"Sister! I insist, academic records prove do not prove that she is ready to see it!" Luna was sitting on the castle balcony with her sister just before she left to raise the sun, trying to talk her out of showing the third most powerful object in existense to the new, know it all, stuck up, Princess Sparkle.
"Luna, for her to fully begin her rule it is important that she understand and expet the many possible lives she could have lead, it will broden her understanding, somthing no book and teach." Celestia smiled at her sister, as if explaning somthing plainly obvious. Luna bit her lip and fiddled with her flowing midnight hair, knowing she could not press this issue too much without angering her sister.
"But Tiaaaaa......She is still too young, there is no need for her to be exposed to the cruel, or otherwise lives she could have lead, she cannot cope! She is still living in a child's world!" Luna stamped her black sandled foot in frestration, knowing that she was fighting a loosing battle. Her sister, with her tall tanned figure and white silken dress always had a calm authoritive air that she had never quite mastered, she had a tendeansy to occatioonaly breaking out into fits of frestration or anger.
"Luna, it is time for me to raise my sun and for you to lower your moon. Princess Twilight will be waking soon and I wish to greet her, and you little sister, should rest." Celestia smiled warmly at her little sister, Luna stared defiantly back. She loved her sister, but she hated it when she treated her like a child. A pair of wings spead from the backs of the two princesses and they rose off the ground, ready to perform thier famous duties.
As Luna watched Canterlot transform into a speck on the earth, she thought of the times she had looked into that mirror.
Once she walked in and seen a snivleing wreck of a person on the othe side of the shimmering black surface. She had rushed over to where she stood, pressing herself as close to the cold glass as she could.
"What's wrong? What happened?" She had asked. It is an alarming sensation, for your own face to look back at you with such sadness expressed upon it.
She learned that in this version of her futer, she had been transformed into a evil creature called 'nightmare moon' and had tried to overthrow her sister. Celestia had banished her to the moon, and when she got back she had been defeated by none other than Twilight Sparkle and five of her firends.
The fact that Twilight had five loyal friends was completely beyond her, as Twilight was the most study obsessed, antosocial pony she had ever met.
Anyway, Twilight had also used the elements of harmony, and had naturally representled the least friendship related element there was, and she was converted with the powers of friendship.
She was crying because apparently, she didn't feel worthy to rule with her sister after turning into nightmare moon.
Compared to other alterent realities she had seen, her actual life was very dull. She had Celestia had been raised by their mother, creater of all things. She had given them a land to rule and they had named it Equestira. Celestia raised the sun, Luna raised the moon. All is peacefull. Now of course, there is this annoying Twilight Sparkle, that her sister (most likely in a moment of weakness and through a great deal of bribing) had deemed a princess.
Luna thought for the rest of the lowering of her beatiful moon about other lives that she could have lead that had been witnessed through to mirror.
She flew back down to the castle and let herself in to her room through the window, if Celestia really wanted to show that know it all the possible lives she could have lead, it her sisters problem to clean up the mess.
Luna's hourn glowed and her rock music stared, blaring loudly from the speakers, it was like a lylaby to her. She smiled and fell onto he bed, sleep begining to take hold.
When Twilight couldn't cope, it was her sisters mess, not her's.
Twilight's eyes opened at percisly 7:15 am. She lay in bed, mentally reciting everything she had learned last night. The periodic table, the states of Equestira, an extract from Shakesphere, finally everyone who have been in a position of power in Equestira since records began.
After checking a double checking that none of the valuable information had been lost in the unforchanate nessesity that was sleep, she began her mourning routine.
First, she got up and streched (left arm first). Second, she levitated a wash cloth and conjoured hot water to pour on it, after washing her face she would change into her royal robes, and then procede to her dressing table to brush and style her hair and tail, and apply the nessisary make up.
When statisfied with her appearence she unlocked the safe in he chambers and put on her hoof slippers, neclace and crown, finally levitating paperwork and general books from her cabinet that she kept floating behind her as she walked gracefully out of her chambers.
She woul have breakfast with Celestia as Luna was always asleep during the day, then head off the her study to do said task plus other royal matters, then head to the library for a thoughroly ejoyable afternoon and evening of studying, she would have the servants bring her lunch and dinner there.
She reached the door to the dining hall and knocked politely on the engraved crystal.
"Enter." came her mentor's calm voice. The garuds posted outside the door opened it for her and she strode into the large yet completely empty marble dining hall.
She bowed, "Princess Celesita, god mourning your highness." Her magic glowed and she pulled a chair out for herself, her favourite breakfast already laid out on the imprecable white cloth.
"Twilight, I am your student now as well, you and me may not bow to each other," Her mentor looked up from her magicly buttered toast. "We are equals." Twilight nodded, it had been stupid of her her to bow. She would remember next time.
"Yes princess," She started on her panckaes, levitating wipped cream onto them as she spoke. "What task do you want me to do today?"
She took her fork and began to eat, as physicly eating tended to look more proffesional than using magic.
"Not a task today Twilight, I just want to show you somthing." The purple princess looked up, her mouth full of pancake.
"I assume you are familiar with the most powerful magical objects in creation?" Twilight forced down the pancake in her eagerness to answer.
"Yes, Princess! There's the elements of harmony, the alicron amulet, Starswirl the bearded's legindary staff, the Crystal heart, the Jewls of the Griffin Kings, the mirror of Alternet," Celestia stopped her with a slim finger to her students lips.
"What do you know about the mirror of Alternet?" She asked, in a mildly amused voice.
"It is said that Starswirl the bearded created it for personal use, how and why specificly he made it are unknown. The mirror is not dangourous physicly, it cannnot inflict physical pain, but the information that it presents to the viewer had been known to be mentally harmful." She recited word for word a extract form a book she had read a year ago.
"And what information does it present?"
"The mirror shows the viewer different ways his or her life may have turned out, somtimes these possible realities are so much better than the actual reality that the viewer goes mad with longing, somtimes they are to terrible and the viewer goes mad with terror that it may actuly happen aganist all scientific evidence. It can be potencially very dangourous."
"And what would you say if I told you where it currently resides in Canterlot Castle, final resting place of Starswirl the Bearded?" Twilight struggled to contain her excitmeant, an all powerful object, made by Starswirl himself resided for her use in this very castle?
"I would be intreged and greatly compelled to study and reserch it." She beamed, praying that Celestia would actuly give her such a chance.
"I believe you are strong enough to see this mirror, Twilight. So I give you my permission to reserch it.
"However, you must no tell anyone - exept, if you wish myself - about what you see or that the mirror exists at all, Starswirl had as many admiers as he did enemies, and I am sure you are aware that many of his possesions have been distored by said enemies. The information might fall into thier hands. It would be a terrible shame to loose an object as valuable as this. Secondly, I ask that you not let this mirror corrupt you, as it has done to many good people."
Twilight listened diligently and nodded, secretly hurt that the princess would think that she would be curropted so easily.
"Of course, princess."
Celestia picked up a delicate tea cup, and tilted it slightly towards her.
"I shall take you to it after breakfast, for now, I think your pancakes have gone cold."
