Source of Content- Twilight Sparkle Journal Entry 01- Small Beginnings –– 59 Days Before Incident Small Beginnings. I must be out of my mind. I fear that I might be making the same mistake Fluttershy did when she brought the Parasprite into her home. I keep telling myself that I won't get carried away with it, that I'll keep things under control. I hope I'm right. When this thing dropped on the path while I was leaving Zeroca's place, I was about to walk right past it. I had thought it was an insect, but as I got closer I could see it definitely was not. I've never seen anything like it. He was so incredibly small- maybe an inch long. I feared that if I left him he'd get stepped on or worse yet, a hungry animal might come by. So I levitated him in the air and carried him home. He's in my basement lab for the moment and I promised myself that I wouldn't keep him for too long. Currently I'm unsure what stage in life he is, however I am hoping that he does turn out to be a newborn. Needless to say, I am very excited for what the future holds. Journal Entry 02- Initial Findings–– 54 Days Before Incident My Initial Findings. "What is this thing?" I've asked this question to myself countless times in the past few days. The creature I found a week ago was too small to be observed effectively by my naked eye, so my microscope came in handy. At first glance it seems to be very normal. A head, four, legs, a tail, a very feline-esque body style. But upon further inspection the more interesting details emerged. On its head I could see no eyes, yet it seems to be very aware of its surroundings while walking. It avoided any obstacles in its path and found the water and food dishes I set up quickly. Whether this is due to a hightened sense of smell or some other sense is unknown to me at this time, but it is something I will definitely look into. Also it very gingerly eats the food I provide. Water seems to be what this creature enjoys. I watched a little less than a gallon of water disappear down his tiny throat. Journal Entry 03 Waste–– 48 Days Before Incident Waste. Yesterday I observed him push his solid food into his water dish. He then waited for a while until it became mushy. Thats when he started to drink the mixture up. My guess is that he has no teeth, although hes too small and won't let me get close enough to check. I had also been wondering where all of his waste had been going. When I first brought him here I set up a box filled with dirt in a corner of the lab. I wasn't really expecting him to use it, but to my surprise I could smell a slight odor coming from it. With a spade I dug into it and found his droppings. It left me dumbfounded. How would something I found in the Everfree know the difference between defecating in a box and on the floor? Could it just be instinct to bury his waste? That seems plausible for now. Weird, but worth noting. Journal Entry 04- Growth–– 41 Days Before Incident Growth. I now feel that this definitely warrants a trip to the Canterlot Library or maybe even the Crystal Empire Library. The more I observe this creature, the more questions I have and none of the books I found upstairs had any information about him. It has increased its body size by at least eight fold in the past few days. He now comes in at a little under a foot in length, however most of that is his hairless straight tail. My attempt at weighing him have been met with resistance as he clearly doesn't like being handled by me. While running he is very quick and manuverable and can easily jump from the floor to my desk three feet off the ground–– more than three times his body height. On another note, the claws on its paws are starting to become sharper. I've experienced them first hand on an attempt to grab him. Thankfully, I'm not hurt and he still continues to show no aggression towards me, nevertheless it is a constant reminder to always stay cautious of him. I can't forget that he is still a wild animal. Oh one more thing, the view I had on one particular jump of his, was enough to confirm that he is in fact male. Journal Entry 05- More Physical Characteristics–– 34 Days before incident More Physical Charateristics. Ok so there have been a lot of changes since my last entry. Firstly hes grown a lot more and I do mean a lot. Its only been a few days and he's clearly more than doubled in length. By my best estimate I'd say hes over two feet long now and just under a foot tall. I still don't know how much he weighs, but he makes a considerable thud when he jumps off of things. My best estimate would put him somewhere near Spike's weight. Speaking of which, his jumping is becoming somewhat of a problem. He can jump over me now with even a little room to spare. I've come downstairs to the lab to find most everything knocked over. His claws are also getting sharper. Hes's propelled himself unto a row of pipes on the ceiling by digging his claws in the wall and climbing straight up it. Now that hes