Happy 13th Birthday!

Yay, yay, yay, yay! It's morning! What morning? The morning of my BIRTHDAY! I'm going to get a Nintendo DS as a present, and loads of games! Maybe even some new cloths! But, I'll have to wait until my brother, mum, and dad go downstairs until I can go down. So, let's get going...

I sat in my soft, pink bed for a moment, cuddling my soft teddy waiting for mother and father to wake up.

5 minuets... 10 minuets...  20 minuets... 30 minuets...

Urg! When will they wake up! They would have gotten up by now. Oh- I just caught sight of the clock. 7:30 AM. Of course. It seems I was too excited to sleep.

"Tap, tap, tap..." something was tapping on my window, "Tap, tap, tap..."

I rolled out of my bed, and opened my curtains. It was still dark, with the moon shining like a beacon. Nothing was there but the cold air, but I could have just misheard the tapping, as I haven't slept at all. Hm? What's that? There was a small, navy-blue box on my windowsill, with letter crudely gouged into the top, reading:

'For you.'

I picked up the small box, and sat on my bed, and looked at the mysterious box. On the sides, it had pictures of some sort of cute fly thing, with huge wings and adorable, large eyes. I smiled gently, and lifted the lid. Little sparks of blue, red and green rose out of the box. They flew around each other for a moment, before stopping, and swirling round me.

The green spark split in two and went into my shoulders, the blue one went into the bottom of my spine, and the red one went into the centre of my body, roughly in-between my lungs. The bits where the lights went in became numb, but I ignored it. I heard planks squeaking from my parents and brothers room.

I quickly got dressed, and glanced at the clock. What? It was 9 o'clock! How did that happen?! I swear it was 7:34 when I opened the box! I shook my head, and opened my door. I saw my brother just coming out of his room.

"Happy birthday Gilda!" cried my brother excitedly.

My brother didn't care about anyone but himself. The only reason he liked birthdays is because Granny all ways brings us both presents, and that we get cake.

"Shut up." I growled in reply.

My brother gave me a rude took before going down the stares. I went into my parents room, to find them gone. They must be down the stairs already.

I smiled gently, and turned round and began towards the stares. Suddenly, pain exploded in my shoulder, and I leaned heavily on my mothers set of drawers. I felt something push out from my shoulders. I gritted my teeth through the pain, but soon it was gone.

"Gilda!" called my mother in her soft tone form down the stairs.

"Coming!" I called back, ignoring the pain, and continuing towards the top stair.

I went down the stairs and opened the door. I was hit with an explosion of confetti and streamers. My eyes widened as I was met by huge boxes wrapped in colourful paper. A huge grin adorned my face, and I began towards the presents.

"Oh, you baby! You found those fake, brown wings again didn't you!" growled my brother, looking at my back.

I ignored him, and grabbed my first present...

... Once I unwrapped all of my presents and put them away, I went up to my room and looked in my mirror. My T-shirt was ripped at the shoulders, and small, brown wings poked out. They fluttered every now and then, and I whined quietly. Pain erupted in the bottom of my spine. There was soft cracking, as muscle and bone re-shaped and pulled. Soon, a small, brown tail poked out from the bottom of my shirt. I didn't scream. No, I wouldn't alert my family to my new changes. But I was frightened. Suddenly I realised that those sparks that wen into me, were in fact wisps.

Willow-the-wisp to be exact. In stories, they are said to lead people to their doom. Well, these ones must be different ones, out to ruin peoples lives.

But, I guess it's nothing. Hopefully...
