The moon. It is a beautiful sight. The pure white looks amazing against the deep indigo. The stars, twinkling, lovingly cherished and cared for by the moon. The moon cares for all in the night. Peacefully looking down at the sleeping ponies. That was the problem Luna had though. Sleeping. Nopony cherished her night. Only I, Winter Spot loved her night. I loved her even more so.
I had no problem with the ponies sleeping. It was so peaceful for us. Nopony bothering us other than ourselfs. We had so much fun together.
We met when I was around 24. She was flying over the small town of Manehatten. I was staring at her sky in awe. I was an astronomer at the time. Studying the stars and the sky. My colleagues enjoyed looking at the sky. I was different however. I fell in love with the sky. It was rich with emotions. Happiness. Sadness. Anger. Joy. Love. Guilt. Many more too. The stare told a story. It was a beautiful story at that.
Then she saw me. Staring at the sky like no others had. She is the only pony I have eve seen as beautiful as the night. That was because she was the night. She made the night. Now I understand. The story in the sky was her story. Those emotions were her emotions.
She flew down to me, "What are you staring at with such passion?" She asked me.
I replied, "The night sky. I have never seen anything more beautiful than the sky." At that point I haven't even looked at her yet. I turned my head towards her. My mouth dropped. "Except you." I spurted out.
I know what you're thinking. Cheezy. But I did it. She just blushed and sat down we just sat and stared at the sky untill dawn. As the night became old she raised the sun.
She then asked, "Will you be here tomorrow night?"
"Yes," I murmered.
Without another word she took off and flew away.
For a month or two we did that every night. We just sat there sometimes we talked. It wasn't until one night that changed everything. I asked something. Something I've been wondering about for a while.
"Luna," I started, "ever since I met you there has been a new feeling in your beautiful sky. That feeling is love. Why is that?"
Her answer surprised me. It was simple though. She just turned and kissed me. Just like that. She just jumped on me. I was so surprised. I mean me, just a lowly astonomer, being kissed be the princess of the night. Go figure.
For three whole years we loved each other. Three years of happiness. Then she came. The deamon of the night. Nightmare moon.
One night she didn't come. Then I looked up to the moon. There was a shape of a mare in that moon. And the sky, oh the sky it was horrible. It was full of depression. It was horrible. That was the day she left. Her sister skys are horrible. She does them poorly. I still love her though.
