What if... Twilight refused to go to Ponyville?
The library at Celestia's Nightmare Moon's School for Gifted Unicorns was one of the largest in all of Equestria. The usually well kept library was in an unusually disheveled state. Books were stacked around the room in vast piles. And in the middle of the pile was none other than Princess Celestia's prize student, Twilight Sparkle.
The mare, now much older, shut the large book she was reading, and turned towards her assistant.
"Spike, can you fetch me another book to read?" The teenaged dragon raised an eyebrow.
"Twilight, you've read every book in this library twice over. Don't you think you should go out and you know... socialize?" The unicorn laughed and shook her head.
"Spike, you know that the fate of Equestria doesn't rest in me making friends! Now, fetch me another candle and a book." Spike sighed and gazed out the window and into the night sky.
"Maybe the fate of Equestria does rest in you making friends Twilight," the dragon mumbled, "maybe if you made some friends, Princess Celestia would still be here..."

The normally lively Ponyville was plagued with darkness and despair. Pinkie Pie, or as she now liked to be called, Pinkamina, served tea to the pile of turnips sitting next to her. A nervous tick overcame her face as she poured tea into the cup. Sighing, the straight maned filly sat, staring at her cup of tea. A tear slid down her face into the cup, followed by many more.

A dry leaf blew across the dying orchards of Sweet Apple Acres. The Apple Family sat on their porch and gazed at their dying orchards as the construction ponies started chopping down their beloved orchards to build a new mini mart. Applejack looked up at the night sky teary eyed, "I'm sorry Ma and Pa, we failed ya."

Now that eternal night plagued Equestria, Fluttershy's home was filled to limit with the animals of Equestria, leaving her busier than ever. The nocturnal animals were constantly awake due to the darkness outside where as the diurnal animals were constantly asleep. Fluttershy had lost control, causing her to turn into an angry tyrant. It wasn't how she wanted to be, but the animals were going to love her.

Carousel Boutique was deserted. Construction ponies had hammered the last board over the windows, and Rarity had placed her boxes into the taxi waiting on the street. Taking one final look at her life work, the unicorn climbed into the taxi set to whisk her away to her parents home. They were glad to have her back, but Rarity was less than thrilled. It pained her to know that she'd have to live with her parents again. Knowing that her life goals had crashed and burned.
"I am... a failure..."

Rainbow Dash soared through the dark sky. Gazing down at the desolate town once known as Ponyville, she sighed. She knew she couldn't leave. This was where her loyalties laid. But everyday, more and more ponies were leaving. Heck, her weather team was down to two ponies, and who knew how long it'd be until they'd skip town. She'd thought about skipping town, but she couldn't. This was her home. And there was no way she was leaving without a fight. They would have to drag her out kicking and screaming before she left. Dejectedly, Rainbow flew back to her cloud home, leaving Ponyville to wither away.
