Spitfire left the locker room of the Cloudsdale Coliseum, pleased with herself. Even though the Wonderbolts were in their off-season, she still practiced for two hours a day to stay in shape. Today she had put in nearly three, and was ready to go home.

On the other side of the Wonderbolts training Cloudsdale runway sat a rainbow-haired girl, just packing up from watching a few Wonderbolts finish up their off-season training. Rainbow Dash was entranced by everything Wonderbolt. She had initially been exercising her own wings out of boredom from being stuck in Cloudsdale with no one to hang out with, flying by the runway when she noticed the Wonderbolts were training today. Rainbow was well aware it was the off-season, so she hadn't expected to catch a show like this! So she had stuck around and was lucky enough to have even caught glimpse of drills, routines and even the Wonderbolts Captain, Spitfire. Spitfire was someone Rainbow had great admiration for. Spitfire had everything she wanted in life, as well as the leadership skills, strength and skill needed to lead the flight demonstration team. Rainbow had a high amount of respect for anyone who had the determination and focus to hone a certain skill, like her and her flying. And also like Spitfire and flying. Then, skills aside, Rainbow had a thing for fliers. Being born in Cloudsdale, a fairly isolated community of fliers, Rainbow enjoyed being in the company of other pegasi. Rainbow sighed as she was just about to fly home.

Spitfire glanced across the track at the girl. This girl who had saved her life once and who was so loyal to her friends that she not only risked her life to save them on more than one occasion but had almost given up on her dreams to stay who she was. For reasons the fire-haired girl couldn't explain, she had a fondness for this creature. Her quirks and excitability were two things Spitfire found adorable. Beyond this, the girl's voice was funny and beautiful to listen to at the same time, the way it cracked periodically. And her eyes. God, those eyes. Spitfire could stare at them for hours if given the opportunity. She was never able to pinpoint what it was about this girl that captivated her so completely, but the eyes were her best excuse for the time being.

Dash was rooted to the spot as she noticed the red-headed captain leaving the base. There wa still quite a bit of security separating them, such as a barbed wire fence and a gated driveway, but Rainbow could see her well enough. And boy did she look good today. As Rainbow vaguely brushed that mental comment off, she studied the captain from afar, debating whether or not to go over and meet her at the gate. They had meet before at past competitions and royal affairs, and knew each other from the Wonderbolts flight school when Dash had been accepted into her week of training there. Dash considered herself lucky to be one of the few that Spitfire actually seemed to talk to on a somewhat regular basis, what with all the flight-related & and monarchy-related events Dash attended. And Dash really enjoyed talking to the captain. Although it was extremely difficult for such an avid fan such as Dash, once she got past her starstruck-ness, Spitfire was actually kind of fun to hang out with. Spitfire actually had a lot to talk about and was a generally nice person. She was, in Dash's book, about 20% cooler than anyone else she'd ever known.

Spitfire decided to see why the rainbow-haired girl was there. Slowly flying over, she saw disbelief on the girl's face.

'Still a bit of a kid, I guess,' she thought to herself.

"Hey, kid! What's up?"

Rainbow stared in awe as Spitfire landed next to her, surprised she had even been noticed. "H-hi! ...Spitfire." She stumbled out. Idiot, she thought to herself. "I watched your practice!" Dash was ready to smack herself at any imperfection in her words. Now she sounded like a stalker or something! But Rainbow Dash still couldn't stop a smile from having her biggest idol come out of her way to come talk to her. Spitfire was a little taller and a few years her senior, but too far that they weren't in the same age range, or wouldn't make good friends because of the age difference. Rainbow respected the captain all the more for rising through the ranks as quickly as she had.

Spitfire couldn't help but giggle at how awkward Rainbow Dash was when speaking. The girl didn't seem to be able to keep her thoughts in order, and that uncertainty showed in the cutest way.

"Oh really? Well, that's pretty cool. What was your favorite part?"

Dash's eyes were glazed over as her hero talked to her. Spitfire had even giggled like she was potentially enjoying Rainbow's company. Rainbow stared at the captain. Spitfire looked gorgeous in the sunlight. Her hair was standing up straight after having practicing for so long and so fast. Rainbow liked it. "Uh..." she stuttered. She had seen all of their routines and drills go by. And she knew what each of them was, being an avid fan and all. "The downwind speed drill was very impressive, but the 5 person tailspin at the end was my favorite." Rainbow answered thoughtfully. Spitfire pursed her lips as Rainbow demonstrated her striking knowledge of the particular weather patterns today and their drills. The downward tailspin was a custom Wonderbolt form used in many a show, where the participants would climb to a breathtaking height then plunge, wings tucked, to within inches of the ground then rise out of it. Rainbow looked back up at the Wonderbolt, hoping she had answered what Spitfire wanted to hear.

'Wow,' Spitfire thought. 'She really does pay attention to us, doesn't she?'

Now that Rainbow was staring at her, the red-haired captain could look into her eyes without feeling creepy about it. There was so much emotion in that girl's face: excitement, anticipation, maybe a skoche of shame...why was that? Did Rainbow Dash somehow feel inferior to Spitfire?

"Well, that's cool." The way the rainbow-haired girl's face lit up, she had been hoping to hear that validation.

Suddenly, the light of the setting sun flashed in Spitfire's eyes. Shielding herself from the blinding flare, she turned to see Soarin' gliding toward them.

"Hey, Spits! Oh, hi Rainbow Dash. How are you?"

Two Wonderbolts? Rainbow Dash was about to keel over. She couldn't believe her luck! Spitfire turned and greeted her teammate, while Rainbow stumbled for words. "Hi Soarin!" She said excitedly. She didn't put much thought into whether or not it was polite for her to be talking to the Leiutenant Wonderbolt in such a way. "I saw your practice." She glanced back at Spitfire, who was smiling, then got sidetracked due to the Wonderbolt's bright and lovely smile. And boy, did Spitfire have a nice smile... "Uh..." Rainbow realized it was still her turn to talk, and the famous, busy althetes were waiting on her, "You guys looked really great!" She wanted to ask why they were still talking to her. Didn't they have better things to do? But Rainbow dearly wanted them to stay, especially Spitfire...

Soarin' guffawed at the sight of Rainbow Dash staring at his friend.

"Well, thanks for that. I felt pretty great, you know?"

Spitfire rolled her eyes as Rainbow chuckled nervously. The Lieutenant turned to his captain.

"I'll leave you and your girlfriend alone," he whispered, an evil amusement in his voice.

The next thing he felt was intense pain as Spitfire kicked him between the legs. What he heard was her speaking loudly in order to get the attention of everyone else on the team.

"Yeah, Soarin'! Good luck with your ED meds! Maybe you and Rapid can finally get it on tonight, huh?"

A playfully evil smile touched her lips as he limped away.

Dash squinted as she tried to hear what Soarin whispered to the captain. She felt a little awkward that he felt he needed to whisper while Rainbow was around. But the younger girl immediately stepped back when Spitfire kneed her best friend in the crotch. Rainbow wasn't so dense that she couldn't see that Soarin had clearly whispered something that both upset and embarressed Spitfire, as Rainbow Dash could tell by the blush that had just begun to grace the captain's cheeks. Then Spitfire startled Dash with a loud, military-esk shout that made Dash notice the rest of the Wonderbolts fliers now leaving the base. Soarin limped away after that, Dash following him with her eyes as she was amazed further by the presence of the other Bolts. Spitfire turned back to Rainbow, still interested. What Soarin whispered in Spitfire's ear had been just a joke, but he was one of only a few people that knew. The captain of the fastest and best fliers in Equestria hadn't come out publically yet. Rainbow tilted her head, eyes back on the captain, sort of confused about her last comment involving the other Bolts. Their time together was dwindling, Rainbow could feel it, but she didn't want it to. The urge to ask Spitfire what she was doing next overwhelmed her, but she couldn't quite get it out in the presence of such a famous celebrity, "I- uh... what're you.. I mean... would you like to...?"

Spitfire looked curiously at the nervous girl stammering at her. Obviously, Rainbow Dash was confused about what had just happened and was trying to process it all. Still...

"Yes?"

Dash tried her best to look cool, leaning back on the airfield chainlink fence. RD changed tactics, deciding to ask the captain what on earth she was still doing here. Dash usually wasn't the most observant, but with a Wonderbolt she could transform into Twligth Sparkle. She was picking up all these minor details about the captain, like how she giggled at Rainbow's antics or the length of how long she looked at Rainbow. But being so dense as she was, Rainbow still couldn't piece these puzzle pieces together. "So where ya heading off to? Another Wonderbolt event?" Rainbow asked cooly, trying not to sound jealous or spiteful. Another she hadn't figured out what Spitfire was doing here, Rainbow could tell that she liked hanging out with the captain. And staring at Spitfire for as long as she had, she realized Spitfire was pretty easy on the eyes too. Rainbow silently hoped that the Wonderbolt would stay longer.

'Well,' Spitfire thought, shaking her head while smiling. 'That was about as subtle as a baseball bat.'

Looking back at Rainbow Dash, she found herself lost in those eyes yet again. Why couldn't she look away? Spitfire had always been intuitive, able to pick up on someone else's emotions almost immediately. With this girl, though, there was a lot to read at once. Her trying to look cool was too adorable and made Spitfire blush a bit (thankfully, Rainbow hadn't seen that). There was also how intently the rainbow-haired beauty in front of her was trying not to stare at her.

The captain also figured that, by now, she was being pretty obvious with her own staring and occasional giggling: a trait that had increased in its occurence these past few minutes. Had Rainbow Dash put it all together by now? Or was she oblivious to…

'Better to speak now, Spitfire.'

"I was actually about to go home." Spitfire giggled again ('Damn you and your nervous habits!'). "Long day, you know."

"Oh yeah," She gave a light laugh and flashed Spitfire a lopsided grin. Stupid Dash. The sun was setting. Where else was she guna go? Dash fidgeted heavily. But there was nothing really to fiddle with so her star-struck and nervous mind resorted her to playing with the fence next to her, which Spitfire seemed to briefly notice and smirk at. Why was she smirking? Rainbow wondered how obvious she was being at trying to ask out her hero. It had occurred to her that she liked the captain a while ago, after the many times that they’d met and meshed really well. And the idea that Rainbow Dash liked girls wasn’t a new one to her either. Spitfire was certainly attractive and not too far off in age for someone that Rainbow could date. But she was jumping way ahead of herself as a blush made its way back onto her face. Spitfire giggled again, but it wasn't a girly giggle necessarily, it was more of a tug at the lips and some turbulent, quiet breaths that resembled a giggle. But nonetheless, Rainbow realized she had somehow made the captain laugh. Rainbow Dash, while unaware of it, was becoming increasingly more and more comfortable with just the two of them around. However the idea that she was being too invasive struck her again. It was probably true that Spitfire was just waiting to go home and Dash was holding her up. Dash started to move aside after that thought hit her. Even while she still wanted to spend more time talking to her favorite captain, she felt bad for being in her way. "Well, me too. I was just- I mean, if you have to go.." But Spitfire was enjoying being around the little ball of spunk, energy, and talent decided to take a leap of faith, because she could because of her stardom, "Why don't you fly with me for a while, Dash?" With that, Rainbow Dash's face lit up with a wide grin, after realizing it was a real request. Her wings fluttered up and down and she squeaked an "Okay."

Inside, Spitfire was leaping with joy, though the excitement never left her eyes. Rainbow Dash had caught her eye back at the Young Flyers' Competition, and hadn't left her thoughts since. In the time since then, she had slowly realized that she loved the girl. Would it be problematic if she ever made the Wonderbolts? Maybe, but only if they were together when she did.

Spitfire had known she was a lesbian for years, having come out to her family in her teens. Well, maybe "come out" wasn't that accurate. Perhaps "her dad walked in on her and her girlfriend making out in her bedroom" was the best way to describe it.

Spitfire chuckled. 'His face was priceless.'

Still, there was something about Rainbow Dash that left the fire-headed athlete speechless. Was it her smile? Her laugh? Her eyes, definitely, but what else? Maybe it was just her personality, how upbeat and confident she was. One thing not well-known about Spitfire was how timid she really was. Constant nerves and stammering had been beaten out by forcing herself to jump into everything before the stress of talking to other people set in.

She was never able to do that with Rainbow Dash. For some reason, this girl--only a few years her junior--left the captain unable to speak and forced the dumbest out of her mouth when she managed to.

Flexing her wings, Spitfire hovered into the air.

"Alright, kid. Follow me."

She had no idea if Rainbow Dash was following her. All she knew was that her face was now a deep scarlet.

Rainbow was ecstatic! She had been thinking about asking Spitfire out, but through her stammering, she hadn't been able to, but it was Spitfire that asked her to join her in her personal life. She would get the time she so badly wanted to both talk to and not only that, but she was getting to fly with Spitfire! It was only in her most fantasized dreams that Rainbow got to fly with the Wonderbolts much less with the fetching captain that Rainbow drooled over. Wonderbolts were the stuff of legend to Rainbow Dash. Of course she had a crush on the captain, whether they were female or not. Then, Rainbow Dash wondered, was that all this attraction and infatuation was? Was she only interested in Spitfire because she was a captain? Dash tried to think, occasionally being distracted by the glory, strength, and precision that were Spitfire’s golden, angelic wings. No, Dash tried to convince herself, there was more to it than that. While this may have begun as a little crush on the most coveted girl in the pegasi race, Dash was blessed enough to have spent some time with her, and they genuinely hit it off. Rainbow sincerely enjoyed Spitfire’s company because they worked so well together, liking all the same things and both being athletic and both having a main interest in aviation. And the list went on. And Dash hoped that because of the all the time and talking Spitfire had spent with her, that the captain at least generally liked spending that time with her. Maybe, at best, she thought that Rainbow was interesting! Rainbow was giddy at that thought. But Rainbow Dash couldn't very well explain why today the captain of the best flight team in the world wanted to fly with her after she had demonstrated all of her faults at once: the nervousness, the stuttering... Rainbow wanted to do better, and she had a finite amount of time to do so. Regardless of if she was subconsciously doing it to get a leg up of Wonderbolt recruiting, she wanted to show the captain a good time. Above all, above being a captain, above being another girl, she was someone that Rainbow Dash authentically liked for whatever reason out of the many that she had come up with. And she was determined to show Spitfire that she was cool, trying so hard for her crush. So Rainbow put on her best face and tried not to talk about herself. But she couldn’t help but notice the little stammers that were attached to some of Spitfire’s words when she spoke to her.

Spitfire couldn't help but notice that Rainbow Dash seemed to enjoy flying behind her (Yes, I had to. I already had this one set up when they started flying) and giggled. There was nothing like knowing that her crush's eyes never left her, no matter what they saw. As long as there was a way for them to stay together for a while longer tonight, neither of them cared.

The flame-headed flyer tried to remember what had originally attracted her to this girl. Normally, she wouldn't have even made it onto the Wonderbolts' radar, but anyone who could pull off a Sonic Rainboom was worth knowing.

After coming out, Spitfire remembered a lot of shouting from her mother, who couldn't "bear the thought of having a dyke for a daughter." All that time, Rapid had started teasing her about the girlfriends she would occasionally bring home. The best day the young athlete could remember was when she accidentally outed him as bi.

Putting up with mother dearest was a necessary evil, as Spitfire obviously needed a home for the time being. After finally accepting that neither of them would agree, her mother moved out of the house, leaving her, Spitfire's, dad to take care of her and Rapidfire by himself.

