In the Hooves of Rainbow Dash
When Twilight never comes to Ponyville, Rainbow Dash figures out her calling; magic. But she's not a unicorn, she's a pegasus. But when the Elements of Harmony are called to work, she finds herself taking the place of two.
Twilight Sparkle was never brought to Ponyville.
Which leaves the battle of Discord in Rainbow Dash's hooves. (Along with her friends).
Then, she realizes Magic is her element, and becomes Luna's protege. She also takes the element of Loyalty, and Luna knows the fabric of the universe might be torn if Rainbow Dash doesn't figure out her true self.
And then Rainbow Dash meets Twilight. Sworn enemies, Rainbow focuses on Magic more. She isn't an alicorn, which makes it impossible. But nothing is impossible for Rainbow Dash, even getting past the laws of Pony Physics.
