Shattered Sanity

(There are a few references to a different Fanfic named “Cupcakes” which is why Rainbow Dash isn't in it. I recommend reading it before continuing)
It was a bright and shining afternoon in the outskirts of Ponyville. Deep within Sweet Apple Acres roamed a famous Pegasus we all know and love. Fluttershy trotted around the lovely woods in her daily routine of searching for any little critter who might need her help. “Oh dear, it looks like this place is doing just fine today. I suppose that's a good thing” Muttered Fluttershy to herself in her ever so calm voice. Just as she decided that her presence was no longer needed, a faint whimper was heard in the distance. Fluttershy shrieked in fear at the sound and dashed behind a bush, calling upon the speed she relies on when startled.
“H-hello? Is s-s-somepony there?” asked the frightened Pegasus, stuttering in pure fear from her secure location behind a bush. The whimper echoed again, but slightly louder. It appeared to have come from inside a small rose bush. Fluttershy, realizing it must have been an animal in trouble, flew over to the source of the noise. And there, behind the foliage, lay a small squirrel, badly injured from what seemed like a gory bite mark from another animal. Large teeth marks were plainly evident along the side of the animal. “Oh you poor little thing!” cried our friendly hero, completely ignoring the dirt stained blood that oozed from the animal and was now staining her hooves as she lifted it. The squirrel coughed out small drops of blood as Fluttershy rose it to her face to whisper kind words of reassurance. “You're going to be fine, c'mon I'll take you to AppleJack, she's the closest pony to here and she's really nice.”
And so Fluttershy ran as fast as she could over to Applejack's barn with the injured woodland creature safely tucked away in her pouch. She ran up to Applejack who was pulling a cart full of apples into the back of the barn, clearly struggling with the heavy load.
“AppleJack!” cried Fluttershy as loud as she could while retaining her calm Pegasus voice we've come to love. “We've got a terrible emergency!”
“Well what is it Sugar-cube? Sumtin' I can help with?” offered AppleJack.
Fluttershy opened her pack that was slung across her back and showed the dying animal within. Crimson blood stains spotted the inside of the pouch, showing the animal's crucial condition. “Can you please help AppleJack?” Pleaded the worried Pegasus. “I think he'll make it if we work together, but I can't take care of him alone. I've never had to work with anything like this!”
“Gee, I'd love ta Sweety but I got these apples ta store down in the cellar. Y'all understand dontcha? Plus it's Apple-buck season and there's a lot more work ta be done 'round here.”
“Oh, I understand” sighed Fluttershy. “I'll head over to Twilight's house, she's super smart and she'll know what to do.”
Fluttershy came running through Twilight's open door begging for help. “Twilight! I need your help with this squirrel! Do you have some sort of spell that could help?”
Twilight spoke without looking at her company. “Well I'd love to help, but I ran into some more of that Poison Joke and my horn isn't going to be able to help anypony” apologized Twilight, horn wobbling as she turned to face Fluttershy. “I was about to head to Zecora's for a quick remedy. Besides, don't you think your fussing a bit too much for a simple animal? I mean, it was going to die anyways. Thats just the Circle of Life.”
“Twilight! How mean!” cried Fluttershy as she stormed out of the tree home, tears in her eyes, making her way to another friends house who might help.
“... So can you please help me with this poor little critter?” Asked Fluttershy to a fun loving Earth Pony who's mane was even pinker than her own.
“No way Jose! Why would I get my hoofsies all bloody and dirty when I could PAAARTAAY!” Exclaimed the excited Pinkie Pie, jumping all around Sugar Cube Corner.
“But he really needs some help!”
“Sorry pally wally, but I got better things to do. Like party, and eat cake, and party, and play games, and party, and sing, and party, and dance...AND PARTY!” Pinkie Pie bounced all over the room in excitement, going from event to event as she spoke.
“Fine, but if this animal dies it will be on your conscious!” yelled Fluttershy as she stormed out of the Sweets Shop, slowly losing her grip on sanity...
And so our good intentioned pony continued her walk through Ponyville, looking for anypony willing to help out a friend in need. She stumbled upon the Carousel Boutique with an elegant Rarity standing outside.
“Oh Rarity! Please tell me you'll help. I've got this little squirrel and he's in serious trouble.”
“But of course I'll help you darling! They don't call me the Element Of Generosity for nothing!” said Rarity in her most proud voice. “Now, where is the little fellow?”