Her father was always supportive no matter what either of his children chose. When Spitfire brought her first serious girlfriend home, he excused himself for the evening, saying he was going to the bar with some friends. Such was the routine for each of the following times a girl came around.

Spitfire's love life was turbulent to say the least. She never kept a girlfriend for more than about a year, and a lot of the shorter ones were one-night stands. Being a professional athlete, she never convinced herself that a serious relationship was even a remote possibility.

Yet here was Rainbow Dash, a girl who was obviously infatuated with her, and for whom she herself returned these feelings. Every time she, Spitfire, tried to speak to the young athlete, she was unable to put together more than a few words without stammering and hicupping over a word or two. She continuously blushed whenever Rainbow laughed, giggled most times she spoke, and got lost in those deep magenta eyes more times than she cared to admit.

The two had been flying for some time when a large cloud house came into view. Spitfire began to descend, noticing Rainbow Dash follow suit.

Rainbow had never tried to date anyone before. She had never really had time for it in her busy schedule of training and saving the world and all, plus she had never really been interested in dating anyone. The idea of possibly liking girls had struck her when out of the blue on day she had been introduced to a lesbian couple, some two girls she knew from school. Then, the idea had been planted in her head: that it was possible for two girls to be in love. And the more she thought about it, the more she realized girls looked cute to her, and she finally realized that this also rang true for her. And after the long time it took for her to come to terms with it herself, Rainbow finally came out to her closest friend, Applejack, who’d been thankfully supportive, being an element of harmony after all. But Rainbow hadn’t been so lucky at school and work, as she definitely looked the part of a lesbian and had been mercilessly teased for it in grade school. It was why Rainbow had been so hesitant to admit it to herself that she liked women, and even more nervous to actually tell someone else about it. Her parents hadn’t been an option to talk to because her father had died a long time ago and her mother deserted her for reasons unknown to her. Rainbow Dash was left utterly alone when it came to large life-changing decisions to make, with no parental figures to guide her. And so Rainbow had lived alone since she was eighteen, jumping out of the care of her aloof aunt only a few years ago.

Rainbow listened to the professional athlete talk and was fascinated by the insight she was given into Wonderbolt life. Spitfire talked freely and openly, feeling comfortable around the happy-go-lucky Rainbow Dash, even if her speech was somewhat marred by her cute stutter and blushes. The nervousness Spitfire was displaying was sort of uncharacteristic of her, Dash thought. She should know. She watched all of the interviews and press conferences and public appearances the captain made. And Spitfire was never this jumpy at all of those intimidating events. The ever-dense Rainbow Dash wondered why Spitfire was behaving like this. She briefly thought about she had acted in front of Spitfire before they had started flying, which had calmed Dash considerably. The brave, young, redheaded captain of the military’s finest fliers was acting like… like she was talking to a crush. Dash’s eyes widened.

But just then, Spitfire had swooped away from her, starting to descend through the thin cloud layer towards an upscale cloud home in a somewhat secluded neighborhood. Rainbow guessed they had reached their destination, and she was a bit disappointed about that. The two fliers had flown high above the normal cloud layer that made up Cloudsdale, as to be careful to avoid paparazzi that was out to get Spitfire. The Wonderbolts were most famous to the pegasi and the members of the team had to be careful when flying around their main cloud city, as anyone and everyone would be interested in what the head Bolt was doing taking a leisurely fly with another girl. Looking at the house, Rainbow briefly wondered if it was rented because Spitfire was hardly ever in Cloudsdale for very long. The house itself was very nice, paid for by the Wonderbolts best paycheck, and didn’t have many houses nearby. Rainbow was almost surprised to see that Spitfire didn’t have hired security as she was at that level of celebrity when in Cloudsdale, surrounded by pegasi. But then again, thought Dash, Spitfire could probably take care of herself.

They finally touched down on the foamy platform next to the front door. Rainbow wasn’t sure what to say. Will I see you again sounded too sappy she decided. Rainbow shuffled her feet, thinking. Should she ask if Spitfire wanted to hang out again? Or was that too direct? While she’d had a good time flying with the captain, she wasn’t sure how she was supposed to address her, mostly confused by her romantic interest in the captain. Rainbow made an attempt to speak before Spitfire went inside, “Would you- uh… are you free again sometime?” Rainbow knew it was the offseason, but she hadn’t the faintest what the Wonderbolt’s typical schedule looked like, yet she continued, “Maybe.. maybe we could hang out again?” She tried, blushing like mad.

Spitfire was taken aback by the sudden burst of, well, speech from Rainbow Dash. She seemed so unsure of what to say.

"Uh, I was actually going to ask if you wanted to come in and hang out a bit. Wait, did you just ask me out?"

"Uh.." Dash's mind was screaming 'yes! Of course I'd love to hang out with you', but she was able to get a grip and decidedly act cool. "Yeah, I'd love to." She crossed her arms casually. But then her hero continued. "Rainbow Dash, did you just ask me out?" She had to call out again to break the rainbow-haired girl out of her terrified trance. The confident captain had a smirk on her face, clearly finding Dash's sudden misery enjoyable. Dash searched for acceptable words, literally tripping on them as she spoke, squirming so much that she stepped on her shoelaces once, "I- I mean! No.. Wait... I just want wondering if you wanted to...hang out...? Am I not allowed... should I not have asked that?" Dash offered her a sorry shrug, unsure of how to treat the celebrity, holding out her hands, praying Spitfire would be merciful.

Spitfire was stunned. Rainbow Dash, a girl she'd had a crush on for some time, had just asked her out! There were no words to express how happy the Wonderbolt was, and the smile on her face could not do this feeling any justice. Rainbow appeared so ashamed, so unsure of herself, Spitfire's smile dissolved to a smirk, where it stayed when the girl in front of her tried to deny it. With Dash now staring away in self-loathing, Spitfire slowly moved forward until she was able to pull the shy girl into a hug.

After an eternity, the hug ended, with Spitfire pulling away, leaving a stunned Rainbow Dash staring at her. The flame-haired girl looked into those addicting magenta eyes.

"Yes."

After Rainbow heard that one word, she sprung back into life, regaining her usual energy and pride. "Great! Er- wait.." She tried to piece together the hug and Spitfire's 'yes', although she wasn't very specific. "... You meant that we could... hang out sometime, right?" Rainbow, being quite dense, had to ask to make sure. And then there was still the topic of whether or not she was still invited to go inside the Wonderbolt's house right now, after she had made such a fool of herself. But after studying Spitfire, she didn't seem too bothered by it really. She was almost... laughing at her expense! Rainbow narrowed her eyes, her facial expressions flickering rapidly through all of her unspoken emotions, starting to confuse the captain a little bit. Why was the captain still interested in her? She thought back to their talk during their flight. Spitfire had been stuttering like a little schoolgirl. Rainbow's thick mind accidentally stumbled upon the idea that... that Spitfire was showing signs of a crush!

Spitfire continued to gaze into her crush's eyes, giggling at the girl's naivety. Suddenly, something changed in Rainbow Dash's face: amazement flashed. It occured to the captain that the girl had finally picked up on the obvious hints she, Spitfire, had been dropping all evening.

"Yes, I guess 'hanging out' is one way to put it," she said through her laughter.

Rainbow couldn't help the characteristic "Aww, awesome!" That escaped her mouth. She looked excitedly to the captain, "It'll be so much fun, I promise!" She didn't have any intentions of boring the world-traversed captain on their first real time together. But then Rainbow Dash's thoughts switched back to the idea that Spitfire had just agreed to hang out with her, and not only that, but she made a joke regarding the manner of the 'hanging'. Was it really going to be a date? Rainbow swallowed hard. She suddenly really didn't want to let the captain down. There was a pause in the conversation as Rainbow didn't know what the protocol was to respond with, either to a Wonderbolt or a potential date. So to fill the gap, Spitfire casually offered to let them in, at which Rainbow buzzed, so exhilarated to be invited into a Wonderbolt's private home.

"So, you coming in or not?"

As Rainbow Dash made her way inside, Spitfire giggled silently. One thing she loved about the girl was her enthusiasm and willingness to say whatever was on her mind. Or was it impulse? Either way, Spitfire loved it.

Rainbow fawned over the interior of the house, wondering at the extravagent decorations--something Spitfire wasn't too proud of. She may love the space and the seclusion (and there was plenty of romm for any...guests she might have), but there was something that didn't sit right with her. The size of the house made her feel superior, something she despised.

But Rainbow Dash seemed to love it so far, and she had just made it into the kitchen.

"You like it so far?"

Rainbow was in awe at the majesty of the place. The outside had sported some classical Cloudsdale Corinthian columns supporting the awnings and structure of the house, but that was nothing compared to the inside of the place. It was gigantic on the inside but was decorated with more supporting columns dotted throughout the large room. There was a dribbling fountain of liquid rainbow in one corner, similar to the one Rainbow had falling off her floating house. Then there were the minscule decorations elegantly adorning the trim of the room, little carvings into the cloud walls that resembled an original piece of Roman architecture. The captain interupted Rainbow's thoughts about the interior design of the amazing house, "You like it so far?" Spitfire asked and Rainbow looked up at her with glee. "Do I? It's great! This place is huge! And.. and.." She turned back to Spitfire, who was smirking, "And lovely..." She droned, looking right at the captain. Rainbow was about to snap out of it and dive into more specifics of what she liked, after Spitfire gave her a look. But then, the captain grabbed her arm and dragged her off to another room, "Come on," She spoke a little too excitedly, "I'll give you the grand tour!"

'Stupid girl, stupid girl!'

The tour lasted well over an hour, and by the time it was done, Rainbow Dash was fully distracted by everything she had seen. Spitfire hadn't been able to help her excitement throughout the time, speaking a bit too fast and mentally kicking herself with every other sentence.

The two finally made it back to the kitchen just after sunset, and Spitfire crossed over to the fridge.

"You want some food? You must be hungry by now."

Rainbow after having been towed around the magnificent house had worked up quite the appetite. And even though Spitfire had done most of the talking in the past hour, Rainbow had become increasingly comfortable around her, listening to the young captain babble on, and finding it actually kinda cute. Especially when Spitfire lightly blushed when she realized she was doing so. It was so different from the drill instructor she had trained under briefly, and the heroic captain of the Royal Air Force. And she liked it. So Rainbow happily plopped herself down on one of the stools at the bar. "Sure am!" She answered in her normal manner of speaking, having gotten somewhat used to the captain's presence, no longer sputtering in awe when she looked up and bam, there Spitfire was. "Anything's fine." Rainbow hopefully defused the some of the tension in the atmosphere, that resembled a first date, by being open to anything.

'Why can't you be decisive?'

Spitfire was hoping that Rainbow Dash would be in the mood for something there, but at least she was open-minded. The--she guessed she was now the host--went over to a cabinet, pulling out a box of spaghetti, looking to Dash. When the girl nodded enthusiastically, Spitfire started a pot of water on the stove. As the noodles and a sauce the captain had prepared were cooking, the two sat and talked, this time more about Rainbow Dash.

As the rainbow-haired girl talked, Spitfire felt more at ease. Getting to know the object of her affection was more fun than she’d ever imagined.

Rainbow Dash was again somewhat surprised to see that Spitfire's house was not staffed. She had no cooks nor maids like most celebrities did. But then again, Spitfire wasn't part of the media business per say, she was military and while famous within the pegasi race, she was no pop singer or movie star. Dash was just a little thrown off by difference in the atmosphere she was in and the one she had expected. As she watched the captain prepare their food herself, the more comfortable she got. The ambiance was inviting and relaxed, not what she’d anticipated from a Wonderbolt. And she certainly hadn’t expected to receive a hand-made meal from one of them. However, that’s not to say Dash didn’t enjoy it. She was aware that this visit was turning out more and more like a date, but she didn’t care as they ate their dinner, Spitfire nearly wolfing it from having practiced so hard earlier. But Spitfire seemed to genuinely listen to Dash and giggle at her smiles and jokes, which Dash enjoyed, as she bragged about her own heroic deeds in her hometown. But eventually the conversation unfortunately took a turn for the silent as both girls stared at each other, ending with RD looking bashfully down at her almost finished plate. Then, thinking now might be as good a time as any to slowly lean into the subject, Spitfire flickered her wings, and asked her a question.

"Rainbow Dash, are you--you know--into me?"

Rainbow Dash nearly choked on the bite of spaghetti she'd just taken, clearly surprised by this sudden turn.

Rainbow choked at the sudden question during the lull in conversation. It hadn’t been one she’d expected. Spitfire’s eyes widened as she realized she had caused Dash to choke, and was still coughing.
“Easy girl,” She said calmly, giving the rainbow-haired girl a tough pat on the back. “S-sorry!” Rainbow Dash sputtered. “Could you… repeat the question… please?” Dash stammered after getting her normal breath back. Spitfire gave her a little smirk, “Not if you’re going to choke on anything else.” Dash blushed madly, but said nothing, wondering what the appropriate response would be. Of course she liked the captain. And apparently, she was being really obvious about it. But… did Spitfire like her back? She did invite her inside and agree to the date. But was Spitfire just being merciful on a potential recruit? Was she even…
Spitfire leaned forward on her crossed arms. “Rainbow.” She captured the younger girl’s attention. “I’m sorry I just couldn’t help but notice.” She gave a brief glance to Rainbow’s puffed up wings. When Rainbow said nothing, she spoke again. “I didn’t mean to offend you or anything. If you’re not, that’s fine.” Spitfire shrugged. She wasn’t one to be naturally mean or invasive. She had just… had she read the signs wrong? No, she couldn’t have. Rainbow was looking down like she was humiliated.
“It’s nothing to be embarrassed-” The captain tried to justify not only if she had a crush on Spitfire, but also being a lesbian in general.
“Are you?” Rainbow suddenly interrupted. Spitfire waited for her to finish. “Are you…” Rainbow was having trouble getting the words out, being significantly reduced from the Casanova she usually was around her friends by being directly called out. But the captain remained unusually patient with her, wanting to hear her part. “… gay too?”

"Are you, uh, gay too?"

Spitfire was taken aback by this. Rainbow had just confirmed her first suspicion: she was at least bi, if not a lesbian. However, she had somehow managed to confirm her crush while trying to avoid the subject altogether. Forcing herself not to laugh at the cruel irony, the young captain looked back at her guest.

Without speaking, she got up, holding out her hand. When Rainbow Dash took it, Spitfire pulled her up, savoring the smell of the girl's hair and the softness of her skin. Seconds began to slow as she leaned in, beginning to sway to the music growing in her head. Minutes became hours as a pair of magenta eyes met a pair of amber.

Time froze as their lips met.

