Blood - Beginnings
Creation
Load Full Story"Darkness. That's all there is. It is all that excists. This world is cold, alone, and it appears to have no purpose. How long have I been around? This is maddening. Nothing to do or see. There isn't even anything to touch and all I can feel is ... Wait whats that?" I asked myself as I saw a bright flash of light emerge in the million year darkness but it wasn't just a light, it was life. Over time I saw planets form and stars light up. It was chaotic but amazing. I wound up paying close attention to one planet.
To me the planet was a cute little green orb in the vast darkness of space, I watched it grow and evolve for few trillion years. It's inhabitants walked on four legs, some had wings while others had a horn. They called themselves 'Ponies'. I had always wondered what I was as I had no body or flesh of my own. Years passed and my desire to join them grew at a rapid rate. Eventually I grew envious of the joy the ponies had and joining the little creatures was all I could think of. I wanted to feel the joy they felt. One day, I had enough.
"Universe! Fate! Why do you torment me? I wish to join these creatures. Am I alive or am I just here to let the darkness consume me? Stars, moons, planets, I have watched over you since you were small. I have been here since before life started but has my own life started? No! This torment is unjust! I ask that I have a chance to live my life, I just want to live, I want to know what these small creatures know. Please, If you only give me one thing, then I beg of you to please give me this!" I waited in my formless excistance, hoping the universe or anything would hear my pleas and allow me to exist. Nothing happened for a long time. Until I heard a voice, it was soft and welcoming. It scared me because I had never heard a voice that wasn’t my own, but that fear soon turned to hope as I heard it.
“Timeless being that desires to be one with this planet, I have heard your pleas. What is your name?” The soft voice asked me.
“What is a name? Is that why I haven’t been able to be one with these ponies, because I don’t have a name?” I cried out in a mix of fear and desperation. I had no way of telling if the voice was real, I could only hope that it would respond to me.
“You poor being. Would you like me to give you a name and body to call your own? Do you really want to live on this planet, with these creatures for all eternity?” At that moment I had for the first time felt hope. This voice was offering me a chance to live; it was offering me a name, body, identity, and a chance to exist. I had waited eons for a chance like this and my answer came quickly.
“Yes! Please let me be alive, please give me a name and body, give me a purpose!” I voiced as loud as I could, my desperation to live was growing inside me like a wild beast and I couldn’t wait to let that beast out.
“Life is full of pain and suffering, love and joy, happiness and sadness, wrath and compassion, loyalty and betrayal; it is pure and yet corrupt at the same time. I want you to know that your life may not be what you have envisioned it to be. Do you still want to live?” I was almost sure that the voice had a tone of worry but my desire remained true, it was what I wanted and to me this chance meant everything.
“Yes.” I said with hope in my voice. It was the only thing I could say.
“May your life be sweet as sugar. Your name will be Blood and you will hopefully do great things.”
“My name is Blood.” As I said the words, I felt a strong sensation; glowing white lines grew before me and they soon took the skeletal form of a small pony. Then mussel and flesh grew over the bones to produced the disgusting form of a skinned colt, the form was short lived as skin and fur grew quickly.
“Let’s make you different and unique.” The soft voice stated with a tone of amusement. I watched as the soulless body grew a horn and a pair of small feathered wings. In all my time watching the ponies I had never seen one with both horns and wings. I had known that winged ponies were known as Pegasus and a pony with a horn was known as a unicorn but whatever this was new to the world. I looked closely at the small body, a white coat, mane and tail. The tips of the mane and tail were red. It was really plain but at that moment I wasn’t going to be anything but grateful. It was a nice body and I knew that it was one I would be happy with.
“I have just one question.” I pushed my essence toward the body, after a long painful shock and a lot of organs starting up; I was myself in a bodily form.
It was unlike anything I had ever experienced, I ran my hoof over my foreleg, I felt my own soft coat and I liked it. Everything was new, fresh and I think I was smiling.
"Ask your question." The voice said while it giggled.
"Who are you?" I asked with the hope that I would learn the voices name.
"I'm the you, that you never knew." The voice giggled and faded away.
