A Promise Not Forgotten
Chapter 21

It’s been about two weeks since we lost Aidan. I lead countless search parties to find him, but we just can’t. Everybody blames themselves, and waits for what Prophet is going to do. Whatever it is, I know it won’t be good. I hope Aidan is ok, but I doubt it. Celestia seems more distant since he was captured, it really hit her hard. It’s hard to believe my little buddy is gone, and will possibly kill everyone someday.
Those two weeks were spent aimlessly searching for Aidan. The camp he was being held at was just temporary, and the gryphons moved off by the time we got there. Zecora went missing without a trace so we didn’t have any leads. We were at a dead end and now wait for him to resurface hoping that there is a way to get through to him.
I’m on my way to meet Celestia as she prepares Discord’s statue for the trip to Ponyville. Everything from the show has come true so far, so I have no doubt that Discord will be able to help us in the near future. I’m also supposed to aid in his transformation. Right now Colin is practicing his magic that he acquired from God knows where, so he will not be able to come.
Opening the door to the runway I saw Celestia looking at the statue, “Hey Celestia.”
“Hello Dan,” She said still staring at the statue’s frozen eyes.
“Something wrong?” I meant more so than usual.
“Do you really think we can get through to Discord?”
“I know we will. We have no other option, this will work. Trust me,” I said hoping to ease her mind.
Celestia looked to me, “Do you think he will help us get Aidan back?”
That I didn’t know, but I had a feeling that he would be willing to help. “With Prophet threatening destruction of the world, he doesn’t have much of a choice,” I said. The words calmed the princess of the sun. “Celestia, I’ve known Aidan since he was born. He will do everything he can to fix this. He will find a way, trust me.”
“But what if he can’t? What if he never comes back?” Celestia asked as she began to let all the feelings bottled up to come out. “What if we fail?”
“We won’t Celestia. I will make sure Aidan comes back safe. I promised, remember?”
Celestia looked off to the rising sun. Aidan promised too, now where is he. Whatever Prophet wants with him, he finally got it.
Colin: Who again wrote this part!
Though they were all futile, I still feel guilty for not going on those search parties. I had been stuck reading books on magic/learning from Twilight during the day, and sneaking to the library at night.
I had read most of Naturalizing The Supernatural. It did talk about making “hard light” as a possible ability of someone made out of pure energy (which made me question whether or not I was still human). As for controlling it, all I could understand was that one has to be absolutely calm with a clear mind, which allowed for more control, or in an extremely emotional state (thus explaining my previous experience).
All attempts at producing hard light ended up with things catching fire or melting.
I guess I was just too aware of the world around me, and when thinking of how it felt to hold the bow (it vibrated rhythmically at a high speed), I caused a lot of heat in the things nearby.
That night I had been in the library. I was reading Naturalizing The Supernatural, and accidently dropped the book. To my surprise, it fell open to the very last page, and stuck into the binding was a small piece of paper.
It said: “Colin, Darkness by its nature must run from the light. The light chases it from its hiding place, uncovering every door it hides behind.”
“That’s all well and good,” I said to myself, “but it doesn’t help me at all if I can’t make any light”
I hadn’t cried in a long time. The last time I did, it had been after my grandparents had died, and I guess I had just buried my emotions since then.
However, as I sat there by the shelf, I cried.
I was in a strange new place, away from all my family (all of which were probably dead), my best friend had been captured by talking gryphons, and there was nothing I could do about any of it!
Through the spaces between my fingers I saw the flickering of light on the floor.
“OH SHIT!” I thought, “They found me!”
But when I looked up, I realized the flickering was not from some carried torch or candle, but from my tears. My tears were glowing. My hands were covered with liquid light, and without realizing it, I wiped them on the bookshelf next to me.
Letters formed on the wood where I touched it. I quickly spread more light on the wood and eventually could read what it said:
“Mrrn ebkbfq? Lbi”
At first I thought it was gibberish, but then I realized it was in code. My code. One of the ones I wrote back on earth. Translated, it said: “Look beneath me.”
I looked beneath the shelf, and sure enough, there was a small hole. Throwing my fear of spiders to the wind, I quickly stuck my finger in it, and pushed a button inside.
Suddenly, a floor board to my right popped up. I lifted it up further, reached in below it, and pulled out a small black book.
It was a diary, and unmarked.
I wonder whose this is. I thought to myself.
I flipped to a random page, and started to read:
“Today Mendax called me “Prophet”. Jokingly so of course, as a sort of revenge for me giving him his name. Unfortunately I think it’s starting to stick. People keep calling me that.”
This thing is coming with me, I thought. I pushed the floor board down, checked to make sure that the tears had all dried up, and went back to my room for the night.
“I’m going to be so fucking tired in the morning” I thought.