Dash's heartrate picked up dramatically as the flame-haired captain came closer to her, pulling her by the hand. Spitfire was known for being kind of showy at Wonderbolt events, but this was a whole new level. Spits had a wicked smirk as she was about to answer Rainbow’s question, having her assumptions been confirmed by Rainbow trying to dodge her original question. Rainbow had uncertainly taken the Wonderbolt’s hand, but she was reassured this was the right choice when she felt a warm, strong palm give her a encouraging squeeze as it reeled her in closer. Then, Rainbow stopped thinking all together. She had nothing to argue with herself about. She knew she liked Spitfire, so she wanted this, and despite being scared, she just fell into place as she kissed the captain back. Suddenly every puzzle piece fit together, even if Rainbow wasn’t thinking about that. Spitfire was obviously just as interested in her as she initiated the kiss. Rainbow Dash smiled lightly into the kiss as she had just personally comfirmed all the tabloids’ suspicions about Spitfire being a lesbian. She thought it was kinda funny that out of all the pegasi, out of all the other people Spitfire could just snap her fingers and be with, Spitfire had chosen her. She was at least interested in her. However, Rainbow wasn’t sure how exclusive Spitfire was, and where this was supposed to go. She hadn’t put much logical thought into her innocent crush. She wasn’t even sure if Spitfire was currently dating anyone. She very well could be, because the newspapers never seemed to be able to get anything on the captain’s love life, and now Rainbow Dash could see why. If Spitfire was already with someone, she was doing a good job of keeping it on the down low. But Dash realized that she was assuming the worst in the redheaded captain. Could it really be that Spitfire just genuinely liked ... her? Rainbow wasn’t really thinking while she poured all of her fleeting, passionate emotions into the kiss, closing her eyes and enjoying the smooth, tender feeling of lips touching her own for the first time. But the kiss broke off eventually, and Rainbow, panting with excitement and adrenaline, her little heart pounding, hoped to whatever god was up there that Spitfire wasn’t just toying her with her and that maybe, just maybe, this would blossom into something more. The rainbow-haired girl anxiously searched the amber eyes for an explanation.

Spitfire stared into Rainbow Dash's stunned eyes. Neither of them were sure of how to proceed from here. Suddenly, a clock rang from the living room. Spitfire face-palmed.

"Seriously? How long have we been here!?"

When the two looked back at the clock in the kitchen, they saw the face showing midnight.

"Aw man!" Rainbow Dash yelled. "How did we lose so much ti..." Spitfire gave her a slightly evil smirk. "Oh, haha. Right. So, I guess I should be heading off for home then, huh?"

The fiery girl grabbed her arm. "Oh no you don't. It's way too late...why don't you stay here tonight? I have a guest room." Spitfire smiled genuinely.

“You want me to… stay here… tonight?” Rainbow stuttered out. Spitfire had started rubbing the back of her neck anxiously.
“Yeah, it’s already midnight.” Spitfire tried to explain as she allowed the rainbow-haired girl some space to think it over. Rainbow’s immature mind was already jumping to conclusions though, and her wings were showing it, which Spitfire caught and smirked. “You can stay in the guest room though.” The captain reminded her, which unfortunately only intensified Rainbow’s blush.
“I-“ Rainbow Dash couldn’t find words to express her feelings at the insane request. She had been content to just excuse herself after the kiss to gather her thoughts. But now, that guest room sounded more and more appealing. Rainbow stared into the smiling amber orbs of the Wonderbolts captain, and slowly nodded.

Rainbow Dash nodded dumbly, making Spitfire burst out laughing.

After recovering, she looked at the girl's magenta eyes, noting the confusion.

"Sorry about that. You're just so adorable right now! Come on, I'll show you the room."

The two went up a beautiful flight of stairs, approaching a wide hallway. When they reached the third door on the right, Spitfire stopped.

"This is where you can sleep for the night. If you need anything, it's right downstairs, or you can come get me."

Rainbow Dash went inside, marveling at the elaborate interior of the room. It might be a bit smaller than the master--which she had seen during the tour--but never in her wildest dreams did she think this room might be hers for an entire night! The rainbow-haired girl looked back to Spitfire, who was staring at her with a smile on that beautiful face.

"What?" Rainbow asked.

Spitfire blushed, looking away. "Nothing. Good night, Rainbow Dash." She closed the door and went back to her room, collapsing on the bed before whispering the words that had been on her mind all night.

"I love you."

All the way up the stairs, Rainbow had numbly stared off into space, having to be literally towed all the way up by the captain to the just-as-puffy second floor, asking quiet "Really?"s along the way, and Spitfire laughing and answering, "Really." As they finally reached Rainbow’s room for the night and Spitfire deposited Dash there and said good night, Rainbow immediately felt lonely without her hero. After being kissed by her and after holding her hand, Rainbow felt empty in the wide room. She felt unsatisfied. She briefly wondered if Spitfire did this with a lot of people. The captain seemed so calm when offering Dash a room for the night. Did she do this frequently? Was Dash just one of those people that the famous Wonderbolt kissed and left? Rainbow felt anxious, so she paced the room, unsure of what to do or what to think. What is this? What was she doing? It was all bothering her and there was only one person in the world who had the answers to these questions.

Trying to calm herself down, Rainbow Dash looked around the bedroom. There were nice accommodations but it screamed fake to her. She wanted to be in a real bedroom. A nice, cozy bedroom with… Spitfire. Rainbow was uncertain of how to take the information that Spitfire had kissed her. The athlete never verbally said whether or not she liked Dash. Which just continued to lead Dash’s thoughts in circles as she came back to wondering just how many people Spitfire had kissed? Rainbow took a deep breath and realizing she wasn’t really suited for going to bed, glanced around the room until she hit a dresser. She apprehensively pulled open a drawer to find it was full of old, worn clothes. Figuring she had nothing better to sleep in, she pulled out a T-short and shorts belonging to the head Wonderbolt, assuming the woman who just kissed her would be okay with it. She took in the comforting smell of Spitfire on the clothing, which had probably been well loved. But Dash remained anxious. There were so many unanswered questions.

Barefoot, Rainbow crept down the fluffy hallway, fluttering her wings in anticipation. Noticing the room which Spitfire had shown her as her own had no lights on in it anymore, Rainbow was starting to feel this was a bad idea. But nevertheless, the brave Rainbow Dash tiptoed to the door and nudged it open just barely, the hallway light illuminating a strip on the bed. Spitfire groggily looked to where the light was coming from, already half asleep, being so wiped out by practice earlier. Spitfire lifted her head and blinked at the girl frozen in her doorway. There was silence between them until Spitfire asked, “Is that my shirt?”

At the nonchalant comment, the churning in RD’s stomach lessened somewhat. She shifted. “Maybe…” Spits mumbled an ‘uh-huh’ as she laid her back on the pillow. Then, in a sudden act of understanding and tired kindness, Spitfire lifted a fatigued blanket-covered arm up, creating an inviting cocoon meant for Rainbow Dash. However, the exhausted captain said nothing more, eyes closed again. But Rainbow giddily accepted her offer, suddenly crawling into the huge bed with her crush, and pulled the covers up to her chin.

But Rainbow kept her eyes open and staring at the flame-head, sleepy beauty. “Actually I wanted to ask you something…?” “You wana do this now?” Spitfire muttered, “It’s like 1 AM, Dash.” She spoke casually and didn’t actually sound mad at the girl at all. Rainbow inched closer. “Yeah… why are you doing this for me?”

'I was almost asleep, Dash. Why?'

Spitfire had been a bit irritated when she first saw Rainbow Dash in the doorway, but that dissipated the second she saw that the girl had one of her old shirts on. Why did she have to be too tired to appreciate how adorable that was.

'I’d better let her in,' Spitfire thought as she lifted the blanket, inviting Rainbow to climb into bed with her. The slight girl wasted no time getting in, and the fire-headed captain turned around to go back to sleep.

If only Rainbow Dash could sleep…

“Why are you doing this for me?”

The question stopped Spitfire cold. Had her kiss not been clear enough? She thought is was obvious how into Rainbow she really was. She guessed, knowing her history with women, it was entirely possible that Rainbow was wondering about Spitfire’s current relationship status or if she just kissed every girl she met.

The idea of causing the rainbow-headed girl in bed with her that much confusion and possible pain tortured Spitfire. She didn’t want this one to get away because of fear. Not again.

The captain rolled around to face Rainbow, staring into her eyes.

“Why?” Dash nodded. Spitfire responded by pulling her in for another kiss. This time, the flame-head ran her fingers through the girl’s hair, loving how soft it was. This time, both girls closed their eyes to savor the experience, the taste, and the love. This time, they took their time and pushed their lungs to the limit. This time, they held nothing back.

The kiss lasted for well over a minute before Spitfire broke it off slowly, gasping for breath. Rainbow was speechless, never thinking she would enjoy a kiss so much after spending most of her life in complete indifference to the idea. Spitfire stared back, loving the sight of the rainbow-headed girl staring. at her.

She pecked Rainbow Dash’s forehead. Pulling away, she looked into those addicting magenta eyes, smiling.

“Take a wild guess.”

The kiss was everything Dash had imagined in her wildest fantasies and more. It felt so alive. So much more vivid than anytime she'd ever imagined herself doing this. Dash took a deep breath once Spitfire backed off of her. They stayed close enough to feel each other's hot, rapid breaths sweep over their faces. Spitfire had told her to take a wild guess, so she made an attempt, “You…like me?” Spitfire just nodded, completely tuckered out. Rainbow couldn’t help the beaming smile that found its way onto her face, and she couldn’t shake it for the life of her. She leaned in a bit closer to Spitfire before she closed her eyes, “…really?” Spitfire giggled, having heard the same line a few times tonight now. She knew what to respond with. “Really.”

Dash didn't care about the closeness, finally happy to be accepted into Spitfire's personal space like this, like some fans weren't. Dash, in fact, enjoyed the little brush that she felt from Spitfire’s bare, smooth leg. And the rainbow-headed girl was turned on by the wingboner the captain was sporting just behind her. While tired, Spitfire had sprung to life to kiss Dash again, still not answering the question directly, but through showing her affections to the academy cadet, Dash got the message. However, Spitfire, almost ready to fall asleep again, noticed through half-open eyes that the younger girl was still quivering. Rainbow tried her best to hide it but she had another burning question she dearly wanted to ask the girl of her dreams, and she was afraid to ask, losing all of her regular bravado in the authority of her crush.

Spitfire somehow knew that something was troubling Rainbow Dash--and she had an idea of what it was.

"Rainbow? What's wrong?"

Rainbow hesistated, suddenly apprenhensive now that Spitfire had recognized her stuttering nerves. She decided she might as well ask now that the captain was already aware something was wrong, "Can I-" Rainbow looked away, Spitfire tiredly brushed her leg again, encouraging her. "Can I hold you?" Rainbow gulped, too embarrassed by the sappy request to look at the amber eyes staring at her.

Spitfire was shocked. Sure Rainbow Dash was forward and brave, but like this? There was never any indication she had that in her. The captain was surprised, confused, and above all, happy.

She was thrilled that the girl she loved wanted to be so close to her tonight. There were no words for how excited she was. It was beyond words, as was so much that had happened the past few hours.

Unable to find the words, Spitfire decided to respond by pulling Rainbow Dash into a hug, cuddling her and enjoying the warmth of her body against her own. After a few seconds, the captain found her voice again.

"Of course, Dashie."

Rainbow's eyelids were finally starting to flutter closed after she had gotten the best response possible out of her crush. She was content. Rainbow finally allowed herself to nuzzle into the captain's neck and pillow, their skin touching, after receiving the 'a-ok' from Spitfire herself. In retrospect, because Spitfire looked so pleasant now, she might've accepted Dash's hug without Rainbow even needing to ask. Plus on top of all of the amazing results from Spitfire’s response, then the physical contact itself, Spitfire had called Rainbow: 'Dashie'. It was the first time she'd heard her nickname on the woman's lips. It made her smile that the Wonderbolt was at least comfortable enough around her now to call her Dashie. Rainbow wrapped her arms around the lean torso. Then Dash just felt elated. She the happiest she had ever felt being with someone. The closeness brought on a whole new level of love. And she was just happy. Spitfire gave her one last squeeze before falling asleep with the fluffy rainbow-head cuddling into her.

Spitfire woke to find three things: the sun in her eyes, a wonderful feeling in her heart, and an empty bed.

'W-Was it just a dream?' she wondered. Suddenly, that warmth was gone, and everything seemed a bit darker. What if it really was just a dream, and she was alone once again?

Spitfire forced herself out of bed, slowly making her way downstairs in just her underwear and a large shirt. Suddenly, she saw a head peaking over the top of the couch, and soft snoring coming from the rainbow-colored hair perched on top of that head.

Spitfire giggled, unable to control herself. Maybe it was the humor of seeing Rainbow Dash asleep on the couch. Partly, it was due to how cute she looked there. Mostly, though, the captain was just elated that it was all real: Dash had really spent the night.

They had kissed and slept in the same bed--for at least part of the night.

Still giggling, Spitfire walked over to the couch, gently nudging Rainbow Dash's shoulder. As the rainbow-haired beauty opened her eyes, she was greeted by a soft, brief kiss.

"Good morning, sleepyhead," Spitfire whispered in her ear. "You hungry?"

Rainbow was stirred awake by a gentle touch. As her eyes fluttered open she was surprised by the vision of smiling orange eyes and hair. While not being fully coherent yet, Rainbow leaned upwards, quite obviously wanting a kiss, and was met halfway by the captain. Rainbow hadn’t really thought about doing it, she just did it. And combined with Spitfire’s pleased reaction, Rainbow was glad she did it.

Spitfire moved it close to her and Rainbow got goosebumps from her hot breath whispering across her ear. Rainbow vaguely heard the question, her mind still in the realm of sleep. She hadn’t slept for very long before she came down stairs in the early morning. Or at least, earlier than this. It was six and Spitfire was only up because she had been trained to get up everyday at this time. And now Rainbow was up because the redhead couldn’t resist touching her because she was too cute while she was asleep, which Spitfire hadn’t realized last night in the darkness of her room.

The captain stared at her crush. She cocked her head and wondered a new question: why was the girl even on the couch? Had the girl been uncomfortable and left? But why had she come all the way downstairs?

While Rainbow nodded and rubbed her eyes at the Wonderbolt’s initial question, all the sweet memories of last night came flooding back to her. She gave the captain a sudden goofy grin, which the captain softened at.

“Come on.” Spitfire took the girl’s hand and pulled her up. There was no way a potential Wonderbolt recruit was going to be sleeping in on her watch. There were only a few things that were drilled into her via RAF training, and this was one of them. They both padded on clouds over to the kitchen where Rainbow immediately found a seat, mumbling about it being too early.

"...too early for this."

Spitfire giggled hearing this from the girl seated across the counter from her. Only someone who hadn't had the military training she herself had endured could say that at 7am. Come on, this was late!

"Your window doesn't face east at home, does it?"

"No," Rainbow Dash mumbled groggily. "No one wakes me up this early either. Why did you do that?"

"Why did you leave last night?"

Rainbow Dash froze; she hadn't actually thought about why she'd done that. Honestly, she had really just been thirsty, come down, and forgotten to go back upstairs. What had she drunk last night again?

"Well," Spitfire said from the fridge. "I think I know why you came down last night."

"Huh?"

The captain looked back, smiling. "We're out of orange juice. I wonder who could have caused that..." She looked up and to the left, pretending to be deep in thought. Rainbow laughed softly; that face was too cute.

"So I'm funny now?"

Dash nodded, never letting her smile falter. Spitfire leaned over and kissed her neck, sending a shiver up her spine and down her wings. A small gasp escaped the girl's mouth.

The captain retreated, smirking evilly.

"Now you're hilarious." She turned back to the open fridge. "You good with eggs and toast?"

"Yes!" Rainbow Dash yelled a little too excitedly. She blushed madly. "I-I mean--uh--sure, that sounds cool."

Spitfire giggled in a higher voice than usual, and in turn blushed herself. Several minutes passed in near silence as she cooked the food, retrieving two glasses and a pitcher of apple juice from the fridge. When the eggs were done, both girls sat at the counter and ate in relative silence.

Rainbow Dash finished a few bites ahead and decided to get a small amount of revenge on Spitfire. She snuck behind the flame-head and pecked her neck several times. Immediately, the captain dropped her fork as a shiver raced up her spine and a gasp sounded. Suddenly, Spitfire whirled around, grabbing a surprised Rainbow and carrying her to the couch, both of them laughing loudly.

