My Sister's Song
I Hate Doctors...
Previous ChapterNext Chapter"Vinyl, please open the door." Melody spoke in a soft tone.
"NO!!! HOW COULD YOU????" I was angry, confused, and scared. How could they? I trusted them and they bring some doctor person. After mom had died, I had purposely dodged everything that reminded me of a hospital or a doctor. Sure it wasn't the doctors' fault she had died. However, they had tried to send me to an orphanage and after hearing my mom threaten to send me there enough times, it didn't sound like a good place.
"Vinyl, Nurse Checkup is only here to make sure you are healthy. We wouldn't want you to be sick with something you caught from living on the streets, now would we?"
"No..." I paused. "She... She isn't going to send me to an orphanage, is she?" My voice was full of fear.
"No dear, she is not here to take you away." She spoke softly to me. "We just want you to be okay little one."
"You... You promise?"
"I promise Vinyl. Will you please open the door?"
I slowly used my magic to move the dresser out from in front of the door. Even slower than that, I unlocked the door and opened it. The second the door opened, strong hooves came around me. Melody lifted me up and began to cradle me like a small fowl. She held me to her ear and quietly whispered into it. "I promise you, no one will ever take you away."
Tears filled my eyes as she held me there. She had given me the one thing I had been asking for my whole life, to be held and loved.
Loved...
Slowly she set me back down and using her muzzle, began to push me gently towards Nurse Checkup. The nurse herself had a very gentle smile on her face as I walked up. Quickly looking around, I spotted Octavia who was sitting in the corner with a look of concern on her face.
"Alright Vinyl. I am just going to check you over and give you a few shots. It should only take a few minutes if you just sit still, okay"
"Okay... Wait a second... SHOTS?!?!?!?!?"
Octavia next to me rubbing a hoof down my back.
"I hate shots..."
She giggled a little.
"Just be thankful that it is over."
"Humph..."
We were sitting on the bed in Octavia's room again. Nurse Checkup had left moments ago and Melody was busy preparing dinner for the evening.
"What do you think my dad is doing?"
"As long as it isn't another doctor, I don't care."
"Oh come on. It wasn't that bad."
"I guess... Nurse Checkup was pretty nice..."
"Anyway, I hope whatever dad is doing, he does it quick. He promised he would play the fiddle yesterday and we know how that went..."
"Hey! I thought I was a pretty good surprise!"
She giggled again. "Of course you were. I just like teasing you."
"Double humph..." We both ended up giggling. Even with the checkup, everything today had been better than basically my whole life. If I could have relived this same day everyday for the rest of my life, I would. This day would be the record that span round and round; I wouldn't even try to scratch it.
Since we didn't know if Stephano was going to make it to the cabin in time, we were already eating when we heard the door open. And there he was, the biggest grin I had ever seen.
"I take it everything went as planned?" Melody was smiling.
"Even better. But that is a story for later."
Both Octavia and I looked at each other with confused looks on our faces.
"However, I believe I broke a promise to a little filly last night so I better make it up to her. After I eat, we will have a good old fiddling time!"
Like I said before. The best day of my life.
So far...
