//-------------------------------------------------------// Magic Mirror -by Snowdead123- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Castle Meeting //-------------------------------------------------------// Castle Meeting Twilight sat on the train looking out the window. She stared at the mountains as she passed by. They seemed to go one forever, but she knew they would stop eventually. As they neared Canterlot, she  gazed at the sun, wondering what Celestia wanted to tell her. Then she realized that she shouldn't be staring at the sun. Taking her eyes off the sun, she sank into her seat. "What could be so important that Celestia needed to have me here as soon as I could come?" she whispered to herself. The train pulled up to the station and Twilight climbed off. She wasn't expecting the Princesses guards to be waiting for her. "Hello Ms. Sparkle. The Princess wanted to you to be safe on the way to the castle, so she sent us to meet you at the station." the guard on the left explained. Twilight nodded. Celestia had always wanted to keep her safe ever since she had become a princess. She didn't many real duties, but Celestia made sure to keep her busy studying. Twilight was smart enough to know that Celestia was only keeping her busy so she wouldn't have the chance to be harmed. She was the Princesses successor, after all. This was the first time in awhile that Celestia had her leave the library to do something of major importance. The guards led her to the castle. On her way, she pondered the possibilities of what the Princess wanted to tell her, and what she might have to do. She was interrupted by the guard announcing that they had made it to the castle. Twilight walked through the gate to the castle courtyard. She passed by all the other guards, some of which greeted her by calling her Princess Twilight Sparkle. She usually didn't mind it, but coming from a guard was strange and unnerving. She wasn't used to be called a princess, even by guards. And they were CELESTIA'S guards. She didn't have guards of her own. Celestia suggested and insisted she get her own guards, but she refused and said she could handle things on her own. She had managed to do things on her own before becoming a princess, and not much has changed to her. Everypony else treats her differently, even when she tries to tell them not to. It made her sad to think that ponies treated her different, despite the fact that she hasn't really changed all that much. Even her friends sometimes treated her like royalty, and it annoyed her slightly. She didn't have time to think about this, however. She was to busy meeting the princess for an important matter _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Celestia sat in the thrown room waiting for her sister. She sat in silence, but she thought about many things at once. The one thing on her mind was Luna's decision to reveal the mirror to Twilight. Though she didn't agree with the choice. she knew it was the right thing to do. Twilight should know. It was the biggest secret that they kept from the world. The were the only ones who knew about it, and it was a horrible secret to keep. Deep down, Celestia wanted to shout it to the world that the mirror exist. To tell everyone that this horrible thing was real, and that it could be so dangerous. She wanted to destroy it, but Luna would kill her if she did. It was Luna's most valuable possession, and she loved it, despite what it could do. Only she would decide when to destroy it, and that could be thousands of years away. Only telling Twilight could change that. However, Luna had different plans for telling Twilight about the mirror. Luna sat in her room, thinking about the mirror. It was a nightmare, but she couldn't let it go. She wanted it to be good, but it wasn't. She couldn't deny it, but she couldn't bring herself to destroy it either. It was too dear to her to rid the world of it. Celetsia would never understand why she loved so much, no matter how she explained it. She only wanted Twilight to know the truth about it by experience, not by explanation. Simply telling her about the mirror wouldn't show her what the mirror could do. Not just the bad things, but the good things as well. It could be such an amazing thing if Celestia gave it the chance. She always doubted the power of it, but she could only think of the negative qualities. "I should be going to see my sister soon." she said to herself. And with that, she rose from her seat and walked off to the thrown room. Celestia continued to wait, wondering when her little sister was going to show up. Then, she came into the thrown room, standing lower than usual. Celestia looked at her sister and knew she was nervous by the way she held herself. "You're worried about telling Twilight, aren't you?" she asked. Luna nodded. She stared at the floor, knowing what she was about to put Twilight through. //-------------------------------------------------------// Through the Mirror //-------------------------------------------------------// Through the Mirror Twilight walked into the thrown room of the her mentor and princess. She looked at princess Celestia, who seemed nervous. "What's wrong, princess?" she asked worriedly. Celestia sighed. She slowly walked towards Twilight, quietly. With every step, she regretted having to do this to her faithful student. "Twilight, I have an..... assignment for you. It will not be easy, but I am confident you can do it..." she said. Celestia's star student looked up at her, and she knew that