Load Full StoryNext ChapterI like lists.
There's something oddly soothing about formulating lists, especially long ones. It keeps my mind preoccupied whenever I'm distressed. The only other thing that could keep me distracted is books, but sadly I didn't bring one with me today.
A snore escaped from the man sitting next to me, temporarily distracting me from making item no. 5 on my mental list of reasons why I hate traveling.
"Snoring," I muttered through gritted teeth.
That is definitely going to be item no. 6.
"Come on Dawn, it's not so bad."
I shot my younger brother a withering look. Sam shrugged in response and went back to watching shows on his iPad. Sam's silence made me feel a little guilty for being mean to him. It really wasn't his fault that I was stuck on this plane, heading to the middle of nowhere.
Since dad and mom died, Sam was all I had left. The funny thing is we weren't even biologically related. I found him when he was still a baby, swaddled in bed clothes next to our dumpster in the front yard. Dad and mom decided to adopt him, and he became the newest addition in the Lee family. Though I would never admit it to his face, the day I found him was the happiest day of my life.
My older brother and I were pretty close too. But he was away in college when the car crash happened. Therefore, it was decided at the funeral that Sam and I were to go to our aunt in Mannville, which was this small town in Texas.
I'm not complaining or anything, but before the funeral, I had never even heard of Mannville. The only good thing about this move was that I'd be living in a library. No seriously. The library of Mannville is situated on the ground floor and we'll be living above it.
The thought of living so close to hundreds of tomes cheered me up. Plus Sam was coming with me. I have all the company I need to spend the rest of my existence peacefully.
"Hey Dawn, watch this!"
I glanced over at what Sam was watching on the iPad. "Geez bro. Ponies?"
"It's seriously not bad at all. Just give it a go. If you don't like it, you don't need to watch the rest of the series."
"There's a series?"
"JUST WATCH IT."
"Fine. "
This was going to be a long trip.
