A Proposal and A Plan

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Rainbow Dash met Twilight at the café the next morning. Dash hadn’t told Twilight that she needed advice once more, but Twilight suspected something was up based on how fidgety Dash was at the table. She stirred milk into her coffee and waited patiently for Dash to speak up.

“I think Applejack wants to get married.”

The spoon bent in Twilight’s hand. “You’re joking. You’ve been dating for, what, a week?”

“A week and two days. I know! I don’t know what got into her! I mean,” she lowered her voice, “one minute she’s giving me the best orgasm of my life, and I make a joke about wanting to marry her, the next moment she’s talking seriously about it!”

“How seriously?”

Dash thought back to the previous night. Dash had brought the subject up again as they were drying off. “You’re joking, right? About getting married, I mean.”

“Not really. Us Apples don’t really wait too long for anything. We see what we want and we just grab it! That’s how it’s always been.”

“But we’ve been dating for a week!”

“My parents dated for a month before my Dad proposed.”

“Yeah but…” Dash dropped the subject at that point, too afraid to bring it up again. She didn’t even know how to respond at this point.

Twilight looked serious. “That’s… pretty worrying.” She sipped her coffee. “What are you going to do about it?”

Dash looked exasperated. “That’s why I came to you! Give me advice, damn it!”

Twilight crossed her arms with a sigh. “Fine. I see two options. Number one: tell AJ you don’t want to get married. At least, not so soon. You’re new to this ’commitment’ thing, after all. Two: get married.”

“Gee, thanks Twi. You make it so damn clear.” The sarcasm in her voice was palpable.

“I’m serious Rainbow. You always overthink things. If you look at it analytically you’ll see how simple the situation is. Either you take the plunge or you don’t.”

“I guess…” She seemed unconvinced.

“Unless…” Twilight leaned in. “Unless you’re actually considering getting married.”

Dash avoided her gaze.

“Oh my gosh.” Twilight’s hand shot to her mouth in shock. “Oh my gosh you are!”

“I mean… not really! It’s just… I really do like her! No, I love her! I really do. Marrying her… it doesn’t sound so bad… in a way.”

They sat in an awkward silence.

“Rainbow… I’m not going to say it. If it’s what you want to do, then I’ll support you. But I’m not going to say it, so you won’t have someone to blame if you change your mind. No matter what you want to do, you have to be the one to make this decision.”

Dash didn’t get an easy solution from Twilight that day, but she still felt like she had helped immeasurably.

The next evening, Applejack found herself in Dash’s dining room, not quite sure what was going on. The lights were low, there were candles on the table, the tableware looked fancy enough to belong to Rarity, and Dash was cooking dinner herself. Dash’s normal diet consisted mostly of protein bars, granola, and salad, so AJ wasn’t sure what to expect. She was slightly underwhelmed when dinner turned out to be spaghetti and meatballs.

Dash seemed more nervous than she should be. “Sorry it’s just pasta. I don’t really know how to cook anything else.”

“It’s alright, RD. The fact that you made it is what’s important. But uh… why the candles and the fancy plates?”

“I just wanted a romantic dinner, no big deal.” She seemed to be avoiding the question, so AJ let it go. It was a pleasant enough meal, but Dash remained quiet throughout. Once the plates were clear, AJ made a move to clean up.

“Hold on. I uh… I wanna say something…” Dash was looking at her feet, red in the face. AJ sat back down, worried.

Rainbow Dash got to her feet and kneeled next to AJ. She took AJ’s hands in hers, and gazed into her eyes.

“Applejack… The past week… it’s been… I haven’t been so happy since… since I don’t even know when. You’ve shown me that I can be committed… and for the first time… for the first time I think I really feel true love.”

AJ blushed. “Dash, I-“

“Will you marry me?”

AJ froze in her seat. After a moment of silence, Dash tried to break the ice.

“I mean, I don’t have a ring yet… but I can get one! I didn’t know what kind you would want so…”

“Dash… are you serious?”

“Yeah. I really am. AJ, will you marry me?”

“Hell no!”

This time it was Dash who was frozen on the spot. “But… but you said…”

“I was just teasing you! You always tease me, so I was trying to get you back!”

“But… your parents got married after-“

“After dating for three years! I thought you caught on that I was joking!”

Dash stood up, indignantly. “Well I clearly didn’t! Thanks for making me look like an idiot!” She stormed off to her room, slamming the door behind her.

AJ got up and cleared the dishes. She washed and dried in silence, giving Dash time to cool down. Once she was done, she knocked gently on the bedroom door.

“Go ‘way.”

“Nope. I’m coming in.” She entered the bedroom to find Dash face-down on the mattress. She sat down next to her, and placed a hand on her back. “I’m sorry I tricked you like that. It was cruel.”

“Mmm-hmm.”

“Dash… I want you to know that I love you, okay? You proposing… well it scared me mostly. But it also made me really happy. I’m happy to know that you feel like you can take the plunge with me. Honestly.”

Dash rolled over so she could look up at Applejack. “I only did it because I thought you were serious. I mean, it’s not like I don’t want to. I… I really do wanna marry you, AJ. I thought about it all day yesterday, and…”

“Well… how about this? Give it a year. If we’re still together in a year, and we still love each other this much, then you can ask me and I’ll say yes.” She leaned down and kissed Dash on the forehead.

“Okay. It’s a deal.”

The next day Rainbow Dash swung by Twilight’s house to pick up the next book in the Darin Doo series; Daring Doo and the Mystery of the Great Hullabaloo. While she was there, she gave Twilight the good news.