Twilight would do anything she asked of her, no matter what the cost. At least, as long as her friends were okay. The assignment is for you to go into another world. I know you are not familiar with this, but you have the power of friendship to aid your journey. The world is one of Luna's old favorites, and she used to venture there years ago, before Nightmare Moon. But, now that Nightmare Moon existed in our world, it exists in the other, too. In the other world, Nightmare Moon rules over Equestria in eternal night. The Elements of Harmony are lost, and the evil of the world grows stronger. It threatens to seep through the cracks and take over this world. I need you to go in and stop it." she finished explaining. Twilight was more confused than she ever had been in her life, but she had one question on her mind. "How do I get there?" she asked. "Its some magic spell or a secret door or something, right?" she asked. Celestia nodded. " Actually, its a mirror. A magic mirror. In it, it holds the reflection of your world, the way it isn't and could never be. When the wars in Equestria raged against other nations, the mirror would be at peace, and it tended to stay that way. Luna would always use it to escape the evils of our world, because there, she could be happy and wouldn't have to fight. When Discord took over and we fought him, she would go into the mirror. In that world, he didn't destroy harmony, only annoyed it. Everyone was happy. Even Chrysalis and Sombra weren't evil. Luna spent most of her time there, but then she became Nightmare Moon, the evil of her was so powerful that Luna's love for the mirror was corrupt. The Luna of that world was 10 times as bad. She killed that world's Celestia. She killed everypony who disobeyed her. When I sent Nightmare to the moon, the other world's Nightmare moon grew more powerful. She made sure that there could be no Elements of Harmony to stop her, and that meant killing me, the original Element bearer. You and your friends never met, and therefore could never stop her. I need you to fix that world." she said, sadly. Twilight was sure this mirror was the most dangerous, evil, magical thing owned by Princess Luna. Speaking of Luna, where was she? "Um... Princess, where is Luna? Shouldn't she be helping you explain? It is her mirror after all." Twilight wondered aloud. "I am over here Twilight." spoke Luna. Suddenly, Luna appeared out of no where. She had been using an invisibility spell to listen. "I wanted to be sure you didn't scream or run away from the thought of having to go in there. No worries, though. I am going with you." she announced. Celestia gasped. "You are not going in there Luna. I will not have you going to that world. Twilight is perfectly capable of doing it on her own." she commanded. Luna sighed. "Sister, you and I both know Twilight is still young, and she has only just become a princess. I know that world, and I know what it can do to somepony. I am going with her." Luna insisted. And she was right. Twilight was too young to be able to do it on her own. Luna has more experience with this world than anypony else. Plus, she knows how Nightmare moon thinks. Celestia couldn't deny that her little sister had a good point. Twilight would need somepony to guide her. Luna was their best bet. "I guess I can't stop you. Just be careful then." Celestia said reluctantly. She didn't want Luna or Twilight to go, but she had no choice. No other pony can do it, not even herself. She didn't know anything about it other than what Luna has told her, but she would never understand Luna's love for it. Princess Luna led Twilight and Celestia to the room where the Mirror is kept. No pony can go in without her permission, not even Celestia. Only Luna can open the lock. She closed her eyes and focused on unlocking the door, but it took some effort. She hadn't gone into the room since she became Nightmare Moon. The spell wasn't difficult, but only she could do it. Finally, the lock gave in and the door opened. Inside was a giant cavernous space filled with nothing but the mirror. The walls were made of stone and crystals. The floor was shinning and the entire room was beautiful. Luna was all too familiar with the room, and took little notice to its beauty. All she was focused on was the mirror that lay in the middle of the floor. It had a sheet covering the glass. And she clearly remembered why. Twilight approached the mirror with excitement and fear. She wanted to get this over with, but at the same time, she wanted to see what was in that world, and where she was. Knowing herself, she was probably working out a way to defeat Nightmare Moon. She grabbed onto the sheet and pulled. "Twilight, wai-" Luna was too late to warn Twilight. The reflection in the mirror was one of Twilight Sparkle, but she was sad and broken looking. She wasn't an alicorn, nor was she powerful. She looked as though she never seen anything better than a pile of dirty hay, and to her, that was a highlight. The alicorn Twilight cringed at the image of herself. It was depressing and worthless. Luna walked behind her. As she did, the image of Nightmare Moon showed up on the mirror. As Luna placed her hoof on Twilight's shoulder, the mirror was Nightmare Moon striking Twilight and beating her down, laughing at the broken mare. Celestia would have comforted Twilight, but she was afraid of what she would see. In the other world she was dead. Her image would be a skeleton or a corpse, rotting. Twilight took and deep breath. "I'm ready." she