Discord's Warrior

As I was finally starting to go to sleep I felt something that made me gulp in fear the object was cold and sharp I opened my eyes only to see what I already suspected was against my neck, a dagger with a cyan colored aura around it and a snow white handle.

All of these things together summed up to a really shitty result that pretty innocent unicorn mare wasn’t as innocent as I thought she was.

“Why did you interfere when that diamond dog took my things?” said the voice of the mare that I was regretting of apparently saving just a couple minutes before.

“I wanted to help you, I thought he was going to hurt and maybe rape you or something” I asked trying to move away from the dagger that threatened my life.

“Night Shade if that is your real name could you tell me why the fuck you are doing this to me?” I asked looking around for the mare in the dark room of the inn.

“I ask the questions here stallion” Night Shade said as she walked out of the shadows, looking at me with her emerald colored eyes that looked like they had seen their fair share of violence.

“Now tell me where in Tartarus did you get this sword” she threw Eclipse Slicer at me from the foot of the bed “and remember if you lie to me I will end your life right here”

‘She’s feisty…..I like her’ said Discord showing little interest in what was happening to me.

I gulped hard again felling the dagger being pushed just a little bit harder on my neck “I got it from Discord, he gave it to me so that I could do him a favor”

Night Shade looked at me straight in the eye after I told her like if she could find out if I was lying or not “Hmmm let me confirm that”

Night Shade then grabbed a thick old looking book that was lying on the floor next to the bed; she then used her magic to flip through the pages
“Let’s see Dragonscale Greatsword, Grimsever, Master Blaze” she kept going until she stopped at one page “Eclipse Slicer” she said with a slight tone of amazement

“Yes, yes that’s the name of my sword now can you get this damn dagger way from me!?”

She looked back at me with a small smile “Sorry I just didn’t know why you wanted to help me, but that doesn’t matter anymore, you were given the sword of the God of Chaos!” she said a little too loudly after she moved the dagger.

I moved off the bed rubbing my neck in the spot where the dagger had been “yeah, yeah now tell me why you even pretended like you needed help with that diamond dog down there?”

Night Shade calmed down “That damn dog did take my book and I was about to kill him, but I didn’t want to start an all-out brawl and bring too much attention to myself so when you looked back I played the mare in distress card and you pretty much handled the problem like I wanted it to go”

‘That’s good old unicorn intelligence for you, hey Storm Chaser I think she’s a keeper’
After taking it all in I smirked “Clever mare, now why are you even here in Black Gem?”

“Well” she said as she frowned a little “I’m here because I heard there was an Equestrian book here, but when I got here it was already burned” she sighed “it’s a real shame I heard it was a book that was about agricultural methods”

I gave her a questioning look “Why would you come to the Mohoove desert for a book? And why would they burn it?”

She looked at me like I was stupid and said “Don’t you know that when that damn dragon took over he ordered for all the books written by ponies be burned, so that we couldn’t learn of ways to fight back against him so when I heard about a book being here I had to come”

That High King is smart, that’s probably why she wanted to get her book back down there.
“So what mission did Discord entrust you with?” asked Night Shade

“Well you’re going to think it’s crazy but Discord wants me to kill the High King so that Equestria can return to the way it once was” I said with little enthusiasm waiting for her to laugh at me and call me a fool.

But instead she gave me another small smile “Very good it seems that we have the same destination then”
“Where are you going to?”

“I am going to Canterlot because I need to find the last pieces of Equestrian literature to save them from being lost forever” she said with passion unlike me.

“Very well Storm Chaser I look forward to traveling with you to fulfill our goals” she then stretched her leg and put her hoof toward me.

I then gave her a hoof bump to agree to the proposal.
“Storm Chaser is it true that Eclipse Slicer has the ability of will sharpness? Or is it just a myth?”

I sat Lyra style on the edge of the bed and I grabbed Eclipse Slicer looking at the sheath “Yes it is real but it isn’t that good of an ability for a sword”

I looked down remembering how I failed Palewing by not being able to cut that damn dragon’s arm.
“Well Night Shade I need to know that you can defend yourself out there I will try to keep you as safe as I can, but in the case I can’t help you, you will have to defend yourself”

Night Shade looked slightly offended by what I had said and her horn lit up with the cyan colored aura as she levitated three daggers above her head “How do you think I stayed alive all this time? Don’t think just because I’m a mare that I can’t defend myself”

Noticing my mistake of insulting her I cleared my throat nervously and said “Sorry, it’s just that I don’t want you dying because I couldn’t protect you from harm”.