Fluttershy laid her pouch with the wounded animal inside on the ground and lifted the flap, revealing the grim state the squirrel was in. Blood littered the entire inside of the carrying sack. Puss and other signs of infection had begun to spread all over the gory bite mark on the side of the once lively creature. However, the animal clung to life as its chest lifted and fell with each breath. But with each inhale, more blood pushed out from it's wound.
“Good Lord Fluttershy! Get that filthy vermin away from me!” screamed Rarity as she kicked away the small sack and ran into her boutique to wash off the blood that managed to get on her hoof.
“You know what!? TO HELL WITH YOU!” screamed Fluttershy at the closed door to the Carousel Boutique. “I'M SICK AND TIRED OF ALL YOU PONIES BEING SO DAMN SELFISH! Sometimes I could just...!” Fluttershy didn't finish her sentence. She couldn't. With sanity shattered and heart broken, she finally just snapped...
“Huh? What in tar-nation is goin' on here?” Muttered a tan Earth Pony as she gained consciousness. Applejack scattered her sight across her environment. She was in a dark room, with the sickening smell of decay and death. She then realized she was hanging on a wall by her fore-legs with a rusty chain which shackled her. “Hello? Is anypony there!?” called out the now panicking pony.
“Applejack? Is that you!?” cried the most cheerful voice in Equestria in a not so cheerful tone. Applejack realized that Pinkie Pie was also bound to the wall right beside her, only a few feet to her right.
“Girls? Are we all here?” asked a sophisticated unicorn voice to the right of Pinkie Pie.
“Twilight? Your here too?” Asked the graceful Rarity, hanging to the left of Applejack. “What in the Good Heavens is going on here?”
“This is so freaky!” cried Pinkie Pie, panicking, firing questions off in her hyper tone. “Why is the room so dark!? What's that smell!? Does this have something to do with Rainbow Dash? Cuz I swear I was gonna tell you guys about the cupcakes!”
“Pinkie, calm down. We just need to stay calm and figure out whats going on here.”
“Oh Twilight, you always seem to know everything” said a very calm yet sinister voice coming from the center of the room. “Yet not enough to see when a friend is in need.” A single candle was lit where the familiar voice had come from, illuminating the room, allowing the captured ponies to view the area around them.
The four victims were hanging by there fore-legs with there backs to the wall in a semi-circle. In the middle of the room stood a yellow Pegasus in torn green rags that was once a beautiful dress that caught the eyes of many ponies at the Grand Galloping Gala.
“Fluttershy? Is that you? Why you nearly gave us a heart-attack! Now, what's going on here?” asked Rarity, seeking answers.
“Well you should know, Ms. 'Element of Generosity'. None of you damn ponies would lift a single hoof to help out the poor little squirrelly that was hurt. So I had to put him out of his misery.” Fluttershy moved slightly to the right to reveal a gruesome sight. The squirrel that had been so badly injured was floating eye level to where the yellow Pegasus once stood, hanging from the ceiling from its long intestines. Blood dripped from the now decaying carcass and the foul odor had filled the room with the sick scent of death. The captured ponies gasped in shock and disgust.
“Fluttershy, how could you do that!?” asked Twilight. “That's so disgustingly inhumane!”
“Well it's not like any of you damn ponies would help!” yelled Fluttershy to the group. “I asked every single one of you for help and none of you did a thing! I figured this was the best thing I could do for the little guy.” Fluttershy smacked the dead squirrel and allowed to swing around beside her.
“Look sugar-cube, we're awful sorry 'bout what we did. But why do you have us ho-tied down like some type o' wild buffalo?”
“Well that's an easy one,” said their captor. “I want you all to suffer the same way this innocent creature did.” The other ponies all gasped in fear.
“Fluttershy you simply must be out of your mind!” accused Rarity. “Why would you do this to us? Your best friends!”
“Yeah!” joined Pinkie-Pie. “I mean, I've had my share of bloody killing, but that was for a good cause! I mean, those cupcakes were delicious!”
“Shut up!” yelled Fluttershy “You are NOT my friends. I could never be friends with ponies so selfish. So now your going to pay, one by one. And Applejack, you're up first.” The other ponies looked at Applejack with pure sorrow and fear as Applejack hung there, trembling.
Fluttershy opened her carrying sack that lay on the floor. The inside revealed a series of edged tools that replaced the injured but now dead squirrel. Fluttershy pulled out a small bone-saw and made her way over to Applejack.
“Fluttershy, please don't!” cried out Twilight.
“Can it Twilight!” responded Fluttershy. “You'll have your turn.” Fluttershy walked up to the squirming cow-boy pony, tool at the ready.