“So you’re engaged to be engaged? You’re pre-engaged?”

“Well… more like planning to be engaged if things continue to go well. Possibly pre-engaged.”

“Okaaaay… that’s odd. But, Dash... are you really okay with this?"

Dash blinked in confusion. "What do you mean?"

"Well..." Twilight was approaching the subject as carefully as possible. "I just hope you don't feel... pressured. I mean, you don't really have the best track record with commitment..."

"I know that!"

Twilight put up her hands. "I'm not saying that to be mean or anything! I just don't want you to make a terrible mistake because you rushed into things!"

"I know I don't have the best record on commitment. Trust me, I know that. But I want to get better. I want to get better because I don't want to fuck things up with AJ. I... I love her."

Twilight sighed in relief and pulled Dash into a hug, "Then I'll support you 100%."

Suddenly, Pinkie Pie burst in through the front door. “I was passing by and I heard the word ‘engaged!’ Did I hear the word ‘engaged?’ Who’s getting engaged? Is it you Twilie? I bet it’s you!” She pulled the two girls apart and gripped Twilight in a tight hug of her own. “Tell me all about it!”

“No Pinkie… not me.” She wormed out of Pinkie’s vice-like grip. “I don’t even have a boyfriend, geeze. It’s Rainbow Dash and Applejack.”

Pinkie’s face went blank. “Wh-whaaaaaaaaat?”

Dash jumped into the conversation. “We’re not really engaged! I asked her to marry me because I thought she wanted me to but she said not yet, so we’re like, pre-engaged. If we’re still together in a year then we’re getting married. Only then!”

Pinkie’s smile returned, but her eyes teared up at the same time. “I’m s-s-s-so happy for yoooooooou!” She broke out crying and made to grab Dash in a bear hug, which she narrowly avoided. “I w-w-w-wanna get m-m-m-m-marrieeeeeeeed!” She began crying in earnest.

Dash patted her friend on the shoulder. “Pinkie… you wouldn’t survive one day married.”

Suddenly, the tears stopped as if they had never been there. “You’re right Dashie! Thanks!”

Twilight cleared her throat, anxious to change the subject. “So anyways Dash, AJ’s birthday is in two months. Any plans?”

“Um, not really. I mean, Pinkie always sets up the parties, so-“

“No Dash! That’s no good!” Twilight was suddenly an inch from Dash. “You’re dating now! You have to do something romantic!”

“Really? I… I didn’t think this far ahead. But this is Applejack we’re talking about! She like simple things, not… big romantic gestures. Right?”

“Wrong Dash. All girls love big romantic gestures, even if they don’t realize it! You need to do something for her.”

“Oh no, you guys!” Pinkie jumped up between them. “AJ is gonna be in Appleoosa for a few weeks to help on her cousin’s farm! She’s not gonna get back until right before her birthday! That means we hafta do something totally amazingly awesome! Dash! What’s AJ’s number one sex fantasy?”

“Wha- I don’t know! She’s new to girls, I doubt she even has one!”

Pinkie gave Dash a sad look, like she couldn’t believe what she was saying. “Dash, everyone has a number one sex fantasy! Like Twilight! She wants to hook up with princess Celestia!”

“NO I DON’T PINKIE!”

It took some doing, but Dash finally got the info she needed from AJ. She approached the subject stealthily, like a wolf stalking her prey. One night when they were lying in bed, Dash approached the topic.

“Hey AJ, you know what would be awesome?”

“What?”

“To see you wearing a Wonderbolt uniform!”

“Why would I wear that?”

“It would be totally sexy! I always wanted to bang a Wonderbolt! And you’ve got the perfect body for it!”

“I do not! I’m bulkier than you speedsters! Heck, I can’t even fly!”

“That doesn’t matter, it’s a fantasy! Like, you don’t have to be a cop to wear a police costume! It’s the same thing. And I think your body is perfect.” She rolled over and kissed AJ’s muscular stomach.

“Knock it off, you. Why do you want me to dress up anyways?”

“N-no reason. I just suddenly thought it would be cute, is all. You never thought about dressing up, or role-playing?”

“Not really. I like having sex with you as is. Besides, I’m still figuring it all out.”

Dash flopped over dramatically. “Boooooooring. I don’t remember having such a boring girlfriend, but maybe she’s just getting old and stuck in her ways.”

AJ struck Dash’s face with a pillow without even looking. “Well fine, little miss sex freak. If I thought about it… maybe you would look cute dressed like a nurse.”

“What… like wearing scrubs?”

“No! Those white shirts n’ skirts they used to wear. With the little cap. It would be cute.”

Dash gave herself a mental once-over. She was short and tan, with well-defined leg and arm muscles, and an otherwise skinny frame. She had no ass and barely any breasts. Her hair barely reached past her ears, (ugh I need a haircut soon) and she had multiple ear piercings, not to mention the stud in her lower lip and the ring through her septum. She was pretty much the opposite of the ‘sexy nurse’ stereotype. If anybody fit the role, it would probably be demure, big-breasted Fluttershy, but there was no way you could get Fluttershy to wear something so embarrassing.

“How the hell would I look cute in that? I don’t have the right look for it at all.”

“That’s what would be so cute! You an’ your punk girl personality wearing a cute little nurse’s outfit, oh and your glasses! That would be so cute!”

“I think you’re confusing ‘cute’ with ‘awkward,’ AJ.”

Great, she thought to herself. Now I’m gonna have to go to the sex shop with Pinkie and try on costumes. She didn’t have to go with Pinkie, per se, but if Pinkie ever found out that a friend went to the sex shop without her, she would never forgive them.
