Egore and the carnival of the night.
By: A Fool (Aka Squall Lockheart)
Prologue
‘What have I done?’ The red unicorn thought to himself as he fidgeted in his seat. ‘ What if they send guards, this was a bad idea. Why did I agree to this? Why now, why me?’ His thoughts raced as sweat dripped from his brow.
Shut up Egore you're giving me a headache.
‘But what are we going to do? This train only has one stop they’ll surely be waiting for us in ponyville. Then what?! Then how will we save her?’
EGORE! Egore flinched at the sound of his name being screamed in his head. How does panicking now help save her later? Deep breaths, we’ll worry about what we did after we save her ok?
Egore closed his eyes and took a deep breath, ‘I blame you if things go wrong, but you know that’ and let it out as he looked out into the dark night. ‘Are you sure you know what to do? We didn’t get to read that book for long before we got caught.’
“Ticket sir?” Egore jumped out of his seat hitting his head on the overhead rack. “Sir are you ok? I didn’t mean to startle you like that” the white unicorn stepped into the room, a concerned look on his face.
“oww. Yea I’m ok, I think, I was just thinking to myself.” Taking the unicorns offered hoof with a sheepish grin *squee*
What was that?
Egore pulls out his train ticket for the stallion who in turn pulls out a hole punch and punches the ticket “Thank you very much sir, enjoy the rest of the trip. And do be careful.” He smiles as he steps out of the room sliding the door shut.
Several moments pass by the sound of the train picking up once again. Egore breath before you kill us both. Egore gasps for air not realizing what’s going on as fear grips his heart. Just keep breathing and everything will be fine.
‘But the guard found us.’ Egore thought, focusing on breathing once again. Doesn’t matter now we got away.
‘But they caught us and took us before the princesses, They’re going to be after us, the PRINCESSES!’
They can’t leave Canterlot just to chase down one pony. It would cause panic for anypony who saw them chasing ponies down. Besides like I said before, we got away so don’t worry about it.
‘Okay,’ The unicorn leaned closer to the window peering out into the night once again, ‘What if we can’t make it in time? What if they got tired of waiting and already did it?’
Egore. The voice started sounding on the verge of giving up. We won’t know if we’re too late until we get there. We’ve been through a lot of bad stuff in the past. Just this once, try to stay positive. If they stick to their word, we still have time.
The stallion started to fidget with his forehooves, ‘So you know what we need to do?’ he thought as he looked down to his hooves before closing his eyes tightly.
Yes I know the price but don’t worry about that, it’s not your burden. Tears started to slowly seep through Egore’s eyes as he tried to hold back at the thought of what was to come. Egore get some rest. You will need your strength, tomorrow brings your greatest test. I’ll take over and watch for trouble.
There, alone in the train cabin the unicorn cried himself to sleep, awaiting the mornings sun. Along with the judgment that he would likely have to face for his crimes.
Sleep Egore, tomorrow you will set things right once and for all,and you will not have to worry about anyone judging you poorly for your actions. For tomorrow the truth will shine in the morning light, and the one you love may be saved.
I know you are there. The Unicorn looks up and around the room before returning his gaze to the same spot. Egore is asleep and it’s just you and me. I figured we could use a nice little ‘chat’.
Egore turned his head to the side a smile playing on his lips. Don’t worry I won’t hurt you, what fun would that be? No, that wouldn’t do at all. I have a better idea. Egore’s eyes lit up as he slowly got up and moved to the window. Egore here, hasn’t had the best of lifes. The first problem that comes to mind is the little curse that runs in his family.
A hoof found it’s way to the window seeming to attempt to reach to the stars so far away. If you ask around about his family everyone will tell you that they all went crazy. Egore turns back letting his hoof find it’s way back to the floor. But that is not true. They were all like Egore here with another voice inside. The only reason he remains the way he is, is because he gave part of himself to the voice. So now poor Egore is only a quarter of what he could of been on his own.
