A Blue Joke
Chapter 2: Might have been something
Blue was trotting through market this early Ponyville afternoon, and it was rather busy. He'd found his shopping list upon a return to his house, and had now purchased most of the groceries he'd need. It was just as he was beginning to leave the square when he saw a bubblegum-colored mare – Pinkie Pie – bouncing along in the other direction. This act was not overly unusual, especially not by Pinkie's standards, no. What was weird was that she had a decent spot of blue on her face while she did so. Blue stepped in next to Pinkie, who hardly noticed.
“Excuse me, Pinkie Pie?” Blue asked, and she immediately stopped bouncing forward and turned to him quizzically, “You've got something on your face about here,” he pointed a hoof to the approximate spot on his own chin area, “And it looks rather silly.”
“Ooh... I wonder what it is... Nodon'ttellme! Ummm, is it jam? Nono... umm, What was I supposed to guess... Oh! Thanks Talguy! Is it tree sap? Please tell me it isn't tree sap!” Pinkie's mile-a-minute speech patterns almost make Blue not notice her odd remark.
“Who's –”
“Oh... I wonder if it's that weird flower!” Pinkie then stuck her tongue out and licked the offending spot off of her face. “Thanks Lightning!”
“But... Who in Equestria is..” Pinkie had already bounced away by the time Blue stammered out that much. Oh well, I guess she was just being Pinkie Pie, and who am I to try and understand? Blue thought to himself as he headed for the apple stand. When he got there, he saw an orange mare in a Stetson hat at the counter. Like two others today, she had a dusting of the odd blue powder.
“Howdy! Welcome to the Sweet Apple Acres stand, Blue! What can Ah do you for?” Applejack inquired as the Pegasus trotted up to the stand.
“Afternoon, Applejack, I was hoping to buy some apples.” He produced the desired amount from a basket and paid his bits. “Are you friends with Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash, by chance? And more importantly, were you part of the group that went into the Everfree Forest?” Blue asked as he put the apples in his saddlebag.
“Ah am, and we went in after mah lil' sister Applebloom. She went in after Zecora and we rounded her up and sent her on back to the farm. Big Macintosh is lettin' her have it for slipping off.” Explaining the situation to Blue appeared to be her way of getting over her confusion.
“It's just, you are covered in this blue dust, and I just thought you'd like to know.” At that, Applejack looked at her foreleg and quickly produced a rag, and began dusting herself off.
“Much obliged, Blue. Have a good day now!” Blue headed off to his house, deep in thought. This dust seems to be all over... perhaps something is up after all. As he was in a hurry to get home at this point, Lighting was oblivious to the fact that he was also dusted in the blue stuff, and the powder on his tri-lightning Cutie Mark bad begun to faintly glow in pulses.

Chapter 1: Probably Nothing
It was a bright and sunny day in Ponyville, and Blue Lighting had just emerged from his modest home. The wicked enchantress had been in town today, and he heard rumors that six mares had gone into the Everfree after her. The blue colt pondered who'd be brave enough to do that. That Zecora is a strange character, and he had the sense to lock his door whenever she came around. Now where was that Rainbow Dash? She owed him 5 bits for his work earlier that day. She was paying him a bonus if he took her early sun duty today. Always looking to impress his boss and coworker, Blue agreed, and, in his opinion, did a great job. Just then, he noticed a small group emerging from the Everfree forest a ways off. He could only see colors from his doorstep, but there were too many colors per-capita for Rainbow not to be amongst them. Just then, Dash broke from the group and began flying in his direction.
“Hey Dash!” Blue called as she got in range, “What's that about, and... about this morning...”
“Oh, Blue! Nothing, a silly filly wandered after Zecora, and my friends and I went in and got her. I did offer the bits if you did a good job, alright, and you did, congrats!”
Rainbow had landed near blue and trotted up to him, producing a small pouch from under her wing. She opened it and five small gold coins were quickly produced and given to Blue. As he took the cash, he noted her coat was lightly dusted in a bluish dust, and it was thickest at the wings. The bits he'd taken had also taken some of it.
“Dash, what's with this blue stuff you got on your wings? It kinda smells funny.” Lighting asked as his coworker put away her coin purse. A puzzled look quickly spread across her face as she noticed the powdery substance. She flapped her wings powerfully a few times, launching a sizable cloud into the air. Both equines were coughing on the dust. Dash laughed a bit afterward.
“Sorry Blue... Musta been those dumb flowers we had to walk through in the forest, probably won't do anything, but I'm gonna wash. I sure got a lot on my wings, and I don't want it caking my feathers.” Dash sounded a bit concerned at the end of her statement.
“Yeah, that wouldn't be fun later. See ya around, Rainbow!” With that, Lighting began to head for the market, as he'd intended to do all day. What was that stuff? Probably nothing, better not worry about it. Now if only he'd remembered to pack his shopping list.....
