go to the left and then go straight. After a few minutes you're there.”
Flower opened his mouth to say thank you, but he was interrupted as the Unicorn shouted out, “OH SORRY SORRY SORRY, I almost forgot to introduce myself, how rude. My name is Twilight Sparkle.”
Flower looked a bit confused and said in a puzzled tone “H-Hi, my name is Flower, it's a pleasure to meet you.”
“I've never seen you before, it's your first visit in Ponyville?”
He replied quite normally, “Yes, I just got here and I plan to buy me a house because I stay for a while.”
“Fantastic, I'm sure you will love Ponyville.” Twilight smiled at him. “I'm the local librarian, so meet me at the Golden Oaks Library if you need a book or just want to chat.”
Flower replied her statement with a smile “Thanks, I'll swing around sometime.”
He looked at the clock on the town hall. “Oh, sorry I gotta go. Thanks again for the directions. See you later.” Flower would love to chat with his new acquaintance, but he must find his target before the sunset. So he ran in the direction that Twilight pointed at.
She waving farewell and turned back to her book.
After a couple of minutes he saw Sugarcube Corner in front of him. Flower opened the door of the shop and went inside. A small bell over the door made the mare at the counter on the customer attention. She had a blue coat and a scarlet mane and wore an apron.
“Hello, what can I do for you?” said the mare on the counter.
“Hi, I'm looking for a certain mare. Her name is Pinkamena Diane Pie. I was told that she lives here?”
The mare looked a bit confused as if she don't know who I mean, but after a second she said. “Oh, you mean Pinkie Pie? She isn't here at the moment, sorry. She went to one of her friends. I can tell you where she is, if you like.”
Flower nodded and said “Thanks, it would be nice.”
Flower walked down a long road out of town. To his left and right stretched wide fields with apple trees. Under each tree in the left field were some buckets and in the distance he saw a large red-coated stallion which talked to a pink mare.
Flower entered the courtyard and went up to a mare who kept a nap in the shadow of a big barn. She had a orange coat and wore a brown Stetson-hat. “Hi, excuse me please. Are you Pinkamena Diane Pie?”
“I said, are you Pinkamena Diane Pie?”
The mare stood up and said “Nah, but you've just missed her. She had to go to still get something. If yah hurry you can still catch her. Besides, yah can call me Applejack.”
“Where did she go?” Flower was a bit excited so close to his goal.
Applejack thought for a while when she said “She went through the western apple field.” She pointed with her hoof in almost the same direction where Flower come from.
He thought. Could it have been this mare from earlier which talked to this red colt? "Thank you." He turned around and ran toward the exit when he suddenly stopped and called back "Oh, my name is Flower, nice to meet you." He smiled and hurried on.
He ran along the road back to the town. In the distance he could see the silhouette of a pony. But suddenly something slammed into his side and pushing him to the roadside.
The blue Pegasus getting off and helped Flower to stood up “Sorry, I tried a new trick and as I saw you, I couldn't get out of the way quick enough.” She grinned “My name's Rainbow Dash, maybe you heard of me before.”
“YOU are Rainbow Dash?” His anger was totally blown away. “Wow, I saw your Sonic Rainboom at the Best Young Flier Competition in Cloudsdale. It was so awesome.”
“Yeah, I did the Sonic Rainboom. But enough of me, are you injured?” Rainbow looked a bit worried.
Flower smiled at her “No I'm fine, but it looks like I need to keep looking.”
Rainbow looked at him with a inquiring glance “What are you looking for?”
“A mare named Pinkamena Dian Pie, I've been looking half the day after her.” She could clearly see that he was tired about this scavenger hunt.
“Oh, I can help you search if you want, that would be only fair after bumping into you.” Rainbow's cheeks flushed.
“Great!” she flew up in the sky and said, “We'll travel faster in the air than on foot.” She flew up higher but stopped and turned around after she noticed that Flower wasn't following her. “What's wrong, come up here!”
“I- I can't” He sat down and frowned.