Pacing back and forth in the small room Egore continued. Now this brings us to our current, Issue. Why are we running from the royal guard? What did we do to get into this mess? And finally who is this ‘she’ Egore was talking about? Egore stopped pacing and layed down on the soft seat. This is Egore’s story, please remember and take this to heart for I fear when this story comes to it’s conclusion nopony but one will remember us.

Celestia’s sun was in the clear sky, songbirds were out in the beautiful morning. The sun was singing, the birds were shining, ponies were making their way to work or market, whichever it may be. A couple of song birds take flight flying through the town of Manehattan playfully flying between trees and buildings before coming to rest on the windowsill of an apartment building. Inside said apartment life began to stir.
The light from the songbirds shining onto the red unicorn causing him to stir from his slumber. “Another beautiful morning.” he said as he yawned while stretching out his hoofs, “Good morning birds” sliding out of bed to the windowsill. “Are you birdies here to sing for me?” A red aura covered the window sliding it open as the birds flew down to the windowsill.
They started to sing causing the unicorn to stare in confusion. “That doesn’t sound right” staring at them with a questioning look.
“Egore.” came a voice from the other side of the room.
“Not now, there’s something wrong with these birds.” Egore said picking up a bird with his magic looking at it carefully.
“Egore.” This time it was closer.
“What could be wrong with you.” Egore rotated the bird trying to spot what was wrong. “You look ok but something is wro..”, Egore’s mumbling was cut short by a red hoof to his face.
“EGORE WAKE UP NOW, YOU'RE STILL SLEEPING!” The red hoof disappeared as the color drained away from the world as the shapes melted away leaving nothingness.

I wake up with a start, there’s nothing worse then these dreams and neighbors who have custom made alarms. Honestly who has a alarm loud enough to shake the windows in the building? I look around, “Still a dump like always, hope the landlord doesn’t inspect today.”
Doesn’t matter Egore we’re being evicted today remember? Came the voice from the back of my mind. You better remember where your bits are, we have to leave town.
“I remember, is there anything left to eat?” I ask nopony in particular, while searching for something edible. Because talking to yourself would just be crazy right?
No, besides you know you're not talking to yourself.
“I know there was a sandwich around here somewhere.” I idolly ask using my magic to scour the cupboards with little luck.
Check the fridge.
A red aura gathers around the fridge handle before it opens revealing, a very green and fuzzy sandwich. My heart sank as my hunger vanished at the thoughts of what eating that sandwich could do to me. “So what was the plan for today since I’m not hungry anymore?”
Well we don’t have anything other than your saddlebags and the few bits left, so we need to leave this town.
“So to the train station and see where we can go?” I grab my saddle bag and make sure it’s on right before taking one last look around. “I’ll miss this place.” Taking one last look at the spot where I wrote ‘Egore was here’ on the wall with peanut butter.
It’s getting dark out, they will be starting a storm so we better hurry Egore. True enough what little sunlight there was before is quickly fading as the pegasi likely line the skyline with clouds.
“Lets go, I don’t want to think about this anymore.” Moving out the door closing it behind leaving the key in the lock as the neighbors alarm continued on moving onto the next ear shattering song. “I’ll never know how she sleeps through that.”
Twenty minutes later one soaked unicorn arrived at the train station. I told you so.
‘Just shut up, at least we’re here now.’ Looking around the station was deserted, save but one old brown stallion behind a counter. Not wanting to waste any more time I make my way to the counter.
“What can I do for you sonny?”
“How far can I go on 56 bits?” He adjusted his hat as he looked over to the route board.
“let’s see here, hmm no. Can’t do that one either” shaking his head, “Appleloosa, is one I can get you on a ride there for about 40 bits. That’s one of those western cities. Or I can send ya to Ponyville for 30 bits.”
“One ticket to Ponyville.” A bag of bits levitates out of my saddle bag as I count off the bits and take my ticket.
“Have a good trip, train leaves in 20 minutes no refunds if you miss it.” He waved as I walked off for the train. Picking a car and taking a room to myself taking the time to lock the door before laying down and passing out. This was the easy part, finding work in this Ponyville and a place to live with only 26 bits will be the true test.