Night Shade understood what I said and stopped being insulted by my concern for her safety and nodded like she knew what it was like to lose someone and she put away her three daggers in her saddlebag.
The room was filled with awkward silence for a minute before I yawned “Well Night Shade if you don’t mind I would like to go to sleep now”

“Yes I’m sorry I had to wake you up like that it’s just that I really didn’t know if you were going to do something to me while I slept” she said a little ashamed.

“Yeah well don’t expect the worst of peo.. I mean ponies before you at least know them a little, but I guess in these times you can’t really trust nopony” I got in the bed again “I hope you don’t do that again”

“Don’t worry now that we are partners I have no reason to do that anymore, besides I think Discord chose you for a reason, and I would like to find out just what makes him think that you can take on that damn dragon”

We both lay down on the bed and finally I got the rest that I deserved.

The next day

“Night Shade I really hope you have those daggers put away because I will get pissed off if you have them on my neck again” I said a little grumpily as I woke up still a little tired.

“Would you relax already? I told you from now on we are partners and we don’t ever have to draw our weapons at each other” said Night Shade as she got out of the bed with a really messy unkempt mane.

She walked up to where she had left her saddlebag and she started to brush her mane using her magic while she did I looked at her cutie mark which appeared to be a shooting star.

‘Do you like what you see Storm Chaser? You could just ask her, she might even say yes you know by pegasus standards you’re a little handsome’

“Shut up Discord” I whispered making sure Night Shade didn’t hear so that she didn’t think I was talking to myself like a crazy pony.

I then got off the bed and gathered all my things from where I had left them last night.

We then both left the room and went down the stairs where old Gryphe was sitting behind the counter of the saloon, he was sleeping lightly snoring ever so often as we walked down the stairs he heard us and woke up.

He rubbed his eyes to wake up completely and looked at me with his tired eyes “So did you have any fun tonight?” he asked with a sly grin on his beak “It was awfully quiet last night”

“I did have a little fun” said Night Shade giving old Gryphe a wink that made the old gryphon think that we really did do it “Whoa Storm Chaser I didn’t think you would let her take the lead”.

“Yeah well she is very persuasive if you catch my drift” I answered as we slowly continued on towards the exit and I put my left wing over Night Shade’s back continuing the little joke we were playing on Gryphe humoring him.

Gryphe laughed like an old man who had seen many things in life and was humored for a small bit.

We got out of the saloon not seeing a wanted poster on the other side of the door, and I moved my wing off of her back
unsure if she didn’t want it there “We need to go north to get out of the desert and closer to our destination” said Night Shade as she levitated a slightly rusted helmet and she put it on her head.

As I looked at it more closely I saw that it was a royal guard pony helmet complete with the blue Trojan style helmet crest it was in good shape, its gold color still there in spite of the time that it had been used.

We walked out of Black Gem a little quicker than I had expected I then started to stretch my wings thinking it was about time I used them again so I flapped hard and flew a couple of feet above her.

We both continued on deeper into the desert to get to the other side, but as I flew I noticed for the first time how much my vision had improved I flew a little bit higher “Damn I could see an ant from here if I wanted”

As I looked down I saw Night Shade just keep on walking seemingly not caring that she couldn’t see me so I dived down by folding my wings and as I reached her I opened them wide to stop.

“You fly pretty fast Storm Chaser, but remember we shouldn’t separate unless we do it as a part of a plan to defeat an enemy and I don’t think you should fly too high because on occasion dragons fly through this part of the desert”

I was starting to see that Night Shade was calculating and smart obviously the reason why she has been surviving all this time with apparently no one else with herself.

“Okay, sure thing Night Shade. Hey do you have any other means of fighting, like can you use spells or teleport or anything like that?”

She sighed a little disappointed “No sadly I don’t know any spells or how to teleport if I could read how to do it I could maybe do one of those, but those cursed dragons burned almost all of the books on Equestria” she said the last part angrily.

“But I do have this book of weapons and in the last page there is a summoning spell that I could use to summon an array of weapons from a hidden place in Canterlot that the royal guards would use as an armory”

“Why don’t you use the spell every time you fight?”
“Unfortunately somepony ripped the part of the page of the book that says the words of the spell, and without them it is almost impossible to do it”

“Maybe I could look at it and see if I can make sense of it”
Night Shade gave me questionable look “A pegasus pony giving a unicorn spell instructions? What makes you think that you could?”

I shrugged at the statement “I don’t know sometimes all you need is a different point of view to try to understand something that you can’t alone”

Before she could answer five diamond dogs came out from under the sand all with menacing looks on their faces greeting us with growls and barks not unlike the dogs back on Earth.

I grabbed Eclipse Slicer and unsheathed it, while Night Shade levitated her three daggers above her head, both of us ready to strike at any moment.

A familiar looking diamond dog stood out from the others and I recognized him as the one I had threatened the day before to ‘save’ Night Shade.