Rainbow Dash looked confused down to him “Why? You're a Pegasus like me, or I’m hallucinating.”
It was obvious that Flower doesn´t like talking about his missing flying skill. “No, I am a Pegasus, I can walk on clouds and such things but flying… flying is a bit complicated. I- I don´t want to talk about it now.” When he recovered himself he said “We do it this way, you're in the sky and I can be down here, after an hour we meet us at Sugarcube Corner, ok?”
She was curious about his lack of flight-skill but only said, “That sound like a good plan, but allow me one question. If you can't fly, how did you get up to Cloudsdale?”
“I found two kind Pegasi. After I explained my situation they helped me to get up there and to come back on the ground after the Competition.”
“Oh, okay! See you later.” She vanished into a cloud.
Flower walked on a road towards the Everfree Forest. He searched in the whole town but found nothing. “How could it be so hard to find one single pony?” He asked himself. It was late afternoon and the sun setting already as Flower reached the end of the trail and saw a nice cottage on a tiny hill. In the trees around the house were many nests and bird houses.
He walked up to the door and knocked. He wanted to ask the resident of this cottage if he knew where Pinkamena Diane Pie could be. He waited for three minutes, but no one opened the door. He knocked again but the result was the same. Flower turned around to go back, but then he heard a sweet voice saying “Wait!”
He turned his head and this was the first time he saw Her.

“Wait!” Flower turned around and looked at the mare. “Of course, only if you want.” She hid her face behind her mane.
For Flower, time stood still. At this moment only he and this angelic creature in front of him were there. He memorized everything about her. Her beautiful pink mane, her lovely yellow coat, her cyan-colored eyes, her Cutie Mark that looks like—
She said simply, “M- my name is uhm…Fluttershy”
Fluttershy. Flower let the name melt on his tongue when he fell back in his dreamland.
But Fluttershy burst his dream bubble. "Excuse me, please?" Flower sighed as he awoke from a pleasant dream. "Is there a reason for the visit if you don't mind my asking?"
“Yeah, I had a reason to come over here. I wanted …” Flower thought “Damn, I forgot it. Probably it wasn't that important.”
“Oh, well I guess... Since you're here, why don't you come in? Of course, only if you have no other plans.” Fluttershy smiled at him.
“T-thank you” Flower lost himself in the sweetest smile that he has ever seen “I would love nothing more."
The Pegasus went inside the cottage and Flower trotted after her. In the inside were some birdhouses and baskets for pets like cats and dogs. At large, it was a nice decorated living room. But Flower had only eyes for the mare which walked in front of him.
Fluttershy stopped and pointed to a couch in front of a window. "Please, take a seat. I'll get a couple of glasses and something to drink. Do you like apple juice?"
Flower was still in trance. "I love yo-...uh" He woke up abruptly as he realized what he almost said. "Your home, I love your home, it's so nice decorated and all these birdhouses are wonderful." He grinned like a fool while Fluttershy stared at him until he said "Yeah, apple juice is fine."
"O-okay..." Fluttershy said, puzzled. "I'll be right back."
Flower waited till she vanished in the kitchen before he said to himself, "Ah Flower, why are you so stupid? I love your home , you've totally humiliated yourself in front of her." He sat down on the couch "These birdhouses are wonderful , who are you? A little filly?" He buried his face in his hooves.
"Is something wrong?" Fluttershy has entered the living room without being noticed.
Flower looked up "Oh no, everything is fine. I'm just a bit tired" He hoped that she didn't heard his small monologue.
"Oh, ok."Fluttershy set the tablet with two glasses and a jug full of apple juice on the little table and sat down beside him.
They sat there for a while and no one said something until Flower couldn't stand the silence any longer and said "Sooo, what do you like to do?" He grinned although he inwardly cursed himself for this dumb question.
Fluttershy hung her head “I- I have a few hobbies. I like …uhm… I like to play with my little friends and… and I sew a little, but I’m not so good like Rarity. And there is one thing, I don't know if you can call it a hobby, but… I like to look at the night sky.” Fluttershy whispered only.