swinging those around I've given up trying to handle him. The most interesting thing however is his head. I forgot to add this in my last entry, but I have confirmed that he is in fact blind. In place of his eyes are 22 small black pits on the top and sides of his head. Now I've read about some types of snakes with similar pits that can literally see heat. It would provide a good explanation of why he can be so aware of whats around him. The pits could allow him to see infrared light. Lastly I've finally made up mind to go to the Canterlot Library to see if I can find out more about him. Spike, I want to let you know before we start that you are not in trouble of any kind. Everything we've done so far has been for both yours and our protection. We're just trying to get a better understanding of what happened, okay? Spike: *Silience* Shining Armor: Spike? Spike: I...I understand. Shining Armor: Good, then lets begin. How would you describe Twilight Sparkle after March 3rd? Spike: She was... distracted. She would hardly spend time on a task and when we left the house, she always seemed anxious to get back home. I noticed her spending more and more time in her lab. Shining Armor: Did she ever say why? Spike: For a while, no. She only said she was working on something. I trusted she knew what she was doing so I left her alone about it. Shining Armor: Did you ever suspect what she was doing down there? Spike: As time went on yes a little bit. I woke from a nap one day to see her taking food and water down there. She'd been spending so much time down there that I didn't think it was odd that she might want something to eat while she worked. Shining Armor: Anything else? Spike: Yeah, she had pulled a bunch of books by her self and claimed that she didn't need help. I saw later that they all dealt with Equestrian wildlife. I should have put things together, but Twilight reads so many books that I didn't think about it. Shining Armor: Tell me about when Twilight brought you in on this. Spike: It was sometime after March 3rd. She told me that she needed to go to Canterlot and asked me if I could take care of something while she was gone. We went downstairs and thats when I saw it. Shining Armor: Describe him. Spike: He was bigger than me by about a foot and a half, but not as tall. He had a long tail which didn't have any hair. His body looked almost like a cat only a lot more muscular. His head was the weirdest part though. He had a long wide snout and no eyes, just of little holes all over it. Shining Armor: What about his behavior? Was he aggressive? Spike: Not really. When Twilight brought me down he jumped away from me. The entire time she explained the story to me, he just stood at the wall with his head pointing in my direction. It made me nervous but nothing happened. Shining Armor: How was your time watching him? Spike: Twilight was gone for about three days and for the first two he was fine. I brought him his food and water and he always just jumped to the other side of the room. He tried to avoid me and everything was going fine...until the last day. I went to refill his water when I felt a letter coming through. After that I don't know, I guess the flames scared him or something because he freaked out after that. He started jumping and running around and wrecking stuff. I didn't know whether or not he was going to come for me or not so I ran upstairs and locked the door behind me. Shining Armor: *Silence* Shining Armor: You initially said you couldn't remember the events of May 1st. Is this still accurate? Spike: I swear I cannot remember. Journal entries entail Twilight Sparkle's view of the events leading to May 1st, 2xxx. Physical data recovered from building 01, previously known as Ponyville Library. Journal Entry 06- Return Home–– 27 Days Before Incident There is a lot to get to in this entry so I think I'll just start in Canterlot. I spent nearly two days searching for information on the animal. Fortunately for me I'm pretty much granted unrestricted access to the archive's files. Regardless it still was difficult finding any information on him. I had gone through dozens books on Equestrian wildlife, unexplained animal sightings and even books on pony myths. Still I was unsuccessful. That was until a couple hours after lunch on the second day. I decided to take a short break and I looked around for something interesting to read. After reading a couple books on Changeling history, I figured I should read up on the old Gryphon kingdoms as well. Thats when I found something worth looking into. There was a short passage about a Gryphon village that was destroyed a few years after Nightmare Moon was banished. Surviving witnesses reported many different things. Some say they saw a glowing white alicorn, others saw a dragon. However there was just one account of someone who reported seeing a different type of animal. They described it as a cat like animal as large as a house with a long