Spitfire was relieved to hear that Rainbow left her last night for such an innocent reason. It fit her personality, even though she tried to act cool. Spitfire didn't know why she'd assumed the worst in the situation, when all Rainbow wanted was some orange juice in a strange house, the light having woken her up.

Rainbow happily received the kisses on her neck and they fired her up somewhat. She waited until the best possible time to strike back, then leaned over to her captain and gave her the same trio of kisses. Spitfire was shocked by this and had reacted on a much grander scale than Rainbow had previously expected as the captain rushed her and swooped her off her feet. Rainbow was an easy feet for the Air Force captain to carry, being a light and agile flyer, even while the girl was kicking and screaming and laughing.

Rainbow Dash landed on the couch, after being lightheartedly tossed. Then, quicker than the rainbow-haired girl could sit up and utter more cheeky comments, Spitfire had climbed over her and then they were kissing. Rainbow let her eyes close as they nearly rolled back in her head from all the intense emotions she was feeling. The room was spinning and she was kissing her idol. It felt very genuine though. Rainbow could hardly assume that Spitfire was doing this for any other reason than she actually liked her. Spitfire remained very gentle with her; only placing little repetitive pecks on her crush’s lips, trying to be careful not to scare the girl off by being so bold on their “first date” and so early in the morning and sticking her tongue in her mouth.

A thousand things were racing through Spitfire's mind. On one hand, she liked Rainbow Dash. A lot. She wanted to see how far she could take things today, and if it ended--there--hopefully neither of them would regret it.

On the other hand, Spitfire had screwed up plenty of potential relationships by letting her physical instincts get away from her. With any of the others, she didn't mind too much, but this was different. Rainbow Dash was different. She was the first girl with whom the captain could honestly say she had fallen in love. Nothing would destroy her more than scaring this one off by taking things too far.

So Spitfire stuck to simple pecking and kissing. This could hardly even be called a first date--more like "two hands shy of another one-night stand." Was sex even an option here? It was obvious that Rainbow Dash was inexperienced, meaning she either had little to no time kissing other girls or that level of experience kissing in general.

Spitfire lost herself making out with a girl who looked up to her, and to whom she looked whenever she needed comfort and a warm feeling in her heart. Rainbow Dash was hers for now, and she would take that over any level of physical pleasure.

Spitfire found that all of this was new for her. For whatever reason, whether it was Rainbow Dash's cuteness or innocence or inexperience that made Spitfire mellow out, she couldn’t place it, but she was calm. She wasn’t called ‘Spitfire’ for nothing. But she felt no rush to pull anything with the girl. She was content with just being in contact with her. The captain just held onto the girl, afraid to let go of her petit form that she might lose her. Rainbow felt fingers massage little circles into her shoulders while she brought her arms comfortably around her crush’s waist, delighted to see that Spitfire didn’t leave because of it. Rainbow was so afraid that if she made the wrong move or tried to ask for too much, the captain would get offended and leave, but so far so good.

Rainbow, who’d never kissed anybody, was extremely absorbed in kissing the captain. She was heavily invested in the kiss, letting Spitfire know her emotions and intentions through the kiss. She was really surprised to find that this was what making out was, although Spitfire hadn’t really escalated them to the tongue part yet. Rainbow had decided a while ago that she liked girls purely based on a physiological standard. She just liked girls. In a romantic date sort of way. They were pretty and soft and nice… Dash’s thoughts trailed off. Girls balanced her out completely. And then, with someone like Spitfire, who shared the same interests and goals and was already well respected and loved by Dash, they were perfect.

Rainbow had never become physical with either sex though. So on the tangible side, Dash didn’t really know what she was aiming for. Did she want sex? She wasn’t sure. But in the presence of her hero and crush, it sounded really rather nerve-wracking. Rainbow was hesitant to intensify the current situation any more than it already was because she was afraid she wouldn’t know what to do next. Rainbow would just keel over and die of embarrassment if she didn’t do something right. What if she couldn’t even make it to climax? She wasn’t sure if she could or not or how that worked. Rainbow suddenly blushed a deep red. And Spitfire, fearing she wasn’t giving the girl enough air, backed off.

“Are you okay?”
Rainbow panted, forgetting her thoughts. “Never better.” Dash gave her a lopsided grin. She really was doing great. This was Cloud 9. She was just… worried. What were they even doing? Should she ask what this was? Were they going to date now? Rainbow didn’t want to be the one to ask about dating. It wasn’t really her area. And every time she got close to asking, her subconscious told her to hold back, unsure of what the celebrity wanted. Rainbow closed her eyes in exhausted frustration, sighing one last time.

“Spits?” “Yeah?” Spitfire waited but there was no response. She lifted her chin off the girl’s chest to look at her. Her eyes were closed, clearly still tired.
Then Spitfire asked quietly when RD said nothing, “How’re you doing?”
Dash smiled lazily and spoke calmly, “Awesome.”
Spitfire grins and lied down next to her, “Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
“Do you like this?” Spitfire was lying on her.
“Yeah.”

Spitfire put her cheek on Rainbow Dash's chest, savoring the sound of her heartbeat. This was the definition of bliss, and she never wanted it to end. The two fell asleep like that, basking in the love both of them felt.

Rainbow Dash was the first to wake, noticing the time: 1pm. Sighing, she closed her eyes, wanting this moment to last forever. At last, the girl looked down to see Spitfire asleep on top of her. The soft rhythm of the captain's breathing was like the most beautiful music. Rainbow could lie there and watch this for hours.

Slowly, Spitfire came to, drawing her eyes up to the magenta orbs staring at her. Smiling, she craned her neck and kissed the girl that was her pillow.

"Good morning, sleepyhead," Rainbow Dash said softly. "Good nap?"

"Mmm," Spitfire sighed. "Perfect."

The bronze-haired girl noticed Dash's eyes dart to the side, a blush appearing on her face.

"What's wrong?"

Rainbow Dash looked back at her suddenly.

"Huh? Oh, nothing. Just thinking..."

"Yes?"

"It's just...where do we go from here? Are we, like, dating or something?"

Spitfire lay there, stunned. She hadn't expected this from the rainbow-haired girl yet. In fact, SHE was planning on asking about that soon.

"Uh, I don't know...if you want to, we can," she offered with a smile.

Dash had honestly just blurted out the question. She was overthinking it and she knew it. And the only cure for that was to just blurt it out. Surely, Spitfire wouldn't be mad about it right?

She started it off easy, after being forced by the prying eyes of the captain to speak, “It’s just… where do we go from here?” She paused and thought, feeling a bit self-conscious. “Are we, like, dating or something?” She managed to stutter out. Spitfire just looked at her. Dash started to shrivel away. Maybe dating wasn’t the right term, maybe now wasn’t the right time… But she couldn’t help but think of all the kisses Spitfire had laid on her and had accepted from her in the past twelve hours or so. The young captain had even fallen asleep on her. Dash took that as a sign of trust. There must be something there.. The only thing was, she still had no idea what the captain’s love life looked like and it was the only factor making her regret asking her question in the brief time before Spitfire responded.

She was a celebrity. And Dash had never really dealt with anybody famous up close before. Did celebrities even date people? Rainbow kind of imagined them hopping around from one person to the next. But she really didn’t want to think of Spits like that. She… trusted her too. Rainbow looked away as she waited for an answer, but also noticed that the captain didn’t crawl off her in disgust or discomfort.

“… if you want to, we can.” Rainbow’s heart pounded as she looked back into smiling amber eyes. She even got a smile out of the RAF captain! Was this actually happening? It was all-too dreamlike for Rainbow to buy.
“…really?”
“Really.” Spitfire answered assuringly. The orange-haired girl shifted herself so her forearms were against the couch on either side of Dash’s head, and she gave her another sleepy smile, theirs features nearly touching. Rainbow was still stuck on the fact that the captain liked her at all. But as she came out of stupefied trance, a ton of new questions hit her.
“Will this… will us being a thing…” She was afraid to call them a thing, but then she remembered all that Spitfire had done for her, realization slowly seeping into her head. But she was still about to ask a pretty heavy question she wasn’t sure she should throw at the captain of the team while she was lying on top of her. But it had always been Dash’s dream to get onto the team Spitfire led and she had to know if that was being sacrificed in some way now if they were to start dating. “How will this affect my applications to the Wonderbolts?”

"How will this affect me becoming a Wonderbolt?" Rainbow Dash asked the question almost as timidly as she had asked her last question, but it left Spitfire just as speechless.

'That could be a problem,' she thought. If it ever became public knowledge that the two were an item, it could mean disaster for not only her own career, but Dash's as well. At large, Equestrian society was accepting of homosexual relationships--heck, Rapidfire's own relationship with Soarin' had gotten a lot of public support--but Spitfire was the captain. If she was involved in any way in Rainbow Dash's application process, the public would see it as favoritism.

'I'm over thinking this,' she said to herself, realizing that the girl below her was still staring up with worried eyes.

"It--It shouldn't be a problem," she said. "If we're still together when that happens, I'll remove myself from the process and make sure the public knows about that. I did the same when Rapid joined." Spitfire smiled warmly at her girlfriend--she giggled inside at being able to say that at last!--and kissed her briefly.

"It'll be fine."

Rainbow wasn't sure what would happen. She wasn't even sure if anyone was allowed to date the captain AND try to join the Wonderbolts at the same time. She nearly started biting her nails. It probably wasn’t the best idea though for her and Spitfire to go public if they were going to date. The fans of the Wonderbolts would end up accusing Rainbow of getting special treatment as the captain’s girlfriend, who had all the power on the team. Rainbow’s eyes widened at what people might think. Would they think Rainbow had done this just to get onto the team? Would they think there was some sort of sexual arrangement going on that Dash had used to earn her way onto the team? But she hadn’t even slept with Spitfire! Her mind blurted out as she blushed. Granted, it was only the first morning of their relationship.

However, RD wasn’t anxious. The Bolts were obviously in their off-season right now and wouldn’t start back up until after nearly a month or so of vacation. They weren’t recruiting right now, the academy had come and passed, and no one was looking at Spitfire. No one was accusing them. And Rainbow Dash, for the first time in her life, after her the words were spoken from the captain herself that it would be fine, felt no dying need to be on the team. It must’ve had something to do with how content she was at the moment.

She was a little torn though about thinking about Spitfire or the Bolts, because it certainly seemed to be one or the other. But in the golden-haired girl’s presence Rainbow settled for dropping the subject, thinking it was maybe too heavy for their first day as a couple. Rainbow had just wanted to know what she was jumping into. Because she was definitely diving into this relationship headfirst. She had barely put any thought into agreeing to date her crush because it was something she had always wanted to do. Rainbow, not uncharacteristically, didn’t stop to think about many repercussions or ‘if’s or ‘but’s. She just sped forward like she always did. It fit both of their personalities so perfectly to just race into this situation without thinking. Little did they know that their lack of thought would prove a worthy adversary in the future.

Rainbow was not thinking because she enjoyed Spitfire’s company too much. She didn’t do it on purpose. She was just… happy. And she happily accepted the few more kisses the captain placed on her lips before they started to get up. One of Rainbow’s arms that had been laid upon had fallen asleep. As they reluctantly picked themselves up, Rainbow glanced at the clock once again. 1:30. They had laid there and spoken vaguely about what to do about their careers and future careers for half an hour. Rainbow yawned. But then, something struck her. Rainbow had come up to the cloud city for a reason.

“Shit!” She mumbled, suddenly stumbling on clouds. Spitfire cocked an eyebrow at her. “Something wrong?”
“Yeah, I’m sorry,” Rainbow muttered, still looking away from the captain, searching for her personal belongings.
“Sorry?”
“Yeah, I gotta go.” The slightly frantic girl turned and noticed the disappointed captain still watching her, Rainbow explained, “I’m only in Cloudsdale for a few days. It’s for a wedding.”

"Shit!"

Spitfire's mind began firing a mile a minute when Rainbow Dash began trying to find her things. Why was she in such a rush? When the girl explained that she was in town for a wedding, the captain relaxed a bit, until her mind began working again.

'Wait...is she the one getting married? What did I just get myself into?' Spitfire couldn't hold back the questions any longer, and proceeded as calmly as she could.

"Okay. Uh, whose wedding?"

"Oh, um, my cousin. He's getting married tomorrow and the recital's in half an hour."

Spitfire sighed heavily, relieved that she wasn't someone's other woman...again. Her last girlfriend--well, girlfriend that lasted for more than 24 hours--had been using her to gain fame, money, and release other than that she had with her boyfriend. That bitch was gone after trying to blackmail the entire team: 20 million bits or pictures of the two went to the press.

The woman before that was genuinely nice and wonderful to be around, but married. Okay, so even someone who made a habit of sleeping around to avoid publicity had standards, and Spitfire dumped her when she found out. Of course, that relationship had lasted for about eight months, so it took longer to get over than the young captain ever admitted to the rest of the team. All Soarin' knew was that particular break-up was followed by a pretty sizable increase in the number of one-night stands Spitfire had over to her house.

Oh, Soarin'. What would he say when he found out "Spits" and Rainbow Dash were dating? That lovable lug was Spitfire's best friend,--probably because they had found out through an incredibly awkward night together that they were both gay-- and she put a lot of faith in his opinion of her relationships {Directly to you, Remy: (Call it a watered-down Will & Grace complex?)}. He had a way of making things painfully real for her, and she had returned the favor when he started dating Rapid. Soarin' had never really approved of her sleeping around, and made sure she knew it. Of course, he understood that she wanted to keep her love life a secret--mainly due to the fact that he was the only non-family member who knew she was a lesbian--so he never pushed for her to break up with (or get with) anybody. Still he he loved her like a sister, and only wanted the best for her.

'I should really apologize for hitting him down there. Maybe if I see him today?' Spitfire thought to herself.

"Your cousin, huh? That should be fun. Well, are you free tonight?"

Rainbow Dash looked up, having found everything of hers.

"Uh, yeah. Rehearsal should be done by 5. Why?"

"Oh you know. I was thinking we should actually try a first date. Since you're leaving soon, maybe we could grab some dinner tonight?"

The wedding, not to mention the whole wedding rehearsal shenanigan, was not really something that Rainbow was interested in attending. But familial obligations made her come up to Cloudsdale. And it wasn’t like she minded being up in her home city. It was the greatest city in the clouds, after all! And then all of this with Spitfire happened because she was here, so Rainbow took that as a plus. But it had also made her late.

Rainbow continued to rush about the room and scramble to put her sneakers back on when Spitfire had started to speak her again. Rainbow Dash wasn’t really comprehending all of what the captain was saying, although she knew she probably should’ve paid more attention. But she couldn’t be late to this dumb rehearsal. She was halfway to the door when Spits asked if she was free later. Rainbow cocked her head and thought about it. “Recital should done by 5. Why?” Rainbow couldn’t really process through her thick head why Spitfire wanted to know.

Then the captain told her that she’d like to take her out on a real first date. Rainbow stalled in the middle of getting ready to fly out the door.

“You- you want to- with… me?” Dinner sounded rather public and it was even Spitfire who asked HER if Rainbow would like to go out. The young captain must really be interested in doing this, blushed Rainbow. She automatically assumed that if they went out to dinner, especially in a city full of pegasi, that Spitfire would have to at least be willing to be seen with her. Dash just rubbed the back of her head, hoping that was okay.