“Fluttershy, why would you hurt me? I'm one of your best friends.” asked Applejack as Fluttershy stood face to face with her. Fluttershy gave no response. Instead, she looked at her. Her eyes black and soulless. The once kind and gentle Pegasus had been lost. Lost to the cold grip of insanity.
“Please don't do this to me Flutters.” Pleaded Applejack.
“Sorry, but I have to do what must be done. But I'll tell you what, I have a lot of work to do on the rest of the gang so I'm going to have to make this quick. Y'all understand dontcha?” Mocked Fluttershy.
Fluttershy gave a quick chuckle at her own joke before raising the bone-saw and beginning to saw at Applejacks back left leg. The saw easily tore through the earth ponies soft flesh and fur and glided through it like butter. Applejack screamed in agony as the blade worked it's way to the bone, blood spewing out with each slice. Fluttershy applied a massive amount of force to tear through the bone and her leg finally gave in and snapped. “AAAHHH!” screamed Applejack as her unattached leg fell to the floor. Blood spurted in all directions, covering the sides of Pinkie-Pie and Rarity while drenching Fluttershy's face in Applejack's red life essence.
“Have fun next applebuck season honey” mocked the executioner as she moved on to the next leg. Applejack had passed out some time ago from blood loss but still tightened her body as the bone-saw cut through flesh and bone. A heart wrenching sound of meat tearing rang through the ears of the captured ponies as the saw sliced back and fourth through AppleJack's leg. Rarity vomited at the sight of the second leg, hanging on to Applejack's body by nothing more than a thin strand of bloody and deformed skin. “Well, looks like Applejack wont be contributing to her farm work anymore” said Fluttershy, relishing in the torture of her former friend. In reality, Applejack wouldn't be contributing to anything, not on this earth. For she had died of blood loss as blood continued gushing out of the stubs where her powerful hind-legs once were.
“Well that was messy” stated the executioner in a very nonchalant voice as she threw the bone-saw to the side. “Now who's next? Ah yes, Pinkie-Pie.”
“What!? No! I still got parties to go to, and cake to eat, and games to play! I can't die down here!” Exclaimed Pinkie-Pie.
“Shut your mouth!” snarled Fluttershy as she picked up a large knife from her bag of torments.
“Fluttershy, think about what your doing here!” said Rarity, trying to talk some sense into her long lost friend.
“Rarity's right Fluttershy! You have to stop this!” said Twilight, backing up Rarity as best she could.
“Yeah! These guys are right! We didn't mean to let that little squirrelly whirly die! We were just busy is all!” pitched Pinkie-Pie.
“WILL ALL OF YOU PONIES JUST SHUT UP!?” screamed Fluttershy. “IF ANYPONY ELSE SAYS SOMETHING, SO HELP ME GOD I'LL RIP OUT YOUR TOUNGE AND FEED IT TO THE PONY NEXT TO YOU!” Everypony got quite then, nopony wanting to try Fluttershy's temper. “Now, where was I?
“Yes, this will be a good spot” explained the evil torturess as she knifed a small 'X' on Pinkie-Pie's stomach. Pinkie-Pie whimpered with slight pain as the steel dragged itself across her body to form the 'X'.
“Please Fluttershy, just let me go” cried the pink earth pony, expressing pure sadness for the first time in a very long time.
“Now why would I want to do that?” taunted Fluttershy. “When I could STAB,” Fluttershy lunged the knife into Pinkie-Pie's body with each yell, being sure to avoid instantly killing her. Pinkie-Pie screamed in terrible agony as the blade continued to get pushed into her soft underbelly. “And when I could KILL, and STAB, and MURDER, and STAB, and TORTURE, AND STAB!” Fluttershy endlessly forced the knife into the soft under belly of the party pony. Rarity and Twilight shut there eyes tight and turned there heads the other way, not wanting to see the horrific events occurring before them. But Good Lord did they imagine it! They could hear Pinkie scream and yelp and cry as the knife was constantly plunged into her. They felt the warm blood being spattered everywhere, including on them. And that laugh! The most evil laughter in the world which came from the mouth of their captor as she murdered her once good friend. Blood of the party pony covered Fluttershy's body from head to tail, and she loved it.
