Chapter 1: What You Don’t Know

‘’You may not realize it, but there is in fact, five alicorns. You may know of Celestia as well as her sister, Luna, Cadence, who was the foal-sitter of the newly transformed alicorn, Twilight Sparkle. But there is one that hides behind the scenes and out of our view. He has many aliases, but he prefers to go by, Optic Flare. He has an innate ability to transform into any pony that is unique to others, unlike the power of the changelings, who can only copy the form of other ponies. This story is to give information of what happened behind the scenes. Instances that have occurred overtime that pushed Twilight Sparkle to become the alicorn princess that she is. So let us begin with introductions.’’

‘’My name is Crimson Frost. I’m here interviewing the recently acclaimed hero of Equestria, and newly found alicorn, Optic Flare, or by his true name, Azure Eclipse. Azure, can you tell me why you kept your identity a secret from all except Celestia?’’

‘’ Well Frost, I…’’

‘’Please, just Crimson.’’

‘’Yes, of course. Well Crimson, if you want me to tell you why I kept my identity a secret, I have to start from the beginning…..’’

‘’I was born from a small star colliding with Celestia’s sun around five thousand years ago. The star exploded causing a super nova. From that explosion and a powerful magic that only forms when two stars collide, I was born. I was never a foal, but was fully grown the moment I was born. I had a limited knowledge of the universe. I looked down and saw a faint land that is what you call, Equestria. I made my way there. Once I landed, I was greeted by many ponies……’’

‘’Who are you?!’’ one pony asked. It seemed like he was shaking upon seeing a brown alicorn with white and red hair.The alicorn thought for a second, not knowing what his name was. He looked up at the blue sky and the sun that was still recovering from the supernova. Finally it came to him.

‘’My name is Azure Eclipse!!!’’ the alicorn responded in a very loud and outspoken voice that made the onlookers tremble in fear. Azure looked around and felt upset. The feeling he was receiving was one of sadness.

‘’Why are you scared?’’ he asked in a much gentler voice, one that would seem like a whisper. The ponies looked up from their cowering positions and eyed the alicorn. One spoke up.

‘’You just startled us is all. Are you trying to get somewhere?’’ the earth pony asked. Azure looked around at the lush green lands then back to the earth pony.

‘’I…..honestly don’t know where I am,’’ the alicorn responded. The other ponies looked at each other confused. Why didn’t he know where he was? Had he hit his head? The crowd of ponies began to talk amongst themselves. Azure was feeling something else he hadn’t felt yet. The emotion of worry started to burn within him. What were they talking about? Him? Why him? One of the unicorns started noticing that Azure’s eyes changed colors before his, well….eyes.

‘’Whoa! Your eyes just changed from green to teal!’’ the surprised unicorn exclaimed. Azure comically tried looking at his own eyes, causing him to go cross-eyed for a moment, which caused a few ponies to laugh. This laughter, it seemed to awaken another emotion in him, but he couldn’t quite put a hoof on it. The tone changed quickly as a pegasus spoke up.

‘’Hey, since you are an alicorn, that must mean you know Princess Celestia!’’ The alicorn looked at the pegasus with confusion.

‘’Who is that?’’ he simply asked. The other ponies looked at each other with surprise. He didn’t know the new ruler of Equestria?

‘’Celestia is the new ruler of Equestria! How did you not know that?’’ the pegasus asked.
Azure decided that it was best he kept quiet about how he came into being.

‘’Well, I’m not from here. But if it’s not too much to ask, where can I find this Celestia?’’ he asked. An earth pony pointed in a specific direction toward a forest.

‘’ Just beyond the Everfree Forest, nopony likes to go in there though. Recently it’s been acting weird. Used to, the clouds were moved by pegasus ponies, but now the clouds start moving on their own.’’

‘’So wait, pegasus ponies can control the weather?’’ Azure asked. The earth pony’s face contorted in confusion, but simply nodded as she let the subject go. Azure started to form something on his face; it seemed the tips of his mouth moved up a little.

‘’Thank you very much,’’ he said as he trotted towards the forest. The other ponies waved and began talking about the new alicorn they just met.

‘’……and of course they started making legends about me, some of it being true, like how I was born from a star exploding. Hahaha, you could say that they thought of me as a deity. I didn’t want that so I decided to lay low for a while. I figured it would be nice to have a grand entrance, but only at the right moment.’’

‘’And it seems you found the right moment, I mean with you saving Twilight Sparkle and the rest of the princesses from King Sombra and Queen Chrysalis.’’