said. Luna nodded and slowly, she began to cast the spell. The glass of the mirror turned to a liquid and spilled down from the sliver and black frame. Inside was darkness and smoke. Twilight slowly walked into it, unknowing of what was on the other side. Luna followed, but Celestia spoke first. "Be safe, sister. I love you." she whispered. "I love you too, Tia." said Luna, smiling sadly. With that, she galloped into the mirror after Twilight, as the liquid mirror turned solid again, setting itself into the frame. //-------------------------------------------------------// New Equestria and Eternal Night //-------------------------------------------------------// New Equestria and Eternal Night Twilight felt as if her body was being torn apart and burned as she fell through the darkness. It was a pain that was so real, yet seemed far away. Like she knew the pain was being felt, but her body was choosing not to feel it. It almost felt numb. "I wonder how Luna was able to suffer so much pain whenever she went through the mirror. Maybe after awhile you just stop feeling it, or maybe, because she is an alicorn, she can't feel the pain. Either way, Twilight was sure that, over a thousand years ago, this world was worth it. Now, she wasn't so sure. The end of the dark tunnel came and went and she could feel herself falling through the air, the hitting the floor. She landed with a hard thud. The floor was cold and harder than that of her worlds Canterlot palace floors. They were nice and Twilight didn't hit them when she walked through mirrors. Then again, she didn't walk through mirrors often. She came to the realization that she should probably move before Luna- "OW!" shouted Twilight as the large dark blue alicorn landed on top of her. Luna sat for a few seconds, looking around the room, confused. "Twilight? Are you here yet?" she ask to the seemingly empty room. She heard a painful moan from below her. She quickly stood up, letting Twilight out from under her. Twilight's head hurt from falling and from being sat on by a princess. She rubbed her head and looked around the dark room, being illuminated by only by Luna magic. They both looked around and couldn't see the mirror. Luna look up slowly, seeing that mirror had been nailed to the ceiling. No normal pony could fly through it. You had to have wings, but only magic could open it. So, you either had to be an alicorn or be a pegasus with a unicorn on your back. Thank heavens they were both alicorns. Luna directed her attention to a big wooden door. The door had a lock that could easily be opened by unicorn magic, but they weren't sure that should go out just yet. If Luna knew Nightmare Moon, and she did, Nightmare Moon would have guards walking around, watching for trespassers. They would definitely tell Nightmare Moon. It was hard to miss two alicorns when the only alicorn is the ruler herself, and, when brought to Nightmare Moon, Luna would be recognized and probably killed. Luna scanned the room for something to cover their wings with. She spotted a coat rack in the far corner. On it were a few coats and dresses. She walked over to them with Twilight following behind. "We need to hide our wings." she explained. Twilight levitated a winter coat from the rack and a small messenger bag. She put the coat on and bag over it. She looked over at Luna who was still looking for a coat big enough for her. Then she realized something important that they must have over looked. "Twilight, I may be too big not to draw attention. The other ponies will definitely notice how big I am compared to the rest of them, and I will probably be caught." She said to her purple companion. "I need to use a disguise spell to make myself smaller and fix my hair so that it isn't so..... unnatural." The spell started small as her light blue aura wrapped around her. It grew brighter and bigger. The color changed from blue to dark green. Her coat color became silver and her mane jet black. The spell finished and she was a completely new mare. She was a smaller alicorn, but her wings weren't needed. She didn't have the capacity for her magic, but she was still powerful. About as powerful as Twilight. She walked over to the coat rack and picked up a gray coat. She pulled it on and looked over at Twilight. They both had the same idea. At the same time, they cast an invisibility spell. The guards wouldn't see them and they could sneak through the palace without being caught. The spell was cast, and they were no longer visible to the other ponies. Only they could see each other. They threw the door open. The two guards positioned outside the door looked over. "Who's there?" one guard asked to the empty space. Nopony answered. He walked over and closed the door. "I wonder what cause the door to open." the second wondered aloud. "Probably the wind. Its been getting windier lately. Blew it open I suppose" he said, shrugging. They dropped the conversation and continued their guarding, unaware of the two alicorns presence. Luna ran and Twilight followed after, not daring to stray far from the moon princess. They stopped outside the exit. Two guards chatted about Nightmare Moon. "I haven't seen her around her for a few days. I wonder where she is." the first guard said. "I heard she was planning some attack. Don't know who she would attack though. Not many ponies would put up a fight." they said, laughing nervously. They were scared of her, just as they should be. Still they worked for her, probably to get on her good side. She wasn't a pony you wanted