Spitfire laughed at RD’s stuttering. “Yeah. Of course. Do you.. not want to go?” Spitfire questioned, suddenly wondering if it’d be an issue for Rainbow to make such a public statement such as being seen out with another female Wonderbolt. She didn’t want to pry her new lover out of the closest if she didn’t want to come out. “I mean.. we don’t have to go out-”

“No!” She was interrupted. Rainbow did want to do this. Dinner with a Wonderbolt? That was her dream for god’s sake, just say yes! “Dinner sounds great.” With that, Rainbow gave the captain the address of the wedding rehearsal if she needed it to pick Dash up. Dash also courteously offered to come back here, but Spitfire assured her that she could come and get her. Rainbow smiled. “I’m sorry I have to-” Dash tried to apologize again for having to leave as she was moving out the door. “Hey, don’t sweat it kid.” Spitfire grinned in the doorway, watching the rainbow-haired girl leave.

Rainbow stopped, seemingly deep in contemplative thought. Spitfire’s brow furrowed, wondering what she was doing waiting. Then, in a sudden brash move, Rainbow raced back and charged Spitfire with a quick peck on the lips. Spitfire stared at her, wide-eyed, not expecting Rainbow to pull something like that.

“See you at 5?”

Spitfire was still recovering from the sudden show of passion by Rainbow. While it didn't really matter--the neighborhood was used to various visitors and by now had no problem with the captain's love life--it was certainly unexpected. The way this girl had acted not only last night but today, she was too timid around people she liked romantically to act on an urge like that. Not to mention that Spitfire was usually the one who initiated anything romantic.

"Uh, yeah. See you then!" Spitfire exclaimed, putting on a warm smile. Rainbow Dash leapt into the air, shooting the captain a salute before flying off toward the bustling city on the horizon. The young woman in the doorway stretched; she had a long afternoon of nothing ahead of her, which included reservations.

Spitfire sauntered back inside to get dressed. Today was rather brisk and she had just been outside in nothing but a large shirt and panties. After selecting a baggy shirt and jeans from her dresser, she got to work on her hair: something she never normally spent too much time on.

'I might as well look decent for tonight, right?'

After placing a call to a small Itailian restaurant downtown to reserve a table for two at 5:30, she sat down and turned on the TV for the first time in days--ever since her last one-nighter had come home. The station came up as the local news, advising citizens of Cloudsdale that the Wonderbolts were on their 6-week vacation and therefore "Spitfire's romantic interests may finally be revealed, and we might know at last which team she plays on."

The captain snickered; the media ran this every time the team went on break and after every single show. They had all but convinced the public she was at least bi if not a lesbian, yet they speculated as if there was a conspiracy to keep it from everyone.

Suddenly a wedding was announced: Lightning Chase was to wed his long-time girlfriend Comet Blast the next day, with the rehearsal taking place in less than 20 minutes.

Spitfire's jaw hit the floor. Could Rainbow Dash's cousin really be Lightning Chase!? Like, Wonderbolt legend and the captain's personal mentor Lightning Chase? No, no it had to be the chick, this Comet Blast or something like that. But she had said "he was getting married."

The idea plagued Spitfire so long that the next time she looked at the clock, it was 4:35. Swearing out loud, she rushed out the door, forgetting to lock it.

The wind rushed through her hair as she made her way toward the address Rainbow Dash had given her, and found it just in time to see her date exiting the building, throwing a warm smile her way as she, Rainbow, flew up to embrace Spitfire.

Rainbow was bored out of her mind. Plus she had to wear this stupid dress. She had been recruited as one of the bridesmaids from being so close to her cousin. They had practically grown up together after Rainbow’s parents had vanished from her life. But Lightning was older than his rainbow-haired cousin, so technically, Rainbow watched Lightning grow up before her. He was the reason she became interested in the Wonderbolts. So really, she owed everything that happened last night to him. Inwardly grinning at the thought of her cousin, she looked up to watch his wedding rehearsal. Both the bride and groom to be were up at the podium now, and it had taken 2 full hours to get them there, including preparations like trying on the dresses and crap like that. It was somewhat of an official wedding, so everyone dressed up for the rehearsal too, and there was even a bit of press waiting outside to cover the details of the well-known couple.

Lightning was also in the Royal Air Force, but was no longer serving on active duty as Spitfire was. And after being noticed as a great flyer, was enlisted as one of the Wonderbolts. But after a short time of being on the team, he was moved to being their trainer. Lightning Chase had already become something of a Wonderbolts legend by the time Spitfire joined. And Rainbow wasn’t sure of details, but was aware that they had known each other for a while and that Lightning had been present when Spitfire was promoted to captain of the team.

After practicing saying the vows, and the ending ceremonies, and the dresses were placed back in storage, the rehearsal finally came to a close. Rainbow sighed in relief as she began to walk out of the building, walking next to her cousin. “So you’ll never guess who I ran into yesterday!” Rainbow excitedly told her cousin. Lightning trotted at a brisk pace next to her, also tending to his fiancé beside him. He looked at his rainbow-haired relative with a grin. “Who?” He indulged her.

“Spitfire!” Rainbow nearly shouted, jumping up and down next to him, now back in her casual jeans and hoodie. “Yeah?” Lightning tried to offer her interested glances while he was in the middle of making last minute preparations for the wedding. “You talk to her?” Lightning asked offhandedly.

“Sure did!” Rainbow said pridefully. But then she faltered. Lightning had always been someone she confided in. He was one of the few people that Rainbow had meekly told that she liked girls. And then he had hugged her. But they hadn’t spoken about it recently because Rainbow had no news on that front, having never dated anyone before Spitfire. However, she was hesitant to tell him that a former of his protégée had both kissed and started dating her. Rainbow gulped, unsure of what to tell him. She figured now probably also wasn’t the best time to try to explain to him that she had even gone so far as to share a bed with her, but not actually have sex with the captain.

Luckily, Rainbow was saved by wedding management. She let out a big exhale when her cousin didn’t push the subject, quickly becoming distracted by reception and catering details. Eventually, the small group from the rehearsal reached the front doors and pushed through them. Rainbow took a deep breath of fresh air and looked up into the clouds to see a particular streak of red descend towards the church. Rainbow grinned, forgetting her brief mention of said captain to her cousin and took off to meet her halfway, ramming into her with a hug.

Rainbow realized this might’ve been the wrong place to be so showy when the press was there to announce over the news about the wedding. They seemed to take quick notice of a Wonderbolt, and what’s more, a Wonderbolt hugging a girl. Spitfire returned the hug for a moment, before breaking apart. “Hey kid,” Spitfire greeted her before any paparazzi got too close. “Ready to go?” The captain asked, clearly ready to get out of view of the press.

“Wait wait!” Rainbow grinned, both of them still hovering above the church’s cloud lawn. “There’s someone I want you to see.” At that, Dash reached forward and grabbed Spit’s wrist, pulling her down to cloud level before there was anything she could do about it.

Rainbow guided them to land right next to Lightning and his finance. The former Bolt turned when Rainbow appeared again and looked stunned when he saw Spitfire standing next to her. Rainbow Dash beamed. “So I think you two know each other.”

Lightning had been slightly surprised when his baby cousin had actually shown up on time to the rehearsal. He was never one for romance and knew she was the same way; whatever he was suffering, he wasn't alone. His fiancé was worth every second of dramatic agony, though. Comet was the most amazing girl he'd ever met, and she really seemed to understand him. When he left active duty to help train the Wonderbolts he decided he could spend more time with her, and soon their relationship blossomed. Before either of them knew it, he was down on one knee proposing, and here they stood 11 months of endless planning later.

So when Rainbow Dash was able to chat for a minute after the grueling rehearsal, Lightning was more than happy to oblige as long as possible. When she revealed that she had run into Spitfire, his ears immediately perked at the fond memories that name brought to mind.

When Spitfire had first enlisted, Lightning had been her SS in Basics, pushing her constantly while acting as a talent scout for the Bolts, of which he had recently become Captain after only one season. Quickly, the fiery girl caught his eye; sure she was attractive--though not exactly his type--but she was one of the fastest fliers he had ever seen. She was able to adapt to any situation and maneuver in ways he'd never thought possible from someone as young as she was. Most of the higher-ups thought she was impressive for a girl; they had obviously never seen the Wonderbolts in show. Lightning's first season had pushed that military misogyny out of him faster than his own on the Academy Obstacle Course, and that was saying something.

Soon, Lightning recommended Spitfire for the entry exam for the Wonderbolts. When she passed with flying colors, he offered to personally mentor her to better acclimate her to the environment. The Wonderbolts never saw any action, as they were literally the RAF's PR division. Thus, the physical demands were greater; professional soldiers in the RAF needed to be able to fly consistently, but Wonderbolts needed speed, endurance, and burst energy: three things impossible for most people to balance. Spitfire seemed to do this with more ease than most of the team, putting her on the fast-track to being the Captain after Lightning himself left.

It took three years for the Generals to decide that the now-legendary CPT Lightning Chase deserved a promotion. Effective after the end of his fourth year as a Wonderbolt and only three as a Captain, he would become the RAF's youngest-ever Major. This meant he would leave the official ranks of the Bolts and be eligible for any desk job under Celestia's sun. Instead, he requested a spot on the training staff in charge of senior members: the Captain and his/her subordinates. The request was accepted immediately, and here he sat today. Spitfire, while not able to see him much, remained his best friend. She confided everything in him, and was one of the only people outside family she had ever told about her sexuality. The day she became Captain was one of the proudest he could remember.

Rainbow Dash was a different story entirely. He had known she was special since she was basically a toddler, her affinity for flight apparent even then. The two shared a special bond: both had lost their parents at young ages and Lightning had basically raised her since she was 9. As a matter of fact, he considered her more of a daughter than anything; Spits was like his sister. When she came out to him, he was beyond supportive, and told her he only wanted to see her happy.

So obviously, when Rainbow mentioned running into Spitfire, her instantly became curious. He suspected she had a crush on the Captain the way she leapt into the air after saying her name. Internally he was cracking ribs from laughing so hard. Outwardly, he simply shot her a smirk.

"You talk to her?"

"Sure did!"

Lightning scoffed. He only hoped that, if they did end up dating, they took things slow. He knew Spitfire had slept around, but to his knowledge that had stopped about a year previously. Rainbow had never really dated--save the occasional fantasy romance--and didn't seem like the kind of girl who would want that relationship. Maybe it was just his overprotective instinct taking over; that was something he hoped would disappear when--sorry, IF-- he had any kids with Comet. He decided not t push for information; she would tell him when she was ready. When the same pesky ladies came up to ask him how far apart he wanted the chocolate-covered strawberries, he saw Rainbow Dash exhale slightly, causing him to chuckle a bit. As the leeches wandered off, the little party of soon-to-be-relatives stepped out into the open to reveal about six paps with cameras waiting to ask Lightning about the wedding and why half of Cloudsdale wasn't invited.

Suddenly, Lightning looked up to see Spitfire hovering nearby, and a broad smile laced with confusion grew on his face. Had she come here to see him, or--

Rainbow Dash zipped into the air and hugged the Captain...in front of Lightning, Comet, and half a dozen paparazzi.

'Well, I guess they're either dating or sleeping together,' he thought to himself.

Suddenly Rainbow pulled Spitfire down by the arms to the cloud on which the small church was perched. Lightning, who had been talking to Comet softly, turned, a look of false surprise on his features.

'Definitely a new couple about to go on their first date.' Lightning recognized the signs, a knowing smile affixed to his slim face.

"So I think you two know each other," Rainbow Dash said, beaming between the two old friends.

Spitfire was the first to speak. "Do we ever! It's been too long Light. How are you?"

Lightning pulled the fiery girl into a firm hug.

"I'm great Spits. How about yourself?"

"Doing pretty damn good." She gestured to the paparazzi, sending a telepathic plea for help from the ensuing media scandal. Lightning smirked and nodded.

"So, my pinhead of a cousin keeping you company? I forgot to ask her how the interview went. And sorry about that. I asked her to give you a hug from me the next time she saw you, and I guess she took it literally." He shot a cursory glance to the media hounds, noting the looks of understanding on their faces as a few of them crossed out notes they'd been jotting down.

'That's right. Buy the bullshit.'

"Oh that's fine," Spitfire chimed in. "We were just about to go and have a team dinner. You game?"

Lightning shot her a 'First date?' look that she immediately responded to with a nod. He hissed slightly.

"You know, if I go anywhere tonight, my friends are gonna kill me. I have the bachelor party in an hour."

"Oh, okay. Well, we'd better get going. Rainbow Dash, you coming?"

Rainbow hugged her cousin one last time before taking off with Spitfire toward downtown, leaving the young man and his fiancé to deal with the paps.

Once the church was out of sight, the young couple ducked behind a small building and embraced, their lips meeting briefly before Spitfire spoke.

"Don't do that again," she said, her laughter betraying the serious tone she was trying to keep. "I've worked pretty hard to keep my personal life out of the media, and I don't want that to cha-HANGE!" She gasped mid-sentence as Rainbow kissed her neck. The younger flier pulled back, looking her new girlfriend in the eye.

"I'm sorry, but I couldn't resist it. You were the best thing I'd seen in hours," she stated simply, making Spitfire blush. "I can't help it that you're so adorable."

"Stop it or I won't be responsible for what happens back here. We have reservations in twenty minutes."

"Ooh! Where are we eating?"

"A small place downtown called Café Itailiano. It's small enough that I won't be recognized, and we can eat in relative peace. That sound good to you?"

Rainbow was stunned once Spitfire and Lightning hit it off chatting, and as soon as they did, Lightning had dropped a joke on her behalf. Not only had her cousin just called her a pinhead in front of her crush, but he also just saved their asses from being torn apart by the media. Rainbow had rather thoughtlessly jumped at the sight of her new girlfriend after such a long and daunting rehearsal. Her eyes slowly widened as she understood the implications of her actions as she watched Lightning’s and Spit’s silent understanding as they fabricated some quick story.

Rainbow’s heartrate increased when she wondered how much Lightning Chase actually understood about them. He was clearly willing to help make up a story for them. But she imagined he was only covering for her actions because it would look bad for Spitfire anyway, and not because he assumed they were already a couple. Rainbow was barely aware of the few, little nods and facial quirks the two gave each other.

RD snickered when their conversation appeared to be winding down and Lightning told them that his bachelor party was coming up. She hugged and waved to him, then told him to have fun as her date coaxed her to get going.

Both girls took to the air and started to fly away from the church after they were done feeding their lies to the press. Rainbow quickly let her mistake go as she was pulled behind the next cloud structure and they kissed. Dash hummed against the soft lips that somewhat forcefully collided with hers. They broke apart and Spitfire chided her about her actions. Rainbow understood her words, but being slightly dazed from the sudden kiss and comfortable from Spitfire chuckling about what had just happened, RD found herself leaning in again and placing her lips over apparently sensitive skin.

Spitfire’s words suddenly became shrill when petit lips made contact with and skimmed along her neck. Rainbow tried to explain herself but ended up grinning at the young captain’s blush she caused.

“Stop it or I won’t be responsible for what happens back here.” Spitfire being the ever responsible captain she was. Dash gave her a fake shocked look and lightly punched the girl’s arm.

But Dash was excited their date was about to start. She had never been on a date before. “Ooh! Where are we eating?” Spitfire described the place, and at the mention that they would most likely be left alone due to the small size of the place, Rainbow smiled. That was just what she wanted. She gingerly reached forward and loosely grabbed the captain’s hand. Spitfire allowed the action, and asked with a knowing smile, “That sound good to you?”

