From the Sky
Chapter 1
Load Full StoryA black void, not a single sound or speck of light floated within it, completely devoid of anything.
"......"
"What was that?" It's faint, but a whisper suddenly resounds throughout the void, not loud, just audible enough to be heard. "Just my imagination?"
"...H....He...."
"There it is again! I guess I'm not imagining it after all, but what is it?" A white line appears in the black void, stretching horizontally across as far as could be seen. That light? Is that where the sound is coming from?
"...He.....Hey!..." A distinctly masculine voice calls out. "Are you alright?"
"It's... a voice?" The white line expands, the curtains of black slowly unveil themselves to let in the brilliant world of light hidden behind them. Everything is blurry at first as the light shows itself, a myriad of colors dance across the field of vision as they arrange themselves into focus. "...H...huh?..."
"Finally, a response!" The colors jump together suddenly as the owner of the vision is shaken awake, looking startled at the one shaking him. "Thought he'd never wake up, thank goodness..." The owner of the voice appeared to be a horse, or more specifically a pony. He had a white coat, golden armor, and a blue mane and tail, though the stallion's helmet had been removed, revealing his sky-blue eyes and a spiral horn that jutted out of his forehead.
"Wh-who... who are you?" The eyes gazed questioningly at the stallion, the world through the eyes tilted slightly to the left. "And... where am I?..."
"I'm Shining Armor, and you're outside the city of Canterlot," the stallion answered with authority in his voice, scanning quickly with his eyes before looking concerned. "More importantly, are you ok? It looks like you fell quite a large distance."
"F-fell? What do you mean fell?" The owner of the vision looked up and saw a large city hung on the side of a mountain above, after looking around himself and noticed they were in a field of grass, a large group of ponies in knights' armor were circled around them. "Did I fall from up there?"
The pony who called himself Shining Armor shook his head and pointed at the ground with his right forehoof. A deep, pony-shaped crater had been seemingly pressed into the ground below them, the owner of the vision realized he had been standing in parts of the crater with his right forehoof and hindhoof. "Wait a minute... I have hooves?!"
"Of course you have hooves, you're a pony aren't you?" Shining Armor laughed, thinking it was a joke. "And don't you think you should be a bit more concerned with this crater you just made in the ground?"
"Well, it's not that I'm not concerned about the crater," the stallion replied frantically, walking around in circles as he tried to get a look at himself, "but I don't feel any pain at all." He had grey coat and a light-brown tail, and looking up at his bangs he saw that his mane was also a light-brown, on both of his flanks he saw the picture of a green four-leaf clover.
"No pain?! Are you sure? Not even a little?" Shining Armor and all the ponies around them looked surprised, no, maybe that was an understatement, they looked utterly shocked. The knights whispered amongst themselves and all looked at the grey stallion with their full attention.
"Nope, none at all," the grey stallion shook his head indifferently and suddenly found himself becoming uncontrollably curious. Everypony's look of shock seemed to suddenly double in strength as he felt even more curious. "Why? Why is everyo-... huh? Why is every... pony looking at me like that?" He felt one of the words in his last question being altered somehow, but he couldn't figure out what changed.
"Because you didn't fall from that city up there," the armored stallion, who the grey stallion could now see was somehow important to the other knights, pointed towards the sky with his hoof. "You fell from up there... from the sky..."
"From the sky?!" The grey stallion joined everyo-... pony... else in collective shock, not sure how to respond so he looked at the crater once again, finding new meaning in the detailed indents. "How the heck am I still alive?!"
