When Two Worlds Collide
Posters and Cider

_________________________________________________________________________________________
I awoke the next morning. I refused to move from my warm bed, the AC in my home turning on and blasting cold air onto my face and bed-mane. I decided to get up, mostly because I had to both go and continue my search for this mysterious DJ Pon-3 and I also had to hang up the posters all over Manehattan. I sighed, keeping my blanket over my body as I got out of bed, draping it over my back and wings. A shiver of coldness made its way down my spine as I trotted over to my desk. I enveloped the papers and the empty glass in my magic and I trotted out of my room after kissing my hoof and placing it against the picture of my parents. I closed the door behind me and trotted lazily down the stairs, the blanket trailing behind me and falling off once my hooves made contact with the light brown carpet. The blanket now rest on the bottom step but I left it there, trotting into the kitchen and placing my glass in the sink and the posters on my bar-like counter. I had chairs that looked like stools that belonged in bars. I loved the uniqueness of my home. I stood on my hind hooves while rummaging through my kitchen drawers looking for the tape I always seem to misplace.
I gave up with the tape search and flew upstairs, carrying my blanket up the stairs with me as I opened my door, throwing it on my bed carelessly. I once again made my way downstairs, closing my door and trotting into my living room, turning on the news while I now began my search for the stapler I have always misplaced along with the tape. It'd be a miracle if- "They happened to be right next to each other," I said, finishing my thought aloud as I enveloped both the tape and the stapler in my magic with a huff. "I really need to label where I put things," I mumbled, returning into my kitchen and placing both of the items down beside the posters as I went into my refrigerator, pulling out an apple and a cold cup of apple juice. I bit into the green apple, screwing up my face at how sour the taste was. I shrugged it off, still deciding to eat it as I brought the cup of apple juice to my lips, taking a sip before I sat it down on the counter, taking a seat in one of the stools. I began sketching up some more pictures on a clean sheet of paper before I heard a knock at the door. "Who is that at this time of the-oh, it's twelve. Well, I slept late today," I said to myself before getting up, trotting over to the door. "Who is it?"
"Vinyl Scratch. Uh, is this the residence of Silver," there was a pause from the voice on the other side of the door, "Mist?" they finished.
I opened up the door to see a white unicorn mare with a two-toned blue mane and short tail with purple shades covering her eyes. "Yeah, this is she. Who are you?"
Vinyl took off her glasses, enveloping them in her own magic and putting them atop of her head. "I'm sure you know who I am! Everypony here knows!"
I shrugged, obviously clueless. "I'm sorry ma'am, but I don't."
The mare facehoofed and then looked at me with her red colored eyes. "I'm DJ Pon-3."
I gasped, nearly falling backwards onto my plot. I was a mess, I realized. My mane was everywhere, my eyes had bags under them, and I was just ew. I backed away from the door, making room for Vinyl to enter my home. "Please, come in. I'll be one moment," I said once she had trotted in. She was clearly looking at the photos' of my family. "There's some cider, apple juice, water, and orange juice in the fridge, help yourself," I told her, watching her trot into the kitchen.
"Aww yeah, you got cider? Hard or light?" she questioned.
I replied, "I have both. Take which ever you'd like."
"Don't mind if I do," Vinyl said, opening up the refrigerator with her magic and taking out two ciders. I noticed one was hard and the other was light. "Thanks."
I nodded my head in reply and said, "I'll be just a moment." With that, I flew upstairs and into my bathroom, enveloping my brush in my magic and combing my mane and tail quickly. I brushed it to the right side, letting it barely fall over my right eye. I began to then wash my face and brush my teeth simultaneously. I then looked at myself in the mirror, believing I now looked presentable in the eyes of what seemed like to me a celebrity. I trotted down stairs again after I had gone into my room and put on my green peace sign necklace and examined myself in the mirror. "Okay, let's go try this again," I had said while I made my bed. I looked in the kitchen and saw Vinyl looking for something in the cabinets. "What are you looking for?" I asked her.
Vinyl turned her head and I saw a lettuce sandwich hanging from her jaw. She cracked a smile and enveloped it in her magic. "I meant to ask, but I didn’t know where you went. Can I have it?" she asked me, staring at me with pleading eyes.
I sighed in defeat. "Sure. So, how'd you find me?"
"Actually, that somepony that told you about me, told me your address. I couldn't help but find you. Trust me, I had to give up a gig at Ponyville," Vinyl told me, biting into the sandwich and then continuing, "but it was worth it. I heard your unreleased song before at the Drinking Days bar before and I wondered who it was. Your name rung a bell and I figured, hey why not go find her? She could be a great musical partner!"