“Sounds awesome.” Rainbow whispered as both girls began to lean in again for a simple kiss.

Finally, they left the alley, after checking no one had followed them from the church, took off heading up through multiple clouds layers to get to a secluded cloudbank in the stratosphere. They landed on a permanently placed bundle of cirrus clouds where Café Itailiano was located. While the place was small, as soon as they walked in, Rainbow could tell that it was still an expensive little restaurant as the clouds offered an authentic Italian feeling out of cloud carvings and décor. The atmosphere seemed fancy and the furniture looked classy and even the customers seemed rather posh. However, that didn’t stop the classical Italian homey feeling. Even all in white, the restaurant showcased shapes specific to the Italian culture. It was something only pegasi would notice. Having grown up in the blindingly bland color scheme of clouds, most pegasi had an eye for the immediately figuring out the contours of things, instead of noticing color first. It was an odd skill that wasn’t very useful for much, but was something imbedded into the minds of Cloudsdalites, such as Spitfire and Rainbow herself.

The girls arrived at the podium and the waiter working there recognized the Wonderbolt immediately. Regardless of whatever restaurant they went to, as long as they were in Cloudsdale, Spitfire would probably be spotted by some fan. But he caused no trouble as he greeted them excitedly, “Hello! How may I help you Miss Spitfire?” Spitfire internally rolled her eyes, but appreciated the help. “We have reservations for 5:30.” She said. The waiter nodded a little too enthusiastically. “Right this way. The two girls were led to a condensed water vapor table and sat down. They ordered their drinks and their server left them without a hassle.

The two girls finally relaxed at the table, free from the public eye, as the restaurant was not very crowded. Rainbow grinned at her companion across the white, slightly puffy table. “So,” Rainbow drawled, propping her elbow on the table and resting a cheek on it. “Team dinner, huh?”

"How may I help you, Ms. Spitfire?"

'There's always one,' the captain thought as she metaphorically rolled her eyes. No matter where she went, at least one person recognized her even out of uniform. This kid seemed harmless enough, so she paid him no mind, informing the waiter of her reservation. He enthusiastically led the young couple to their table and they sat down in the plush chairs.

Looking around Spitfire found the atmosphere even more enjoyable than usual, and the company might have had a hand in that. This was a great place to which anyone could escape if they wanted a date to go unnoticed. Not many media knew about this place and those who did were honorable enough not to go looking for dirt--that and the Wonderbolts had so much material against those networks they actively avoided Spitfire. Instead they tended to simply report on the known goings on in the team, never speculating on the members' love lives.

The young captain quickly scanned the small dining room. There were maybe ten others in the restaurant, if that. None of them seemed to recognize her, so if tonight could pass without too much being noticed, she would be very happy. Turning her eyes to her date, Spitfire found a smirking face resting adorably on a slender elbow.

"So, team dinner huh?"

Spitfire laughed softly. "Yeah, you caught me. I haven't actually come out publicly, and Lightning had already set me on that path. Now, at worst, people will think you're in the process of auditioning for the Bolts. No one really knows how it goes, so they'll buy anything."

Rainbow Dash blinked, still smiling. "Alright, that's cool. So how was your afternoon?"

"Oh, boring. After last night and this morning, nothing much was gonna seem fun anyway." Spitfire shot a small smile to the giggling mat of gorgeous rainbow-colored hair sitting across from her. "How was the rehearsal?"

"You have no idea. It was too boring!" Rainbow lamented, recounting the multiple run-throughs of Comet Blast's entrance, Lightning nearly falling asleep during the pastor's speech (Spitfire got a good laugh out of that; it was classic LC), and the couple stumbling through their vows three times before getting the procedure right. When Dash reached the short chat with her cousin, Spitfire perked up.

"...and then you showed up," Rainbow concluded. "And I acted like an idiot." The girl blushed.

Suddenly a different waiter appeared beside the two.

"Hello ladies. Have you two had time to decide what you'd like to eat?"

Spitfire skimmed the menu, quickly choosing the first thing that looked good to her. Glancing across the table, she saw Rainbow doing the same thing. The captain was the first to speak.

"I'll have the spinach lasagna and an iced tea."

"Alright, no problemo! And for you?" he asked, turning to Dash.

"Uh, how about the fettuccine alfredo?"

Spitfire snickered, an action that wasn't lost on their waiter.

"Trying to keep the first date quiet?" Still smiling, the young captain nodded. The waiter chuckled.

"I remember mine. We were the same as you two, and it all worked out fine. I'll put this in for you."

When he had left, Rainbow Dash turned to Spitfire.

"What do you think he meant by that?"

Spitfire giggled. "I know him from some actual team dinners. When he comes back with the food, ask him about his girlfriend."

Dash was wary of the almost evil smile on her date's face, but shrugged it off.

A few minutes and soft conversation later, the waiter returned with their meals.

"So here's your lasagna and your, um, noodles. I've never been able to say that."

"Thanks," said Rainbow. "Hey, how's your girlfriend?"

The waiter shot an incredulous look to Spitfire, who was dissolving into laughter. He looked back at the rainbow-haired girl, a smirk on his face.

"He's fine, thanks," he said playfully before jumping away. Rainbow Dash was left with her jaw hanging limp and her eyes full of false rage as they glared at Spitfire.

"So you knew that and you let me humiliate myself anyway?"

The captain finally calmed herself down looking her date in the eye.

"You know it was funny, and I made the same mistake the first time I met him. Don't mind it; he's amazing and you'd be lucky to find a sassier guy in all of Cloudsdale. Now eat."

Rainbow sighed with a chuckle--it had been pretty funny--and sat up to eat.

Rainbow was good at understanding humor. She could laugh at herself every once and a while. She and Pinkie played pranks on each other all the time, and she could respect a good joke, especially when it related to her own situation like this one did. Rainbow Dash also laughed when Spitfire called the guy sassy. She was right: it was funny.
Rainbow was surprised that Spitfire knew their waiter in the first place, but thinking about it more, found it cool that she knew other homosexuals. Even Spitfire’s brother, Rapid and Soarin were still a controversy and while there were a few magazines that came out with them featured as a couple, it was still unsure. However, she was aware that the team, Rapid and Soarin included supported homosexuality and that’s what made them such a hot topic. RD focused on eating her noodles, still feeling slightly embarrassed that she ordered them in such a fancy establishment. There was a few minutes of comfortable silence while both of them ate before either said anything.

“So,” Rainbow started, eager to talk to and learn about the Wonderbolt. “You and Lightning are close, huh?” She figured that would be a good start to the conversation, after seeing them interact and hug, but she still had little to no knowledge of Lightning and the team. “I barely get to hear anything about you guys from him. Either he’s away, or I’m away, or something like that.” Spitfire laughed in understanding. Rainbow wasn’t sure about Lightning’s relations with the rest of the team because he rarely talked about them even when he did talk about work. He usually had some new trick up his sleeve to talk about with Dash.

“Yeah,” Spitfire droned, thinking about how to start this. “He was my mentor for a long time and helped me get promoted to captain. I took his spot after he was captain of the team for a year.” Spitfire started to explain in brief. Rainbow nodded, knowing this snippet of team history.

Rainbow listened to the captain tell about how they got started together, Lightning training her in Basic and once she got inside the Bolts and how he kept her in top condition. He had even stayed with her and kept her calm for the first show she was supposed to command as captain. It was a much more demanding and different job flying as commanding officer instead of flying slot or wing or solo. In the number one position, you had to lead the team, lead every display without error, and demonstrate the raw wing power that was expected of the RAF. You were suddenly in charge and couldn’t rely on anyone else. And Rainbow was someone who knew that. She nodded knowingly when Spitfire explained some of the terminology and flight maneuver that interested both of them. She started talking about how her first show went and how flying as captain felt. Rainbow grinned in excitement at this new knowledge. Dash was thrilled that Spitfire wanted to share these personal details of her life with her. Rainbow just nodded and munched on her noodles for a little bit while Spitfire told her about the Wonderbolts.

And finally, Spitfire asked her a question. “What do you think about the wedding, Dash?” She asked directly, wondering how Dash felt about her cousin getting married. RD paused her eating and swallowed. She hadn’t really put much thought into what she thought about LC getting hitched. Comet seemed nice enough at least. And seemed to be a good flier, which was something that mattered to both Lightning and Dash.

“I think it’s fine. I mean, I’m happy for him. I don’t mind. I haven’t talked to Comet too much, but she seems nice.” Dash nodded, thinking. “But damn, that rehearsal took forever.” Dash groaned, still smiling underneath. “I can’t even imagine how long tomorrow is going to take.” RD grinned across the table. Spitfire laughed at her showiness. Rainbow was glad Spitfire had a sense of humor and seemed to understand where she was coming from. It would be another long boring day with no date to look forward to at the end of it. Or maybe… Dash wondered if it would be pushing too hard already to ask the captain out again for tomorrow night. They weren’t even finished with their first date yet. But Dash was enjoying herself for the most part. After being slightly embarrassed with the waiter, Spitfire and her had seemed to hit it off again. This date was much more fun than the rehearsal. And then snuggling this morning was probably better than both of those things, although Dash would never admit it.

And then it hit her. She didn’t want to be without Spitfire for another day, plus Lightning was already close friends with the current Wonderbolts captain. Rainbow wondered why she hadn’t been invited to the wedding in the first place. “Hey!” She said, maybe a little too excitedly. Spitfire looked up quizzically from her lasagna. “Why don’t you come tomorrow? To the wedding I mean. I’m sure Lightning would love to have you there. You could come for the reception!” Rainbow grinned at her list of ideas, waiting for the captain to respond.

"Why don't you come tomorrow?"

Spitfire was stunned that Rainbow Dash would basically ask about a second date when their first wasn't even over. She couldn't help but snicker.

"Actually, Lightning already invited me a while ago. I was already planning to go." As she said this, the captain saw Dash's smile begin to falter. Thinking quick, she put on a broad smile. "But I'd be honored to go with you."

The rainbow-haired girl's head perked up, that beautiful smile returning with full force.

"Awesome! It starts at 2:30, but you already knew that. So who picks up who, or do we just meet there?"

Spitfire pretended to be deep in thought for a few seconds.

"Well, you already know where I live...if you already have a place to crash, you can come and get me. Otherwise..." She trailed off, waiting for Rainbow Dash to put two and two together.

Rainbow offered an embarrassed smile. She had asked on an impulse. And now that impulse was coming back around to hit her in the face. She should’ve guessed the Bolts would be invited, all lined up in military fashion because LC was an RAF captain. Dash just got thrown off because the Bolts weren’t at the rehearsal. Guests all showed up tomorrow.

Rainbow nearly smacked herself until Spitfire said, “But I’d be honored to go with you.” Somehow, Spitfire was still persuaded by her combination of excitement and stupidity to go with her. Rainbow looked up to meet bright amber eyes and fiery red hair smirking at her. Rainbow couldn’t be more delighted. A Wonderbolt, or rather, her girlfriend if this worked out, wanted to go with her to a wedding. That was a big date! And they could just as easily pass for friends there if they wanted. Rainbow Dash grinned. “Awesome!” She told Spitfire the details, then cautiously but not at all hesitantly, asked where they would be meeting.

Then, to add to her amazement, Spitfire seemed to drop a line from heaven itself. Was Dash reading her words correctly? Was Spitfire actually asking her to stay with her? No, she couldn’t be… could she? Rainbow couldn’t quite handle that level of savvyness required to keep up with Spitfire’s inquisitions. So she just started stuttering.

“I- I mean yeah. I have a place. Er… but I can pick you up though!” Dash tried to fix her mistakes. “Would that be good with you?” She asked quietly, not sure which option Spitfire wanted to hear out of her.

She eventually just settled for picking at her noodles again when the captain laughed at her. Rainbow blushed, half because she sounded dumb and half because she was charmed by Spitfire’s laugh and the fact that she was laughing at her jokes. Even if her stumbling over her own mouth wasn’t really meant to be a joke...

Soon enough, their meal had dwindled down, both fiddling with the last remants of their food as they chatted. The two girls talked for a while longer, leaning back into their respective booths as the restaurant started to empty out. And finally, feeling stuffed and cozy from the soothing, warm atmosphere, the two athletes were ready to depart. Spitfire insisted she pay for the whole meal because it had been her suggestion to go here tonight in the first place. Rainbow just blushed and fluttered her wings.

Leaving the restaurant, the two girls promptly walked right off the edge of the platform, laughing at each other when they began to slow down, expanding their wings. And catching a nice wind to breeze them along, they floated for a few minutes. They were still very high up and this area was scattered with only a few permanent cloud structures. This area was considered on the outskirts of Cloudsdale jurisdiction. Rainbow looked up as she floated on her back, a trick she had learned from Lightning about lift and how wing structure worked. Of course, the way wings were structured didn’t allow for this feat to last for very long, as Rainbow couldn’t support herself on the shape of her wings upsidedown. But before she left the comfortable position she looked up into the night sky, seeing a vast array of stars, with a colorful, milky streak running through them: the rest of the galaxy. She suddenly felt small compared to the rest of the universe up there where she couldn’t fly. With no more clouds above them and no city lights to blind them, the two of the them could see every star in the night sky. But glancing next to her at the glowing golden girl, Rainbow felt calm. If she was small in the universe, even if her role was a small one to play in the grand scheme of things, at least she was with somebody she truly liked and maybe even was in love with.

Flipping back over, Dash pointed out a small cloud in their path to Spitfire, hoping they could spare some time to just relax together.

Spitfire couldn't help but laugh at Rainbow's stuttering. There was a certain quality to it that she just found so simple, so amazing, so adorable.

Then again, the captain found everything about this girl adorable. She had stopped denying months ago that she was in love with the young athlete. It was around that time that she had, in fact, begun weening off the practice of sleeping around.

The two flew for a few minutes in the cool evening air, Rainbow Dash on her back, and Spitfire unable to keep her eyes off the former. Soon, Dash flipped over and spied a cloud below them. The athlete pointed it out to Spitfire and they dipped down, landing on it with a soft thump. Both girls splayed out on the small, puffy cloud, the captain sighing contentedly.

The couple lay in silence for a minute before Spitfire turned on her side, pecking Rainbow Dash on the cheek. The girl giggled, looking over and stealing a kiss from the captain's lips. They stayed there, staring at each other for several minutes before Spitfire spoke.

"This is nice. I like it."

"Wh-What part? The dinner, the cloud, the sunset?"

"Just...just being here. With you. It's nice."

Rainbow Dash was speechless. After only one date, they were here, alone and getting ready for a wedding the next day. Granted it wasn't their wedding, but it still sent butterflies flying in her stomach. She had liked Spitfire for so long from afar that it seemed surreal to be here now.

Spitfire was just as speechless. Her feelings couldn't be put into words, and she might never find a way to do that, but she hoped enough had been said through her actions this past 24 hours. Lost in the girl's eyes, she almost missed what their owner said.

"I-I like being here, too."

The young couple leaned in for another kiss, this one lasting for ages. The whole time, Spitfire felt as if she could die happy. She was with someone with whom she genuinely enjoyed spending time, someone she could spend endless time with. For Rainbow Dash the time never seemed to pass. In the minutes that she felt must have come and go, she realized something that completely changed how this moment felt.

She was in love with Spitfire.

She was in love with a Wonderbolt.

She was in love with another girl.

And Rainbow Dash couldn't be happier.