tail. One of their exact words were "something from legend." Now that might have been a little vague, but it was the closest thing I had. I started checking books about Gryphon myths and legends and a few hours later I had something. I found a short passage in a mythology book about something called the Blind Terror. This thing was described almost exactly how the witness did, expect for two things. The book said that the Blind terror was not only blind, but had no eyes whatsoever. I thought that this was it, that I finally had breakthrough. But then I kept reading. He was also described as having large fan-like ears to counter his blindness. The animal in my basement had no ears. This was getting me nowhere. At that point I closed the books and got on the next train home. But, unfortunately I found no comfort there either. Spike was no where to be found when I entered the house. I called and called and when I got not answer I feared something terrible might have happened. I rushed down stairs expecting the worse and what I got was not far off The lab was a mess. Chairs and tables had been broken and tossed across the room, broken glass covered the floor and torn wires sparked on top of them. Thankfully the lights were still on, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to see him. He was crawling around on the row of pipes on the wall. He was "looking" right at me. Even from far away I could tell he was bigger by at least seven or eight inches. His pits seemed enlarged. He intimidated me, but I knew I couldn't leave the lab in its current state. The entire time I cleaned he never turned away from me. He made no moves or signs of aggression, but I still remained wary of him. Eventually Spike came down and explained to me what happened. My best guess is that the sense of the sudden materialization of the letter through his pits frightened him. I didn't blame Spike, but I knew with the unpredictability of the letters that I couldn't have Spike down here anymore. He understood perfectly and gladly left the basement. As soon as the basement was cleaned he jumped down. He is now about half as tall as I am, but with his tail he is much longer. Also there seems to be some developments starting in the end of his tail. I'll watch closely and have more on this later. Journal Entry 07- Tail ––19 Days Before Incident The tail of this animal is becoming very frightening. Over the last week I've watched the last bit of it flatten out and curve into a jagged trianglar point. His tail is powerful enough to knock over desks and chairs if he chooses. Additionally the end of it is clearly very sharp. I have noticed that him brushing it even lightly against and object leaves a deep scrape. He also seems to have more control over it than other animals. I am definitely not going near him with that around. Also I've noticed that he doesn't move his food into his water as much as he used to. I figured that he might have teeth coming in and sure enough I was right. On a yawn I saw his jaw open to what looked to me like an incredible 180 degrees. Im pretty sure I could see the smallest bit of a tooth peeking through his gums. If he does have teeth on the way he will most likely be consuming even more food. Currently he goes through a 25lb bag of food in about two days. This amount has been steadily increasing over the past few weeks to fuel his massive growth spurts. In maybe a month I predict that he'll be eating 50lbs in a day. Spike still isn't coming down to the lab. He helps with his food, but he won't even go near the basement door. Im glad he's being so cautious. I couldn't stand to see him hurt even on accident. On a last note he's grown about another foot and a half bringing him in at around six feet or so. He's a big guy. Journal Entry 08- I Was Wrong–– 11 Days Before Incident I woke up in the middle of the night a few days ago to a loud constant rattle. It was coming from the basement. I went down there and saw that the animal was gnawing on a pipe on the ceiling. When he turned to me I could see the shiny white tips of teeth coming through. There are so many of them! There has to be at least 200 of the small little things. So many of them in his mouth make him look frightening. I was about to retreat when I guess he sensed it was me. He closed his mouth and jumped down with a loud thud. His new teeth have greatly raised his appetite and thus proved my previous prediction wrong. Yesterday he ate nearly 75 pounds of food and washed it down with three gallons of water. Hes grown about two more feet since my last entry. It truly is amazing. I know that soon he will be too big to stay in my basement. Maybe in a week or so I'll invite Fluttershy over and fill her in very slowly on the situation. I know she probably won't want to take him, but I'm hoping that she'll at least know a private place where I can keep him. As a reminder to myself: He sliced a cable bundle with his tail and about 1/4 of