“NO WAY, you too?” Flower looked with wide eyes at Fluttershy “I thought I was the only one that liked doing that!" He was no longer lulled.
Fluttershy looked with a questioning glance at him “How could you-"
“-hear you whisper?” Flower finished the sentence “I can say with pride to have very good ears, but on the other side I'm very sensitive to loud noises. That's the reason why I prefer the silence. However, let's get back to the topic. Why do you like watching the night sky?”
Fluttershy thought a while, as if it was a deep question, then she replied, “I really like the silence and the stars and the moon are so beautiful at night."
Flower nodded in agreement. “Yeah, the moon is the best thing of the night.”
Fluttershy looked at him with a shy glance and asked “Uhm…do you have some hobbies?” Her cheeks blush and she looked away when she said that.
“Ahh…yeah. Like I said I like to watch the night sky. I also love all kinds of flowers. At the orp-…” Flower smiled through his lie, ”Old house of my parents I had a little bed of flowers. There grew daisies, tulips, lilies and one special flower that I loved most.” Flower looked sad and lost in his thoughts. “I didn't know how this flower were called and no one could tell me. Nopony I asked has ever seen such kind of flower, so they told me I should give her a name.”
Fluttershy looked at him again “And how did you call it?”
“Until today I haven't gave the flower a name.” Flower saw her in the eyes and smiled, "but I’ve got an idea. I just have to think about it. Oh and while we're at it, I want to give you something.” He reached into his saddle bag. “It's a small return for the invitation.” He grabbed her hoof and put something on it.
Fluttershy was confused by this token of friendship. “And what is it?”
“It's a seed of this special flower. I know it's not much but I wanted to give you something in return.” Flower smiled at her.
“B-but I can't accept that, it's your flower, you should keep it.”
Flower made a dismissive motion with his hoof “Nah, take it. It's not like this is my only seed.” Flower hated to lie, but if somepony should get this seed, it should be her.
“T-thank you!” Fluttershy stood up and hugged him. Flowers heart started to beat twice as fast. “I'll plant it right now!” She walked in the kitchen. A few seconds later she came back with a pot of earth and a water jug. She put the things on the table and sat down beside him again. Fluttershy dug a small hole in the earth and laid the seed inside it. Then she closed the hole and poured some water in the pot. “I can't wait to see it bloom.”
Flower grinned from ear to ear. “Maybe you don't need to wait that long.”
Fluttershy looked confused at Flower and back to the pot as she saw something moving under the earthly soil. “W-what is going on?” A little sprout came out the earth.
“Like I said, this is a special flower. It grows within hours to its whole beauty. I don't know how it works, but tomorrow it should be in full bloom.” Flower looked with pride at the sprout which grew very slowly but still poking out from the soil. "Oh, by the way. What time is it?”
Fluttershy looked at the clock over the kitchen door. “It's half past nine.”
“Oh no...” Flower looked out of the window. “Damn it!” It was already dark outside.
“What’s the matter? Is something wrong?” Fluttershy didn't know what was going on.
“I should find a mare named Pinkamena Diane Pie before sunset, she had granted me a bed for the night but now I have no place to stay until tomorrow morning.” Flower fell back on the couch and frowned.
“Uhm…you can stay here if you like?”
Flower looked up, a smile dawned across his face. “Are you serious?”
Fluttershy nodded.
“Oh thank you!” He stood up and hugged her. “What would I do without you?”
Fluttershy's blushed. “Follow me, I'll show you where you can sleep tonight.”
The two pegasi went into a little room with a small bed, a nightstand and a table lamp. “Here we are, this is the guest bedroom. It's nothing big, but it serves its purpose.”
Flower entered the room and looked around. “It's perfect, thank you.”
“Soo, sleep well. See you tomorrow.” Fluttershy smiled and turned around to leave the room.
“Good night!” Flower called after her. He laid his saddlebag on the ground in front of the nightstand and lay down on the bed.
He turned off the lamp and stared up to the ceiling, a big smile on his face. “I love this town."
