Pete Powell's Life as a Pony, and Beyond
Final Epilogue
Previous Chapter“Sister,” Celestia nodded to Luna as the woman entered the study.
“It's been quite some time,” Luna replied, pulling up a chair.
“I think almost ten years since the last time we talked, or even wrote.”
“I've been quite busy,” Luna said, taking a deep breath. “Even now I find this strangely relaxed.”
“I would say, but surely the children have grown up enough now?” Celestia then chuckled, “Ah, they would actually be teenagers now, wouldn't they? I'm surprised you haven't just sped up their aging by now.”
Luna laughed as well, “That wouldn't do any good. They need more time to develop their powers.”
Celestia's face fell. “So they do have magic then. Like Pete.”
“More so, sister. You forget, they are my children as well.”
Celestia sighed. “This could be a nightmare. Now that I think of it, how will you perpetuate the species? Surely incest isn't ...”
Luna smiled and stood up. Celestia moved to stop her, but the Princess of Night simply opened the door, letting in two small humans. The first was a boy, very tan and athletic, around ten years old. The thing that struck Celestia dumb was his hair. “Rainbow,” she muttered in shock. The other was a girl, about the same age, giggling and bubbly, with curly brown hair.
“Can you guess who they are?” Luna challened.
“That's not possible,” Celestia muttered looking at the two.
“Oh c'mon!” the boy shouted, “I hear that every other day outta someone.”
The girl only giggled harder, “Lighten up! We are pretty special after all.”
Celestia only looked at Luna. “Did you do this?”
“It was an oversight. When I made Pete's body I accidentally made him … compatible with our world. His magical powers, how enhanced they are, and his ability to have children were, actually, my fault. Well, I won't really say fault, he deserves the same rights as everyone else, but his genetics are different than they were, as are his children's, and ours.”
The boy groaned loudly, “What does that even mean?”
“What she means is that when we get older we can have kids like us even though us and Momma Luna's kids are the only other humans.” The little girl smiled innocently at her half brother.
Celestia looked at the girl, then at Luna, who nodded in agreement. “That's what I wanted to talk to you about. I want to start getting the children involved in the world.”
“That's not my decision to make,” Celestia said.
“I know, but … I want to make town.” Celestia raised an eye brow. “I want a town where humans can live, where ponies that aren't afraid of them can live. Where they can grow back to being part of our world.”
“A colony.”
Luna nodded. “Pete wants it too. We think that right where we are, near Ponyville, would be a good place. Obviously, we need help with this.”
“I'll do whatever I can.”
Luna smiled and handed Celestia an envelope. “It's from Pete. He's been working on a plan for this for the last few years now. He thinks he's got it mostly covered but he wants to be sure, and of course he's asking for your help in there as well.”
“I see,” Celestia said slowly, “And why isn't he here today?”
“Dad's busy cause Mom's pregnant again,” the boy said.
Celestia looked shocked once more. “Again?”
Luna nodded. “Between Pinkie and Rainbow, Pete has four children with a fifth on the way.”
Celestia reeled, aghast at this revelation. “Five humans? … Seven with yours.”
Luna shook her head, “It seems that the odds for human and pony are about fifty fifty. Pinkie has had two human daughters, but Rainbow's second was a filly.”
“That's ...”
“I like Momma Dashie's filly! She smells SO much better than my sister, and she can FLY!” the curly brown haired girl laughed, her voice and laugh so much like her mother's that Celestia would swear the pink pony was in the room.
“You can't blame him,” Luna said quietly, “A large portion of our time is spent 'together' you know.”
Celestia raised a hoof, “No, no, please. Stop. I understand quite well. I'll look over Pete's proposal and get to work on what I can.”
Luna nodded and said her good byes, taking the children with her. When Rainbow had come up pregnant the Princess was amazed, when it came out a human boy she was astonished. Now she was rebuilding her race, giving them a home, and this time they wouldn't be shunned. They had magic, they were a part of the world in a way that they weren't before. Luna had wanted this for a long time, thousands and thousands of years. Now it was in reach. With Celestia helping them, with Luna herself watching over the humans, she was sure they would flourish. The world would be complete again, ponies, dragons, zebras, griffons, and humans. All together, the balance restored.
And it was. Over the next several years the humans were reintroduced to society. A small town was built around Pete and his herd's house, and ponies moved in. Few were even afraid of the humans, and the foals that came with the inevitable influx were more curious about the new creatures than afraid. The settlement grew and grew, as did the inhabitants. Before long the humans were having children of their own, and eventually they spread out. There were a few that opposed them, but there was a clear support for them from the government. Equestria became known as home to both humans and ponies, something that Pete was proud to see happen.