the basements lights are out. I need to replace immediately. Journal Entry 09- Selfishness–– 24 Hours Before Incident This is the last entry in this journal. I've been doing some thinking over the past few days and I've realized the horrible thing I'm doing. I've had a complete change of heart and I feel so guilty about it. I thought about how Fluttershy would react to seeing this animal. Once I thought past her initial frightened reaction I realized that she'd be appalled at how he has been treated. I've taken an infant animal, that I know nothing about, from its habitat and maybe it's family. He is nearly ten feet long and I've kept him basically a prisoner for around two months now in my tiny basement laboratory. He hardly has any room to move at all now. I've been feeding him food that I deemed okay for him while I have no idea what his natural diet would be. I've been so selfish, thinking only about the things I could learn from him without considering his well being. I'm not going to bring Fluttershy in. I can't keep him against his will anymore. Tomorrow night I'll try to sneak him back to the Ever Free forest. Sneaking around with a ten foot long, which about six feet of which is his tail, won't be easy, but I'll do my best. Fluttershy, I'm just going to ask you some questions so we- Crying Shining Armor: Oh please, Fluttershy. Please don't cry, you're not in any trouble. I know you're in a lot of pain from your injuries and I want to get you back in your room and resting as soon as possible. But First we just need to ask you some questions so we can have a better idea of how this happened, okay? Silence Fluttershy: um..okay. I'm ready to go on. Shining Armor: How would you describe Twilight Sparkle in the weeks leading up to May 1st? Fluttershy: I didn't really see much of her, none of us really did. We all knew that she loved to keep busy studying and doing research, but this time she was much more absent. When we did see her, she didn't speak much at all about what she was doing. Shining Armor: So you had no idea what she was raising? None at all? Fluttershy: Well...sometime in mid April, the store owner that I buy my feed from said that Twilight had bought maybe a few hundred pounds of feed from him. He said he could barely keep up. I just assumed that Spike was getting bigger. I thought I could always trust that if she needed my help she wouldn't have any trouble in asking. I can't believe I was so stupid.... Shining Armor: But she did come to you, right? The night of April 30th, Twilight Sparkle came to visit you Tell me about that. Fluttershy: Well um, it was actually very early morning when she I don't even know why I was still up.... Silence Shining Armor: Fluttershy? Fluttershy: ...I'm sorry. Anyway when she showed up, I could tell she was in a rush and that something was very wrong. She said she needed me back at the Library immediately. It was obvious she needed help with something really bad so we left as soon as we could. On the way back, we barely spoke and she wouldn't tell me what it was that she needed. I trusted Twilight, she's one of my best friends...if she needs help, I'm going to give it to her no matter what. But I couldn't even imagine that she'd be hiding something like that from me. Shining Armor: Hmm... What happened when you got to her lab in the basement? Fluttershy: Crying We...we never made it to her lab. We never even made it inside!" Shining Armor: Tell me what happened, Fluttershy. Tell me what you saw." Fluttershy: We were just walking towards the door. Everything was fine. And then, all the sudden, the whole front wall seemed like it exploded! The whole side of the tree just seemed to break off and fall towards us! Twilight tried a spell to block it, but...it wasn't enough...Crying I got hit by a limb and then buried under branches. I couldn't see what happened to Twilight... Shining Armor: But did you SEE it? Fluttershy: No, I didn't see it fully... but I heard it. While I was buried under branches, I could feel something moving towards me. I knew it was big because I could feel the ground shake with every step it took. All the sudden the moonlight that was just barely shining through the leaves was covered up at once. I knew it was standing over me. Its breathing sounded heavy and rumbling, almost like hearing thunder in the distance. It stood over me for a moment before It jumped away. When I finally had a second to think is when I finally felt the pain from getting hit. And I just fainted.. Shining Armor: You didn't hear Twilight at all? No screams, no shouts, nothing? Fluttershy: I couldn't hear anything over the sound of that thing breathing. Crying Shining Armor: Its okay, we're almost done here. So am I correct in saying you missed all the events on the morning of May 1st? Fluttershy: No I did not. Please tell me... Is Twilight okay? SIlence Shining Armor: ...Okay Thank you Fluttershy. You were forced into a situation that only a solider