Twilight and her friends are attacked, half of her group kidnapped and taken hostage by a slave cartel. The cartel flees back to their home turf in the west of Equestria. Upon discovering that her mentor has no control over the untamed west of the country Twilight, Rarity and Applejack are thrown into a dangerous game of the law, criminals and murderers.