"Well isn't that cryptic?" I said to myself as I looked at the planet below.
"Well this is wonderful I'm alive but millions of feet in the sky!" I growled as I tried to 'swim' to planet, I did move a little but after a hour or so I was beginning to feel tired and I felt like my sides were going to split open.
"The torment continues!" My inside of my head began to throb and pound against my skull, I was so sick of space at this point. I continued to struggle to get to the planet but my knowledge of my new body was limited and I soon found out that if you overtax yourself, you end up blacking out.
Pain is all I felt when I first woke up. My whole body was sore and I felt like I had been beaten. Opening my eyes I saw something I had seen before but never had I seen it like this. The moon loomed over the horizon and it was beautiful then I realized I was on the little planet that I had so desired to be on. I was washed ashore, the cold night wind ravaged my tiny wet body. I could feel all four legs shake and burn as I slowly stood up. Taking my first step was awful because I fell down on my muzzle, it hurt and I felt water leak from my eyes. I sat and held my pained nose, slowly the water kept flowing from my eyes and involuntary whimpers came from my throat.
"Over here I think I heard something!" I heard a strong, deep voice call out. I sat confused yet hopeful that what I was hearing was the voice of a pony I could befriend. I looked toward a patch of shrubbery and waited until I saw a deep grey pony emerge from the bushes.
"What the?" Said the deep grey stallion as he looked at me. I slowly stood again, wishing my legs would stop shaking and that my heart would resume its normal beat. Another stallion came from behind him, this one was slightly smaller than the deep grey one and he was green but they were both bigger than me. I found both of them rather intimidating.
"What did you find?" The green pony asked the deep grey one.
"A colt." The deep grey pony replied as he blew some of his mane out his eyes then he continued. "And finding a colt is the same thing as finding nothing at all."
I felt a deep pain in my chest. What did he mean by finding me is the same as finding nothing?
"Hey look." The green pony trotted over to me and I was too afraid to move. The green pony lifted one of my tiny wings then tapped my horn and said "This kids got both a horn and wings. What do you think he is?"
"I told you he's nothing, come on let's go home and leave this thing behind us." The grey pony angrily snapped at the green pony and began to walk away.
"Geez ok settle down." The green pony said with his ears slightly lowered. The green pony started to follow the grey pony and I started to follow but fell yet again.I felt a even greater pain this time and I let out a yelp as red water dripped into my left eye which burned to the point that I was forced to shut my eye. The green pony glanced back at me.
"Poor guy, you probably won't last a week." More water came from my eyes. This wasn't what I remembered. I remembered kind and gentle creatures that loved to help and care for one another. I looked at the green pony with my one eye shut and my teeth showing, I was angry at both of them for leaving me all alone and I think he could tell because he flinched a bit then turned and ran after his partner. I rubbed my forehead and looked at my hooves to see a red stain on them. I sighed and looked behind me to see why my coat was wet. My eyes widened in awe as I saw a vast body of water moving before my eye. It was amazing and I could see a small and bright orb coming from over the horizon, it tinted the sky pink, orange and red.
"I-I'll show him, I can last a week, I'll continue to last." I gave myself a small talk to build my confidence and to my own surprise it worked a little better than I thought it would.
"Alright ... umm ... Blood yeah that's my name, my name is Blood." I turned back around toward the forest and yet again fell on my face, I felt a shell cut my nose and I cried out as sand entered my wounds. I stood up quickly and looked down at my hooves, I moved a front hoof, then the back hoof diagonal of that one and repeated on the other side. I laughed as I learned to walk, but I soon learned to look forward when walking because I banged my head on a tree. I rubbed my head and looked at the tree.
"Ok seriously this getting hurt stuff is getting old really fast." I walked into the forest and noticed that the ground was different from the area around the body of water. It was green and kinda strange to walk on but I soon learned how to cope with it. I found the forest very confusing and I wandered around for a long time when I looked for the white orb in the sky it was directly above me.