Dan:
We flew to Ponyville in uncovered carriages. I suppose Celestia didn’t care anymore if the public saw humans. Discord’s statue was in the same carriage I was in; I had to make sure it didn’t fall out during our flight. The trip was that same short boring trip we had taken many times before. Now that Aidan was gone and Prophet’s plan was in motion, everything we do seems like a waste unless it has to do with getting him back. Luckily Discord’s reformation would mean help in reaching that goal, so everyone had a determined and slightly cheery air to them.
Twilight and the elements used their release spell on the statue. I just couldn’t help myself when Discord came to, “DADDY!” I screamed as I ran up and hugged him. The look on his face was priceless!
“Get off me you filthy beast,” Discord said as he pushed me away and brushed his hands off. The rest of the day proceeded just like the episode did. I followed to make sure nothing bad happened, and let me tell you, the turning house part wasn’t fun. Not at all.
The time came as expected and he reformed just like in the show. Celestia came back to greet him. Their dialogue was exactly the same as from the show, it was odd really. How are our two worlds connected, and why can we see into the future. Maybe the developers have some sort of subconscious bond between realities.
Discord and I were taken back to Canterlot with Celestia. We have to get Discord in on our plans. Upon our arrival Celestia took us to the throne room and shut the doors; this didn’t need to be heard by public ears.
“So, Celestia, what fun shall we have now?” Discord asked in a slightly mocking tone. He wasn’t all good, but neither am I.
“You are to assist Dan in finding Aidan,” She said with a commanding tone.
“Who is this Aidan?” Discord asked.
“Another human, but Prophet has taken control of him and plans to destroy Equestria,” I said.
“Prophet? Oh, the chaos he could cause!” Discord said chuckling. Celestia and I gave glared at him. “But that’s not what we want, now is it?” He said with a wry smile.
“I don’t think prophet would care much for someone like you,” I said insultingly. “He wants to ruin this world, not make a joke of it.”
Discord snarled at me, “You would be surprised, human…”
“You need to help me find Aidan before Prophet does something with him.”
“And what makes you so sure he isn’t dead?” Discord asked trying to ruin our plans.
“I don’t know, but I have a feeling you can sense chaos,” I replied.
With a grunt he said, “You’re right, I can sense chaos, but why would I want to?”
I glared at Discord and grabbed for his throat. Holding him off the ground with one arm I said, “Help us, or die.”
Celestia stared in awe as I threatened Discord’s life. Even she couldn’t muster herself to kill. We humans were something this land needed to ensure true peace, to kill off the bad things in it. People like Prophet and Discord just want to watch the world burn.
“Very well,” Discord said surprised at my threat. Nopony had ever threatened him like that. The Elements of Harmony couldn’t be used to kill so he was still alive, now was a different story. “When shall we leave?” Discord asked.
“As soon as you are ready,” I replied walking out of the throne room.
Colin:
“Come on! Block it!” Twilight yelled at me.
“I’m trying! I’m trying!”
I had made some progress with the telekinesis thing, but I couldn’t lift anything heavier than the average library table. And stopping moving things was even harder, I could barely keep books from hitting me, much less the chairs Twilight was sending at me now.
I was knocked on my ass yet again.
“GOD DAMNIT!” I yelled, “I CAN’T DO THIS SHIT! ARRRRRRRRRRGGGG!”
*WHAM!
Every piece of furniture in the library lifted up and slammed back down again. A large shelf began to fall off of the second level, right above Twilight. I jumped to shield her, but it was happening to fast.
I landed next to her while simultaneously stretching myself over her.
This is all my fault! I thought.
But nothing happened.
“I think you just proved yourself wrong” said Twilight, in a strangely calm voice. “I’ll take it from here.”
I looked up. The bookshelf was hovering a full five feet above my head.
“Th-that’s me?” I asked.
“Yeah, I told you that you could do it Colin!”
The shelf moved back into place.
Oh yeah, that’s right. She’s the element of magic. Of course she could move that thing. I thought to myself.
“I think it’s time to take a break for a while,” said Twilight.
I agreed. I was still somewhat shocked. I had no idea what to think about what I just did. For some reason, to me it was stranger than producing light from my tear ducts. Go figure.
I walked outside, and my stomach growled.
Time to go find some food…
Dan:
Discord and I walked through the passages of Canterlot to the front gate. We would be traveling on foot to avoid being spotted, besides I could run faster than the carriages could take us. “Ok, look for him,” I said to Discord.
He looked into the distance and sniffed the air around him. “That’s impossible!” Discord said with a horrified look on his face.
“What?” I asked, not in the mood for delays.
“The whole gryphon kingdom is in Chaos! There is a peak at the capital though, we should head there first.” He said still in disbelief.
“Fuck, well, let’s get moving,” I said as I started to sprint to where Discord pointed, he plopped to all fours and ran after me.