to mess with. Twilight and Luna ran by them, and into the city. They would need to get far from the palace to remove the spell. They walked into an alley way and removed their spells. Luna and Twilight sat, thinking about what they should do next. Twilight looked up into the dark night sky. The moon was big and bright, just like the stars. If this wasn't eternal night, it would be beautiful. That's all Nightmare Moon had wanted, right? For people to enjoy her night. Luna could have thought of a plan faster, but the lack of light was making it hard to think. the only light in this alley came from a flower. A flower? Luna looked over at it. The green stem was darker than usual, but the petals were literally glowing. The little flower was casting a bright pink light. She looked around her. A small tree stood outside the alley. On the tree were small fruits. The fruits were glowing red. The plants had evolved. They were the lights that made the world tolerable. She thought about how, even though the night lasted forever, things could still be beautiful. "Hey, princess? I thought maybe we could find a train to Ponyville. Its the fasted way to get there." She waited for Luna's comment. "Princess? Luna?" she said turning to look at Luna. She saw here looking down at a small glowing flower. "Twilight, look at this." she whispered, pointing a hoof at the glowing light. "The plants glow. And the fruits on trees glow, too." Twilight looked at the tree Luna was talking about. She was right, the fruits were glowing. "So, about the train?" Luna said. Twilight snapped back into serious mode. "Yes, we should find a train. Its the best way to get there. You know, besides flying." she said. "Well, we'll have to find one. Besides, we have all night." said Luna. Twilight laughed at her joke. "Your sense of humor really lightens up the conversation." Twilight joked. They laughed for a few seconds before returning to serious mode. "Okay, we should start looking now." decided Luna. Twilight nodded, and they were off to find a train, find other Twilight, find the elements, and take down Nightmare Moon. //-------------------------------------------------------// The Great and Powerful Train ride //-------------------------------------------------------// The Great and Powerful Train ride Twilight Sparkle and Princess Luna managed to find a map of Canterlot in a garbage can outside of Donut Joe's donut shop. Both of them knew the way around Canterlot in thier world, but here could be completely different, so a map would be useful. Twilight held the map up with her magic and scanned it for a train station. The city looked pretty much the same as her Canterlot, but with some small differences. "Now that we know where the train is, we should get going. I don't know what time it is here, but it should be open 24 hours. " said Twilight, eager to go to Ponyville. "Okay, Twilight. The train station should be just a few blocks away. That shouldn't take too long." replied Luna. They ran off in the direction of the train station. Half way there, they started to hear the sounds of the train, like it was pulling up to the station. They sprinted to catch the next train to Ponyville, and they hoped it was the one that was about to leave. They rounded a corner and ran towards the train. "TRAIN TO PONYVILLE LEAVES IN 5 MINUTES!" yelled the conductor. Twilight and Luna had time to get tickets and make their way onto the train. "Two... tickets... for Ponyville..." said Luna, gasping for breath. She and Twilight looked like they had run half of a marathon, and they felt like it too. Twilight wished to air out her wings, but she knew why she couldn't do that. The pony behind the glass in the booth slid the tickets under the glass as Luna slid the bits under to the ticket pony. They exchanged the bits for the tickets and walked over to the train. "Okay, now we get on the train and go to Ponyville. We need to find those elements and the holders." Luna explained. "This worlds Twilight would probably still be in Canterlot, or she would go to Ponyville for another reason other than making friends." Luna decided. "Hopefully she went to find something to stop Nightmare Moon." Twilight and Luna sat down in a row for three ponies. So far, no other ponies sat next to them. As the train began to leave the station, a blue pony in a gray cloak like outfit joined them in the seat. The hood of the cloak was over her head, so Twilight couldn't see her face. However, Twilight did see her cutie mark. "Excuse me, but would your name be Trixie?" she asked the blue mare. The pony's hooves grabbed her hood and pulled it down, revealing she is in fact Trixie. "How did you know?" the pony asked. "Are you psychic?" she said, smiling. Twilight was surprised when the last comment wasn't arrogant or snobby sounding. This world's Trixie didn't seem to be mean at all. "I guess I am psychic." Twilight laughed. Trixie laughed as well. "Well, some ponies would know me as the Great and Powerful Trixie, but only when I'm working." she said. Twilight was curious of what job other than show business would use that name. She figured since Trixie didn't seem like the same Trixie, she might not have the same job. "What work do you do?" Twilight asked, interested in this other Trixie. "I entertain for school ponies and the elderly at Ponyville retirement home. They get bored when the only cool thing to do there is star gaze. All you have to do is look out your window for that." she said, obviously annoyed by the sky. It never changed. The