Author's Note
Flower opened his eyes again. He tried in vain to fall asleep, but a big smile on the face and the knowledge that a beautiful mare is sleeping in the next room kept him awake the entire night. He stood up quietly and entered the living room. He took care to not awaken any of the animals on his way out of the house. Flower opened the door and was greeted by a cold breeze of night air. When he went out and closed the door behind him, he looked up to the dark sky.
It was like a black painting, covered with thousand points of light and the sun of the night in the center. It was as beautiful as ever, but in this night Flower was distracted by other thoughts.
He followed the trail away from the cottage and crossed the tiny bridge, after a few meters he leaved the trail and walked on a flower meadow. Flower lay down on his back and stared at the moon. "Hello Luna, how are you tonight?" He giggled because he knew that the moon can't answer him.
"We are doing very well, kind of thee to ask."
Flower stood up and looked around. Close to him stood a tall mare, taller than every other pony he has ever seen. Not only that, she had also a horn and a pair of wings. Her coat was dark blue and her mane flowed like water and was colored like the night sky.
“YOUR HIGHNESS!” Flower bowed to the ruler of the night. “It's an honor to meet you.”
“Thee may rise.” The princess smiled.
Flower looked up. "Uhm… your highness, excuse my asking, but what are you doing out here?”
Princess Luna lay down in the grass and said, “Thoust be stressèd with our royal duties, so thoust hath decided to venture outdoors. And what is thee doing out hither at such an hour so late?”
Flower sat down and said “I couldn't sleep because…” he fell back and placed his hooves on his chest where his heart is, a big grin erupted onto his face, “because I met the most beautiful and kind mare in my entire life.”
The princess giggled. “And what is the name of this mare so fine?”
“Her name is Fluttershy, I don't know if your highness know her?”
The eyes of the alicorn widened a bit “Oh, the element of kindness.”
“What?” Flower was confused.
“Never mind. Do you take an interest in Fluttershy? Enough to court her?”
Flower thought for a while to find the best words “Hmm, I just met her, so I think it's too much to say that I love her, but… I want to be near her all the time, I want to look in her eyes every day and see her smile, her beautiful and kind smile. I also have a strange feeling in my stomach if im around her."
Luna giggled. "This, our dear Flower, is love."
Flower smiled at the princess. "And I thought that love at first sight only exist in books."
She put a hoof on his shoulder. “And did she feel the same?”
Flower frowned. “I don't know, I know her only since tonight.”
“If it's so, you must tell her. Not all of us are immortal such as thee."
Flower looked a bit worried at the princess. “Do you…uh your highness think that’s the best way? We have only just met and I don't want to mess up with her already."
Luna stood up and looked down into Flower's eyes. “Maybe it is not good for your new relationship, but what if she feel the same? We know Fluttershy now for a long time and we know that she is too shy to reveal her true feeling, so you have to make the first step. Do you understand? There is no time to loose, my child."
He looked at her uncertainly. "I- I understand your highness, thank you."
"You don't have to thank thee, it is the least that thee can do for one of our few night watchers." She looked down to him. "And if you want to talk again, just go to sleep and we appear in your dream, but for now you have to wake up, the sunrise already begins."
"Dream? Wake up? Sunrise? What are your highness is talking about? I'm awake and it’s still the deepest nigh-" Flower's mouth shut as the princess slowly levitated in the height and started to glow in a light that blinded him.
Flower abruptly sat up and looked around. He was in the guest bedroom where his nocturnal adventure started. Through the window was clear that the sun has already risen. “A dream? I should have known it. But why should Princess Luna visit me in a dream?” Flower stood up, he could smell the sweet scent of pancakes.
He entered the living room and saw Fluttershy sitting on the couch, she looked at a flower on the table. "Good morning Fluttershy."
Fluttershy was still focused on the flower "She's beautiful".
He walked up to her "Yes, she is. For this reason she is my favorite flower". Flower sat down beside her and startet to dug in the earth around the flower "Got it." He raised a hoof to show Fluttershy what he was looking for "This is a seed of this flower. Every flower left only one seed back, so I get this out of the earth before he starts to sprout."