‘’Haha yeah I guess I did. Anyway, what happens next will probably blow your mind in many different ways.’’

The trees of the Everfree Forest were a lush brown with brilliantly green colored leaves. They were cluttered close together but it was definitely beautiful. There was a small path that Azure found so, he decided to follow it. He looked around the forest admiring the beauty of it all. There were furry creatures scampering about such as rabbits, squirrels, small wolves, mice. There was also an array of colored birds, varying in color for each one, such as a toucan, a hummingbird, and buzzards, lots…..and lots of buzzards that seemed to be circling over the tree line. Azure looked at them with curiosity and decided to investigate. When he got to the site, there was a pack of vultures and buzzards surrounding something. As Azure began to get closer, the scavengers took notice of him and instantly flew away startled. Lying there where they were was a very skinny pony. It looked like a skeleton it was so skinny. Suddenly, there was a rustling in the bushes near the pony. Azure took a close look at the bushes and noticed emerald eyes looking at him. Then, a towering figure jumped out and stood over Azure. He felt a pain in his neck as the tall and black pony bit down on his neck hissing as it did. He yelped in pain once, but only from the fangs sinking into his neck. Then it tickled as he began to laugh.

‘’Why are you laughing?!’’ the towering black figure asked in a huff. Azure took a closer look at this pony and saw that it had several holes in its legs and horn. Not to mention she had dragonfly-ish wings.

‘’Whoa whoa whoa!!!! You mean….’’

‘’Yes, I was bit by none other than Chrysalis, The Queen of the Changelings.’’

‘’Well what was it like? I mean, did it hurt or anything?’’

‘’At first it hurt but then there was nothing. I looked at who it was and noticed that it was an insect like creature. Very porous limbs and well…….she looked like swiss-cheese. The bite began to tickle, as well as scar, as you can see on my neck the bite marks that are still there.

‘’Yikes! That scar has been there for five thousand years?!’’

‘’Yeah, apparently, you aren’t supposed to survive a changeling’s bite.’’

‘’Well, then how in the world did you survive?’’

‘’The truth is, I didn’t know the emotion of love, so there was none to be taken from me. She might as well just bit me is all.’’

Chrysalis looked at Azure feeling unsatisfied. Something was wrong. She still felt hungry. Surely sucking the love out of an alicorn would leave her satisfied for years. But this one, it seemed he didn’t have any love at all.

‘’Why can’t I get any love out of you? You must be more powerful than you look!’’ a disturbed Chrysalis exclaimed. Azure looked at her confused. Love? He had never heard of that term before.

‘’Um, what is love?’’ Azure asked simply. Chrysalis looked at him dumbfounded.

‘’Love? Love is what I sucked out of this pony leaving him to rot until plants grow in his place.’’ Azure looked back at her just as confused.

‘’Well, whatever this love is, I don’t seem to have it.’’ Chrysalis didn’t know what to say. Nopony had ever, not loved somepony. She had two options. One, was to give up and leave the Alicorn be, since there was no love to receive for her meal. Or two, to teach this alicorn about love so she can suck the power out of him and gain years worth of work to feed her and her subjects for years to come. A devilish grin formed across her face.

‘’Well I guess you’ll never know the power of love.’’ Chrysalis enticed. Azure became interested. It seemed that this, love, was not just something everypony had, but it enhanced ones power. He had to find out how to get this love.

‘’She started to walk away but I was so enticed by the question of what love was so I asked her, What is love? Baby don’t hurt me! Don’t hurt me! No more!’’

‘’Dude……seriously?’’

‘’What I thought the conversation was getting a little heavy so I decided to lighten up the mood.’’

‘’……..aaaaaaanyways, moving on.’’

‘’You reporters have no sense of humor.’’

‘’Psh, I do, it’s just not the time for humor, although, it was funny.’’

‘’Ha Ha, alright, moving on.’’

Azure took a step closer to her with a question on the tip of his tongue.

‘’Wait, how can I harness the power of love?’’ Chrysalis looked at him and smirked.

‘’There is an orphanage in Canterlot. If you ask around I’m sure you can find it. When you arrive there, ask if you can spend time with the fillies and colts there for a week. During that week, play with them and make them feel good. Then you will harness the power of love.’’ Azure looked at the ground then back up.

‘’But how to I make them feel good?’’ Chrysalis turned to leave, but not without answering his question.

‘’You will find out once you get there and spend some time with them, you may be naïve, but you are not stupid.’’ She said with a smirk. Then she was gone.