Something changed in that moment. Something clicked between the two girls. Everything just became... easy. Rainbow Dash was no longer just a fan to Spitfire, and Spitfire wasn't just an idol to Rainbow. Spitfire genuinely liked being with her. She said so. “Just… just being here. With you. It’s nice.” Rainbow felt her stomach flip. She felt lightheaded from the overload of emotions. Spitfire seemed like more of a close friend now instead that young woman she had watched all those years, but in some aspects, they were still distant. Rainbow just couldn’t wrap her mind around this happening. She had wanted this for so long that it seemed odd that it was happening right in front of her. Right now.

“I-I like being here too.”

They shared a tender kiss on their floating bed, laying on their backs and turning to each other. Rainbow wormed her hand towards the one relaxing over the captain's side, and grabbed it and held it.

The moon was out tonight, and this far up above the clouds, it illuminated them quite nicely. The stars were visible. They were extraordinary. Rainbow briefly rolled on her back to look up at them. Spitfire smirked at her, watching her. Dash whipped her head back around to look at the captain, narrowing her eyes, “What?” She smiled playfully. “You.” The captain told her.

Rainbow made an ‘ahh’ noise, shifting around on the cloud. “What about me?” She asked cheekily, inching ever closer to the redhead. They now faced each other on the small cloud. Spitfire grinned and stole a quick kiss. “Just that you’re cute.”

“You think I’m cute?!” Rainbow nearly shrieked, her pure amazement coming back to her again. “I mean…”
“It was a compliment.” Spitfire laughed.
Rainbow shrugged as coolly as she could. “I knew that.” Rainbow blushed and briefly tried to avert her eyes from her love. “I think you’re.. cute too.” Rainbow said quickly, a little bit embarrassed. But she sincerely meant it. She wouldn’t say that kind of thing to anyone else.
“Do you?” Spitfire would’ve crossed her arms if she hadn’t been lying down. Rainbow shrunk back with a deeper shade of red gracing her cheeks as the captain decided to mess with her.
“Yeah…”
“I’m glad.” Spitfire scooted closer to the girl, wrapping an arm around her shoulders, which Rainbow comfortably put a head on and turned toward her. Slowly, the couple leaned in, eyes closing, their lips touched. Spitfire felt a strong puff of air rebound off her face. Rainbow felt the mouth against hers adjust. She just followed the captain’s actions as best she could, opening her mouth when Spitfire did. And Dash felt comfortable. She felt comfortable with this person. She felt like she was on drugs, floating above her home city, kissing her long time idol and crush. RD just wanted to stay like this forever.

The broke apart, their chests lifting and falling a little heavier and quicker than before. Rainbow just stared and was utterly astonished and happy when the other girl stared right back. How was this possible? How was Spitfire so interested in staying with her? Rainbow didn’t have the answers. All she knew is that it felt great.

Spitfire was elated to be here. She couldn't say much about the scenery; that had faded into the background long ago. What kept her rooted to this place was the girl staring at her. Rainbow made her happier than anyone she had ever met, and there were no words she could find to express that. So the captain settled for kissing her.

It seemed like ages when they finally broke apart once again, and both girls lay there for several minutes, panting, smiling, staring.

Suddenly, Spitfire had an idea. A crazy one, but an idea nonetheless. She stood up, surprising Rainbow Dash, who stayed on her side, looking up with a concerned look.

"Wh-What are you doing?"

Spitfire reached down and pulled her girlfriend up. Kicking off into the air, she winked at Dash.

"Follow me." With that, she flew off, the rainbow-haired girl close behind.

Ten minutes later the two touched down at Spitfire's house, and the fiery athlete tugged Rainbow until she went inside. The young couple collapsed laughing on the couch and their lips met yet again. This time the kiss lasted for several minutes, both girls becoming more comfortable with each other, and when they separated, Rainbow Dash found herself on top of Spitfire. The rainbow-haired girl fell down on her girlfriend's chest, listening to a strong heartbeat.

As Spitfire lay there, Rainbow fell asleep, leaving the Wonderbolt to stare at her new girlfriend.

She wondered how this night could have been more perfect.

Rainbow Dash watched her new girlfriend abruptly stand up, wondering if she had done something wrong? Had she been awkwardly staring at Spitfire? Enough to piss her off or frighten her away? She didn’t mean to be. She was just so.. attractive. And hot. And lovely. And awesome. And Rainbow was… kind of in love with everything about her.

“Wh-what are you doing?” She looked up at the captain. Then, RD was suddenly dramatically pulled up into the air. She helped Spitfire pick her up by giving a nice flap of wings and then they were hovering levelly. “Follow me.” How could Rainbow resist?

It was getting cold out, the altitude caused its nearby clouds to be formed with ice crystals and the two young women flying up here got a face full of cold draft air trying to head to wherever it was Spitfire was leading them. So in an act of cold and desperation, Dash didn’t want to leave her date for the night just yet, she reached out and timidly captured Spitfire’s hand. The athlete in front of her slowed down, feeling the little tug, and in an act of mercy, pulled the little girl against her to warm them both up from the blasting cold they had to rocket through. Rainbow blushed but didn’t correct her. She liked this. They watched cities’ and towns’ lights go by down below, wisps of floating water zipping by, creating a breathtaking image, that both had been witness to all their lives. But for some reason, tonight, Rainbow Dash thought it was the best view in the world. She squeezed on the hand holding hers and inwardly smiled when she got a squeeze in return.

Finally, the same neighborhood RD had seen flying in yesterday appeared, some small lights tinkling in the darkness. Ten minutes into their hugging, icy flight and they touched down at the mansion again. Rainbow was surprised Spitfire had only wanted to come back here. What was back here? Was- Spitfire yanked her to come inside. Was this what she thought it was? Rainbow hesitantly obliged. She wasn’t sure if she could handle it if Spitfire wanted to start what Rainbow imagined she did. But she put a little faith in her captain, after how nicely their date went, even if the flaming redhead had embarrassed her a little bit, and how nice Spitfire had treated her. She trusted Spitfire to take care of her. As captain of the most prestigious team of fliers in all of Equestria, she didn’t seem like the type to lure little girls into her bed after being so passionate with caring for them and easygoing the night before. Rainbow walked back into the house and the two laughed at their chilly flight home, before melting into hot kisses.

They pushed their way into the house, Spitfire knowingly leading them back to the couch. They fell lightly on top of one another, chuckling and kissing each other’s features casually. They both took in a few deep inhales and exhales before Dash, on top, began to close her eyes, lying her rainbow head on the captain’s chest. She made herself comfortable and familiar with it, rubbing her cheek on it to find a good sleeping position. Spitfire laughed at her and she was quickly asleep.

Spitfire sighed, truly enjoying the physical feeling of having her love on top of her. But she felt Rainbow didn’t deserve to spend another night alone on the couch. There was a better place waiting for them upstairs. So tenderly inserting her arms underneath the girl’s, Spitifre hoisted her up and carried up over soft but dense cloud flooring. She was surprised that the girl stayed asleep the whole time, soft snores coming from her, and her cheek sleepily pressed over Spitfire’s shoulder. They made it upstairs and the captain laid Rainbow Dash on her bed. Rainbow was still wearing all her street clothes from earlier. Spitfire raised an eyebrow at them. “Spits?” “Yeah, Dashie?” “What’s with the pet name all of a sudden?” Spitfire blinked at Rainbow Dash’s question. Was she not allowed to do that? She was tempted to mutter a quick ‘sorry’ and hope the question went away, but she was a little stunned at the girl’s interest in such an odd subject. “Not big on those?” Spitfire turned her answer into a sly question, nuzzling Dash. Dash vaguely blushed again. In public, Rainbow Dash would never submit to being called someone’s honey or darling, but in private… “No… no, it’s okay. I was just wondering…”

“Alright babe.” Spitfire grinned and the grin was contagious. Spitfire explained a little bit further into how the pet names stemmed from her thinking Rainbow Dash was cute and quirky, only giving cause to redden the blush on her girlfriend’s cheeks some more. Kissing again quietly, the two girls decided to rest for only a half hour longer, now aware it was 10, before finally getting up, stretching, and making their way downstairs to eat something for breakfast.

When the girls made it downstairs, Spitfire crossed to her fridge as Rainbow sat down on the counter, crossing her legs. The captain smiled as she pulled some lettuce and bread, settling for simple sandwiches. She looked over at her girlfriend for approval, earning a lopsided grin that made her blush. Turning back to the counter opposite the fridge, Spitfire set the food down and, just as she was opening the bag of bread, felt herself pulled back and spun around on her heels. Squealing with laughter, she was met with a pair of lips against her own, returning the kiss her lover gave her.

After several minutes of—for lack of a better term—making out, the two separated, staring into each other’s eyes until Spitfire remembered why they were in the kitchen to begin with.

“Oh, food!”

Rainbow giggled, slightly embarrassed at her ability to so easily distract the captain. When did she get so good at being a romantic? That was something she had avoided earlier on purpose to protect her reputation. Then again, the same could be said for her being a lesbian.

Spitfire turned away from Rainbow Dash, still smiling, and put together two easy lettuce sandwiches, handing one to her girlfriend. The younger girl snatched the food quickly, and they bumped the sandwiches together in a mock toast before digging in.

After about five silent minutes the food was gone, both girls satisfied with the small meal. As it was only 10:45, they embraced each other once more, choosing to waste time in each other’s arms.

Neither of them could remember when they moved over to the couch, nor when Rainbow had fallen asleep. All Spitfire knew was that she looked up from her lover’s silky hair, in which her own hands were currently buried, and saw that it was now 11:30. Dash had to be at the church in half an hour! Spitfire gently nudged the girl, hating to wake her from the adorable slumber she was enjoying.

“Dashie?”

Nothing.

“Rainbow Dash.”

The girl’s left eye opened lazily, resting on the captain. Lifting her head, Rainbow smiled and pecked her girlfriend.

“Hey, Spits. What’s up?”

“You, hopefully. It’s 11:30.”

“What!? Oh, nononono! I’m gonna be late!”

Rainbow jumped up, rushing to find her shoes while Spitfire sat up and watched her, a small smile creeping up her face. The panic that had set in, weirdly enough, was too adorable. When the younger girl reappeared, kicks fixed to her feet, she caught sight of Spitfire’s smile, and looked back, slightly confused.

“What’s with the smile, Spits?”

Rainbow could hardly be contained as her heart fluttered from their easy and romantic morning. Feeling confident and euphoric, she grabbed the captain in the kitchen, turning her around and kissed her again. Spitfire accepted and they fell into a few more minutes of making out. Rainbow laughed when she was able to distract Spitfire so much that she totally forgot about making them brunch. After settling down and leaning against the counters, the girls ate their food peacefully, occasionally laughing at each other. Then, both still being at an all time romantic high from this morning’s previous events, the girls quickly moved into each other’s arms and then onto the couch. Rainbow Dash, being exhausted from earlier, was able to fall asleep fairly quickly after a few dozen kisses she shared with the redhead she was on top of. Spitfire absently played with the girl’s hair for a little while until she looked up at the clock and mentally cursed.

“Dashie?” The girl didn’t even stir at her voice. But Spitfire had to get her up because she was needed at the church very soon. But Spitfire didn’t have the heart to shake the girl awake, so she called again. “Rainbow Dash.” The girl eventually stretched and looked happily down at her girlfriend. “What’s up?” Spitfire told her the time and Dash swore because of it, instantly scrambling off the couch. Already being dressed in her street clothes from after her shower, all Rainbow had to do was locate her shoes, as her bridesmaid dress was already waiting for her at the church. Spitfire sat up slowly, watching the poor kid run around her house, as a grin crept onto her face. Dash finally got everything of hers ready after darting around. Then she noticed Spitfire hadn’t gotten off the couch and had a wide grin across her face. “What’s with the smile, Spits?” RD asked as she leaned over the couch, allowing herself just an extra moment to say goodbye to her girlfriend. Spitfire met the rainbow-haired girl halfway and their lips met in a sweet, simple kiss. Breaking away, Spitfire answered, “You. You look cute.” The captain produced a cheesy smile and RD blushed. The two still stayed close to each other though, hoping to prolong their time alone together. “Is this your first wedding?” Spitfire continued, realizing how little they actually knew about each other’s pasts, regardless of how well they worked together in the present. Rainbow shrugged, “Nah. I’ve been to others. Just never as a bridesmaid.” She elaborated, subconsciously mentioning that she must have a decent number of friends if she’d been to other weddings. Then Spitfire hummed in response and theirs lips met again in another kiss.

Then suddenly both girls were startled by a knocking that somehow was possible on the cloud front door. Rainbow immediately sprung into action again, realizing that she only had minimal time to get to the church on time, although she wondered who was at the door. Spitfire also wondered who was at her door, getting up in her fancy dress as she opened the door, completely forgetting that her brother and her lieutenant were coming over to pick her up before the big event.

Rapidfire and Soarin stood outside her front door, each with completely different looks on their faces. Soarin already had his suit on and looked somewhat pleased about that, while Rapid had a tired expression on his face and held his tux over his arm, not wanting to put it on yet. “Hey Spits,” Rapid grumbled as the guys let themselves in, much to Spitfire’s sudden panicking. Spitfire remained like a wall in front of them, blocking their entrance into the house, trying to stall them. “Hey could you-” Spitfire tried to come up with something to distract her two closest friends from seeing her new girlfriend in her house this early. Unfortunately, out of the blue, Dash rushed through the background, heading for the front door to get to the church on time. And so Spitfire trailed off when she saw the two other Wonderbolts lean in unison to look over her shoulder. Spitfire sighed, while trying not to make it too obvious, when she realized who they were looking at. Rainbow, on the other hand, was throttled. Two more Wonderbolts had appeared! She walked up to the door in a daze, staring at the two snazzed-up gentlemen who were clearly also going to the wedding, as they stared back at her. Rainbow offered a nice smile and a surprised, “Hi,” But then she remembered she was in a big rush and still needed time to fly to the church, so she was forced to excuse herself, making Spitfire look even guiltier of having had another one-night stand. Spitfire smiled sheepishly at the quiet boys. RD was tempted to kiss her new girlfriend goodbye, but she decided against it in the presence of more people. She had to settle for telling the captain, “I’ll see you there!” And she bid a polite and excited farewell to the three Wonderbolts as they all offered her weak waves. Rainbow was nearly bowing in their sudden authority, apologizing for having to leave so rudely, as she took off.

'Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit, shit, shit, shit, shit, SHIT!'

How had Spitfire forgotten that Soarin' and Rapid were coming by to hang out before the wedding? They had talked about it at the practice session two days ago, including when they would show up. Now that she looked at the time, they were actually a few minutes late.

Then, as if that wasn't bad enough, the captain realized that Rainbow was still in the house, providing no argument for her commitment to stop sleeping around. That was something she had promised Soarin' about a year previously, and he had shown more respect to her since that day. Seeing the girl here now would likely upset the Lieutenant, and Spitfire wasn't willing to deal with the open can of bitch that was an upset Soarin'.

Trying desperately to block their path inside, she tried making something up. Just as she was going to make up a story about thinking she heard someone trying to break in the back door to get them to the backyard, Rainbow darted around her.

'Shit, shit, shit, shit, SHIIIIIIIIIIIIT'

If Rainbow wasn't so adorable, Spitfire might have strangled her for suddenly making a reasonable explanation impossible. When the girl left after a soft greeting to Soarin' and Rapidfire, the Lieutenant looked back at his best friend, caught somewhere between shock and laughter. Rapid wasted no time cracking up.

"Wow, Spits! You really wasted no time with her! So how bad did you blow it this time?"

Spitfire looked at her brother dangerously, and he straightened up, earning an amused eye roll from his boyfriend. Soarin' looked back at the captain.