"So you had only one seed last night?" Fluttershy looked in his eyes.
Flower was dumbfounded for a moment. "Yes thats true, sorry that I lied to you." He looked in her eyes "But now I have a new one so this isn't such a problem." They were looking at each other.
They sat there for minutes without saying a single word, only stare each other in the eyes. It was like at the first meeting. Their heads start moving slowly towards each other. Flower's heart was beating faster and wasn't able to think straight. The cheeks of the two were blush while the space between them get smaller.
But then both stopped at the same time and looked embarrassed away.
"Y-you need breakfast. I'm g-gonna go m-make it." Fluttershy ran in the kitchen.
"I'll water the flower... I guess." Flower ran in the bathroom and closed the door.
He looked in the mirror, a scared expression on his face "What's wrong with you?" He asked his mirror image "You could ruin everything before it even started." He splashed water into his face.
After he calms down, Flower leaved the bathroom. He walked in the kitchen where two plates with pancakes stands on the table. Fluttershy sat in front of one plate but hasn't begun eating yet.
Flower sat down on the other side of the table "Uhm... Do you want to talk about it?"
Fluttershy looked with a uncertain expression "That would be the best... Probably."
And then they sat there. Silently. Without saying anything, they ate the pancakes.
Then they had eaten the looked at each other and said at the same time.
“Later!”

"NO!" Flower shook his head sternly. "We need to talk now, otherwise we'll procrastinate."
Fluttershy looked embarrassed. "Y-you're right." She looked Flower in the eyes. "So, w-what happened out there?"
Flower laughed nervously. "If I'm not mistaken, we were about to kiss each other?" He hoped this comment didn't offend her... But after all... She seemed eager too...
Fluttershy nodded to his statement. "What do you think this means? I mean...You don't have to answer if you want..." Her timid self came out more, her voice became almost less than a whisper.
Flower scratched his head. "Uhm...Fluttershy...there's something I w-want to tell you..." He stammered upon his words uncontrollably as a wave of nervousness hit him, "T-tonight I had a dream a-and in this dream I realized something... Something b-b-big..." He could feel butterflies exploding in his stomach; sweat accumulated on his forehead and behind his neck, "I-I think I... uhm... I... lo-" Somepony knocked at the door. Flower thought he might explode from nervousness.
"Excuse me, I'll see who's there." Fluttershy left the kitchen, crossed the living room and walked to the door.
She opened the door timidly, and Flower swore an explosion happened when a bubbly mare exploded through the door, quite the foil of Fluttershy.
"FLUTTERSHY, are you here?" She turned around and saw Fluttershy getting up from being shoved aside by the door. "Come on Fluttershy, sleep time is over silly! I wanted to ask you something. Do you have seen a stallion named Flower? Rainbow told me that he was looking for me and now I’m looking for him, but I couldn't find him in the town so I decided to ask you if you had seen him and now I'm here! Did you see him?"
Fluttershy just looked to the kitchen door where Flower stood.
The pink mare followed her glance and saw the stallion standing there, in a state of shock. "Oh Fluttershy, you little temptress. You've already caught this fish in your net huh?"
Fluttershy's face turned redder than a radish. "What? No...I- I mean yes...maybe...I...uhm...eeek" she laid on the ground and hid her face behind her hooves in embarrassment.
The pink mare walked up to Flower. "HIIII, my name is Pinkie Pie, you must be Flower, right? I love to meet new ponies. OHHH we have so much to make up, I must throw a Welcome-Flower-Party and then we have to become best friend forever and do funny stuff together! I'm so excited!!!" Pinkie clapped her hooves in excitement. But she stopped and set up a questioning face. "But why exactly were you looking for me?"