When the screaming had stopped, and the sound of steel hitting flesh ceased, the two unicorns opened there eyes to bare witness to the horror of what had just happened. Fluttershy stood over the remains of what used to be Pinkie-Pie, breathing heavily from exhaustion. Pinkie's remains lay upon the floor, no longer bound to the wall for her body had been torn apart. Blood and guts littered her spot and only her head seemed to remain untouched, minus it being caked in blood. It laid on the floor, barely attached to the remains of a neck, blood still oozing out of those remains. Her face fixed into an ever lasting twisted scream. One last party yell before she was gone forever. Rarity and Twilight wept at the loss of their faithful friend.
“Giggle at the ghosties...” Muttered Rarity.
“Party hard Pinkie...party hard...” sobbed Twilight.
“DIDN'T I TELL YOU TO SHUT THE HELL UP!?” barked Fluttershy. “I FUCKING WARNED YOU!” Fluttershy charged over to Rarity and stuck the knife in her mouth. Rarity twisted and squirmed but the knife stood firmly in place, slicing and ripping at the soft tissue of her mouth as she moved her head. Crimson blood dribbled down from Rarity's mouth as Fluttershy pried the severed tongue from the unicorns jaw. “Now you know better, don't you Rarity?” Rarity tried to speak but only gagged on the blood that once kept her alive, but may now simply choke her. She'd cast a spell to save herself if she could, but Fluttershy had broken off the tip of her horn long before she had awoken with the others.
“Fluttershy, stop!” cried out Twilight.
“What don't you get Twilight?” asked Fluttershy. “I'm not going to stop what I'm doing until you all suffer the way you made this poor squirrel suffer.” Fluttershy ripped the dead squirrel from its intestine rope and shoved the bloody tongue of a beautiful unicorn in its open stomach. The blood of two beings combined into one sick and twisted bloody substance. “So Twilight, are you hungry?”
Twilight sealed her mouth shut as tight as she possibly could as Rarity watched in horror with buckets of blood flowing from where her tongue had once been as Fluttershy forced Twilight's mouth open and shoved the mutilated, dead and decaying bloody mess of squirrel and unicorn tongue into it. Twilight spit out the puss covered rodent immediately, much to Fluttershy's displeasure.
“Now why'd you go and spit out your food Twi?” Asked Fluttershy in a genuinely sincere voice. “What? IS THE SQUIRREL NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU EVEN AFTER IT'S DEAD!?” yelled Fluttershy. “YOU PONIES JUST KEEP TESTING MY PATIENCE! Looks like I'm going to have to wrap this up with you Rarity.”
Fluttershy returned to her bag of horrors and pulled out a surgical scalpel. “So Rarity, let's see what makes you so damn beautiful.” Fluttershy raised her scalpel and began to cut a thin line around Rarity's face, tracing it perfectly. Blood dripped from the finely made line that surrounded the outline of Rarity's beautiful face. “Okay, let's see what you look like without all that makeup.” Fluttershy then grabbed a piece of skin next to Rarity's cheek and pulled. Her soft and helpless skin pulled away from Rarity's head. Blood now flowed freely from Rarity's face as, what might as well have been, a mask of skin modeled off of Rarity fell to the floor.
Rarity screamed with an amount of pain that may have shook the very heavens itself. Rarity's “face” was now just the inner layer of meat that held its general shape. Twilight finally couldn't bare it and threw up on the floor. “FLUTTERSHY, YOUR FUCKING INSANE!” screamed Rarity, but it sounded like nothing more than grotesque gurgles due to the lack of tongue and massive amounts of blood in her mouth. With each jaw movement blood rushed from her flesh and tendons. Fluttershy gave no response to that comment, but instead commented on her work.
“Hm, well that explains why your face is so pretty” said Fluttershy, waving around the mask of skin, “But what about your figure? Where does your body get that shape?” The sick Pegasus threw her scalpel to the side and pulled a large cleaver from her carrying sack. “Let's see what builds you, from hoof to nose.
Fluttershy began hacking away at Rarity's left back hoof, holding it firmly in place with one hoof while thwacking at flesh and bone with the other. Rarity howled with pain as Twilight shut her eyes tight, not wanting to watch Rarity in the worse, and possibly last, state of her life. As the yellow executioner delivered the final blow to Rarity's hoof, Rarity passed out. She simply couldn't take the pain and blood loss. “What a pity” muttered Fluttershy to herself, yet not quite quietly enough as to not let Twilight hear. “I was hoping she'd stay awake long enough for her to give me beauty pointers. Oh well, better off without eh Twi? Anyways I'll just be a second with her before I head over to you, 'kay?”
