Princess Celestia, co-ruler of Equestria for many a millenia, has finally passed away. The land is sad, but there is no time for mourning; Princess Luna and Twilight, though both devastated, now have the responsibility of running the kingdom without the wise companionship of the now-deceased Princess Celestia.
With the heavy weight of the death of their companion, mentor, and mother figure holding them down, will they be able to do it? They both must remain strong, and think not about Celestia, but about the kingdom, and what is best for it. Unfortunately, that will prove to be a most difficult task…