“I told you this not over ponies” he said in his low voice almost growling as he did “Kill male, leave the female pony she mine”
I looked over to Night Shade surprised to see her calm free of anger or fear towards the pack of diamond dogs that where in front of us, I also noticed that only one dagger was floating above her head.

Before the diamond dog from the saloon could say even another word two daggers stabbed him on both sides of his neck making him gargle from his own blood and die on the sand.

“Damn” was all I could say before Night Shade made her third dagger fly at a short black furred diamond dog from the group hitting him straight between the eyes also killing him instantly.

The last three diamond dogs where frightened by the resistance that a couple of ponies had given them, but they didn’t run away instead they did the rather stupid move of trying to attack me.

“Be careful Storm Chaser their jaws are strong enough to break diamonds” said Night Shade as she moved away from me so that she could safely attack from a distance.

I flew towards two of the diamond dogs one skinny and tall and the other one fat and short both armed with spears when I reached them I spun to the right very fast swinging my sword at the same time decapitating the shorter diamond dog and cutting the other one deep in his chest.

As they both fell I looked around to see where the last diamond dog was, but he was nowhere to be seen so I assumed he ran away and I sheathed Eclipse Slicer again after I flicked the blood off of its blade.

As soon as I was about to land the last diamond dog jumped at me from beneath the sand with its gaping maw aiming right at my right hind leg an injury that would kill me from blood loss in seconds.

Unable to attack it without being bit by his powerful jaws I prepared for the worst and time felt like it slowed down as the diamond dog’s jaws came ever closer waiting to bite into my flesh and bone.

‘Fuck I didn’t think a damn diamond dog would be what would kill me, I always thought a shark would do it oh well’
But out of nowhere came three white daggers enveloped by a cyan colored aura stabbed the diamond dog right in the temple and his right eye drenching my right hind leg with blood making me shiver of how close he was from killing me.

“Be careful Storm Chaser, you should never let your guard down like that not many ponies can live after a diamond dog bite especially not in these times” said Night Shade as she removed her daggers from the dead body.

‘She’s right Storm Chaser you were really fucking lucky right now don’t make that same mistake again, remember you’re the one who is supposed to protect not the other way around’

I calmed down and started to breathe normally “Thank you Night Shade I really appreciate it, I’m really glad you’re on my side I really wouldn’t know how to defend myself against three daggers coming at me from all sides”

“Well we ponies have to stick together especially during these dark times Storm Chaser, and besides I’m sure you would do the same for me too” she said as she wiped her daggers clean on the jacket of one of the diamond dogs.

“Yes, we do now do you wouldn’t have anything to eat right?” I said feeling hungry and a little thirsty from being in the heat of the desert for a couple of hours now.

Night Shade shook her head, I took out my canteen and gave it to her she uncapped it and took several gulps from it and levitated it back to me.

“We should keep moving, we don’t want the real diamond dog packs to catch us out here”
The rest of the day was uneventful except for the fact that I found some cacti that had small yellow fruits on them that Night Shade said were edible so after we both ate some, we put a couple away in our saddlebags for later.

We reached another big rock and we set up camp at the foot of it to shield us from the cold winds of the desert night and by set up camp I mean we just put all of our things on the floor.

I found another two small rocks and ignited a small fire to keep us warm for the night as we sat near the fire Night Shade took her helmet off letting her cyan colored hair down.

“So how did you get a hold off that helmet Night Shade?” I asked her as we both looked at the small fire.
“My father gave it to me shortly after the High King dragon took over Equestria” she said sadly obviously not wanting to talk about it anymore.

“And how do you know that there are still books in Canterlot?” I asked trying to change the topic of our conversation.
She sighed a little “My father told me that in Canterlot there is a hidden library that holds the most important pieces of Equestrian literature” I almost kicked myself for my question that she clearly didn’t want to answer.

“Why don’t you tell me something about yourself Storm Chaser?”

“Well Discord talks to me in my mind, if you could believe it” again I waited for laughter that never came.

“And what does he tell you anyway?” she said looking straight at me with her feminine eyes.
‘Call me crazy, but she might be hitting on you’
“Just weird things and I think he likes you” I answered 'Hey dont tell her that'

She didn't say anything she just smiled again

“Can I take a look at that book, I can help you figure summoning out”
“Very well, I would really like to figure it out that way I will be able to fight on a whole other level and be more useful as a result, by the way do you have any other way of fighting”

A chill went down my spine as I remembered the rush that my dragon form gave me “I do but I can’t really control it”
“Well if you help me summoning weapons I’ll aid you with controlling this other fighting method that you possess” she said slightly tired

We both laid down face up to the starry sky as I once again hoped I could be strong enough to protect her from harm.