Fluttershy returned her attention to her now unconscious victim. With one hoof removed and her target not fighting back, she could wrap things up nice and quick. Fluttershy reclaimed her small scalpel that she had thrown on the floor and lifted a small flap of Rarity's skin where her hoof used to be. She pulled. She pulled the soft bloody skin from the area that was once called a hoof up as high as Rarity's inner thigh. A sickening ripping sound echoed through the dark room as Rarity's skin left her body. Yet, she still breathed. “Well well Ms. Rarity, looks like your face wasn't the only part of your body with some beauty in it.” Fluttershy traced her tongue along Rarity's skinless inner thigh. Blood caked her face and Rarity wouldn't last more than a few more seconds before blood loss claimed her.
“Mmm, that was tasty” said the once kind and gentle spirit as she licked the blood around her lips. Rarity let out a slight moan and tried to move her leg in a feeble attempt of retaliation before death. “Keep that disgusting thing away from me you vermin!” cried Fluttershy as she slapped Rarity's leg so hard it snapped from the force. The elegant unicorn was now dead. “SOUND FAMILIAR!?” asked Fluttershy to the lifeless corpse.
Twilight cried. She sobbed and she wept. Not only because her time had come, but for the loss of her friends. The loss of the tight bond they all shared. But most of all, she cried for Fluttershy. How could she just break down and snap like that? Was it too much neglect? Did we mistreat her? Or was there simply nothing but darkness under a false guise of kindness? Either way, she didn't have time to think about it for Fluttershy was upon her.
“Look at what we have left. Twilight Sparkle. How's the horn treating you?” asked Fluttershy. Twilight looked up at her horn, still under the effects of Poison Joke. It was in no way going to help her out of this situation.
“Listen Twilight, I don't enjoy this. Quite frankly, I hate it. It's a terrible feeling.”
“Then why don't you just stop? Just let me go. I wont tell anypony about this I swear! I'll make up some excuse as to where the other ponies have gone. Just please...let me go!”
“You know I can't do that Twi. You need to suffer as you had made that innocent creature suffer.” Fluttershy nodded her head toward the dead rodent which lay rotting and disgusting with Rarity's tongue hanging out of it's side. “But look, I can't do this to you Twilight. Your one of my best friends and always will be. I could never watch you in pain.”
Twilight sighed in relief with the thought that her friend had finally come to her senses.
“But that's why I'm not gonna watch.” Twilight's expression drastically changed from relief to shock at Fluttershy's words.
“What are you talking about Fluttershy?” asked the confused and scared Twilight Sparkle. “You're just going to leave me here to die?”
“Oh no no no. That would be far too cruel. And it would take to long. No, I've got something else in mind.” Fluttershy re-obtained her scalpel from her time with Rarity and brought it to the side of Twilight's stomach.
“Fluttershy, no! Please stop!” Fluttershy showed no change of heart. She made a fine deeply cut line across Twilight's side. The blood followed wherever the blade went. The steel moved masterfully as she turned it back around and traced another line and removed the flesh. A long thin opening now revealed itself on Twilight's side, blood flowing down from the wound to her hips and then down to her hooves. Twilight clenched her teeth through the whole thing. Fluttershy then picked up the mutilated dead squirrel and held it to Twilight's face.
“Remember this little guy?” asked Fluttershy. “Well, you two are going to be pretty close for a very long time.” Fluttershy shoved the squirrel and unicorn tongue into Twilight's wound. It hardly fit so she had to apply force to jam it in. Blood gushed out with the pressure it took to add the rodent. Twilight instantly felt the effects of infection and mixed blood throughout her body. Twilight's body pulsed in a disgusting manner.
“Well Twilight, we're almost done here. Just let me patch you up really fast, okay?” Fluttershy pulled a small needle and string from her pouch of torture and began to sew Twilight's skin back together. The horrific excuse of a squirrel lay firmly in place within the lavender unicorn as it was sealed away forever inside of her.
“Fluttershy, this is disgusting! What will this solve!?” Asked Twilight.
“Isn't it obvious? You let this poor animal die of a slowly murderous infection. Isn't it fair he gets to cause the same pain to you?” Fluttershy laughed a wicked laughter and began to walk away from the doomed unicorn.
“Why Fluttershy?” asked Twilight, the infection quickly taking effect on her body. “Why did we need to die?”
“Oh Twilight, don't you think your fussing a bit much? I mean, you were going to die anyways. That's just the Circle of Life.” Fluttershy opened the door leading to the outside world, blinding Twilight in it's light. Then it slammed behind her, leaving the damned unicorn within...