"Well, it's a long story. Before I came here I worked on a rock farm to earn some money. I worked there for a year and a half until I saved enough money to buy a house somewhere." Fluttershy was up already and joined Pinkie Pie. They both listened Flower's story. "When I told the owner of the rock farm that I move to Ponyville, he told me that one of his daughters is living there. He gave me her name and a letter for her but forgot to tell me what she looks like. The name of his daughter is Pinkamena Diane Pie."
Pinkie Pie raised her hoof. "Ooh! Here! Here! Here! I'm Pinkamena Diane Pie! Just call me Pinkie Pie! You said you have a letter from my dad?"
"Yes, it's right here." Flower gave her the letter and Pinkie read it silently.
Flower smiled and looked over to Fluttershy. He was sure, that he saw a sad expresion on her face for a second.
"Great, follow me. At first I'll introduce you to my friends, then I show you the whole town and after this we celebrate your arrival. This is going to be so much fun." Pinkie grabbed his hoof and dragged him to the door.
Flower looked back to Fluttershy. "Uhm bye, thanks again. I'll be back soon!"
Fluttershy waved farewell to them both. "I'm waiting for you!"
Pinkie Pie stopped, turned around and grabbed Fluttershy too. "I can't seperate you from him where you just met each other!" Pinkie giggled about how Flower and Fluttershy blush.
The three ponies entered Sugar Cube Corner. In the inside waited four mares, Flower already knew three of them, Applejack, Rainbow Dash and Twilight Sparkle. The fourth had a white coat and a purple, fashionable mane.
"GIRLS, look who I found. This is Flower, he's new in ponyville and we have to make a Welcome-Flower-Party. But what is even more interesting," Pinkie lowered her voice but still audible "He's Fluttershy's first coltfriend." Pinkie started to giggle uncontrollably.
Flower wanted to say something against it, but suddenly a angry looking pegasus appeared in front of him. "Where were you? I waited two hours here with Pinkie Pie for you."
Flower was dumbfounded. "Oh, I'm so sorry. I wanted to meet you after an hour but I got...uhm distracted, however, please let me invite you two to a dinner as an apology." Flower stumbled upon words in front of Rainbow's intimidating face.
Flower rolled his eyes. "Haha, very funny."
Pinkie jumped between them and said cheerfully, "Stop it Rainbow, you flirted enough with him. He is still Fluttershy's coltfriend , don´t forget it!"
Rainbow stopped laughing and blushed. "H- how do you come up with the idea that I flirt with him?"
Pinkie looked at her inquisitively, "Rainbow, do I really have to answer this question?"
"I...him...you...her...what?" Rainbow was speechless, she had no idea how to answer this question.
Pinkie jumped cheerfully to Flower and laid a hoof around his neck. "Well, I think you and Rainbow know each other already so I introduce you to my other friends! Twilight Sparkle, geek extraordinaire!" She pointed at the purple Unicorn, "She is very smart, great in magic and such stuff, runs the local Library and is Princess Celestia's personal protégé and student!" Flower waved to her, quite impressed to meet Celestia's personal student.
Pinkie pointed at the orange coated mare with the Stetson hat, "The next one is Applejack. She is really tough, really helpful and always honest. And she works at Sweet Apple Acres where grows the most delicious apples." He waved to her too.
"And last but not least, Rarity. She's the owner of the Carousel Boutique and make fancy dresses and suits. She's very generous, very fashionable and..." Pinkie lowerd her head and whispered into Flower's ear "And if you want to talk about a...uhem special somepony, you should ask her. I know from a trustful source that she is the closest friend of this...uhem special somepony." Pinkie looked over to Fluttershy, she suppressed her laughter. "And if you go to her anyway, you could ask if she can make a suit for your first date?" And then she burst into laughter. Pinkie rolled over the floor and hold her stomach while she laughed uncontrollably.
Flower started to get annoyed, but he couldn´t hide his smile. Sure, this mare teased him with that from the very beginning, but it was charming in a strange way. He just met her and yet it felt as he know her for ages. Flower started to feel something he had never felt before.
He felt at home.

YAY another chapter is out and I must admit, I´m a bit proud about my story. I don´t know why but i feel so.