should see and you truly went above and beyond. You truly are a hero Rainbow Dash: If my fellow ponies need me then I'm there. I just wish I could have a rematch. Shining Armor: I am so sorry about your leg. We are going to do whatever we can to make things right. If you ever need anything, we will be there for you. Rainbow Dash: I've always preferred to fly rather than walk anyway. Lets just get through this so I can get out of here. I hate hospitals... Shining Armor: Absolutely. clears throat How did you hear the news about what was happening in Ponyvllle? Rainbow Dash: Well I was asleep in Cloudsdale, but I was awoken by the sirens like everyone else. When I went outside to see what was happening, I got word something bad was happening in Ponyville, but no one knew any specifics. But I didn't need them. All I knew was that my best friends were down there so here was no decision to make. I gathered up a couple other pegasus and we went down to help. Shining Armor: What was the state of Ponyville as you approached from the air? Rainbow Dash: Well the weather teams weren't up yet, so there were some pretty low clouds over the town. By the time we got through them we were very close to the ground. There were fires, some buildings destroyed and it didn't take us very long to find what caused them. Shining Armor: So you saw the creature? Rainbow Dash: Oooh Yeah...I saw it. Shining Armor: Describe it. Rainbow Dash: Big. I mean it was really big. He was so big he was standing in the ruins of building. It was kinda like a giant cat, but way more muscular. As we flew towards it, it "looked" at us, but it didn't have a face. No eyes, It looked like it was just a big mouth. Shining Armor: Dear Celestia... Rainbow Dash: Yeah, I don't think any of us expected to see that down there. But we started fighting it anyway. I flew down and rammed it as fast as I could, but he barely budged. He just turned around and started snapping his massive jaws at me. He was so close to getting me, I could practically count the teeth in his mouth. And thats when he got hit by this purple blast of magic. I looked down and saw Twilight running in from behind him. Shining Armor: So Twilight was active in this fight? Rainbow Dash: Oh heck yeah! I've never seen her so intense. She had been fighting it completely on her own before we showed up. But it did look like she had gotten beaten up pretty bad. That thing turned towards her with its mouth all the way open. I thought he was gonna snap her up for sure, but she teleported to another roof top and hit him with another blast. The other pegasi and I kept ramming into him aiming for his legs and the top of his head. He was roaring and whipping his body al around trying to focus in on one of us. All the while, Twilight was continually hitting him with these incredible blasts of magic. I really thought we were close to taking him down. Shining Armor: What happened? Rainbow Dash: All the sudden this thing jumps in the air like 50 feet and snaps a pegasus straight out of the sky. I flew higher to scope out where I'd hit his body next. I watched another pegasus try to go for his feet, but the creature suddenly turned and he ended up flying straight into his mouth. Including myself, there were only three other pegasus in the air. I flew around behind him and went in for an attack. As I was flying towards him, I watched him turn towards Twilight. Before I could get to him he jumped at her. He crashed into the entire building and thrashed his limbs and tail around completely destroying it. I had to break off my attack because of all the debris flying everywhere. Shining Armor: Did you see her teleport? SIlence Rainbow Dash: ....I didn't. She might have, but I just didn't see it. Shining Armor: Hmm.. Rainbow Dash: Is she...is she STILL missing? Shining Armor: Silence...Tell me about how you got injured. Rainbow Dash: Sigh After it destroyed the building a cloud of dust covered the area. And like an idiot I flew into it. I was looking for Twilight, but flew straight into that things side. He turned and tried to chomp me, but I ducked and tried to move clear. I thought I had distance between me and him, but suddenly it whipped around and hit me hard with its tail. I was knocked really far away and crashed into a fruit stand in the market. Immediately I knew something was wrong. I look down and BOOM I'm minus one leg. The cut was so clean I couldn't believe that it had actually happened. I knew I needed to stop the bleeding, but it was just coming out so fast, spilling all over and I just passed out. I...I thought I was gonna die.. Shining Armor: And You don't remember anything else from that morning? Rainbow Dash: No, nothing. The next thing I knew I was waking up in the hospital. Shining Armor: Hmm. Well I think thats all we need. Again I just want to thank you personally for what you did today. The ponies of Equestria will never forget it. Rainbow Dash: Please...just find Twilight...