I sighed and looked around to see trees, trees and more trees. I listened for any noise that would get me out of here and I heard a faint growl from a cave not too far from me. I hoped that whomever was in there would be nicer than the ponies I had met before and I walked toward the cave. The growl was anything but inviting nevertheless I continued until I was at the mouth of the cave. The cave seemed safe enough to use as a temporary shelter.
"Hello?" I called into the cave, I heard my own voice echo six times, yet again I heard a growl but this time it was louder and more threatening. I braced myself for whatever awaited me and I slowly started to walk into the caves dark opening but I didn't get far before a pair of eyes emerged in the darkness. They unnerved me as they came closer, I stepped back fearing the unknown. A furry brown snout with a black nose and sharp teeth was the first thing I saw. Then it lunged at me as I hopped backward instinctually and when I looked back at the being I felt fear, I was staring into the eyes of a brown bear that was no more than three feet away.
I felt the same feeling I had felt in space when I tried to swim down to the planet but I knew that if I blacked out now that it would be the last thing I ever did. I screamed as it roared but I was the first to turn and start running. Amazingly I managed not to trip even though I had just learned to walk, I glanced behind me to see the brown bear giving chase and its large paws hitting the ground like thunder, I was slow compared to the bear which caught up with me quickly.
"Please I didn't mean any harm, I just wanted to have shelter!" I tried to reason with the bear but failed. I kept running using the trees and my size to my advantage and eventually I came upon two trees in a V formation and hopped through them the bear tried to do the same but got its head caught between them. I looked at the trapped bear as it snarled and clawed at the tree, trying to regain its freedom.
"Ha take that!" I laughed as I found it rather amusing to see that my pursuer had been so easily beaten. The bear stopped struggling and let out a sad grumble, I smiled at the bear but from the bushes came four bear cubs which had followed the large bear, I realized that the bear who had chased me was really only trying to protect its young, my smile soon vanished as the little cubs tried to free their mother. I watched the cubs for about five minutes, they made little or no progress and I felt bad. It was my fault their mother was trapped, I was the one who had gotten her stuck and I knew that without their mother the cubs would surely perish. Sorrow came over me and I walked toward the cubs, when they noticed my approach they tried to scare me away by growling and swating at me.
"Shut up and let me save your mother!" I snarled at them and to my own astonishment they backed away, I examined the the tree to best find out how to free the mother bear, I couldn't really think of an effective way to release her from the trees grasp so I started to gnaw on the left tree as it was thinner. I kept chewing until I tasted something wet, warm, and slightly pleasing in my mouth then saw the red liquid run down the tree, my mouth was sore and my will to save her diminishing along with my strength, I stopped chewing on the tree and saw that I had chewed about an eighth of the way through the tree. I felt horrible, four bear cubs were doomed because of my ignorance. I turned to look at the cubs and simply shook my head.
"I'm sorry, I don't have the strength to save her, please forgive me." I'm not sure why but at that moment the largest cub walked over and started to chew in the tree exactly where I had been, the cub did the same as me, he chewed about an eighth of the way through the tree before one if his brothers or sisters took over. The smallest of the cubs came over to me and gave me a push, puzzled I watched it give me another push. I spit red and held my right cheek.
"Do you want me to leave?" I asked the small cub which replied with another push.
"Alright, I'm sorry for all the trouble I caused." I honestly didn't want to stay to see if the mother bear would forgive me or have me as the next meal, I gave each cub a small tap with my nose before heading off in my own direction. I looked up at the clouds and the magic light orb in the sky. I hoped that the cubs could free their mother, knowing that their teeth were much sharper than my own made me realize that they could tear that tree down faster than I ever could. I wandered out of the forest and into green field of tall grass.
"Where is everypony?" I shouted into the open field then I waited for a moment only to hear the wind blow. I noticed darkness was creeping over the land and also I felt my little body grow weaker. I walked over to a nearby tree that had a nestlike divot in its exposed root, I decided to crawl inside to rest. As I laid in the circular shelter I curled up into a sort of ball and shut my eyes. I found it strange how when I closed my eyes that all I could see was black, soon after shutting my eyes I found myself unable to feel my body.
