The Tone of Forgotten Bells
Chapter 1: Forgotten Memory
Load Full StoryNext ChapterAs you trotted through the small town of Ponyville, on the way to the first day of your new school(as you have recently moved to Ponyville); you started humming a peaceful tune, when some pony screams, "WATCH OUT!!!" You made a quick turn in response, only to have met a sudden force colliding with your torso, knocking the wind from your lungs. A sharp ringing resonated within your ears after the collision, yet you could still hear arguing going on. For some reason, however, their names had never come as clear as the rest of their conversation.
"Oh darn it, why don't you ever pay attention to where you are going, ______!?” yelled a feminine, southern voice
Not southern per say- A southern accident. You had questioned why someone would have a southern voice
"Why don’t you stop arguing with me, ______!" You couldn't quite make out the rest of the arguing, and you had slowly stared to get up. A good reason to ignore something you have no business listening in on in the first place. When you managed to rise, and just barely get back on your hooves, the ringing had dispat-
"Are you all right? I wasn't sure because of how fast _____ was going…. Here, let me try to help you up."
Can a narrator not narrate about things in past tense, avoiding all name reveals, and breaking the fourth wall NARRATE IN PEACE?!
Ahem.
Fallen back again in surprise, she approaches you, talking in such a quiet tone you cannot hear her; But her voice is soft enough that it has a soothing effect on you. By the time you had sensed her soft fur brushing against your body, she had already pulled you to your feet. You finally noticed whom the three voices where- 3 fillies of your age, but for some reason you could only tell by their voices. Probably because their entire faces were shrouded in black, with only their coat’s colors visible on their legs.
"I'm fine”, you assure the kindly fillies, “So need to worry- But I need to get to school!”. You slowly trot away toward the building that may or may not randomly catch on fire, the school house, far in the distance. Of course, fire seems more likely because of how much distraction you would need to enter the heavily guarded base that is a school, late and unnoticed.
But you are a young pony, after all, so these had been clear presumptions were inaccurate. But this town did have _____ as the patron comedy actor and baker, so you could never know.
I don't even know my way to the school. Dimmit, I'm still new to Ponyville! Now that I think about it, isn’t that the school in the distance?
…..
Nah, it’s just a small abandoned one. No equestrian school looks like that anymore.
As you stared out in search of a more likely candidate of a schoolhouse, and into oblivion; normal people don’t have thought processes that long…or at least, normal people don’t stare blindly into nothingness while they think. A small poke caught your attention. The white coated filly was asking if you were new, since they haven't seen you before. As you replied with a yes, and a small blush for asking for their help to locate the school you had, before being plowed over, would never have found without the mishap. And, more likely, because you were staring into nothingness before a girl intercepted your line of sight. And caught your attention.
And made you think thoughts inappropriate for this fanfiction and your age.
The filly was the leader, and was directly in front of you, as she took you over to her friends and explained the issue
Though there was no plausible reason not to just allow, without asking her friends, you to just follow them on their way to the school. It was school time for them too after all-
Wait, I wasn’t supposed to admit the obvious schoolhouse is the schoolhouse for them, was I?
It soon became clear that the White filly and her friends where going to make this more complicated then need be, when the Orange filly had told you to hop into a wagon attached to a scooter. Once you were in position, the Orange PEGASUS filly got onto the scooter and had begun flapping her strangely small wings at an incredible speed for her age. As you dashed through Ponyville being roughly dragged by the dare-devil filly’s scooter, you caught a glimpse of town hall and the stores of Uptown Ponyville. Uptown? I never heard of Uptown before to describe Non-downtown. Signs around here just don’t make sense….
After about five minutes, you arrived at the exact school you thought to be abandoned. Slightly annoyed by your mistake and the motion sickness from the trip, you followed the three fillies. Two of which somehow made it along with you, despite neither of them boarding the scooter or the box. Inside, and as you started walking to the school, some of the other foals were staring at you; only because they had a new kid, and everyone is curious about a new kid. Especially a ‘foreign’ new kid. When you got inside, a pink coated mare was wrighting a message on the chalk board. She did not notice you, so you spoke up, since otherwise you could go unnoticed even though you had wanted to long before hand since you were extremely late.
"Um, excuse me? I'm the new student.."
She stopped writing and smiled at you, and introduced herself. However, you cannot remember her nor your name, and you simply never answered her question of ‘and who are you?’.
How impolite!
You sat at the chair she had pointed out to you as your own. As it turns out you weren’t late, as the bell rang minutes later. Foals whom were late started filing in, and you took a glance to your sides. To the right, the yellow coated filly. To your left, the white coated filly.
"All right, class, let us begin."
But, after she pronounced that, your world fades into oblivion once more- endless darkness. The ground isn’t there any longer, and you descended into the pit.