"So yeah...what was that? Did you two, you know...?"

"Uh," Spitfire couldn't find an easy way to explain it. "First date last night...after the first time." She looked up apologetically.

Soarin' passed a pouch containing a small amount of bits to Rapid, who accepted it with a smug look on his face.

"Thank you."

"Shut up," whispered Soarin' acid in his eyes. Spitfire began to get worried.

"What was that all about?" Rapidfire was the one to explain.

"We had a bet on whether the two of you would get busy before or after going out. I bet before."

"And WHY would you assume that I'd immediately go to sex with her?" Soarin' gave her a look she recognized. It was his way of throwing the bullshit card with her. "Right...I was trying to take it slow."

"Right," Soarin' scoffed, rolling his eyes. "Can we come in now, or do you need to mop up?"

Five minutes later the Lieutenant woke up on Spitfire's couch, his vision fuzzy.

"Wh-What happened?"

"Spits kneed you in the crotch and gave you one hell of an uppercut after you, uh, well you know." It comforted Soarin' to hear Rapid's voice until he saw Spitfire sitting across from the both of them.

Soarin' bolted up. "Hey, Spits. Sorry about that comment."

To her own surprise, the captain laughed hysterically.

"Admittedly, it was a funny jab. I just lost it I guess."

The three of them shared a short chuckle before Rapid looked curiously at his sister.

"So, like, you two are actually dating now?"

Spitfire sighed, letting her head drop in a nod. The next thing she felt was two pairs of arms wrapping her in a hug; the next thing she heard was Soarin's voice.

"Congrats, hon. You deserve it."

"Yeah, sis. You've only been talking about Dash for...what, Soar? Two years? Maybe a bit more?"

Spitfire laughed. She hadn't exactly been shy with them about her crush on the rainbow-haired girl. Of anyone, she was glad they had found out about it, and also as soon as they did. It sure made breaking the new relationship to them a lot easier.

Of course, Soarin' still had to have his moment as a flaming drama queen.

"But I'm wondering. Why didn't you tell us about it yesterday?"

"Because we hadn't had our first date yet."

"Oh it was last night?" Spitfire nodded. "Well we could have double-dated. Or do you not like hanging out with us?"

"Soarin' I 'hung out' with Rapidfire for years and accidentally outed him as bi, and you're too much of a little bitch to be able to date...no offense, Rap."

Rapidfire chuckled, just happy that his sister was having fun at Soarin's expense again. Whenever that died down, it meant something was wrong with her, and it had been happening a bit the last few weeks.

Suddenly the clock chimed, announcing noon. They needed to be at the church in half an hour. Bolting out the door, the trio of, as Fleetfoot had once put it, "flaming, amazing queens" zipped off toward the distant bells.

Rainbow was still stuck in awe after she jumped off the cloud perch that made up Spitfire’s “lawn”, and glided quickly away from Spitfire’s house. Spits didn’t have time to explain what the other two famous faces Rainbow knew so well were doing there, nor had she warned her in the first place, but Dash hadn’t minded the company anyway. She hadn’t even noticed how stiff her poor girlfriend had looked because of her sudden shock. Nevertheless, Rainbow flew towards the church with a stupidly happy grin on her face. While RD wasn’t aware of it, by becoming Spitfire’s girlfriend, Rainbow had unknowingly succumbed herself to joining the tight-knit Wonderbolts community. Little did she know, she would be seeing a lot more of those two around, as her girlfriend happened to be right in the middle of sighing at the idea of a double date. Rainbow skidded to a halt on the church’s allotted permanent cloud, her steering a bit off from not having taken the time this morning to correctly preen her feathers into proper alignment. RD guessed she had only minutes left to make it to the preparations to be able to get ready on time. A few guests were already arriving. So Rainbow rushed in by herself into the church and made it into a dressing area. Her Ponyville friends would’ve joined them at the wedding, but couldn’t make it up to the clouds for this event. So the wedding was destined to be a pegasi-only event. And she was already late to it.
RD quickly found the rest of the cast of the ceremony, who were already getting dressed up without her. Rainbow groaned when she was pulled aside by a distant family member of Lightning’s, and she suddenly remembered how much she hated dresses. Rainbow was pulled away in haste, being one of the only people who wasn’t ready by this time. Rainbow looked around for Lightning, but didn’t see him anywhere. So she figured she must be in the girl’s section as she didn’t see any tuxes nearby. Having not paid much attention during the rehearsal, Rainbow hardly had any idea of what was going on as she was dragged from place to place. Eventually, Dash was quickly sent into a changing room and she got her bridesmaid dress on, as much as she didn’t want to. It was grey so it didn’t detract from the bride’s pure white dress, appearing strikingly similar to Spitfire’s. Rainbow guessed that her and her girlfriend were probably around the same size too. Rainbow slipped into the petit dress, but the back still needed to be zipped up around her wings. So she stepped out of the little fenced area, holding her dress and trying to get someone to stop and help her. Rainbow looked around worriedly. No one was available nearby, and everyone else was running back and forth, checking on last-minute preparations and catering to guests. She supposed she was late beyond the point of receiving help. So Dashie was forced to trot outside the changing room and tug on a random woman’s sleeve. The woman turned and Dash hid behind the doorway, out of the view of the main church hall. The woman, who was a receptionist in the entrance hall, muttered an “oh,” when Dash presented her with her problem, if a bit red-faced while she continued to make sure the strapless dress didn’t fall down. The woman was willing enough to break away from her work for help zip Dash up. But she was careless in her haste before the wedding. And Dash yelped when she wasn’t careful around her wings and she ended up clipping a feather. Dash sniveled as she assumed it was nothing. But she made an expression caught between pain and shock when she tried to move her right wing, but found that it hurt to do so. Dash hurriedly extended the blue-feathered wing as far as she could, and craning her neck at the oddly bent wing, she saw the problem. She had snapped a bloodfeather. A single thick feather was bent and broken, popping a tiny capillary that ran through it, causing Rainbow to bleed out somewhat painfully. It was just an unlucky pick of a feather that had been damaged. It just happened to be a new “bloodfeather”, which was a still growing feather with blood running through it. Rainbow immediately tried to cradle the bleeding, cracked feather as it dripped red. A few tears ran to Dash’s eyes in distress as she realized there were already a few red drops on her dress. The woman next to her tried to help frantically by retrieving some paper towels and bringing them to hold on top of the poor feather. Pegasi wings weren’t especially apt at taking care of themselves, not being able to form clots in a broken feather, rendering the poor pegasus a bloody mess. It was like an open-ended vein, and Rainbow started to produce tears at the sight of ruining her dress right before the wedding. A thousand different problems ran through her head and she suddenly didn’t know what to do.

Spitfire and the boys, now both dressed up in their black tie suits, waltzed through the wide open doors to the church, chatting happily about a specific Wonderbolts practice, leaving the heavy relationship conversation for later. But upon entering the church, possibly a bit early due to all of them freaking out at Spitfire’s house to get here quickly, they noticed the wedding was still in chaos getting ready. Spitfire looked around, and eventually stepped up to a woman at reception, who was gathering paper towels. “What’s going on?” She asked, the church obviously still in disarray, thankfully still lacking many guests to notice however. The middle-aged woman stood up as she passed some towels through a door behind her to someone else. Spitifire watched the exchange with her eyes, cocking an eyebrow. The woman immediately recognized the captain and gave her due respect as she willingly explained the situation. “One of the bridesmaids broke a bloodfeather.” She explained. And Spitfire knew that must be a messy situation. She knew that those pinfeathers were new feathers that would eventually grow to create lift for the flier, but when broken could cause a big mess. It was actually something of a big concern for the pegasi race because if the feather was not plucked and applied pressure to, the victim could easily bleed out because the quill could not mend itself like skin could.

Not seeing Rainbow around anywhere yet, Spitfire volunteered herself to help. “If you want, I could take a look at it,” Spitfire mused, noting the pleading look in the receptionist’s eyes, and having some experience dealing with medical emergencies in the military. “Oh, would you? She won’t let anyone touch it. No one can hold her still.” Spitfire made a face. This suddenly turned into something oddly physical she really wasn’t sure she wanted to get into. But she snickered, reminded of the energy her girlfriend had, after spending nearly two whole days with her. The captain nodded, burdened by a chivalrous military code that prevented her from leaving anyone suffering. Spitfire briefly nodded to Rapid and Soarin who were now carefully watching her as she disappeared into another room. Her expression told them it was fine, and they calmly stayed put, making idle conversation with other guests arriving.

Rainbow was starting to feel a little lightheaded. What a stupid way to lose blood. What an uncool way to break a feather. She felt naively responsible, but mostly just embarrassed by the incident. And the rainbow-haired, frantic girl danced away from anyone who came close to touching her sensitive wing. It was so sore and just wanted the bleeding to stop dripping. Spitfire was led through a series of backrooms where all the wedding preparations were being held. And upon arriving in a large changing room ,there, having cornered herself, was a nearly sobbing, bleeding Rainbow Dash. Spitfire’s face dropped upon realization, and the military hero rushed forward. Dash wasn’t really crying out of pain; it was more because she had only minutes to appear live in front of an audience in a bloody dress. And then, she felt she was making everything worse as she made a bigger and bigger deal about it. So through slightly blurry vision, she saw familiar red hair and felt gentle hands grasp her arms. Spitfire was the only person Rainbow had let get this close to her within 15 minutes. Everyone watching the spectacle reeled in surprise, after trying to deal with the unruly and aggressive teenager for so long.

“Hey,” Spitfire soothed, realizing the best course of action was to calm her girlfriend. She herself had had broken bloodfeathers before, and knew for a fact they did not hurt this much. So logically observing the scene quickly, Spitfire understood it was the level of anxiety suddenly put on Rainbow’s head that was causing this meltdown. “Rainbow, it’s me. You’re okay.” She started, adjusting herself to the situation. Dash sniffed and held onto Spitfire, silently enjoying her sudden presence. Spitfire looked around her girlfriend, seeing the culprit of her misery: a purple dripping feather on her right wing. Calculating what to do with military efficiency, Spitfire softly told her girlfriend: “I’m going to pull it.” “No!” Rainbow whined, lightly pulling away. But Spitfire held her steadfast. “You’re going to be fine. But I need you to extend your wing so I can pull it out. Okay?” Eventually stopping her childish struggling, Rainbow slowly nodded and handed over her wing to the captain. Spitfire made an excellent nurse. She knew how to keep Rainbow calm. Her selection of words and sweet monotone had effectively calmed Rainbow Dash. Even if they hadn’t honestly known each other that long, and even if last night had been real, and even if they were now girlfriends, it was this moment that Rainbow suddenly trusted the captain completely. While Rainbow didn’t like having the feather touched or plucked, Spitfire assured her it would be over quick. And it was. Then Spitfire stuck her hand out behind her and a towel was placed in her palm, which she pressed against the sore wing. Then, in an act of compassion and comfort, Spits placed a kiss on the girl’s forehead, “You’re doing great, Dash.” Someone finally brought a first aid kit in and handed it to the Wonderbolt captain. She thanked them and they backed away. “I’m just going to wrap it now.” Spitfire explained as her girlfriend leaned on her quietly. True to her word, Spitfire searched through the kit to find some gauze, and merely began to wrap the spot, moving other feathers out of the way. But this action from the captain created a slightly intimate situation because pegasi wings were special, generally only touched by the owners themselves, universally accepted as a cultural norm, but the underlying cause being because they were sexually sensitive. So by the time Spits told her it was done, Rainbow was breathing a little harder.

“Now.” Spitfire quickly dismissed her knowingly intimate actions due to the time crunch and tense situation. She turned back around to the other wedding planners in the room. “Are there any other bridesmaids dresses she can wear?” Spitfire asked clearly. Her voice asserted her power, and she was able to order the wedding organizers around just by the sound of her voice. “N-no..” They answered. “There were no extras ordered.” Well then. Rainbow certainly couldn’t wear this through her closest family’s biggest ceremony. Rainbow was at least glad she had not seen the groom at all yet since she’d arrived. Rainbow was afraid she was already ruining Lightning’s big day with her stupid antics. Spitfire appeared to be deep in thought for a little while, still observing the scene. Then, Dash watched the captain’s eyes move from her own dress to Dash’s, then back again. Spitfire smiled, still holding Dash and giving her another forehead kiss as she could see how this was going to work out. “Here,” She said, already slipping her arms out of the loops of her grey dress unprofessionally. “We’ll switch.” She told her. Rainbow Dash looked at her for a moment, her tears quickly drying as she sobered up. Rainbow still tilted her head at the undressing captain, not entirely liking her plan. “… you’re going to wear mine then?” RD asked quietly, not yet stripping so maybe Spitfire wouldn’t have to suffer the humiliation of wearing her now-bloodied bridesmaid dress. Spitfire rapidly nodded at her though. “Yeah. It’s okay. I’ll be sitting down.” She clarified. But Rainbow still made no move to participate in this swap. So Spitfire stood back up at full height and reached for her girlfriend again. “It’s fine.” She brushed some of Rainbow’s loose bangs out of her face softly, relaxing Rainbow. “You’re the one who’s got to stand up in front of everybody right?” She teased, trying to lessen Rainbow’s humiliation for her sake. “And you’ve gotta help LC through this, right?” Rainbow actually laughed at that one when Spitfire produced a lopsided grin to go with it. “It’ll only be for a little bit. Nobody will even notice.” She referenced the blood drops that had now stained through the light-colored dress. So after justifying her reasoning, Rainbow moved as if she was willing to switch clothes. However, the girl still stalled. She shifted awkwardly as if she was waiting for something. Then Spitfire remembered her new girlfriend had a streak of modesty and probably wanted to change in privacy. So the older girl looked around and found a portable divider, and picked up the lightweight panels and put them between Rainbow and rest of the staring backroom. The captain herself joined Rainbow behind the portable wall, and smiled, then began to strip again, handing Rainbow the clean dress once she was in her underwear. But, even with minutes left until the ceremony would begin, Rainbow still looked sheepishly at the ground. When Spits asked anxiously how she was feeling, Rainbow just waved her closer. While the two were not too far apart in height, Spitfire still had to bend down to listen to Dashie’s whisper. She was clearly embarrassed when she told Spitfire, “I’m not wearing a bra…” She mumbled. The captain tried to piece together what she wanted, as Dash was not one to use overly-private words. “Oh! Yeah…” She realized that it was a combination of things that Dash was trying to tell her. The dress she was trying to give to Rainbow didn’t have built-in cups like Dash’s bridesmaid dress did. So assuming that Dash could probably fit into the same cup size as her, Spitfire unhooked her own bra and shimmied it off as she presented it to Dash. RD blushed, looking away sideways, but gratefully took it so she could wear the new outfit. Discreetly turning her back to get changed, Dash slipped on the new dress as did Spitfire. Dash could barely mutter a thank you to her caring girlfriend as this ordeal had shrunk her normal outgoing personality ten-fold.

Dash’s dress wasn’t all that bad really. The only real stains were the blood spots on the back underneath where the wings were. But Spitfire tried her best to be reassuring with Dash once they were ready to go out and face the world again. The captain put an arm around her shoulder and squeezed Rainbow when had to go join the other bridesmaids on the platform to begin the ceremony. The two shared a chaste kiss in the backroom with no one else around just before they had to part ways. Spitfire made sure she was feeling okay, with no lightheadedness or anything before she left. Then, the redhead walked back out into the main hall to find a very confused pair of Wonderbolts wondering why she was in a different dress.