I smiled at the compliment. "They played my song?"
The white unicorn simply nodded, swallowing the bite she had been chewing whilst talking to me. "It's really great. I was wondering though," she paused, seeming deep in thought.
"Wondered what?"
"If you'd like, we could make a collaboration and turn your song into a major hit at the next gig I get. Wouldn't that be so epic! I mean, you and I, traveling Las Pegasus, Ponyville, and all of Equestria! What do you say?" Vinyl sounded excited, placing her food on the table alongside the two empty bottles of cider. "C'mon, we can do this, I know we can. DJ Pon-3 and DJ Misty, traveling the world far and wide!" Vinyl encouraged me further and I realized, she used the nickname my father used to call me.
"I don't know Vinyl," I said with an unsure tone, "I have a job and I only wrote that one song. I mean, what could we do with it? Make a variety of remixes off a single song?"
Vinyl looked at me and handed me a small business type card. "Call me, and we'll discuss more about this. If you change your mind in the next few weeks, we'll be opening for The Wonderbolts here in Manehattan. If they like what they hear," the unicorn mare flashed me a smile, "we'll be heading to Ponyville."
"I'll ponder it over, alright?" I replied.
She nodded her approval and headed towards the door, opening it with her magic. She paused half way out and looked over her shoulder at me and said, "Nice meeting you, Silver Mist. I'd like to hear from you." With that, she walked out of my home with her glasses hiding her red eyes once more and trotted down the street and out the large gate, onto the quickly crowding streets of Manehattan.
"What am I going to do?" I asked myself, enveloping my satchel in my magic and placing the key card to my home, the stapler, tape, and the posters inside of it. "Maybe I'll do this," I concluded, walking out of my home and closing the door behind me. "Just maybe."
* * *
I was in the market, handing out posters to the ponies I believed were somewhat rich or completely rich. For some reason, I had this odd feeling in my gut it belonged to nopony here. I sighed heavily and gave up with just handing them out and resorted to asking many selling ponies permission to hang a sign on their stand. Most said yes, while the more grumpy ones were against the idea for customers just coming up to the stand to look at the necklace I had found. I found a few trees and stapled a few posters among them and trotted off. I had less than twenty signs left in my satchel and I decided to go into the Drinking Days bar to ask the unicorn bartender Lemon Twist to hand out the rest of the signs.
"Oh Silver! It's wonderful to see you again!" he exclaimed from behind the counter, his brown mane bouncing and his white coat and wine glass Cutie Mark visible. "How may I assist you?"
I smiled. Seeing Lemon was always wonderful due to our conversations being so entertaining and informative. "I found this necklace," I began, pulling out the remaining posters besides one and showing Lemon. "I can't find the owner and I have hung posters everywhere possible. May I ask you of a favor?"
Lemon nodded. "Of course, you want me to show my customers the posters?" he asked me happily, flashing his brilliant grin.
I replied, "If you don't mind."
"I would never mind. Your father was my best stallion at my wedding and not to mention, my colthood friend," he smiled and took the posters and taped them around the bar with his magic after he trotted out from behind the bar counter, even adding one on the door by the OPEN sign.
"Thank you Lemon, you really are a big help," I praised him with a goofy half smile on my face. "I better get going, I have to go to work tonight," I added, beginning to turn away.
"Why not stay for a while, catch up and inform me about how you're doing?" he asked, making me turn back around.
I shook my head. "I would if only I had off today. I'll drop by again tomorrow if I have the morning shift, I promise," I said, embracing him in a hug by wrapping my front hooves around him.
He returned my hug, nuzzling my neck and wrapping a foreleg around me. "Alright Silver. I'll have a light cider aside with a lime on the rim with your name on it tomorrow."
I nodded, pulling away and turned again, trotting towards the door. "I'm looking forward to it."
The stallion smiled and watched me go and I heard him mutter, "She's so caring and loving, just like old Dawn Light." He trotted back behind the bar counter and enveloped a glass in his light blue magic, returning to drying them off.
I smiled even more at this as I waved a hoof good-bye as I walked out the bar door, hearing the bells ring as I opened it. "I'm like both of my parents," I said to myself, my smile slightly fading momentarily but returning again. I kept a steady pace down the sidewalk and made my way back to my home, swiping my key card and walking through the large gate and to my home, unlocking the door.
I stepped inside, turning the television off since I forgot to when I left earlier. I flew up the stairs and into my bathroom, starting the water. "I will find the rightful owner of this necklace. If I don't, I will put it in a box and bring it to the Manehattan Lost and Found department," I mumbled to myself, stepping into the hot water. "Maybe they'll find the owner faster than I ever could."