moon stayed the same and the stars didn't move. After a thousand years that would get boring. Then, Twilight remembered Trixie said she entertained at the retirement home. She might know something about this world's Twilight, but wouldn't she have recogni- "Don't you live in Ponyville?" asked Trixie. "Aren't you Twilight Sparkle? The pony in charge of the library?" she questioned. Twilight couldn't say no. Trixie seemed to know this world's Twilight, or at least to a certain extent. She probably has gone to the Ponyville library and seen Twilight there. "Yes. I just wanted to go to Canterlot to..." she looked around, trying to think of something to say. Her eye wondered to Luna. "Oh! I went to Canterlot to get my friend Luna. She wanted to visit me in Ponyville." she lied. Trixie seemed satisfied with that answer for the time being. Twilight needed to talk to Luna in privacy. "Um... Luna we should go to the bathroom. Don't want to waste time going to the bathroom in Ponyville when I could be showing you around."said Twilight, grabbing Luna's hoof and pulling her to the back of the train. She dragged her along to the bathroom and pushed her through the door. She locked the door and took a deep breath. "Okay, we need to find me and get her to make friends and find the elements and I need to remember my story so I don't mess up and get caught lying." Twilight rushed the words out. "Then we need to convince Apple Jack, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, and Fluttershy that they are the elements and that they are meant to be friends so we can stop Nightmare Moon and go home-" Luna put her hand on Twilight's shoulder. "TWILIGHT! Calm down. It is easier than it sounds. You know these ponies, you are the element of magic for crying out loud! If anypony can do it, its you!" she yelled. Twilight sighed and closed her eyes. "I know. I'm just nervous about this mission. We have to stop Nightmare Moon, and that's not an easy task." Twilight sighed. She knew deep down that she could do it, but she was always paranoid when it came to things like this. "I know Twilight, but, if you remember, I was Nightmare Moon. I know how she thinks. You have nothing to worry about." said Luna, smiling. Twilight smiled back, Luna's words reassuring her. Twilight nodded. The walked out of the bathroom and back to their seats. Trixie was sitting sleeping in her window seat, so Twilight wouldn't have to talk to her anymore. She didn't want to risk slipping up and getting caught. So for the rest of the train ride, Twilight and Luna sat in silence, thinking over how difficult this task would actually be, and hoping Trixie didn't wake up. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Celestia sat in the cavernous room that contained the mirror wondering how her student and sister were doing. She considered going in herself to help them, but she couldn't risk being caught and killed. Her kingdom needed her and she wouldn't get killed doing something her sister and Twilight could do without her. She wouldn't have sent them in if she weren't confident they would be okay. But, as it usually does, curiosity got the better of her. She wanted to see what she looked like in the mirror. She knew it would be something grotesque, considering she was dead there, but maybe she was just a long buried skeleton. She couldn't shake the feeling that the mirror gave her. It seemed to call her over. It said "Come look, gaze into the reflection." its voice was soft and sweet, like how a mother would talk to her child. She slowly walked over to the mirror. It's voice grew louder and louder until she couldn't wait any longer. She stood in front of the mirror, her image hazy. She wasn't expecting this at all. This couldn't be, it just couldn't. In the mirror stood Princess Celestia living and breathing reflection. //-------------------------------------------------------// Twilight Gets a Letter //-------------------------------------------------------// Twilight Gets a Letter Twilight Sparkle sat at a table reading up on alicorn spells. Since she was princess now she had many new tasks to take care of. One of them was to study spells to become a more powerful alicorn. It was getting late and she was tired. She was about to put the book up and go to bed when Spike ran in from the other room. "Twilight! TWILIGHT! I have a letter from the Princess!" he yelled. She turned towards him and levitated the scroll towards her. She read it aloud: Dear Twilight Sparkle, My dear student, I think it's time you and me had a discussion about your new responsibilities as a princess. I am writing you this letter to inform you that we must meet at the castle as soon as possible. I have to show you something very important that will change your view on the world of magic. Your mentor, Princess Celestia. She rolled the scroll up and turned to Spike. "Okay Spike, I need your help with packing. I want to make sure I have everything I can possibly need visiting the princess." she finished. Spike ran into another room and returned with a suitcase. He threw the suitcase onto the table. "Spike I am making a checklist." she said. Spike took out a quill and parchment. "Book on Enchanted Spells, Flashcards, quills," she named many more things and finally finished. "Check!" said Spike. He looked at her and handed her the list. She placed it in the suitcase and closed it shut. Twilight yawned, causing Spike to yawn as well. She walked up to her bed. "Goodnight, Spike." she said, pulling the covers over herself.
