Prologue
RRRIIIINGGG! I awoke to the sound of the bell. I opened my eyes and lifted up my head seeing the other kids file out of the classroom. I stood up and heaved my backpack up onto one shoulder. "Storm." I turned my head at the sound of my name and looked over at my Health teacher, Mrs. Sanders. She was a middle aged woman with dark hair pulled back in a ponytail. She was average height, about 5' 8'', and had average weight to match.
"Yes, Ma'am?" I replied sleepily. "Look, I know that you're having a hard time at home and at school recently," She was right. I've been taking care of my very sick mother every night and it kept me up late. To make matters worse, at school I was constantly bullied and picked on. "but you still need to pay attention in class and keep your grades up." she continued. This she wasn't so right about. This class was all completion points. An easy 'A'. "I know, Ma'am. I've just been distracted lately. But I promise to start paying attention." that was a lie. There was no way in hell that I could pay attention in this class.
I turned around and left the room. I walked through the hallway in my usual form: arms at the side, head down, looking at the floor. As I turned the corner and neared my locker I looked up. Surprise, surprise. Carter Potter was standing by my locker as usual. "Crap." I thought. "Why can't this guy just buck off? Well, let's get this over with."
"Excuse me, Carter. Can I get to my locker real quick?"
"Oh, I'm sorry. Is this your locker? I had no idea, you little nerd. Get out of here."
"I have a big test tomorrow so I have to study. So could you move for just a-"
He grabbed me by the front of my shirt and lifted me off the ground. "I said get out of here, twerp." He threw me up against the opposite lockers. I felt my head snap back and hit the top corner of one. My vision started to go black and my eyes watered up. "What's the matter? Your little pony friends not here to help you?" His goons started laughing and I heard people coming to watch the entertainment. One of Carter's buddies ran up and punched me hard in the stomach. I crumpled over on the ground. I glanced at the clock. 2:58. Crap. I had two minutes before the bus leaves. I stood up and started to walk out of the locker area but I didn't get far before someone pushed me back down.
"Where do you think you're going? We aren't finished yet." I felt someone press their foot into my back and dig the heel of their boot into my spine.
"Storm." Carter said "What a stupid name. What where your parents even thinking? They were probably drunk. I bet you were an accident weren't you?" more laughter came from the large crowd that gathered around. I saw some adults walk by but they acted as though they didn't notice anything. Suddenly there was a voice. A small one, but still powerful enough to stop the laughter.
"Leave her alone!" it said. Carter turned to face his new opponent. It was a cheerleader. I didn't know any of the cheerleaders by name but I could tell that she was a member of the squad because of her distinct hair. I recognized her from pep assemblies.
"Get away from her! She hasn't done anything wrong. Go find someone else to push around." she scolded.
Carter smirked "Whatever. Let's get out of here, guys" Carter and his buddies turned around to leave and slowly the crowd left with them.
The girl walked over to me and stretched out her hand to help me up. I took it and painfully stood. For the first time I got a good look at my savior. Her most defining feature was her long purple hair. She had bright blue eyes and wore blue jeans with a white hoodie. On her feet she wore black Chuck Taylors. The same as mine.
"Hello." She said "My name's Rarity. We haven't met before but I have noticed you."
"Noticed me?" I questioned. It seems strange that a cheerleader would notice me.
"Yes." she replied "Mostly because of your shirts. From the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I also noticed your tendency to draw ponies all over everything."
"Oh, yeah. Well, I don't know if you knew this but one of the ponies on the show is named Rarity." I informed her. I never thought I'd meet a person called Rarity.
"Yes, I did know actually. That's why I need to talk to you." she said urgently. Her tone dropped "It's very important and you may be the only person around here who can help me."
We walked down the long path towards my house (since I had missed the bus) and I listened as Rarity informed me on her situation.
"Well, I have been here for quite some time now and at first I thought that I would just be stuck in this strange land forever! So I enrolled in your school (may as well become educated while I'm here) and then I noticed you. And all of your shirts with pictures of my friends and I. I thought it to be quite strange! So I used your 'interwebs' to find out about all of this and turns out we have a television show! So strange, I never had any idea. Of course I always did think that Pinkie Pie was hiding some information..."
"Oh yeah. Pinkie tends to break the fourth wall a lot." I interjected. "So, how exactly did you get here?" I asked
"You see, my friend, Twilight Sparkle, was working on some new teleportation spells and I ran in her line of fire I suppose. At least we now know that it works! Quite well, actually..." Rarity said sounding a bit put out.
"I see. Do you think there's a way we can get you back? I mean, I don't know much about teleportation between dimensions but we have to at least try!"
"That would be wonderful, darling!" she said with joy "I do miss my friends so very much! And this world isn't so fantastic is it? No offense of course..." she added.
"I'm not offended at all. I don't really like it here. Kids at school hate me and I have no family other than my dying mother...I would much rather live in Equestria with you guys..." I muttered.
"That's a great idea!" she shrieked "if we find a way back to my world you should come with me! We can be the "Mane 7"! This will be so much fun!"
"Wait! But it could create a wormhole and-" she cut me off
"Shhhhh! I have to plan this all out!" she yelled while she skipped along the dirt path.
After an hour of walking we had finally arrived at my house. "I'm going to go check on my mom real quick." I told her "Just say here, okay? Grab something to eat if you're hungry." She nodded and I ran down the hall to my mom's room "Mom?" I called softly "Are you awake? I'm home from school and have a friend over. Do you need anything?" She didn't respond and I walked over to her bed. As I got closer I noticed it was empty. "Mom?!" I said frantically "Mom! Where are you?! Mom!" I started running through the house calling for my mother. She wasn't anywhere in sight. I sprinted to the kitchen to find Rarity. "Rarity! My mom is gone and I have no idea where she could be! She's too sick to be able...Rarity? Are you alright?" Rarity was sitting at the kitchen table looking stunned. A tear rolled down her cheek as she reached to hand me the paper she was holding. I grabbed it and read the note carefully.
"Storm,
We regret to inform you that while you were at school our hospital room received an alert from your mother. We came over to see her as quickly as we could but it was too late. By the time we got here your mother was in critical condition and had passed. We attempted to contact you through your school administration. However, when we called you had left the building and were walking home. We are very sorry for your loss. If you wish you organize a funeral please call us at 555-3981.
Sincerely,
Heartland Local Hospital."
I started to shaking as I felt tears coming to my eyes. My mother had died while I was at school worrying about my own selfish problems. I was a terrible daughter. I covered my face with my hands and fell to my knees. Rarity ran over, kneeled down and hugged me in an attempt to make me feel better.. I leaned against her tried to hold back tears. "It's going to be alright, Storm." she said soothingly "We're going to get to Equestria and live there, okay? You can grow up with friends, go to school and eventually get your cutie mark!" I sat up. "I need to be strong." I thought "Mom would want me to be strong." I composed myself and sat up.
"Okay" I said "Let's do it. Let's get out of this crappy world."
